POLITICS: IT’S NOT OVER, IS IT?

According to the May 19th issue of Time, Sen. Barack Obama has refused to play by the old political rules and he’s about to be rewarded for it.

On Thursday, Obama sat down with NBC’s Brian Williams who asked if he is the presumptive nominee of the Democratic Party. Despite having more pledged delegates, popular votes, states won and money raised (and now superdelagates), Obama replied, “Not yet. I will be if Sen. Clinton decides not to go on or if we complete these six contests and we are ahead as we are now.” Check out the full interview.

Obama also made an appearance at the Capitol, which his campaign described as an opportunity to create an image of Sen. Obama as the soon-to-be-nominee. Elated members on the House floor seemed to agree, according to a NY Times article.

He has made no effort to pressure Sen. Hillary Clinton to end her run. In recent interviews, he has even praised her as a formidable candidate who could not yet be counted out. One organization, however, is not too happy with her.

On Friday, Color of Change denounced the Clinton campaign for stoking racial division in what they described as “a last-ditch effort to convince superdelegates to hand her the nomination, even as she faces almost sure defeat among voters”. With six contests left offering a total of 274 delegates, Obama will likely secure the necessary 2,025 delegates needed to win the nomination, and Color of Change wants to make sure that superdelegates don’t overrule the choice of voters.

Last week, more than 30,000 petitioners signed an open letter to party leaders and superdelegates asking them to “reject the idea that the nomination can be won with a strategy that preys on racism, sows division, and disenfranchises millions of voters”.

i saw part of that interview, i loved it, hes always careful as to what and how he says it, he very real, just because he’s well spoken, but if you let one of us translate it the way he wanted to say it, ya’ll would really see how much like you he really is. I won my vote along time ago. he never gets ahead of himself, or let the media trick him into saying something he didnt mean, or want to say. OBAMA for Life, YES WE CAN!!

  9. Sharonda

I’m proud of both of Obama and Hilary, but someone is dragging this out a little too far.I think most are just tired of it, like I am.I guess Hilary is too worried about wanting to win sometimes you have to let go.It’s like ping-pong-back and forth between two good players. This race is bigger than both Obama and Hilary.I hope something does turn out great from all of this.

  10. Flygirl

i would like to see a post about Hill’s comment about her getting the white uneducated vote…

  11. 1prettyb

    OBAMA ’08….
Can’t ya’ll see that the media is hyping this democrat nominee thing way up…it is just a deploy to take our attention off of the likes of MCCAIN. With so much focus on these two nobody is looking at the real issue….we want a DEMOCRAT as the next president. It is normal to want to divide and conquer but it is time we realize that our ultimate goal is DEMOCRAT… Hillary makes my ass itch just as bad as the next Clinton but I cannot help but say that if it were her fate to win the nomination I would have voted for her come NOV>

  12. 1prettyb

YES WE CAN AND WE WILL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  13. #10: As I mentioned in Angel’s Kanye West post, I included that in a political round up yesterday.

  14. #7: Thanks, I had seen a draft of the cover earlier this week, but couldn’t find any details about it, so I thought it must have been a very late April Fools joke or something.

I am so proud of this man, his eloquence, his poise and his humilty, how could people think his is an elitist! He is gracious to Sen. Clinton to a fault sometimes and she does not return the favor. I understand her reason for fighting on, this may be her last chance to see and office that she has been bidding her time for since her husbands days in office, she is not ready to fade to black… But what is, is and God willing, he will seal the deal and be the democratic nominee with out question.

    OBAMA 08

  31. M$. Ho!!@nd

  32. yomama

some people here know nothing about politics..
wanting someone to win because of thier race is ignorent
obamas real name is barry,,his mama is a white lady
dont believe all the hype,,,hes not going to be helping any blacks thats for sure,..
just watch and see…this man is not who everyone thinks he is…

  33. V

Nic picc, i’m soooo happy obama is really gonna win this. I don;t even live in the states anymore i just want to see a black man in power, it s about time!

  34. judasgoat

no; its far from over oh ‘tricky mccain’ is out the box w/ the war vets talking about his distinquished service in the war. which is a hold card and a ace in the hole. this is a cross country race and the finish line isn’t in site until november. w/ all this anti- american sendiment being thrusted upon americans. now people want to scapegoat anybody so watch out for the traps. ronald reagan went for the “self- esteem jugglar” when he spoke to his base which got them fired up and he won 2 landslide victorys when he ran for office. so lets move away from any reference to any comments which mature adults would be offended. you DO-NOT want to alienate the senior citizens anymore than you have to. i see the republicans bum rushing the same old tax and spend tag your way but after bush who can you tax and what can we spend? its more like get your coats on, cause we are going to have a freezing and cooling period on tax and spend. the race is far from over. just as you get over the hillary hill look-out. you got mccain, rush limp/ba, fox, and a host of folks, see iam even backing off the name calling this is the real deal now. scrunitze should be part of your name. just remember reagan pumped up the self esteem of his base because they felt under attack, being labeled and scorned around the world so take a page from the past. good luck you’ve only just begun. there’s room enough for everyone. peace

  35. Flygirl

Oh okay I must have missed and I havent checked the other blog.. THX

  36. Nice cover, he’s doing his thing but wow; Hillary sureeee is holding on for dear life; jus admit defeat already, lol

  37. sun in scorpio

You idiot # 33. His real name is Barry? Everyone is “ignorent”, but you aren’t??
Phew! Thanks for the late-day chuckle, yomama.

  38. tiffany

  39. Rocio Guirao Diaz Pictures

    thanx

  40. I love this cover, Obama is so regal in appearance. It’s like he was born to do this.

  41. NoMoSoul

Whoever said they’d vote for McCain should Hillary win the nomination, and then run across the border????? is stupid. I hope u were joking.

Anyway it is what it is. Obama looks like he’ll be our next President in the event that he beats McCain, which he should have no problem doing. These primaries have gone on for too long, i feel. Hillary put up a good fight and lost control of her own destiny because she really ran a terrible campaign. The people in her circle did her no justice (like Bob Johnson). I like the woman, she’s strong, very ambitious, and has a very interesting dynamical childhood. I know all about her supposed “dark side”, but I respect her for being the kind of woman that she is.

I think it would be wise for Obama to choose Hillary as his running mate. VP. Its better than nothing. U dont want to have wasted about a year campaiging for the number 1 spot only to get nothing, so number 2 should do for her.

Stupid political pundits can say whatever they want, about how these two on one ticket would be too much for Americans to handle at once. But i strongly disagree. Based on popularity alone Obama-Clinton would MURDER Mccain in the general election. Hands down. And together they have so much to offer this great nation. It would help with our road to recovery.

Two minorities on a ticket? That would be a great message to send to the rest of the world. That America has finally arrived in the new millenium. Obama I hope you understand this and offer her the VP position. It could definitely help you as well as America. Its what we need, whether some like it or not. You’re both phenomenal candidates who never give up a fight. You said “Hillary and I were friends before the election, and we’ll be friends after.”

So do it. Help this country.

Please don’t erase my post like last time, whoever moderates it.

  42. Carlitos

I do agree that people shouldn’t vote for a particular race but should vote for who they think will get the job done and do the right thing. To Yo Mama, Even you are Half of any race and also half white then according the the United States that person is generally looked at as the minority half. I have yet to see an individual that is half white and another race classify themselves as white and I live in a mid to upper class area. Remember Plessy v. Ferguson. If that’s not enough proof then I don’t know what is.

  43. Carlitos

*Even if you (or any individual). Sorry for the typo.

    OBAMA O8!

    oh, OBAMA-CLINTON O8!

  45. yomama

I just think its humorous how people think obama is diffrent from any politician,,
it would be nice to believe and all but it just aint true
    sorry,,
if it makes u feel better he’s the same color as u that’s great but it dosnt change much
this is just my opinion and no need to call names,,

    ps
dick cheney is 8th cousins with obama

  47. NoMoSoul

It doesnt matter if he’s 8th cousins with Barack. Who gives a flyin fuck about being 8th cousins? It doesnt mean he’s in league with Cheney. They’re not immediate family and even family members dont share the same views. So quit with the argument cause its wack.

Obama is the real deal. There is no acting. Sure he’s a politician, and sure i know he agrees with Rev. Wright on some of his views and is just doing what a politican does and says to win votes, but he’s more honest about his stance than any politician so far.

He’s a great guy. You’re just denying it.

  48. mzhonesty

jus throw in the towel senator hiliary clinton cause u aint getting the nomination. how about accepting offer as vice president.

  56. *

51 comments on Barack Obama, 201 on Kanye West. Gotta love black people!

  57. Wick

In no way do i support Hillary’s campaign and I disagree with many of her tactics, but I don’t understand why there is so much sexism going around.

Everyone’s comments calling her a bitch while advocating for Obama are contradictory to the message of change and progress that Obama espouses. It’s counterproductive towards progress, and is just as ignorant as the use of racial slurs directed at Obama.

If you support Obama, that’s great, but do it with some intelligence and class, please!
