POLITICAL ROUNDUP: WRIGHT THING TO DO / RUNNING ON FUMES / TROOP WITHDRAWAL
Tuesday, May 6, 2008
Spike Lee wants Jeremiah Wright to do the right thing: shut up. In an interview with Guardian, Lee said:
“Jeremiah Wright needs to be quiet. If he loves Obama he needs to shut up right now. It makes me question his motives for talking. I’m starting to wonder whether somebody has been contributing to the building funds of his church. Seriously. The more he opens his mouth, the more damage he does.”
Following Wright’s comments last week, many have speculated that he may be attempting to sabotage Obama’s campaign. Lee added, “It looks like he’s being paid to keep talking.”
Lee also explained why he’s supporting Obama: “He’s a unifier. He’s the one who can get us out of the situation we’re in today, because this country is going to hell in a handcart. The way the U.S. is viewed around the world is at its lowest point ever, but Obama will change everything.”
RUNNING ON FUMES

With 218 delegates up for grabs in North Carolina and Indiana on Tuesday, analysts are predicting that Tuesday’s events could be the final round in the battle for the Democratic presidential nomination.
Sens. Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama endured one last battle before IN and NC voters headed to the polls regarding Clinton’s gas tax holiday. Obama slammed the plan and Clinton, in turn, launched a last-minute ad Monday asking, “What has happened to Barack Obama?“. Obama responded with another ad, stating that Clinton is offering us more of the same old negative politics.
According to a NY Times article, “You can tell where Mrs. Clinton and Mr. Obama think they have their best shot by where they will be on Tuesday night: Mrs. Clinton has a hotel ballroom in Indianapolis, and Mr. Obama, after some last-minute debate, finally decided on a rally at a coliseum in Raleigh, N.C.”
Early exit polls suggest it may play out similarly, but, rest assured, I’ll have a recap of the primaries on Wednesday.
U.S. WITHDRAWS TROOPS

A Marine soldier from C company 1/6 24 MEU guards a house captured from Talibans several days ago.
The U.S. military, on Tuesday, said that it would withdraw 3,500 soldiers who were deployed in Iraq as part of a surge in February 2006.
According to a statement, soldiers from the 3rd Infantry Division will return to Fort Benning, GA, “in the next several weeks.”
The withdrawal is part of a plan to complete a removal of the 30,000 surge troops deployed to curb sectarian violence in Iraq.
The complete withdrawal is planned to be done by July and have a 45-day evaluation period before considering the overall level of U.S. troops.
At least 166 U.S. troops have been killed this year. Since the “war on terror” began, over 4,000 troops have died.

Yes Jeremiah Wright i know he’s a man of the cloth but he needs to shut up. Although i do agree with some of the things he says. White america doesn’t need to hear that right now let’s wait till Obama becomes president thanks.
The troops damn it’ s about time, let those men and women come home.

Having had an opportunity to hear Jeremiah Wright speak on several occasions, I agree whole-heartedly with his sermons. However, I am also now assured that Jeremiah is working hard to damage the chances of Obama being President. I suppose he believes if he is not going to get an opportunity to ride the gravy train to the ball, then no one should go. So sad…
But there are two sides to every story and some fault lies with Obama. How is it that you can let a group of people who have questioned everything about you from the beginning determine with whom you will maintain relationships? Funny thing, soon after Obama denounced Wright, the same people who demanded it immediately began to say that still couldn’t trust Obama because he took too long to cut the ties…
The lesson for Obama is…play the game by your own rules, at least if you lose, it will have been on your own terms because the truth of the matter is (and we all knew this) they will continue to change the rules in he middle of the game.
BTW…why hasn’t anyone brought up the fact that Jeremiah Wright was a trusted advisor to Bill Clinton during both of his administrations? Jeremiah Wright is the black pastor who introduced the Clintons to black paators throughout the Chicago area.

SPIKE SAID IT BEST, DUDE NEEDS TO SHUT UP!!!
of course its a conspiracy to ruin Obama’s chances, no doubt in my mind. How dumb can one be to keep saying the ubsurd and stupid things that wright says! MAJOR DAMAGE CONTROL, ASAP! Honestly, I think this guy is being paid to continue saying the stuff he says, because I dont understand what other reason he has to continue with it, if he knows it’s damaging Obama’s image. I thought when I first saw a clip of what he was saying on tv, that it was a joke of some sort, but it wasnt, and I was amazed that someone could be so dumb as to even say that stuff on tv. Well, I just hope people have more sense and better judgment…this should not be factor in people voting for or against Obama. And if it is, then they’re simple minded.
It’s good that they’re withdrawing a great majority of troops, however, all of them need to be taken out of the middle east. There is no reason for them to be there, nor are they serving any purpose being there! WAKE UP ALREADY!

Sigh, I really hope Obama wins, as for troops no fucking brainer, go back home, stop the killin, over 600,000+ Iraqi Civilians died, children, women, everyone, no one deserves that, they didn’t do shit, they shoulda just left after the saddam thing. Still no weapons, its all bullshit, its funny they only show u the soldiers who passed, but they don’t say shit about the amount of people dying in Iraq, I mean if u see underground news its a sad ass sight, children with legs/arms torn off literally, i mean the sight is def not for the squeamish. To top it all of some of these so called “Soldiers” commit war crimes and rape some of the women in Iraq, thats the exact same thing hitler did, and when he did it, it was considered wrong, now the same thing happening but no one cares. People really need to educate themselves, stop being ignorant, stop with the white black, only one race = human race. We gotta look after each other, sorta worries me cuz oil is running out, I feel like the US is gonna fuck someone else over like they’ve been doing for ages, no wonder its the most hated country statistically.. It’s not the people but the people running in government etc.. it’s also the hillbillies who have a problem with another culture, religion, race. Complete BS.

saying for the whole 20 years Obama been going to that church. Why Spike didn’t
tell him to shut up when he was making X. Don’t be fooled people. Rev. Wright was
the homie of all these people that are telling him to hush. When Obama asked him
not to speak at his anouncment to run, but afterwards appoints him as an advisor in
his campagin he knew. Rev Wright did the same to Oprah when she left the
church in the 80’s. Obama was still there. You believe in the message where you

I to wonder what’s with Pastor Wright and all the talking, I pray it does not hurt Obama’s campaign. As for Pastor Wright I have attended his church a couple of times and he was a guest speaker in one of my classes at Chi-State, the man is the bomb and he is a real guy….like a real type guy. I do believe with the media hyping up the stories that it makes Wright look like a big mouth etc….like I say he speaks volumes, no different then a lot of Pastor’s in churches. The difference is that he so happened to be Obama’s Pastor, and Pastor of one of Chicago’s biggest congregations and someone caught footage on their camera phones or his weekly tapings and set it off.

Ya’ll know how they do us while they sweep their ish under the rug.. I can’t stand it cos I could do a mini sample study of how they report black news vs any other race. And they we cant even get along as black people to begin with.. But i’m guilty of not getting along my black brothers and sisters too if I must be honest.

PROVOST...

I’m disappointed in Spike Lee for expecting us to believe he thinks the solution is that simple, and for failing to consider that his own rise to influence came through - lest we all forget - his willingness to speak truth to power!
Even IF you can get Wright to be silent, I don’t understand how you can logically expect it to actually benefit Obama’s support base. Consider this: Wright spoke before the NAACP; he’s also undoubtedly spoken before many Black interest groups since then, only off-camera. Do you think that a significant number of those people will not be voting for Obama, because they clapped and cheered for Wright? Bringing the matter closer to home, will any of YOU be deciding not to vote for Obama because you’ve been exposed to Wright and his cunning trickery?
To take a look at Obama’s non-Black support base, it makes little sense to assume that these people (who have looked past a host of other differences between themselves and Obama in order to support him in the first place) would need only an inflammatory comment or two from the man’s pastor to abandon ship.
If anyone doesn’t support Barack Obama today, it is most likely because they didn’t support him before they ever knew who Jeremiah Wright was. Don’t be gullible. No one is paying Wright to speak, either. Why? Because they realize that his vocality is not pivotal to the direction of this election, it is not WORTH paying for.

now this has turned into an attack on the black church ; i say bullpudd’n the black church in my opinion has gotten off course . all diffrent kinds of religious sects clashing. thinking one is more superior than the other, it is a division right in our on back yard . apostolics doing their thing . baptist off into their world, methodist , and other sects all over the globe. jockeying to see who’s the best . preachers living high on the hog , its getting to their heads. they look at the large mega churches and they head gets big to . now rev wright runs out front and digs a hole for obama and if he wasn’t a publicity hound most of the white blacklash might of blown over. a lady asked me do i go to church i replied i’ve had my full of church its to transparent. but i won’t turn my back on god. he see’s all the jack-legged preachers, mininsters etc….. you know who you are. and all you high-minded church folks know i’am not lieing . belonging to your fraternal org. who controls who . who’s zoom’n who. take that inventory all you high and mighty folks . god knows what you do before you do. this is not an attack on black anthing its only serves as your wake-up call all ye divided black folks. rev. wright gets to retire , a gift from his parrishners to the lily white afflent neighborhood of the same people thats we are getting the BLACKLASH FROM. I have had the pleasure of seeing Reverend Wright preach and I must say his message has always been virtually the same over the years. The only difference is now what he’s saying is no longer in the confines of church, its being broadcasted all over the country. With that being said, I find it funny Obama denounces his pastor for years when obviously his message must appeal to him if he has been his pastor for years. I will say that I remember Wrights sermons being a little more political than religious. I don’t completely understand Wright’s motives right now though.

It is sad that Obama cant even get the support of his own people. For years, parents have been telling their black children that they can be the President if they so desire and now as close as we are, once again, the blacks are hating on themselves. #37 you can not be serious? I don’t think ppl are disagreeing with the content of Rev’s message. He did not lie. Michael Moore even acknowledged that. I am no where near Rev’s age so I didn’t experience the blatant racism of his era. I can’t say what he should and should not say. Even more so, White Americans really should not be telling a Black elderly man how he should feel and express his experience.
But the timing was/is horrible. A lot of Americans I believe would feel betrayed if they voted for Obama and he got in office and talked about race, race, race. Yes there is still a lot of racism but it must not be that bad with the success he is and will continue to have.
So, no we are not Uncle Toms. Rev Wright is actually acting Uncle Tomish. Bob Johnson is an excellent example of an Uncle Timmy.
