♫ THE NEW MUSIC REVIEW ♫

Monday, May 5, 2008

♫ Ne-Yo - Jealous (full) - listen
More music from Ne-Yo’s Year of the Gentlemen has leaked. “Jealous” is a mid-tempo track, but is still very much dance-influenced and driven. I guess he really was bored with just doing R&B. Although the music is a little different from what Ne-Yo has done on his past two records, “Jealous” still has those classic Ne-Yo lyrics. There are just some songs that you can tell are Ne-Yo records because of the arrangement and the way the chorus is written.

♫ Danity Kane feat. Missy Elliott - Bad Girl (full) - listen
Danity Kane is releasing the Missy Elliott-featured “Bad Girl” as their second single. And it’s about time too. Bad Boy is infamous for waiting too long in between singles. The girls are set to shoot a video for the Danjahandz-produced track in LA, dueling with the girls from the WWE (World Wrestling Entertainment). That should be interesting. “Bad Girl” was a good way to enter the latest album, Welcome to the Dollhouse, but I never expected that it would be a single.

♫ Madonna feat. Kanye West - Beat Goes On (full) - listen
Madonna has really tried to reach a newer, younger audience on her 11th studio album, Hard Candy, which dropped last week and is already #1 in the UK. The album is produced by Pharrell Williams, Timbaland and Danjahandz in it’s entirety. “Beat Goes On,” featuring Kanye West, is the follow-up single to “4 Minutes,” which featured Justin Timberlake. Madonna is doing a lot of things a lot differently these days - just last week she pretty much took over BET’s 106 & Park and actually got a whole lot of love. In any event, I’m loving Hard Candy.

♫ Donnie - Rolling Stone (full) - listen
Bad Boy signee Donnie, who got little-to-no play on the past season of Making the Band 4 is leaking some material. He already has a single out, “Take You There,” which was produced by Se7en, and a few other snippets, including “Dr. Love” and “Spank Me” have leaked as well. “Rolling Stone” sounds like the rest of the music - pretty much something left over from Justin Timberlake’s FutureSex/LoveSounds project that he just recorded for fun. But that whole Euro-pop-synth sound is in right now. So if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it!

MADONNA “CANDY SHOP” IS STRAIGHT FIYAH…KEEPS IT ON REPEAT!

THE WHOLE CD IS FIYAH…MADONNA HARDLY EVER DISAPPOINTS. IF YOU DON’T LIKE HER…SHE USUALLY GETS UP “STANNED UP” DURING HER CONCERTS!!

Danity Kane’s album is hot. Bad Girl is a good song. I think there are better possible singles on the CD, but I think it will do well.

Madonna……i’m over it. Since when do u come by 106 and park? I understand reinvention, but this is just trying to change for whatever the trend is. Sometimes you gotta just stay true to what you are as a musician instead of trying to put JT and Kanye on your songs to fit the mold.

Totally agree with Josiah

Madonna is legend.

Timbaland is getting a good run off of trying to replicate the music that Madonna has done throughout her career… The combination of the two is just silly.

MADONNA HAS DONE R&B BEFORE…106 & PARK WASN’T AROUND WHEN SHE DID “BEDTIME STORIES”…THIS IS NOTHING NEW…SHE JUST INTRODUCING HER MUSIC TO A YOUNGER GENERATION. MADONNA HAS ALWAYS SWITCH GEARS MUSICALLY…NOTHING NEW UNDER THE SUN

Monday, May 5, 2008 /

Madonna is dope and used to stuff like this, and thats why I respect her making this move.

But I can’t stand that Justin Timberlake kid, son. That dude is just pimpin these black chicks into liking his shit and make money off the negro taste. Folks around my part of the block like the kid, but that dude ain’t EVER perform these songs to the communities that embrace them the most. He’ll use the black entertainers for personal gain but when shit get too crazy, he dips. Ask Janet. Thats why you see him get invited to a BET event and he dips and goes to the Billboard Awards and People’s Choice. He was platinum with his group for 7 years and as soon as he saw that he can’t cake off that boy band stuff, he goes to spend that money to do songs with 3-6 Mafia. Word?

Mutada al sader

Monday, May 5, 2008 /

Exactly, Bedtime Stories was chalk full of the hot R&B producers of the day. Babyface, Dallas Austin etc. Plus her 80’s stuff like the song “Holiday” were straight R&B. So get off of the “She’s trying to reach a yonger audience stuff” If anything she heard and saw what Gwen Stefani and Britney did and wanted to be down. And if you’ve had a chance to listen to her album you’d see that It sounds noting like R&B… Its sounds like Timbaland…excuse me Danja.. and Pharell had to many soft synths and not enough inspiration. Although some of the Pharell joints sound OK the one posted here is probably the easiest to digest out of the lot.

Danity Kayne.. um..this Auto -Tuned mostrosity could never be performed live without them lip-syncing.

Donnie- From what I’ve heard the stuff on Youtube is trash.. Thats probably why diddy aint in a rush with him. We dont need another Justin Timberlake..and dont call me a hater because his voice is a cheap version of Justin.. But then Justin is a cheap version of Michael Jackson and Brian Mcnkight.. But then Brian Mcknight has the whole Michael Mcdonald, Kenny Logins, Stevie Wonder thing..so hey

Ne-yo- I’ll let the late great Pimp C speak on that one -> “I ain’t out here dressing up trying to be sexy licking my lips like old gay ass Ne-Yo. Licking lips and shit, nigga. Pussy dick in the booty ass nigga wearing all that gotdamn lip gloss at their video shoots and letting niggas put makeup on their face. Yeah, I said Ne-Yo, you heard what the fuck I said. Niggas putting all that lip gloss on they fuckin’ lips looking like they’ve just been eating a pork chop sandwich with no hands.”

Hard Candy is a hot cd!!! And I agree with a previous poster, Madonna has done music in every genre. That’s why she is so huge, she has done it all. But Brian, actually “Beat Goes On” (which is one of my fav tracks) is not the next single, it’s “Give It 2 Me” (which is great also). The Pharrell songs are the best though.

I really thought “Strip Tease” would be DK’s next single, but oh well, I like “Bad Girl” too.

bedtime stories is the only madonna album i LOVED, maybe its the r&b-ish influece it had, that was when dallas austin was the shit, and a while back i read she didn’t even want the album to sound like that until she heard Joi from lucy pearls first cd, she probably did the same thing with this album after justin and nelly furtado’s albums dropped.

#16. Don’t be blind…she IS trying to reach a younger audience and you clarified it yourself by saying the music sounds like Timbaland/Danja (as it does; TOO MUCH actually). Who are are the young ones going crazy over these days? Exactly.

“Bedtime Stories” was a stab at the popular genre of the time. That’s one thing, because you can put your own spin on a type of music (which she did with fairly good results). Another thing is when you hire Timbaland so you can sound like you worked with Timbaland or Pharrell for that same reason. I’m not really trying to hear that. Some of those tracks are straight bullshit because, well, Madonna isn’t a good singer and good production is not always the answer. The chemistry isn’t there 100% (with Pharrell especially; I agree with you there) and that just proves Madonna jumped on the bandwagon.

Don’t get me wrong: It’s not all bad, but it certainly isn’t all good.

She paid for it though because “4 Minutes” has my vote for *worst single of the year* and by releasing it I was able to say, without a shadow of a doubt, that I wouldn’t be purchasing “Hard Candy”. Bottom line: She could have come much, much harder.

HAHAHAHHAHA @ your Ne-Yo comment. DAMN! :O

38.

BLACKANDMILD

Monday, May 5, 2008 /

You got to be kidding me Ne-Yo? There’s nothing different about this track at all, it just sounds awkward and uninspired. It kills me everytime black artists say they’re tired of “urban music” and want to try something different. This reminds me of how Timbaland claimed he was tired of rap and was inspired by Cold Play. Well that’s all he does not is produce watered down R&B or hip hop infused pop for white artists. These fellas need to just say they want to reach out to a white audience. Stop the fronting, it’s not a good look.

39.

Josh

Monday, May 5, 2008 /

All the songs were cool besides the Ne-yo, not really a fan of his. But his first cd was good though.

I personally like Madonna, I think she’s an incredible artist and performer. As far as her “jumping on the wagon” because she got Timbaland, Pharrell and Danja to do her cd. Thats just like Mary, Mariah, and everybody else getting The Dream to do their first singles for their latest CD’s. Every artist has done it and I don’t blame them…Madonna’s gonna sell CD’s no matter who she gets to do her beats, she is an “INTERNATIONAL SUPERSTAR.”

Now lets see if people say the same thing about Beyonce, because rumor has it she also is getting Timbaland to produce her next CD.

All i’m saying is that Madonna’s new sound can be heard on britneys album, JTs album, this album donnie is about to have, gwen stefanies album, etc

its fine. its just all this futuristic techno music is getting old. Just because the production on an album is good and catchy, it doesn’t mean that the artist gave a great musical performance. Lately, production has been overshadowing the artists. And then you throw Kanye, or JT on it and think its automatically hot. NEGATIVE!

and if beyonce does takes the same route on her next album, I’ll be sorely disappointed and say the same thing about her. Where as Britney or Madonna may need production to make up for what they lack vocally, artists like Beyonce, mary, and many others don’t need to be OVER produced.

I love “Welcome to the Dollhouse”. My favorite album this year. I really don’t care what song becomes a single. I think pretty much every song on that album is single worthy. I WOULD like to hear a ballad/mid tempo for the next single, just to show everyone that they’re not solely pop artist. Day26 are my boys, but DK’s album is a non-skipper. =)

im sorry but im not feeling Madonna at all. I like old school Madonna from “like a virgin” years and stuff. I heard she was acting all boogey on 106 & Park. She ain’t never came there before, it’s funny now she wants to be more urban. Please give me a break. She is a legend but i think im tired of her ass isn’t she about 50. Give that sex sell shit a rest will you.

As for DK..they should have released “Lights Out” and or “Striptease”..i do like Bad Girl but not as a single. I think it’s probably cuz it has Missy on it.

Ne-Yo didn’t even want to listen it all sounds the same

Donnie Klang..Still love Donnie he really does have a nice voice. I just think Bad Boy is going to screw him over. Oh well there is one more season so hopefully they will let him shine, cuz i think he is talented. And he’s a sweety.

Ne-Yo. It took me a few spins to get used to, but yet…Closer took me a few listens to get used to as well. But I am really excited for his album. Im gonna download it LEGALLY people.

Donnie, this song is good. I am feelin it out of the other material i have heard from him. Spank me & that other crap he has been comin out with is some weakass stuff. But this is definitly good. It gives somewhat of a summertime breeze or whatnot. I probally will buy select tracks from his album. Not the whole thing though.

Madonna’s song was okay. It was the best of the four. I didn’t know she had a new album out. I may give Hard Candy a listen…for free. Wasn’t impress wit Kanye’s lyric

73.

TRUTH80

Tuesday, May 6, 2008 /

I liked all but the Neyo song. I really am not feeling his new sound/songs.

Madonna, the album is good but she did jump on the bandwagon. Don’t give me that, “She did it in the past” crap. Yeah and she abandoned it because the image was too harsh and techno sells more overseas then r&b does. BedtimeStories is my favorite Madonna album and BET was around then too, remember VideoSoul. Donnie with the green eyes and that hot light skinned chick where the VJ’s then.. Madonna didn’t do BET then either. The album is still hot and yes this is her attempt to stay relevant in the US because she hasn’t had a hit here in years even though internationally she is selling like crazy. Madonna is and always will be about selling and making money, regardless of the genre of music. If country was in then I wouldn’t doubt she would attempt a duet with Shania Twain.

74.

E=MC2

Tuesday, May 6, 2008 /

I completely agree with 41 Josiah, Madonna’s sound has been done before, shes bringing nothing to the table. She just pays great producers to make her a solid album because she lacks talent; she cannot sing, she cannot dance and she does not write her own lyrics!

I dont understand how people can complain other artists cant sing and theyre crap but fall for buying into Madonna- shes the same. Her career was built on selling sex, and reinventing her image (though i applaud her for that, im sure her PR team came up with the idea not her). I just would never support her because I dont get the hype.

75.

Onemil02

@74

I can see you one of them Mariah fans that hate on Madonna, so typical. If you knew anything you would know she wrote/co-wrote the whole album and has on most of her albums. She is classically trained in ballet and she can dance. So also co-produces too. And her voice is good enough transcend 25+ years. So get your facts straight.
