♫ THE NEW MUSIC REVIEW ♫

♫ Ne-Yo - Jealous (full) - listen
More music from Ne-Yo’s Year of the Gentlemen has leaked. “Jealous” is a mid-tempo track, but is still very much dance-influenced and driven. I guess he really was bored with just doing R&B. Although the music is a little different from what Ne-Yo has done on his past two records, “Jealous” still has those classic Ne-Yo lyrics. There are just some songs that you can tell are Ne-Yo records because of the arrangement and the way the chorus is written.
♫ Danity Kane feat. Missy Elliott - Bad Girl (full) - listen
Danity Kane is releasing the Missy Elliott-featured “Bad Girl” as their second single. And it’s about time too. Bad Boy is infamous for waiting too long in between singles. The girls are set to shoot a video for the Danjahandz-produced track in LA, dueling with the girls from the WWE (World Wrestling Entertainment). That should be interesting. “Bad Girl” was a good way to enter the latest album, Welcome to the Dollhouse, but I never expected that it would be a single.
♫ Madonna feat. Kanye West - Beat Goes On (full) - listen
Madonna has really tried to reach a newer, younger audience on her 11th studio album, Hard Candy, which dropped last week and is already #1 in the UK. The album is produced by Pharrell Williams, Timbaland and Danjahandz in it’s entirety. “Beat Goes On,” featuring Kanye West, is the follow-up single to “4 Minutes,” which featured Justin Timberlake. Madonna is doing a lot of things a lot differently these days - just last week she pretty much took over BET’s 106 & Park and actually got a whole lot of love. In any event, I’m loving Hard Candy.
♫ Donnie - Rolling Stone (full) - listen
Bad Boy signee Donnie, who got little-to-no play on the past season of Making the Band 4 is leaking some material. He already has a single out, “Take You There,” which was produced by Se7en, and a few other snippets, including “Dr. Love” and “Spank Me” have leaked as well. “Rolling Stone” sounds like the rest of the music - pretty much something left over from Justin Timberlake’s FutureSex/LoveSounds project that he just recorded for fun. But that whole Euro-pop-synth sound is in right now. So if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it!

As far as DK…I actually thought that Striptease should have been thier next single but maybe thats just because i like it that much, but i’m not sure if it would get alot of radio play. Bad Girl is okay.

I’m really not a fan of Ne-yo’s singing but I’m so glad that he has decided to create something new and funky. I just might buy this one. Madonna is always hott and her teaming up with kanye just makes her more fabolous.

lol @ all the madonna comments..she did the damn thing no matter who says what..album is fire..eff the presumption shes cashing in blah blah..just effin listen to the album w no sideways ideas..thats how i went in and believe the shock i had when i found myself repeating lyrics and replaying..i honestly havent cared like that for madonna in well over 10 yrs..like yeah shes had good songs after ie hung up etc..but it didnt hit me like this album did..the curiosity of the production by pharrell and timbo is what made me listen..i was thinking it would sound desperate and wack..but the chick still got it..shes a legend..and to me she went back to her roots and did a truly fun dance album..dont think about it just listen and enjoy..so give the woman props..

LMAO @ Mrs. Not Me talkin bout how “you guys are too dam young to know jack sh!t about Madonna!!” It’s true though: so many people, either because they aren’t ready to entertain the idea of actually liking “white folks’ music” (another convo entirely), or because they are so ready to dismiss anything that seems like your typical brian pick (lol) just already hate it before they hear it. I LOVE Hard Candy, personally. That damn Spanish Lesson has been on for every shower I’ve taken for the past week, lol!
That being said, I think DK and Madonna’s single selections could have been a little smarter, IF their goal is to get fans onboard with their recent change in sound. For Danity, “Striptease” would work SO much better because it’s a song that would give them a chance to redeem themselves in the video department (”Damaged”?! LACKLUSTER!!). It’s also a stronger track percussively, and that alone would help it go over well with current fans who aren’t ready to make as much of a departure just yet.
People sleep on it, but “Dance 2nite” would be a surefire hit for Madonna in urban radio and–where it counts–clubs. Mix that shit either right before or after “Flashing Lights,” and you’re good!
