I came across an article Friday morning which asked, “Will black voters stay home if Obama loses nomination?”
Following his recent endorsements from two former DNC Chairs, Paul Kirk and Joe Andrew, who withdrew support from Sen. Hillary Clinton and endorsed Sen. Barack Obama, Obama is gaining ground in superdelegates, trailing Clinton by 20.
According to the article, though, black voters are concerned that Obama will be denied the Democratic presidential nomination, and if that happens, a lot of them may stay home in November: “If Obama isn’t the nominee, ‘there would be a significant number of African-Americans who would stay home. They’re not voting for (presumptive Republican nominee) John McCain,’” predicted David Bositis, a senior analyst at the Joint Center for Political and Economic Studies, which researches black voting trends.
What about Hillary? In the article, Todd Shaw, a University of South Carolina political science professor, cited a broad disenchantment in the black community with both Bill and Hillary, following Bill’s performance during the South Carolina primary and Clinton supporter James Carville’s description of New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson as “Judas” for endorsing Obama.
“The comment plays very badly with African-Americans and Latinos,” Shaw said. “They remind them of ‘Look what we’ve done for you; you should stay in line.’ That doesn’t sit well with voters of color. They view it as Northern machine politics or Old South boss politics.”
James Mondesire, president of the Philadelphia NAACP said it’s foolish for any Democrat to refuse to vote if their candidate isn’t the nominee:
“It’s a stupid way for Obama supporters to think and a stupid way for Hillary Clinton supporters to think,” said Mondesire, a pledged Clinton delegate. “It’s a selfish and destructive way to think. I can’t think of what the Supreme Court would look like if McCain were elected. Roe v. Wade could be diminished, and Brown v. Board of Education could be impacted.”
I think the question is absolutely ridiculous; is there a poll or survey floating around asking if white voters will stay home if Hillary loses the nomination? I digress…
Having won more states, Obama may be on his way to securing the presidency, and one organization wants to make sure that the superdelegates’ votes match those of the people.
Late last week, Color of Change launched an online petition to ensure superdelegates must not overrule the choice of voters. In just two days, nearly 25,000 people have signed it. According to one petitioner: “Black folks are pissed about the possibility of Clinton snatching the nomination, and folks are starting to take notice.”
How about if MCCAIN WINS? IF HE WINS IM MOVING TO CANADA. AMERICA CANNOT BE THAT DAMN DUMB!!!
I remember a time not that long ago when black people loved the Clintons, even going as far as to say that Bill Clinton was the first black president. I live in D.C and I remember the first inaguration. You could see nothing but a sea of brown faces… but now the same people that loved the Clintons now call them liars and thieves and bitches and bastards and even compare them to the racist, oppressive Bush/Cheney administration. What happened? What did I miss? Do we have to hate the Clintons, in order to support Obama?
Obama has said many times publically, he wants the democratic party to come together, whether he receives the nomination or not. He has taken the high road and I suggest many of you do the same.

historically, white democrats have taken advantage of black people and the black vote. They automatically assume that black voters have their back just because they’re Democrat. Look at the current sheisty governor of Maryland: Martin O’Malley. Black folks came out to vote for him in droves in 2006, but did he hire any blacks folks for his administration? Hardly. He used his black Lieutenant Governor as an Uncle Tom to get black votes, and now he put than man on the backburner and he gets no publicity. Since then, I have changed my party to independent (at least while im living in Maryland). I have lost all faith in White Democrats.
So, no , I won’t be voting in November.
I MAY stay home, I’m still debating. All depends on if I’m feeling Ralph Nader. Obama’s my man, main reason for voting because he inspires me. Hillary does not, she annoys me.

The funny thing about this post is reading most of the post prove the study right.
Without the vote the candidate has no vote. You ever notice how if something is
unpopular the candidate is againt it. Candidates do what the majority of the people
want. This is the reason ROE v Wade wont be overturn. Read people. conservatives
have been trying for 10 years. If you vote you give a damn about what’s going on. I
being, a wife, a mother, a jornualist, a soldier, and a Republican really wanted Rudy
G, but he droped out. I’m going with Mc Cain, one because I think he is the next
best person, and two I dont want ANYONE else picking for me. You lose the right to
complain about anything when you give up your right to participate. If you dont like
what Clinton is saying if she win make her change it. People have the power. The
They way I see it you have two choices. You can stay at home and let McCain win
or you can get out there and and rally ( not riot) with the DEM party, join up with like
minds, and make your candidate do what you feel is right. Contry to popular believe
leaders are not born leaders, some of them are made.
It’s funny how everyone was riding with the Clintons back in the 90s-2000s until Obama popped up out of nowhere……..

I always here what the Clinton’s have done for the Black community, and when I ask what people can’t name one specific thing. I am from California and the only thing Black folks here remember about the Clinton presidency is the “3 Strikes” law. That law locks more Black men up than any other race in this state. A Black man here can get convicted for: robbery, assault, drugs ect and that is automatically a strike. A Mexican and White man get convicted on the same charges and somehow that’s not a strike.
If you are somehow talking about welfare reform, that was a Republican idea. FYI there has been more White people on welfare than Black (at least in my state) so that program was to help them not us.
Maybe they have done a lot for your state please share because I can’t find one thing that (Bill Clinton) has done to strictly benefit Black people.
Just like Black people shouldn’t be voting for Obama because he’s Black, people shouldn’t be voting for Hillary because of Bill.

I’m not sure what I’ll do come November. I think Godzillary has left a bad taste in several voters mouths. From the beginning, her campaign has suggested that Obama supporters are naive, and that he is unqualified to be president-when in fact, he has more experience in Washington than the last two presidents. If she does win the nomination by some miracle, she going to have to work twice as hard because she has to win over swing voters and people within her own party.
If Obama doesn’t get the nomination, I aint voting, and neither should any upstanding citizen.

Honestly, because Obama is in the lead and if I feel they have stolen the election from him, then they are telling me my vote doesn’t count and they are going to do and put who ever they want in office no matter what the masses think.

Hillary Clinton jumped on the character assasination bandwagon of the Republican. She has SOOO much dirt in her past, that is Obama have thrown in her face, se, and her husband would be running, and hiding in shame, especially for their gulit by association tactics Hillary has pulled during this election. Luckily for Hillary, Obama is not into character assasination, nor is he into dirty, gutter politics like Hillary Clinton, and the ever hypocritical republican party.
I will not forget how Hillary, when she begain to lose to Obama began sending out to media outlets false information to the media, insinuating that Obama was an muslim. When that tactic didn’t work, she jumped on the bandwagon, of trying to accuse Obama of being unpatriotic because he served on an Anti-charity board with someone named Ayers ( A charity board which by the way has 10 members on it, comprising of doctors, lawyers, professors, city official (both republicans, and democrats, a board which met ONLY 4 time a year). Hillary went out of her way in Philadelphia to try to tarnish Obama, purposefully ignoring the fact that when the events done by Ayers (here in America), happened when Obama was 8 years old (a child), and he and his mother were NOT even living in the US. Hillary then went out of her way to try to insinuate that Obama was again unpatriotic because of the words of someone else, his pastor, once again Hillary was very eager to jump on the bandwagon, trying to take advantage of the guilt by association techniques being used by the republicans, most of the mainstream press. Sometimes you have to take a stand even if it hurts you. If we allow the democratic party to allow Hillary to be the democratic nominee even though Barack Obama is winning and in the lead they may think they can do this in future elections as well. At least they will know that any time they do this the democratic party stands a chance of losing the entire election. If Obama had been trailing Hillary as she has been trailing him, they would have forced him to concede a long time ago.
Remember the bus boycott, those people stayed united and walked everywhere did anything to avoid riding the bus until they had accomplished their goal, and this went on over a year. Sometimes you have to sacrifice for change.
Oh yeah, if Barack Obama is not the democratic nominee, I WILL NOT VOTE FOR HILLARY CLINTON!

UPDATE | May 5, 11am ET : Hillary Clinton’s campaign today acknowledged plans to try to win seating of the disputed Michigan and Florida delegations to the Democratic Nation Convention at a meeting of the party’s Rules and Bylaws Committee on May 31.

Like many (most?) people here, I come from a long line of people who have voted Democrat since black people have had the post-reconstruction vote. And – yes – we rode hard for Bill back in the day. Now, though, if anything has turned me off politics it’s the crash & burn political tactics of the Clintons.
For the record: I never backed Hillary’s nomination. If anything, I hoped John Edwards would be the other front runner during the primaries. That said, I am not mad at Hillary because she if fighting hard to win the nomination (like everyone else, she’s in the race to win). What I despise are the filthy tactics she (and Bill!) are using to win AT ALL COSTS. Their actions prove to me that they have no love of their party, let alone for the black community. You all know the saying: “By their deeds ye shall know them.” They seem perfectly willing to leave the party in a shambles at their feet as long as they can divide the spoils up amongst themselves.
I think American politics really suffers because of the 2-party system. Especially black voters are darned if you do and damned if you don’t. The Republicans could care less about us/our vote, and the Democrats take us/our vote for granted. That’s why it saddens me personally to hear black people saying that – when Billary’s primary shenanigans are all said and done – they will STILL vote for her if she’s the nominee. Talk about kissing the hand that beats you….
