NEWS: Teen in skimpy dress banned prom & handcuffed

promdress.jpg

Teenager Marche Taylor was banned from her high school prom and led away in handcuffs after turning up in a skimpy dress over the weekend. She’d dared to bare her legs, shoulders and midriff in the risqué yellow outfit at the last sioree of Madison High School’s year in Houston, Texas. When the 17-year-old tried to get past door staff at the Sugar Land Marriott hotel’s ballroom, she was told she’d violated her school’s dress code. A confrontation turned nasty and police were called, escorting Taylor away in handcuffs.

@ TABBY this does not have to do with the generation. People have been saying that about each and every generation, so please that ain’t the problem. It involves many things. 1) Parents 2) Entertainment 3)Morals 4) Self-Esteem. There other things to, but it’s not like what these kids are doing now is something new. Kids have been acting like this for years, they are just getting worse.

  2. @ The Princess CC:

Most of your comments made since until the almost 18 clause. Almost 18 is not good enough . .if she tries to get an alcoholic drink and the bartender ask for ID, you think he is going to say . .Oh you are almost 18 so I am going to serve you this drink anyway . .NOPE, he’ll get shut down with the quickness. THEREFORE, until then she is still considered a minor and should “NOT” be allowed to wear what she wants and the event was a “high” school prom if she’s feeling that grown up being that she is almost 18, she should have opted for a night club as opposed to a “high school” prom where there are guidelines.

In a nutshell, the attire was not appropriate for a high school event.

  3. KSH

Her momma needs a beat down. What in the world is going on?

  4. AND if she designed the dress herself . . .Kudos to her, she should consider developing her craft and not display them if they are considered “risky” at the high school proms or better yet, design high school appropriate prom dresses which will allow her to become a role model for the next generations following her.

  5. Dame

    she looks so cooked.

i woulda just kicked her out for lookin hit.

    its PROM
not the afterparty at the STRIP CLUB

  6. Lady Architect

I wish people would stop saying she got arrested for the dress. She got arrested because they asked her to leave the premises and she was making a fuss about. They said you can leave and go home or go to jail. Since she wasn’t allowed in she was considered trespassing and disorderly conduct. She got what she deserved basically. On top of that tasteless dress she also wasn’t wearing any underwear.

  7. mavis

We shouldn’t blame this 16 year old girl for her choice of dress. It should be expected with the majority of black women being seen on tv are video vixens or overtly sexualized actresses and singers. White women are shown as attractive women in every aspect of life. They are ones you see jogging down the way, or heading somewhere important in business attire, or they have the luxury of being picked up for dates in every day life. The women who look like her in mass media are dancing and girating in outfits just like that. So maybe she believes she is dressing the way black men would like her to because this is what is put in most videos wether they be rap, hip-hop, or r&b.

  8. TylerNol

    @175

You betta tell it! But I still think that most media is being broadcast from The Death Star!

    @ Tabby

Good points, but generation wise, I don’t recall it being this bad in the “innocent” Whitney Houston days of the 80′s: Girls were still wearing the baggy jeans with the holes and the closest thing to being risky was spandex, but it was rocked with a oversized sweater. Now the mid-to-late 90′s might be a good jumping off point if you want to mark the beginning of the end. For me it was the first Hype Williams videos where I first saw images of women dancing like strippers. From there shit just got crazy in videos.

One thing is for sure – things have gotten worse and we need to get a handle on it.

  9. Uuum...

@ 91….no you didnt have the nerve to say “it must be a down south thing”….Sorry to disappoint you, but my friends and I didnt look nearly as tasteless as she did. That was an ignorant comment because in case you havent noticed, the world isnt just made up of “NYC”…please

  10. THE PRINCESS CC

    @ estyle4039

To compare buying alochol underaged and wearing what’s considered an inappropriate outfit, is not a logical comparsion.

But to your comment, I feel that her outfit was TACKY in that isn’t not something one should would wear because it looks HOMEMADE & let’s leave the sunglasses but with the actual design of the dress and with HER SIZE I think that should have exercised better judgment, it pushes high school boundaries but too much for a prom, no, i think they should have let her wear it for the event and they could have giving her some form of punishment ie detention, saturday school but to not let her stay, i think was extreme.

  11. Lady Architect

    THE PRINCESS CC,
She signed a contract for prom as every student there saying she would obide by the rules. She didn’t follow them and on the little sheet it says you would not be allowed in if you don’t follow the dress code. Plus again I must say she had on the tiny skirt portion with no underwear. That is the extreme part right there.

  12. Mocha C

    LMAO @ 13, I completely agree.

  13. Princess CC:

The comparison was towards the almost 18 factor and the logic of it all is that the chile is a minor!!! and for her age (being under 18) and the event, the dress is/was inappropriate. The chile didn’t have on no “drawers”! No stockings. No thong! NO UNDER GARMENTS! I am not understanding why you’d say let her wear it and then punish her later? This child was aware of the rules and she chose to break them and then acted a “fool” when she wasn’t allowed admission. Therefore, the punishment fit the behavior and the attire. There is no reason why minorS should be walking the streets, not alone attending proms, half naked. Apparently when she realized the staff was serious about the attire she and the girlfriends tried to “pin” the tail of the dress up and around her for coverage . . .had she just followed the rules we all wouldn’t be having this discussion.

  14. woops . . ..typo . . .that’s let alone attending proms .

  15. Applebottom

Ok now pullin the race card on this one is a lil far fetched…
I’m sorry but that dress is not at all appropriate for a 17 prom goer. I’m a 26 year old
black mother and could STILL rock a dress like that and have heards turning, so I’m not hating but If she was out of school and going to the club- OK- You’re grown. But you have to set a standard during school functions. As far as them handcuffing her, her lil’ behind was probably getting ignant with the school officials so handcuffin her lil ass was probably justified. I wasn’t there- But I do know her momma shouldn’t have let that baby walk out the door like that.. Race has nothing to do with it. There’s a time and place for everything and that just wasn’t the time to be wearin no skanky ass dress! Damn!!!

  16. FallBackHaters

Dang. She got no business wearing that dress, but they didn’t need to call the cops. They should have just asked her to go home and change or put on a cardigan

  17. JADA

ok even though her dress is that exposing its up to her what the hell she wants to wear to prom they had no right to do that. Look how much people wear dresses like that now a days thats just plain evil and stupid to do that to the girl……thats what i think…..

  18. Focused1

“For those of you saying “black people need to do better” I’m disappointed because you’re basically validating the fact that this girl represents ALL of us. We are all individuals, so don’t you dare tell ME I need to do better when my decisions have nothing to do with her.”
    -Liz

Thank you #155! Preach child. This was one of the best quotes of this entire discussion. I am so sick of people using that stupid phrase. Anytime a black person in the public eye does something offensive somehow it reflects “all of us”. Oh please. Nothing that young lady did or any other black person who does something foolish represents who I am as a black person. The only similarity I share with them is our race and that is it. Nothing more!

Now back to the subject at hand. The dress was definitely inappropriate, and since there is proof of a dress code for the prom, which was shown in the video (it was a neon green flyer) then this girl has no room to get irate because she already knew the rules from the jump. So since she already knew the deal, the school was absolutely right to deny her access to the prom and not refund her money. She wasn’t thinking when she asked for her money back, because the school most likely already used the money on food, decorations, the DJ, etc. She just needs to count this a dumb decision she made which could have been easily avoided if she had followed the rules. Wearing a dress that was legal with the school dress code for 1 night wouldn’t have killed her. There are plenty of gorgeous dresses she could have worn. She has nobody to blame but herself for this.

  19. SEXY BLACK

THIS STATEMENT IS FOR “CHOCOLATEBEE” AND ANY ONE ELSE THAT HAS MADE NEGATIVE COMMENTS DIRECTED TOWARDS THE JAMES MADISON SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT BODY AS A WHOLE:

Yes Madison is a prodomiently black school but it has serviced NFL players, Doctors, Lawyers, NBA players, City Councilmembers, Olympic medalists, entrepreneurs and so on. Please do not ignorantly judge the actions of one student against all that Madison alumni (such as myself) have accomplished by labeling us as ghetto.

Thank you on behave of the class of 2000!!!

  20. JADA

i just watched the video on CNN and she did try to cover up her body but they still said no thats just extra……..i would have thrown a fit its the girls prom and they didn’t even give her an option thats just mean they could at least told her and go home change and come back or sumthin i would have striaght cussed them out and ask for my money bac 2 shoot

  21. Emma V's Great-Grandaughter

She had no business to be dressing like that in the first place and where were her parents? If she was a white girl, she would of got away with it. You can’t go to the prom or formal dance looking like trash you are suppose to look like a princess. All of us need to wake up for once and see what is going on in the AA community.

  22. Shayna

    @ # 200

Yes, she tried to cover up, but they didn’t let her in because she wasn’t wearing any underwear under her 2 inch dress…..

  23. Mrs. PT

I dunno… i wore a dress that showed some skin (not as much) back when i was in high school. But rules are rules.

  24. a.k.a. new yorker

@ebocka no pt. in making it a race issue. not too long ago, two white women were kicked off a place for wearing miniskirts that weren’t even that short. the thing is if you act belligerent, they’ll do something. there was another case of two white girl getting kicked off a plane. they said they weren’t drunk like the crew said they were and they said they didn’t act belligerent. they probably did so they got dealt with. same with this girl. she probably wouldn’t have been handcuffed if she had just went home and changed

  25. AM

Ok so to all of these people saying that they have seen worse…what the hell? What “worse” have you seen? Somebody in a Brazilian bikini and some stilettos? I mean really, all she had to do was cut that “tail” off of the back and she could have easily transitioned from evening wear to beach wear!

This isn’t news because she was banned it was news because she cut the monkey so bad that she got the police called on her and her ass arrested! On prom night you still have to adhere to the dress code of the school because why? IT’S A SCHOOL FUNCTION, DUH!!

I have never understood why people dress like this and think that they look good. I don’t care if that girl was 29, she still looks a hot ass mess.

  26. AM

And for all the people comparing this child’s dress to the Versace dress that JLo wore, there is a difference. JLo’s dress was more conservative and covered more of her body and most important…she was a grown ass woman and she wasn’t at no damn HIGH SCHOOL prom!

  27. Lady Architect

    JADA,
Yes if you watch the video you see that they tried to pin the dress around her mid-secton, but the only thing that did was expose even more that she had on a crazy short skirt with no underwears on. Don’t Victoria secrets make special underwear to avoid the lining in the dress? Also since you watched the video I hope you saw the dress code rules on the neon green sheet. Lastly had they let that girl in and she was bending over in front of some boy and he stick his hand up under her dress, she would’ve been crying rape and trying to sue the school saying they didn’t provide enough security. Schools provide these rules to protect themselves, as well contain respect and protect the children. Because it was a school chaperoned event they had every right to tell that girl to leave since she disobeyed their rules. It is a lesson learned.

  28. Key

As a twenty one year old black female, I am very much embarrassed. Even if this young lady was white I would still be embarrassed because as a female I am so sick and tired of women dressing like this. Whether we as women are attendind our prom to just simply going to the mall SKIMPY dressing is not the answer. Why do some women dress this way? Is it because you want the attention of a man or men? Over 90 percent of Amercan’s women dress skimpy because they want attention from men. Wake up ladies, skimpy dressing will only get you that disrespectful attention that will in the long run ruin your reputation and/or will decrease you virtous value as a woman. If you have to get the attention of a man with your body then he isn’t meant for you in the first place plus he isn’t going to be attracted to you for the right reasons. A REAL man doesn’t desire a woman who dresses in such a manner however a boy will find it to be very pleasing for a short period of time. What seperates a man from a boy is his mental state of mind not necessarily his age. Always keep that in mind. What good are you if the only thing you have to offer to a man is your body? I don’t see rich men with integrity with women dressing like this. Doctors, lawyers, CEOs men with money and brains men who have the potential to take of you the way a woman should be taken care of wouldn’t give you a chance. Drug dealers are boys so they wouldn’t be included in the above list. Yeah many rappers rap about how their woman has to have a huge booty and big breast and she has to dress skimpy but that’s not who they choose to settle down with. They settle down with women who look the total opposite of the women they describe in their lyrics. Have some of you Skimpy dressers actually taken the time realize that the right man for you will love you for your personality and all of the other unique qualities you may have without you having to dress revealing. This music you guys listen to is only for entertainment it not for you to use as a reality guideline while living in the world. Many times the word skimpy is often substitued for the words sexy, classy, etc. This girl’s dress is not sexy or classy it’s nasty. A person can be sexy and/or classy without dressing skimpy. For example, I can be fully clothed with a pair of jeans and a sleeveless t-shirt but because I may have my hair hanging down in my face like a supermodel men may tell me that I’m sexy. Being sexy and classy is also determined by how you carry yourself. Do you respect yourself as a human, are you disrespecting yourself all the time, so forth and so on. Ladies we are living in a world that is often referred to as a MAN’s World. You have to know the rules and regulations of the Man’s World in order to stay on top. Skimpy dressers never stay on top. Think about it…why aren’t men showing just as much skin as women? I would love to see that LOL. Why are women viewed more as objects like a nice car than as humans? It’s okay to show some skin but show it in moderation, for example if your going to wear bottoms that expose a lot of your legs wear a shirt that covers most of you upper torso and vis versa. Everyone who reads this isn’t going to agree but for those who disagree it will only be a matter of time before you’ll see and understand exactly what I’ve typed about. For more information or advice or insight to the truth just post a comment with my name it with your question or concern and I’ll try to get back to it asap. One Love John 3:16

#19, this is national news cause it’s another pot shot at us (african americans) again, looking totally dumb and clueless. This girl really thinks that she was in the right. But I am glad that neither one of her parents had the gall to show their faces on TV. I can’t believe that this girl think that she has a leg to stand on in this case. I hope that they don’t give her back her money either. Maybe this will teach her a lady is suppose to dress, cause clearly her parents haven’t. I wonder want her date thought about this outfit. It’s sad. She’s graduating and still don’t have a clue.

  30. Miss T

What I would like to know is..who made this dress? Apparently, they ran out of material for the rest of the dress!

  31. black ppl r ignant

ummm this had nothing to do with being black or white she was just being a dumb heifer…

  32. that girl

    She looks a HOT MESS!!!

  33. Tlo404

There was a dress code and she did not conform to it. I do think she should have been given a refund. The dress was inappropriate period! I can’t believe her parents would pay for a dress like that for a child. If she wants to wear what she wants throw her own party. The rules are the rules. Black or White.

  34. saraissara

i love 27 for watch they said i completely agree.

  35. Tammy Vines

This is so unbiblical. What is happening in this world today. A comment was made that if this was a white girl it would be ok. That’s totally not true. This is so unexceptable. Parents step up and parent your kids. Teach them to respect themselves and others. Pray with them. My daughter 17yr old daughter has more respect for herself than to put something like this on her body.

  36. ShaneU

That’s what that hood rat gets. I’m so sick of these bitches showing up at proms looking like $2 hookers. Prom has been turned into an event to see who’s dress is the most revealing without showing the nipple or labia. My prom was very classy and I went to a school no different then the school she possibly goes to but people respected their bodies in a way that they didn’t dress so raveling and that was no more then 3 years ago.

I know her cheep ass did not tie a $1 walgreens rose to her arm! And is that a stop watch around her friends neck??!!??!!

This bitch needs a serious ass whooping and shame on her momma for letting her walk out the house looking like that. I would have put my foot so far up her ass she’d be chewing it for breakfast.

honestly i think she was very dumb, wait no those are not the right words, she was very wrong to wear that…Why? well lets see…white or black, it dosnt really matter even mexican, everybody know the school dress code, i know i hated it and if i could wear skimpy ass close like she did, i probably would have as well. but people know that their not suppose to wear clothes in that nature, no matter what race it is. HELLO THIS IS TEXAS!?!?! their butt-holes over here! and another thing… her acting out on the issue is so rediculious, she should have known, and had a back up….its just common sense people….

  39. hotfor herpromdress

I want to bang the hell out of her in that prom dress. Just seeing her in that gave me a giant hard-on. Where the heck were these girls when I went to school?

  40. Juli V!

I think she was well within her rights to ask for her money back. If she wasnt allowed to attend, she should get back her money. About the dress, at my high school, we’re no longer allowed to wear dresses that are that “revealing” but I think they’re just fine. Times are changing and its less common to find a dress that’s “conservative.” No matter what you’re wearing, someone is going to have a comment!

  41. Nicole

STFU ! Its not you all prom . Iis HER’S . Get over it ! And you not saying she can graduate… WTF ? really They Shoulda Bought her a dress, since they are so concerned . !
