i wish i could cut my hair

I like it. Too many sisters define themselves by long hair, which is ridiculous. They can’t workout, they can’t sweat, the rollers are everywhere, all the time. I like the short look.

i love the short look! but i know i couldn’t work up the nerve to chop all my hair off like melanie did on the game. i’ve heard that people have gotten a full head weave and cut that up instead of their own hair.

I cut my hair short back in September…in fact, it’s a cut quite similar to Rihanna’s. I’ve never gotten so many compliments nor has my hair been easier to take care of. It’s so low-maintenance and still versatile. For all the ladies who are afraid that short hair will limit their options, fear not. You won’t believe how many great looks you can rock. Kelis didn’t invent short hair and she wasn’t the first to rock that type of style because i remember that model Omahyra Mota from Jay Z’s Change clothes video was rocking that cut back in 03/04.

I just cut my hair recently and love it. I’ve gotten nothing but compliments. If you’re going to do it, now is the time with summer approaching. The only problem is finding a stylist that you trust and know that they will do a good job. I like my beautician but she act like she is doing me a favor. Last time I checked I’m the one with the money.

i LOVE ri’s cut, short hair is really my thing now but why must her hair always look so dry at times. i hope she has time for conditioning treatments with all that time she spends on the road.

I love my short hair. I wash it and style it myself and go to the hairdresser only when I need a cut and thats like once every 2-3 months! Talk about low maintenance!

When I cut my hair years ago, I had a bob and loved it. I experiemented with other short styles, but I find having long hair (what I currently have going on) easier. All I have to do is wrap it and go. When I had the short hair, I had to worry about styling wax, mousse, heat, etc. So I guess I’m different and think long hair is easier to deal with.

#41, that’s good for people who that have hair that doesn’t grow fast, but I was always in the salon with my short cut to keep it maintanined because my hair grows super-fast. Those of you with short cuts, do it up because they are cute!

I cut my hair short back a few years ago, now I have dreads they’re quite long and i wear a lot of styles too short, pin up ,curly , really curly bouncy,straigth i never have hair where I can wear in some many verstaile ways but still remain my hair(dreads) with even cutting or remaining long, but whatever fits you.

Kelis made it hot though.But like Kelis stated she got her inspiration from back in the 80s where Salt-N-Pepa had their hair in Push It and MC Lyte, but Kelis made it her own style and everybody kind of took it from there with the chop because Kelis cut her hair in the video in Bossy.But I’m loving the looks.

Short hair is cute, but you have to have the face for it I think. I love my naturally long hair. No weaves, extensions, etc…sure it takes more work to manage…hair cholesterols, rollers, conditioning… but it’s all worth it when you know it looks good….i wouldn’t cut it for the world.

Yeah I agree #43, It’s not that my hair doesn’t grow fast its just that i grow my hair into different looks as it grows. When I get it cut I get it cut really low in some parts and when it starts to grow out it grows out into a different look.

Love the interview…I think short hair is more maintainence than long…You absolutely have to get it done at all times and i’m broke so like she said it woudn’t fit my lifestyle I can barely get to the salon now! I’m a no fuss kinda girl and my natural curls wouldn’t look good that short. But I really love the short cuts even if it is a trend, its just hair, it’ll grow back or just get a weave/wig!

The cut is Beautiful on Rhianna but never for me (my features are prominent and I need long hair to balance them out).

I have had my hair short since Feb 07 and I love it short!!! I get so many compliments on it and plus Ladies it gives you more room to use accessories. I always have on exciting earrings that zest it up! It also lets me play with my eye makeup for when I go out. I love it! I love it so much when I got to my stylists I get her to cut it more and more everytime!

Been there. Short hair needs to be maintained and trimmed making it more of a hassle than long hair IMO.
It’s also not for everyone.
Round faces or small heads w/ bigger bodies do not look good with short hair.

It takes a confident black woman to rock a short cut since long hair is associated with beauty. Might I add though that short hair is just as difficult to maintain and more costly since it takes frequent styling to keep a neat and polished look.

And bragging on what type of hair you have (length, texture, etc) is so wack. Like I said confident women don’t have to hide behind one type of hair be it weaves or whatever. Having long hair is no better than having short or having a weave or whatever. Are we THAT immature?

I think it’s great that women want to make a change and do the short hair thing. With the right cut it can look awesome. That being said short hair does not look good on everyone. For me length is not the problem but the way in which you style it. I find that getting it “done” i.e perms, press, flat iron is just too much work so I just go natural, wash and go!

I don’t like Rihanna’s or Keyshia’s cuts. I’ve never thought super short was a good look for Rihanna’s face, her features are so big and her head is so long and oddly shaped. I don’t think the razor cut is flattering on her. Keyshia’s head looks a mess lol I wouldn’t want anyone knowing I did that.

@ 3….That’s exactly what I did. I had my stylist sew-in a full head of weave, and he chopped that up into a real nice bob. It’s actually making me want to go ahead and cut my real hair.

It’s always good to experiment with weave if you’re not sure what you want to change as far as hair goes. Because if you don’t like, just take it out. It’s wayyyy better than doing something to your natural hair, hating it, and having to wait til it grows back out.

All fads are recycled. I love Kelis but she didn’t have the clout to make everyone turn on their heels and copy the short bob like Rihanna has.

Tocarra looks like a bobble head anyway and that short hair doesn’t help her. Everyone else looks gorgeous with their cuts. Halle inspired me to chop my hair off in 1990 but I finally grew it back a couple of years ago because it is high maintenance. I have thick coarse hair so between relaxing and trimming constantly, my beauty bills were crazy.

The haircuts are nice. I have already cut my hair shortlike 2years ago when Kelis first did it and my hair was very long. Now I’m letting it grown back and I might cut it again a few years down the line or not depending on how I feel. If you’re undecided then you should try a short wig first and see how you like the look on you.

I LUV the short look…I decided to chop all mine off alil while ago. I cut off like 5 inches, but it was so worth it because my hair is much more manageable than ever and looks healthier. I’ve also noticed that my hair grows back much quicker than normally.=]

I’ve been rockin short hair for over 5 years I love it. It’s my signature style!!! I do advise that before you cut be prepared to be commited to going to get it done!! And find a good stylist, who knows how to cut and take care of your hair.

@ 38 Kelis obviously didn’t invent short hair. There were others who rocked that hairstyle before her as it became their signature look (i.e Nia Long, Halle Berry).

However, Kelis was the first to make a drastic transition from long hair to short AND make it hot. After her first cut, she cut it again, which is exactly what RiRi did…after the fact.

I just wanted to bring up the fact that Kelis is a major trendsetter but not many people are aware of that as she is not constantly in the lime light like the other celebs are.

I just recently cut off my almost waist length hair gradually i started from the waist to the mid back, then the shoulder’s and now to my nape of the neck and am loving it!!!!! folks say i appear 10years younger and it is soooo convienent i wrap at night sometime and shack hair in the morning and out the door i go looking fly!!!!

I remember seeing alot of chicks all over the city with short asymetrical cuts after Kelis cut her hair like 4 yrs ago. I haven’t really noticed regular chicks copying the Rihanna’s hair. This cut was already “over” when Rihanna got it last year.

The new cut for the summer seems to be the mushroom with the bangs. Kelis, Katie Holmes, Ursula and models in fashion mags all seem to be doing that look now. Trends change so much and as soon as people jump on it it’s passed.

Well I am a client and dear friend of ursula and she is fabulous when it comes to doing hair not only does she style to fit your face but when you leave her chair you have a whole new attitude and confidence that you may not have had before big ups to the best hair stylist in the world!!!

Sometimes I fall into the zone of wanting long hair again, but when my hair was down my back I looked like an old lady and I acted like one too!!!! Now that it’s short, I feel so funky and fly all of the time, and it is so versatile. Some days I am rocking the Halle Berry cap cut, and some days it’s sticking straight up, and other days I flip the bangs.. I just love it. It has totally changed my attitude too! But you gotta be comfortable with yourself and not stuck on hair. Too many women hide behind their hair. Well some of them need to! LOL!!!!

I like so many other people on this post am so glad you did this. I was expecting to see some really cute summer cuts in my new Essence mag but they totally missed the bar on this one. Anyway, I too am strongly considering cutting my hair into a bob currently my hair is around bra strap length. But I LUV LUV LUV the long in the front short in the back bob, I had the bomb cut my freshman year in college…this chick in the dorms only charged $10 for the cut and it was perfect! Speaking from MY OWN experience of having both short and long hair, I found that longer hair is ACTUALLY EASIER TO MAINTAIN. When my hair was short, I had to buy those special tiny curlers to curl the layers and it was a lot of work ON A DAILY BASIS because I wanted it to look neat. Not to mention, I had to keep the back of my neck SHAPED UP in the BARBER which was expensive on a weekly basis. Once my hair grew back (THANK GOD) it was much easier to just to a ponytail, a wrap or just put on a headband and go - EACH TOOK 2-3 MIN. TOPS!!! This is nothing but a TREND that HALLE first made fly NOT THIS STYLIST OR THESE CHICKS. Get it straight. It’s a TREND THAT WILL SOON FADE. DON’T DO IT LADIES!!!! IT’S TOO MUCH WORK - IF YOU DON’T KEEP IT CUT, GLOSSED AND CURLED YOUR HAIR WILL LOOK LIKE A NAPPY TOUPE!!! DON’T DO IT LADIES - BESIDES MEN LOOOOOOOOVVVVVVVEEEEEEEEEE LONG HAIR. The key to great hair is to train it. Especially when it’s short. You have to train it to do the right things. If your hair is trained and healthy, it doesn’t matter what length it is, you can pull off any style. I struggled with a short cut in the beginning, but then I invested in the proper hair conditioner and trained it, then it became easier to maintain.

Short hair makes you look older so if you are 26 plus I would say no no and everyone can not rock a short do and it’s time that people realize that

I love my long hair. I don’t let it define me -I just love it…plus, I have a weird face shape..I think I have a “round” face and trust me, I’ve spent many a night in the mirror folding my hair up under to try and see what short style would look best. Plus, if I cut my hair, I’m scared I’d only have to wear it straight (like keep it flat ironed) and I prefer my hair when it’s wild and wavy…simply cuz I’m an 18-year-old girl who doesn’t really feel like doing much to her hair…

And, no no no, don’t knock the long hair just cuz short hair is in. Never. All styles are looking good as long as you keep it looking good.

yep i love short hair and the many looks we can do with it. Last year i woke up one morning and decided to cut off my hair. I went to the salon and told my hair dresser to cut it all off and make it look good! And she did. It was a bit longer in the front than the back but it was original and so for my personality. Then a couple weeks later i coloured it and then sometime after than began to designs in my hair and shaves. It was fun but so me..crazy. I find that people become their hair..like hair is so covetted and it really shouldn’t be..its just hair. People are so attatched to their lengths that they don’t want to let go of it. Cutting off my hair was the most liberating thing I’ve done in my life. I felt so free to be, and like such a free spirit that i am. It made me realize a lot of other thing that i was holding onto in my life and allowed me to let it go. I had long hair about below my shoulder blades and although it was a big change, it was time for it. AFTER ALL, its hair, it will grow back.

I find however, that people cut their hair sometimes to follow a trend or their favourite celebrities, and then they later regret doing so, either because something new comes along or they never liked the cut to begin with. Ladies, dont get manipulated by these trends. If you are really considering cutting your hair because you like how it looks on your favourite celeb, buy a custom cap wig or do a short weave FIRST. You get a better idea of how the style will look on you and you dont have to deal with the regret of cutting your hair, later.

Short hairstyles are cute…so are long styles as well. I was considering cutting my hair, but mama dukes and this interview made me realize i don’t have the discipline for it. Do wat you wanna do with your hair. Take risks. And why is everyone downplaying weaves? Queen B looks great with hers and i rock one all the time. I had long hair for over 10 years, I needed a change so I cut my hair really short last summer and I received so much attention everywhere I went. Within 3 months my hair had grew out of the style, my hair grew so much faster and healthier then when it was longer. My hair dresser trims my hair every couple of weeks, because of the new growth. It hasn’t been a year yet and my hair has already grown into a bob.

Although short hair is high maintenance, it is a great way to get healthy longer hair!!!

I cut my long hair off for my birthday when I was in college and had a short cut….and then in November I let it grow (not for any good reason, just to see what would happen)…and now that I have the long hair, I hate it!! It looks okay, but not as good as the short cut..I just made an appointment to cut it all off tomorrow and I’m excited!!

That being said, to each their own, if long hair looks better for you, do it, if short hair is good on you, then do it!

I had the Rihanna hair cut done in last December and now my hair is back to just under my shoulders..The texture of my hair is a mixture of my ethnicity (Black, Puerto Rican, Hawaiian and Irish).. Can you please please give me some tips on how to I can reduce the amount of times I perm my hair so I can get my natural curls back? I have had my hair permed since a child cause my step mom did not know how to deal with the curls and now I feel like I have to keep it up or else my edges will look ridiculous (I live in Florida by the way…HUMIDITY). Also, do you recommend Avlon products? I love the Avlon KeraCare conidtioner and shampoo ( I purchased them at the Premier Beauty Show here in Orlando earlier this year….).
