NEWS ROUNDUP: SEAN BELL UPDATE / JANE BOLIN HONORED / NEW SEIU PRES.

Tuesday, May 27, 2008

Detectives Marc Cooper, left, Gescard Isnora, center, and Michael Oliver

The three cops acquitted of killing Sean Bell were hit with disciplinary charges last week. Detectives Marc Cooper, Gescard Isnora and Michael Oliver were accused of firing their weapons outside of NYPD departmental guidelines - charges that could result in their termination from the force. Isnora was also charged with violating NYPD vice protocols by taking action as an undercover.

Al Sharpton, who is demanding that the Justice Department try the three cops for violating Bell’s civil rights, called the internal charges “a step in the right direction.”

“That’s good news,” Sean Bell’s father, William, added. “On a gloomy day like today, I need some good news.”

The three officers remain on modified duty, stripped of their guns and badges.

JANE BOLIN HONORED

Jane Bolin, the first black woman to serve as a judge in the United States, was recently honored with a portrait to be hung in the Dutchess County (NY) Family Court.

Judge Peter Forman wanted to keep Bolin’s legacy alive so he formed a committee to raise money to commission the portrait. He added, “We have enough funds to produce prints, which we are going to get into all of the schools here in Dutchess County as a way of educating the young people about her as a role model.”

For more info on Judge Bolin, be sure to read her recent Black History Spotlight.

FIRST SEIU BLACK FEMALE PRESIDENT

Service Employees International Union (SEIU) Local 1000, the largest state employee union in California, recently elected Yvonne Walker as its president, the first black woman to hold the position.

Walker, a legal secretary at the Department of Justice, previously served as the 94,000-member union’s vice president for bargaining for three years.

She remarked, “We’ll continue to focus our energies to pass a responsible state budget, negotiate a new contract for our members, and build a union that wins for our members. This is an opportunity to bring everyone together…This was a tough and spirited election, but we all share the same goals.”

Elected with 44 percent of the vote, Walker will assume office on July 1.

I don’t like to say this. But they look like your typical Dickhead cops. It never fails when you put a black cop with a white cop, the black one always feels he/she needs to make a point when dealing with Black Americans. Even when they know they are abusing their power. Which goes to show men can’t direct their own steps! Too much power for an imperfect human being to have. That’s the problem. I mean really just look at the pic. Apparently getting a non-guilty verdict wasn’t enough for them. They still feel they can do what they want even if it goes agianst their probation. This is how you can tell they don’t have any remorse. Throw these bums in jail, under if needed, with the general population. Then you see who will have that smug attitude.

On a day when I do not feel like being at work these posts make me remember why I do what I do and how I have to continue to strive to be the best I can be each day. Thanks Concrete!

Sean Bell– may his family find justice…

On the Sean Bell case, it is a step in the right direction, but nothing close to the punishment that they really deserve. And it would really be hard to put them back on the streets - but if they get “terminated” with benefits, then there still is no punishment at all.

They should just do something else. Why would you still want to be a cop knowing that you killed an unarmed man.. Now, they basically working as secreteries for the P.D. because they dont have they guns nor their badges. A badge is something of honor. Which at this time NYPD don’t feel like they should have the honor of having a badge. They should be terminated w/o benefits for the actions they took. Did the Bell family file a lawsuit?

Jane Bolin is a very honorable woman so it’s nice to see that some recognize her. Congratulations to the first female black SEIU president that is truly an accomplishment. I hope she has a great team following her in this journey. As for the “punishment” of some of those involved in the massacre of Sean Bell this so-called punishment is a slap on the wrist. You can’t bring a life back from the grave so there is nothing that would ever equal in justice for Sean Bell. We as African-Americans must realize that rallying after something happens is not enough we need to all stand-up and show the establishment that we will not tolerate the injustices against our people.

@16

All cops have the same mentality once they join the police force regardless of ethnicity. The black and hispanic “police officers” are oftentimes more gung ho than their white counterparts in their efforts to show master that their allegiance is to their badge, not their race. I have never seen a caucasian man get fired at 50 times for any reason, and certainly not by a black or hispanic officer. In this case the caucasian cop, Oliver, emptied two clips in an obvious attempt to kill everyone in the vehicle. Get your facts straight before you jump up to defend master.

It’s disturbing to know that it’s being acknowledged by the agency that the officers indeed broke some Police Department policies in their actions that night however the judge ruled that they did not break any laws! It just doesn’t make any sense. How would they feel if a similar situation occurred with one of their sons??

Since you have all the facts, you should’ve been in the court room. give them the benefit of the doubt. i’m not down playing what happened. its very unfortunate for this man to loose his life. it makes me sad but don’t pass judgment on things that’s not factual. that’s all i’m saying. and as far as getting my facts straight, there were people that commented on previous post screaming racism…blah blah blah. so that was what i made my comment on…. keep it moving.

@23

If you cannot tell what I’m talking about, you should re-read what you originally said in comment 15. I didn’t have to be in the courtroom to get basic facts about the case. The only thing that I had to do was read, which is something that you obviously didn’t do or can’t do. I should give who the benefit of the doubt about what? You mean to tell me that they can fire 50 shots at an unarmed man, falsely allege that he had a weapon, and I should give them the benefit of the doubt. I give Marc Cooper the benefit of the doubt but that devil, Oliver, has never shown any contrition for his actions and has a history of racial incidents in his dossier. All three of them lied about having their badges exposed as per the head lieutenant and assisting officers that arrived on the scene in the aftermath of the shooting. You have the nerve to tell me to give them the “benefit of the doubt” but you, like most people, speak from a platform of ignorance and idiocy.

@28

What did I say that was conspiratorial in nature? Oliver didn’t fire 31 shots at an unarmed man? The real conspiracy is the massive level of stupidity of simple-minded black people like yourself. The Lord is about to deal with black people though. He’s going to wake our people up in a big way and the majority of black people will die in the process. Katrina was just the beginning. Clowns like yourself still refuse to acknowledge the obvious.

@JUDAH I wasn’t referring to this comment, I was referring to all the other ridiculous,hateful, racist comments you made before. By the way how are you a racist but claim to know God? God accept all races. I guess I’m ignorant because I don’t agree with you. You need to get off your high horse because just as dumb as the rest of us porch monkeys as you like to say. It’s funny how you talk about how you know what the scriptures say, yet your comments always go against them. God had nothing to do with Hurricane Katrina, but then again you’re to far set in your ways to figure that out. SMH. . When his day do come, hopefully you will be in his good graces by then because by the way you are talking now, I don’t see that happening. But hey, time will tell how will be saved or destroyed now want it? Anyways I’m not going to go back and forth with you. Like the other person said, keep it moving.

@Krystal

Keep what moving? You addressed me. It amazes me how on all these Sean Bell posts, there’s always someone like yourself that uses these posts as platforms to harass or attack me with your simplicity. It shows alot about how simple a negro like yourself is. It’s not “name-calling”, it’s just fact. If I’ve made so many hateful comments, why would you wait until a post about a man getting shot at 50 times comes up to “put me in my place”, which is obviously your intent. I’m tired of black people always trying to tell me what God is about, what the scriptures are about, or what God wants for all races when they obviously have never read the Bible, much less understand it. What is your opinion on the topic at hand? Are you smart enough to have one? There are many scriptures that detail that the Most High kills (Deut 32:39, I Sam 2:6, etc.) and that he creates the storms (Job 37:10-13, Pas 83:13-15, Isa 28:2, 29:6). The Lord did create Katrina, he did create the various earthquakes and natural disasters that have occurred and are to come, and if you don’t like it or understand it, go drink some hot chocolate and tuck yourself in. The Lord is not Santa Claus, so whatever god you worship, it’s not the God of the bible. Don’t address me unless you have something intelligent to say.

No one deserves to die. It’s not anyone else’s call to determine who lives or dies.

But at the same time, it’s a case of your word against theirs. No one really knows for sure what exactly transpired as the defense kept poking holes in each of the prosecutions witnesses. If your story isn’t consistent, you lose credibility.

And credibility is key, especially when you go into a trial with negatives on your credibility and character.

Seedy strip club known for illegal drug activity.
Witnesses overhearing Bell say he was “going to get a gun”.
The fact that all 3 guys had arrest records.

All these things are taken into consideration by a jury no matter if they are white or black.

The officers involved may have not followed the proper protocol and it’s unfortunate a life was lost. But at the same time people easily villainize a police force that they are so quick to call when they need help. It’s also easy to lump all officers with the disgusting Rodney King or Abner Louima cops. Put yourself in an officer’s shoes. Working ridiculous shifts for lower wages than your peers across the country. Policing a mostly ungrateful community of people who are intent of repeating the cycle of stereotypes set forth by their parents over and over and over again.

I don’t think the urban community fairly looks at any situation involving the police. Instead of protesting, Sharpton needs to refocus his energy on empowering the community in a positive way.

JUDAH: I normally don’t respond to insanely ignorant comments, but congratulations I’m going to make an exception just for you. Follow my logic, as I organize your comments to prove that like those officers, you are also a black racist or, more appropriately, a self-loathing black person who has internalized racist ideas.

1. Your insistence on using the phrase a “simple a negro like yourself ” to insult a poster is unnecessary. In the following sentence, you recognize that it will be construed as “name-calling”, but you try to discount it as fact. Some white people generalize that all blacks are stupid or let’s use your word simple. But that’s ok, that’s fact too so its cool. You are crazy!
2. Your inability to make statements that are rational: “black people ALWAYS trying to tell me what God is about…”; “ALL cops have the same mentality”. What’s wrong with you that you can’t see that all Blacks and all cops are individuals not clones.
3. Your inability to come up with anything more original than re-stating how dumb you think blacks are by referring to the “massive level of stupidity of simple-minded black people.”
4. The subtle hint of satisfaction or rather explicit happiness that you would derive from God punishing the earth. Umm, paranoia or sociopathic? … you choose. You seem indifferent to and, or rather, excited about the prospect that when this occurs the “majority of black people will die in the process”. That’s disgusting and wreaks of genocide. No group deserves that.

I’m not sure if you realize how disturbing your tone is but you probably should seek some professional help. Self-hatred is not a good look and its dangerous for your own health to have such negative sentiments towards the racial group in which you have membership. Just a thought.

The sh*it IS RACIST because Sean Bell was black and his murders, regardless of THEIR race, get a pat on the back. It IS racist because the murders aren’t getting what they deserve just off the strength that the victim was black. If you can’t see the blatant racism, you need some damn glasses.

@50

You know what I’m sayin, lmao? These people kill me. It goes to show you how perverse the minds of our people are. Most of these people ain’t even black. They come onto these sites in disguise to chime in and confuse black people. Whether they’re the same person or different people, it is inconsequential to me because they share the same half a brain anyway. People think that because more people agree with them that they must be correct, lol. None of them can refute ONE THING I’ve said or am going to say. What’s funny is that they go hard and don’t say sh*t. That’s what has me crackin’ up the most. I’m not even reading their bullsh*t intensely enough to analyze the writing style so I’ll take your word for it. It’s just a series of morons that are unhappy that there are still black men with backbones that won’t lick the boots of caucasians.

@51

First off, who are you? You have me cracking up because you’re coming at me with a thesis as if I’m on trial, lmao. Are you that silly hispanic girl that tries to act like she likes black people? Let me preface by saying to you that to analyze me you must first understand the spirit of the Lord; which you don’t, and secondly you must be on my level intellectually, which you certainly are not. I’m not boasting, it’s just fact. When I say “spirit of the Lord”, I’m just referring to a respect and knowledge of the scriptures and how they apply to this life and society.

1) The reason why I say that you must first understand the spirit of the Lord is because if you did, you wouldn’t have made such an ass of yourself in trying to analyze me. When I use the term “simple”, it’s to denote the naivete of a person that either refuses to recognize the obvious or does not have the mental aptitude to do so. If a black man gets shot at 50 times, the perpetrators are exonerated, and the only thing that another black person can conjure up in their mind is how much they want to argue with me as opposed to assessing the issue at hand, that negro is simple. To me, calling a creature like that “simple” is nice as opposed to what they should be called and what should be done to them. The scriptures inform me that our people have become simple in this land due to their ignorance of their own history (Jer 4:22, Hos 4:6). You yourself have nothing to say about Sean Bell because you don’t care. What you do care about is attempting to stomp the fire of any black person (specifically black male) that is not subservient.

2) I speak about black people because they are my people and I love them. I don’t have to qualify my statements or the reasoning behind them to a buffoon (more name-calling from me) such as yourself because your perspective is not akin to mine and we are unequally yoked. When one reads the scriptures, the Lord deals with our people as a nation, not individuals (Ezek 21:3). He punished us as a race and he will redeem us as a race, even though many of our people will be lost in the process. It’s obvious that personalities and talents vary from person to person but it is undeniable that there are ties that bind people within a race. Nor do I have to take a census of police officers one by one to deduce which ones are ni**er friendly. I don’t subscribe to the tricknology of “equality”. There are no two things that are equal to each other in the universe. People with power will exercise that power, devoid of discretion, if given the chance especially when imbued with the spiritual hatred that the other races have for black people (Ecc 4:1, Ezek 35:5).

3) Lol, are you aware that your first three attempts at a point are all the same point? Are you intelligent enough to glean that? I will never not call an adult that is proud in their stupidity and simplicity anything other than what they are. A person is not simple because they disagree with me. They’re simple because they’re simple. The only thing that I can do is look around my community and deduce the obvious. I feel sorry for the black and hispanic children that are being raised by these idiotic adults that can’t teach them anything but to “love everybody”, and then these same adults stand back in amazement and fear when their sons and daughters become gang members and whores and start to terrorize their own communities (Prov 30:11-13, Isa 3:12). Is that what I should do to show “love” for my people? Should I act like everything is alright and march with a placard with Al Sharpton to appease an ass like yourself? No, that’s not the caliber of person I am.

4) Once again, we’re back to square one with the fact that you don’t understand the spirit of the Lord. Any person that understands the scriptures and loves Christ is waiting for his Second Coming. When that happens, this present world will be destroyed (II Pet 3:10-13). Simple as that. I’m not vain or presumptuous enough to think that my opinion trumps the Lord’s Word. It’s a matter of beliefs and you don’t have to believe what I believe but we both know that you cannot substantiate your beliefs. You’re right, I’m waiting for Christ and his angels to come back and destroy this place and the people that are his enemies (Rev 14:14-20, Rev 19:10-21). I think that any and all God-fearing people can see that the writing is on the wall. America’s economy is falling and everywhere one looks, there are increasing natural disasters (Matt 24:6,7). The mores of America have deteriorated drastically to the point where evil is applauded and righteousness is despised (Isa 5:20,21).

I don’t know if you realize how disturbing your idiocy is. You’re not even intelligent enough to deduce hatred, much less self-hatred. I always find it interesting that when black males stand up strongly for their own, they’re “paranoid” or “self-hateful” but when we’re gang members, drug-dealers, or thugs, no one recommends psychiatric help. I wonder why that is, lol. I think it’s dangerous and fool-hardy for you to continue to chime in on issues that you’re not intelligent or qualified to address much less engage in debate with people who’s level you cannot attain to.

@54

Are you a caucasian sir? If so, there is no peace between me and you. The whole Judah/Judas thing is so tired and pathetic, lmao. The name “Judah” means “God’s Praise” (Gen 29:35). “Judas” is just the greek rendering of the name “Judah” in the Hebrew “Yehudah” or in the ancient Hebrew “Yahawadah” (Matt 1:2,3, Matt 13:55, Luke 6:16). The point of the Judas Iscariot element of the gospels was that 1)We must wait on vengeance from the Lord 2) he was the vessel that was used to fulfill the Old Testament prophecy that a man would sell out Christ (Zech 11:12,13, Matt 27:3). Judas Iscariot was a Zealot and he wanted to force Christ to start a race war between the Israelites and the Roman usurpers but it wasn’t time for that yet (Matt 26:52, John 18:36). The point of the story is not that everyone named Judas is a betrayer, lol. Sometimes I wonder if people really realize how silly the things that they think are elucidating really are.

In regard to your main point, I have no idea what the hell you’re referring to, it can’t possibly be applicable to me because I’ve never said that the Sean Bell verdict wasn’t predicated on race. It seems like you just chimed in when you saw some of these other people trying to address me and ended up making an ass of yourself.

Yeah because of your crazy,delusional, 14 pages of conspiracies that you try to use the bible for back up but only make yourself sound even more delusional because obviously don’t know how to comprehend LMAO. The more self-righteous you act the dumber you sound. Like I said before you’re a little touched. It’s funny you choose the name Judah seeing that they betrayed God numerous of times right to the point where they lost his favor very interesting.

I just went over the judah thing already and you’re still stupid enough to run with that, lol? Do you know that the black Americans of the captivity are the descendants of the tribe of Judah? Do you know any history pertaining to our people at all? Are you even a black person? Do you have any take on the Sean Bell murder? Are you one of the same idiots that harassed me yesterday masquerading as someone else? How do you think I should comprehend the Bible? Give me some scriptures and the breakdowns so I can go apply it and become a better follower of the Most High since you have the insight. I bet that you won’t. I bet you won’t even try because you know you’ll get cut. You’ll run away and come back under another simple name and spout more simplicity, lol.

How did Judah lose God’s favor when the new covenant is with Israel and Judah and the Lord said that he would never reak that covenant (Jer 31:31-35, Heb 8:6-13)? Are you calling the Most High a liar? Christ was of the tribe of Judah (Hebrews 7:14). Is Christ not in the Most High’s good favor?

When I first started coming on CL and reading Judahs comments I thought you were just one crazy mofo with a bible lol!

But I’ve been reading a lot of your comments and a lot of things he has said in past posts have really opened my eyes. Although some of the comments he has made in the past I find a bit extreme, I agree with many of his views. I think some of us really cannot comprehend the world we live in because of the way society has been constructed - based on the most dominant races view we are effectively brainwashed…

What happened to “Come On People”? This is what makes me crack up. You have a post about a brother that got murdered and none of these people that use so much energy to refute me have anything to say about it, because they don’t care. This is what makes them clowns, buffoons, fools, idiots, and everything else one can think of. A bunch of mental midgets that need to be put out of their misery or at least have their wombs removed so that they won’t bring any children into this world and pass their stupidity onto the next generation.

JUDAH: I was debating on whether or not to respond to your previous comments and I decided that I will. But, instead of submitting a mean-spirited and/or defensive post, I’d like to hear your solutions to our community’s problems. Judah, you’ve emphasized several times that your intelligence is essentially unmatched by others. I don’t know you, so I can’t speak to that. But, given that you believe that I am not “qualified to address much less engage in” these debates, I welcome the opportunity for you to briefly tell us your ideas about what needs to be done. Specifically, I’m really interested in what *you are doing* to address these problems. It seems like you are suggesting that we move this discussion to the next level, away from the “simplicity.” Ok, well let’s do just that and maybe something positive can emerge from this string. Perhaps you’ve started an organization. Maybe you are writing books/articles, organizing workshops, or managing a socially conscious web page that could serve as a model for others. These are all the types of things that I’ve done and continue to do as part of my contribution to this effort.

You are obviously passionate about your beliefs and I’m interested in hearing about how you’ve directed that passion and concern for black people.
