I also think the song is ok, its not strong enough for a single at all, but i would listen to it on her cd, i am really wanting her to have a great cd she deserves it!

It’s just OKAY…..I don’t know if she truly fit in the “current” R&B category….she’s more Contemporary R&B.

I think her belting will have a place on her album, but there is no need to go there for every song. Sometimes, less is best. Just stay on pitch and have fun with it. We all know she can sing so no need to prove it for 10-14 tracks of an album. That was Leona’s problem. They wanted her to blow the roof off with every song thus leading to an album full of ballads and not-quite-as-slow ballads.

That said, I kind of like it. I say kind of because it is very NeYo-ish IMO and I’m kind of tired of his stamp being all over every song on the radio. She has a VERY broad audience and fanbase right now so it’ll be interesting to see how she brings all that into an album that isn’t all over the place but isn’t pigeon holed.

I like this song. Finally something that doesn’t sound like Dreamgirls… It is definitely best for her to relax her voice for most songs on her album so that she doesn’t sound like the Dreamgirls soundtrack.

Her voice is gawjuss more so when its toned down, she has a brilliant tone to her voice. I do think there is room for her in the music industry; christina aguilera has powerhouse vocals but she still sells. Singing should be about a great voice (+ personality) and thats what J-hud has.

The song is good, i think it might grow on me. But its not single potential, its more of an album filler. But at least shes finally leaked something!

She should have made a good album whilst filming Dreamgirls, that would have off-set her career.

Ok I like the softness of her voice here. MUCH better than the last song you posted on here. I dont hear Effie…I hear Jennifer Hudson, and I love it. The tenderness of her voice is very refreshing. She doesn’t sound broad way or anything. She sounds very urban and soulful but still…tender.

I like this song. It tells a story, her voice sounds lovely and floats over the melody. It reminds me of something old school, like Chaka or Patrice Rushen or Karen White.

Jennifer can’t come out and make a super pop album, she doesn’t have that kind of voice. She has a heavier old school quality to her voice. And if she came out with a pop record it wouldn’t be hot.

I really like this song. I think she did her share of belting out on this song without it being too overbearing. The beat of this song is pretty live so I think she did a good job of just riding the beat and hitting high notes where needed. I think R & B may still have a chance after all. This song is really refreshing. Kind of remind me of the type of songs that whitney houston is known for singing, which is good in my opinion. Jennifer definitely has her own sound and I think that will be her big advantage in a music industry where everyone sounds pretty much the same except a small few.

I didn’t get a chance to listen, but reading the reviews I can see that the song is very well put together and her tone is great. I think many people that find it boring are people that like more uptempo music in my opinion. I donno I’m just guessing based on the comments. Besides if she is being coached by Alicia and India Arie then she will learn how to make a song radio friendly even when people think she can’t because people said the same about those 2 ladies and they are multi platinum artists.

I’m very inquisitive as to how they will market her…..her voice is entirely to strong for hip-hop and the everyday teeny boopers, yet she is to young to be played entirely on V-103 here in Chicago, IMO! I too, believe that they have taken entirely to long to release her album, the initial producers that were picked for the album seemed as though it would have been a well put together project. She needs a STRONG first single out the gate to garner that attention that she once had….say about a year and a half ago!

Actually Jennifer has three films coming out this year. “Winged Creatures” with Forest Whitaker, “The Secret Lives of Bees” with Alicia Keys and the little girl who was also oscar nominated. As well as “The Family That Preys” by Tyler Perry. You already know about Sex and The City. She will be getting 4 really big paychecks. Not to mention the money she gets from doing shows. I think concrete loop reported how much that was before. It’s alot. Yeah and her album in September. SO, yeah, people are knocking her doors down. That’s the problem with some folks(black folks inparticular) we always have to tear down one to build another, then pull that one down when they get to hot. Beyonce and Jen are equally talented vocalist. They just have different pitches to their voice. But when I hear them. They are flawless.

I actually really really really like the song. One of the comments mentioned tenderness and that’s what you hear in this song. And she does do some belting, it’s just not overwhelming (like what you see in a lot of other singers nowadays). Her voice is beautiful, touching, refreshing and mesmerizing. And maybe it’s her acting talent that makes the sentiment in the song seem so genuine - I loved it! I’m definitely going to have to listen to this song again!

JHUD is the sh… People please understand this girl is only in her 20’s. The song relfects a pop sound that should appeal to a variety of people. Yes, it has been over a year but she has been extremely busy with more movies, traveling abroad and for Clive Davis to come up with (more material). The first set of songs produced were scraped because it did have more of an older sound. She cannot just appeal to the black audienc. T

Spotlight is a fun easy shake your head kind of song. It should sell but sometimes we’re too critical of what we think we know. We are not aware of the many opportunities she has been presented. I for one am happy she’s concentrating on her acting careet because she is truly a natural talented person. She did extremely well in Dreamgirls but taking the role in Sex in the City was a smart career move. Just watch—–she’s going to blow up in the industry.
