POLITICS: IT’S NOT OVER, IS IT?

According to the May 19th issue of Time, Sen. Barack Obama has refused to play by the old political rules and he’s about to be rewarded for it.

On Thursday, Obama sat down with NBC’s Brian Williams who asked if he is the presumptive nominee of the Democratic Party. Despite having more pledged delegates, popular votes, states won and money raised (and now superdelagates), Obama replied, “Not yet. I will be if Sen. Clinton decides not to go on or if we complete these six contests and we are ahead as we are now.” Check out the full interview.

Obama also made an appearance at the Capitol, which his campaign described as an opportunity to create an image of Sen. Obama as the soon-to-be-nominee. Elated members on the House floor seemed to agree, according to a NY Times article.

He has made no effort to pressure Sen. Hillary Clinton to end her run. In recent interviews, he has even praised her as a formidable candidate who could not yet be counted out. One organization, however, is not too happy with her.

On Friday, Color of Change denounced the Clinton campaign for stoking racial division in what they described as “a last-ditch effort to convince superdelegates to hand her the nomination, even as she faces almost sure defeat among voters”. With six contests left offering a total of 274 delegates, Obama will likely secure the necessary 2,025 delegates needed to win the nomination, and Color of Change wants to make sure that superdelegates don’t overrule the choice of voters.

Last week, more than 30,000 petitioners signed an open letter to party leaders and superdelegates asking them to “reject the idea that the nomination can be won with a strategy that preys on racism, sows division, and disenfranchises millions of voters”.

Obama will win the democratic nomination. And Hillary will drop out by June. WATCH AND SEE. I give her props for staying in soo long and not giving up. But sometimes we need to just bow out gracefully instead of making ourselves look ridiculous. Obama will secure this nomination, and if he continues, he’ll secure the seat in the White House in November. His biggest goal is not to secure the democratic nomination. That’s practically his. But to get Hillary Clinton’s supporters to back him up instead of going and switching to McCain. How can he do that? Bring Hillary on as his vice president.

oh and i love that picture. Barack is soo handsome for his age. That smile is just beautiful. What an attractive Black president we will have.

    OBAMAAAAAAAAAAAA

  3. STLCHICK

I love OBAMA!!!! Hillary should quit and join him as a running mate.

  4. gee

@51 that was ignorant but it was funny ass hell

  5. SouthernGoddess

he’s got my vote…black or white i like him better than hillary clinton…shes in it just to say she won and her antics are too dirty & childish for me. i’d rather have barack in office for four years trying to make a difference (he wouldnt be too bad to look at either!), than 4 years of listening to hillary do nothing but make lame and humorless jokes about the economy & our country’s rivals…

definitely going out to vote in november and im definitely voting for Obama!
    and @ 51…thats hilarious!

  6. NoMoSoul

Hillary isnt running for President just to be the first woman President. No. Thats retarded. She’s not that shallow. She wants it because its a POWERFUL position. She’s highly ambitious and intelligent enough to make it this far. Every move she’s made has been calculated and anticipated.

Being the first female president would only be a plus to the job. But she has wanted this for a LLOOOOOONGGG time.

So please stop saying she’s doin it just to make history. Thats only part of it. She’s doin it because it gives her the power to shape this country with her own ideals and beliefs. Thats Hillary.

Lord have mercy….some of these comments…congrats to Obama…even though I really wasn’t a supporter…but u gotta give credit where its due…maybe Hils will settle for VP or something

  9. blackenese

U not winning but keep trucking…women pride.

‘some people here know nothing about politics..
wanting someone to win because of thier race is ignorent
obamas real name is barry,,his mama is a white lady
dont believe all the hype,,,hes not going to be helping any blacks thats for sure,..
just watch and see…this man is not who everyone thinks he is…’

^In terms of policies, race should not be brought into it. From an aesthetic and cultural point of view however, race is very important. Obama may not be full black but he is ‘of colour’ which is a valuable thing not to be underestimated. For any of us who have looked at the political and cultural landscape and felt overlooked and ignored and for all those wayward, dissillusioned black males who have not had role models outside of gansta-made-good musicians, Obama represents a new cultural oasis. He represents the person of colour who gets up in the morning and just ‘is’. He is not removed from black culture, he is not confused, he is just not a walking cliche. And in a time where we need a fresh perspective his dual heritage allows him to see both sides of the coin in a way that a full black or white candidate never could. If Obama is nominated it will have an effect on the cultural landscape make no bones about it. Obama is perhaps one of the greatest hopes for the future of the planet we have in terms of racial harmony. The experience of being multi-racial is unique and what gave Bob Marley and Mariah Carey etc. added raison detre to remain where they are. Case in point Mariah’s been ridiculed for years for not picking a side, when truth be told when it comes down to her DNA why should she? Racial ambiguity itself isn’t a bad thing, but since race became a political tool to keep people in their place we should recognise Obama’s stance with more insight… it’s the thing in him that will keep him focused on what’s right for ‘the’ people and not just ‘some’ people… he has a little bit of all of us in them. Additionally, unlike Bush, Obama has lived abroad and that’s why he has managed to unite so many overseas to. I say run with it, because this is where real long lasting change begins:-)

    YES WE CAN !!!
MAKE CHANGE IN 2008!!GO OBAMA ………….

I love the fine print written on the lower right corner.. lol..

  13. yomama

70 i hear you completly but i dont trust him like i dont trust any politician
sure he got a great smile gives great speeches and seems like a great guy but I guess in my mind i feel all politicians are greasy deep down and will do whatever is needed to get where they need to be and once thier there it all changes,,,
the whole change is fresh slogan seems like a gimmick to me..
i live in the bronx and they sell the change is fresh shirts on the same display as they sell the scarface, skeletons and “icy” fruit loops shirts whatever
for those that dont know the ones with the cartoon characters on them with dollar signs all over and refrences to drugs…anyway

its just interesting to see young kids who know nothing about politics or care to suddenly want obama to win because of his color. but as you said of course people are going to get excited since there has never been a black president before and i understand it to a point,,,,

68 i think thats pretty sad
there are long lists of african americans to be proud about…
your statement is kind of offensive to all the blacks who have gone down in history who have done things way larger than run for president but if he makes you feel better more power to you

PEOPLE DO NOT BUY INTO THIS FALSE SENSE OF SECURITY. HILLARY CAN STILL WIN ALL THE REMAINING STATES AND WIN THIS NOMINATION, IF POEPLE DO NOT GET OUT AND VOTE FOR OBAMA.
IF HILLAY IS ABLE TO WIN THE NEXT 6 STATES, SHE WILL WALK AWAY WITH THE NOMINATION, SHE WILL TAKE IT RIGHT OUT OF OBAMA’S HANDS.
OBAMA HAS NOT WON YET, DON’T BUY THE HYPE!!! THIS IS AN ATTEMPT TO LULL YOU INTO A FALSE SENSE OF SECURITY.
PEOPLE IF YOU ARE FROM THE UPCOMING STATES, OR KNOW PEOPLE IN THE UPCOMING STATES, TELL YOUR PEOPLE TO MAKE SURE THEY GET OUT AND VOTE, BECAUSE HILLARY, AND BILL, ARE OUT CAMPAIGNING HARD EVERYDAY, TO TAKE GET THIS NOMINATION FOR OBAMA, AND HILLARY WILL WIN IT, IF SHE IS ABLE TO WIN THE NEXT 6 STATES.

THE STATES WHICH HAVE NOT VOTED YET AND ARE STILL UPCOMING ARE: WEST VIRGINIA, AND KENTUCKY, AND OREGON, PUERTO RICO, MONTANA, and SOUTH DAKOTA.

DON’T MISS IT YOUR VOTING DATE, EVERY SINGLE VOTE COUNTS AND OBAMA NEEDS EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM, HE HAS NOT WON YET, THERE IS STILL 6 STATES TO GO!!!

  15. SassyT

@74Sara>>>mathematically it is impossible for her to surpass Obama. She cannot get the nom even if she wins all the remaining states. They’ve been talking about it on the news. Obama has now surpassed her in superdelegates (as of today), he has the popular vote and more states. She can’t get the nomination, period.

  16. moxpoe1

Clinton needs to accept the fact that Obama will be the democratic nominee.

Anyone who believes that Clinton should continue on at this point is simply being sympathic to her, knowing full well that there is no way for her to make the case at the convention for her nomination.

  17. truffsaya

Look @ Obama SHITTING ALL OVER Hilary Whatshername’s career… bwhahahahahahahahha

  18. nika

Lord. Yes it is impossible for hillary to win.

If you watch when they do primaries, the guy thats always at the map (I forget his name) showed us what it would be like if she took the remaining states. Obama will still be ahead. He even gave her the majority of the rest of the superdelegates. She still was behind.

Obama will win. Now, he’s gotten another 4 superdelegates…. 2 of which were hers. Please believe. Obama has this.

  19. Mommy x 2

YES WE CAN and WE WILL. Win that is, Obama will win. He has endured the ugliness and the negativity and the betrayal of the last few months and weeks. This only proves his resilience and his strong leadership abilities. Hillary represents the old, not the new and definitely not change–I pray he will not select her as the VP. I know she was the presumptive nominee almost from the moment Bill left office and she just knew she would have it, but she didn’t know about Barack and hey this is America where anything can happen.

  20. fuck obama

Fuck that crack head. He will be worst than George Bush.
Fake wanter be black crack head from Kansas.

  21. YDLAFAMS

F Obama…that long-legged mack daddy! McCain will make it rain (on a b*tch)!

  22. Lisa

It’s not over until Barack has enough delegates to clinch the nomination and he does not have enough delegates yet. If Hillary wins the next remaining states, the decision will be left up to the superdelegates. If Barack wins the nomination he needs Hillary’s supporters to vote for him in the general election. If he does not win over her voters, he will lose to Mccain in November.

  23. Lisa

I don’t think Obama can beat Mccain.

  24. Aries

    Obama All the way!!

It really doesnt matter what anyone says..CHECK the facts people. The majority of Americans want Obama and dammit thats who we should get. Time and Time again they said he could not would not be able to do it but he keeps proving them wrong! They thought he was through because he unfortunately had an ignorant person in his life trying to bring him down. YES! we all know that he is a politician, but please tell me people what is wrong with us wanting to believe in change? Whats wrong with believing in hope?

  25. danny

Check out TISA’s “Vote Obama” video ft. Chris Brown, Kanye West, and Jay Z. I wonder if this video is helping the campaign.

  26. GO SPURS

Enough politics for now, Obama is a sexy older man. He could read to me and get me in the zone. Not the 2-3 but the 6-9. He is all that a black man should be.

  27. Qdoba

GO OBAMA!!!!! I live in a NC and I am proud we came out a represented! What irritates me the most is the polling they are doing now shows that about 50% of Clinton backers would not vote for Obama if he is the Democratic nominee. That shows the divisiveness of her campaign and the fact they are SORE LOSERS!! Some said they would vote for McCain or not vote at all. Yeah, thats the way to go, get a Republican back in office!!! That way of thinking is SO backwards its not even funny. TO ALL THE HILLARY SUPPORTERS………..ITS OVER, LIVE WITH IT!!
