Check out news coverage of a huge fight that occurred at Locke High School in south Los Angeles last week. According to the LA Times, “about half of the students said the brawling was prompted by their peers — bored with school and ready to ignite.” Other students blamed racial tensions and gang problems. KILPATRICK UPDATE
On Wednesday, a 5-4 coalition of Detroit City Council members launched an impeachment-like process of Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick. According to The Detroit News, a sitting mayor for the first time in the city’s history could be called before the panel to justify why he shouldn’t lose his position.
The council also voted 5-4 to ask Gov. Jennifer Granholm to oust a popularly elected mayor and fellow Democrat, something she’s never done.
Then again, having a mayor entangled in scandal opens doors to all new territory and Kilpatrick continues to say he’s going nowhere.
Kilpatrick’s attorney and staff members claim the council lacks the authority to hold hearings to remove him: “They did not elect the mayor and they cannot remove him,” said Deputy Mayor Anthony Adams.
Consultants say the mayor has slipped from a slight majority of support to a slight minority since he was charged in March…ya think?!
SHARPTON TAX PROBLEMS
Government records indicate Al Sharpton and his business entities owe nearly $1.5 million in overdue taxes and associated penalties.
As one of the most prominent civil rights leaders in the country, Sharpton calls the investigation “retaliation”: “Whatever retaliation they do on me, we never stop,” he told The Associated Press. “I think that is why they try to intimidate us.”
An investigation has also been launched on his non-profit group, which Sharpton has brushed off as the kind of annoyance civil rights leaders come to expect from the government. Sharpton’s lawyers and the staff of the National Action Network have been negotiating with the government over the debt’s size and they dispute the government’s figure.
None of this has deterred Sharpton, who was arrested last week during a protest of the three police officers who were acquitted of killing Sean Bell.
If I was Rev. Al and i was going to stir the pot, whether the allegations are true or not, I would definately make sure my “business” is in order. He aughta know that when the gov wants you to shut up and sit down they go after tax evasion….

The race riots have been going on for years out here. I was in 6th grade in 94 and we had two huge race riots, and im not even in LA, I live in Pomona which is about 45 minutes outside the city. in Pomona, it started with the gangs not wanting to give up any turf and then it became racial. The little wanna be gangstas in schools would start stuff. It was a scary time, especially for an 11 year old. But now its getting worse, There is a neighborhood in LA where you get popped if your black (Harbor). Latino gangs are going up to young black males and shooting them in the head. My question is, why are we not treating these hate crimes as such? Also, Latinos have as much right to this piece of land as we do, so i dont co-sign with #20, Black folks were killing each other out here before Latino gangs entered the picture in large numbers. What WE need to do is stop making excuses for the parents AND the kids. As long as we have this “us” vs. “them” mentality, then there will never be peace. Damaged people need a scapegoat to take away from their own issues or insecurities, so as long as there is dysfunction in both communities, the beef will continue.
@QUEEN you forgot to add that there are hispanics that can be as dark as “black ” people. ppl like to divide so it’s easier for us to say black vs. brown when in reality, that makes NO sense at all

i disagree, the west indian parade has been going on forever and that could be farther from the truth. when west indians came to the states they were very out of place and didnt have anything to identify with, such as music, food, culture, etc. as the west indian population began to grow in nyc a parade was created to celebrate west indian culture and the parade has grown bigger over the years. the parade is not meant to brag or show out african americans because in the west indies there is a carnival every year so the carnival was brought to brooklyn as a reminder of back home.
there is also an african american parade in harlem celebrating african american culture. i do agree that there is unnecessary tension between the different minorities which is stupid because we have more in common than we think we do. however i dont think that is the intention of the different celebrations, we’re just all trying to celebrate our culture and what makes us unique, not downgrade another culture.

I find it crazy that blacks and mexicans have more problems with each other on the west coast then we have in the south. I just don’t make any sense, I think their problem is mainly influence by gangs.
The Mexicans problem in Cali is that they think they are WHITE and can get that KKK pass to kick black azz. They act like the US owes their azzes sh-t and like every other minority group they don’t mind jumpin on the Civil Rights bandwagon when it suits their f-ckin needs. The blacks in Cali are partly to blame because they have no unity, will stab each other in the back any chance they get and do all types of ish to each other. That is why I am seriously considering moving to the ATL. I am sich of the ish in Cali.
The Hispanics do get away with bloody murder here because these white folks are chickensh-t cowards out here who won’t tolerate sh-t from a black but will take all type of ish off the Hispanics and their aggressive azzed leadership. Hispanics generally love white folks, and think like them. In Mexico, the white Mexicans treat the Afrolatins and the Indian ones the same so they are overjoyed to come to the States and partake of the pecking order that was established in this country with blacks at the bottom. As for white folks giving them back “their” land what is their bish. You don’t see the white folks giving blacks back South Africa and the rest of the diamond, oil and gold mines in Africa do you. And you don’t see them letting Africans, Haitians and Jamaicans migrate here either, legal or illegal. So the Mexicans don’t have a bish.
i was seriously thinking about moving to LA and attending Grad school out there, but this type of shit scares me. I hear stories all the time about these mexicans and other hispanics just killing innocent black folks just because they are black.

You folks who suggest, “They hate black folks,” and “Where’d all the blacks go.” First of all, I am born and raised in Watts. Always had, and still do have many, many Latino friends. This hate shit is amongst a very small few, and believe me, it goes both ways. When you have a black homeless activist like Ted Hayes, joining the racist Minutemen at an anti-immigrant march, in innercity L.A., this encourages anyone who wants to hate black folks to hate us.
As far as the demographics, and “where’d all the black folks go?” We’ve always been a small segment of the population in L.A. anyway. Let me touch on history: California, Los Angeles, Santa Monica, San Diego, Figueroa, Sepulveda, on and on. Anything similar to you about those names of the state, cities and streets? There are all spanish; the shit belongs to them. and they are taking it back.
The western region of this country was stolen from them in a bullshit war by American imperialist (Iraq ring a bell), and they are just getting their shit back. This crap started in the penitentiary, with the black and latino gangs starting to fight over the crack market. They used to have different interest, but there is just too much money in crack.
Smart black leaders in L.A. know that we should and need to get along. We are only 7% of of the U.S. population. We can’t accomplish shit without the assistance of other groups. I’ve had latin friends since elementary schoool and I am 54 years old. We need to correct this bullshit.

#69…don’t be afraid to come out here, the gangs are the fuel to the fire in these racially motivated shootings and fights, and contrary to popular belief, gangs are not EVERYWHERE out here. Just be sure to befriend a so-cal native (preferably one who knows what the hell is going on in the streets and not some oblivious white person) to tell you which locations should be avoided
