VIDEO: KARINA PASIAN - SIXTEEN AT WAR

Sunday, May 4, 2008

Sixteen year old Def Jam singer Karina Pasian debuted her new video for her song “Sixteen At War” on Saturday. The song was written by The-Dream and produced by Tricky Stewart and is taken from her forthcoming debut album ‘First Love’, which is set to drop on June 3rd.

Some people are calling her the next Alicia Keys, I guess because she can play the piano and what not. And some of you may remember that ‘Who Sang It Better’ post she was featured in a few weeks back.

She can play well, but her voice doesn’t stand out. It’s decent, but it doesn’t blow me away.

Okay…so now I put a face to the song…but I still don’t like the song…I think she’s a cute girl…and she sounds good…but I’d like to hear something different…

wow, i definitely loved lovedthe lyrics! i;m glad they gave her a song that was appropiate for her age. i like her voice and i guess her and tiffany evans will be battling it out…lol since they both are 16 and they both have the bob haircuts, but of course tiffany evans voice is way more unique and amazing than this new girl. tiffany evans had “im grown” this girl has 16 at war”. this new girl karina is on the right trak, because she has great writers behind her. we’ll see what happens as her career blossoms.

how COME THEY CHOOSE THIS SONG AS A SINGLE???im sorry but this song doesnt show any of her skills, its annoying!!karina is probably better than all the young ladies out there, she makes cassie sounds RIDICULOUS AND SHE gives me shiver with SLOW MOTION and with the other song she sang for diddy,SO PLEASE to all my people who work in the music industry learn how to choose the best tracks for all ure new artist.KARINA SHOULD HAVE OFFiCIAL GIRL AS A FIRST SINGLE!!!!!period

I thought this song was by Tiffany Evans when I first heard it on the radio. She sounds a lot like her, but anyway I like the song and it’s message. The vid was okay..

i like her, alicia she is not,but once her voice develops even more she is going to kill because she sings very well for her age….just like tiffany evans, that girls voice is crazy, once they both hit 21 man…..im scared for any other artist who aint bringing it vocally cuz its gonna be a rap.

If she isn’t talking about patting hear weave I guess it’s not a hit.Haters! The song is cute.We already know music today is for teenagers to take it off and shake it and bs like that. But some are making music with a message like this girl and Lil Mama and people shit on them and wonder why shit is the same.Go Karina!

there are teens all over the world going through worse, tbh.
i am glad that she is trying to point out some of the bad things teens are going through, i guess.

i just wish that all of the girls coming out weren’t looking the same.

light skinned … probably mixed … decent voice …. plays piano

i mean, can we have someone who can blow? who is beautiful? who is dark to brown?

i am sick of all these same images …

WELL TIFFANY EVANS IS MA LIL’ COUSIN AND ALL I CAN SAY IS KARINA CAN SING BUT TIFF WILL BLOW HER OUT THE WATER. THE GIRL HAS A GOOD MESSAGE IN THE SONG BUT WITH TIFF BEING ONLY 15 HER VOICE IS AMAZING AND I GUESS ITS REALLY GOIN TO BE ALOT OF COMPETITON THIS SUMMER.

Sunday, May 4, 2008 /

Good song and lyrics with a good message
the video is ok i guess
but unfortunally it wouldnt do good IMO because it isnt a dance song or about lipgloss or anything that has no valuable meaning
The music industry is different nowadays you have to have a catchy song to make it
and its ashame because its talent going to waste
Their ppl like her who can actually sing that wouldnt make it because they dnt want to make a dance song who ”drop it like its hot or shake their butt around” in a video
and thats why music today suck.

21.

@ 16 I totally agree
like i stated in my last post if u dnt want to shake ur butt around and slide down a pole with barely no clothes on or make a song about it and pat ur weave(lmao) it wouldnt be a hit
and that sucks

Sunday, May 4, 2008 /

I like the song and it is great to hear her singing something meaningful. Just because your 16 years old doesn’t mean you don’t have questions about the world. She is not singing about a revolution but at least this song addresses some real life material.

#19- Is there going to be a lot of competition this summer? Don’t think so. Tiffany debuted at #134 on the charts with 4,700 records sold. Probably 3,000 of those were sold to her label. No competition for Karina whatsoever.

25.

Stasia

Sunday, May 4, 2008 /

I saw a lot of comments about people that are not feeling this song, first this is a song that young adults need to hear, instead “Lick the RAPPER.” She is different because her first single is not a dance song or begging for a man. I appreciate this song and I wish more african-americans (I am one) would take the time to stop getting caught up in the bull of the industry and commend a girl who trying to bring some self-esteem back to the community. And she can sing!

if tiffany didnt sell records it was not because she isnt hella talented, its because her single selection….or should i say her labels single selection who i personaly think purposely tried to kill her career knowing alot of people were not gonna be down with that “im grown” track…….tiffany will blow up big one day tho believe that.

30.

Nichole261

Sunday, May 4, 2008 /

I think she has a great voice…and yes I understand the message…but I just don’t care much for the song…nothing to do with the lack of “patting weave lyrics…or booty shaking beat”….

31.

Sunday, May 4, 2008 /

ehhhh…. i think def jam just ruined her career before it started. I love the lyrics to this song but - the song itself, i dont like. i feel like they chose it as a single cause its a tricky/the dream project & right now those two are in high demand. since “umbrella” worked for rhianna…16@war must work for karina. i dont like the marketing plan they chose for her. mediocre song + typical hair cut (looks just like tiffany evans) + piano girl. Sounds like tiffany evans meets a.keys. Karina has better songs they couldve released..sheesed they shouldve released karinas version of official girl. eh, this song doesnt do karina justice and neither does the hair cut. bleh, shes cute though.

I heard this song on 92Q in Baltimore…I thought it was Tiffany Evans. This song be rocking on the radio. She is getting a lot of love in Bmore. I really like this chick…she is fresh and new. I ain’t 16 (im 27) but I’m totally feeling the song. I like her voice.

But let’s just see how many albums she’ll sell. I’m sure ASSIE aka CASSIE will be more hyped up, even though her ass ain’t shit. So, I will buy this girls album when it drops. I hope it will be 7.99 in Target..lol. Good luck, Karina..Bmore loves you

I’m loving the fact that she is producing something that has a message in it and is still marketable to the masses. Because we know if it isn’t some what marketable then the message won’t be heard. She is a new positive voice that can actually sing, so that is what is hot. I hope her star rises just like Alicia’s did!

I like it she can sing though, got to give her that. She knows how the paly the panio too. I was expecting her to sing about being all that n stuff.
But I think that she will have great success though she very talented you can see it when she sings in the quality of her voice.

She seems to have talent and what not but this is not a good single choice. The song has a good message I guess but I don’t see where it would fit in on radio even though I did hear it on the radio once.

Sunday, May 4, 2008 /

I think the song has a positive message unlike all the souljah boy mess that teenagers are listening to now. The girl is telling the truth! Its not easy out here for young girls succumbing to peer pressure. This girl is giving a face to the struggle and encouraging young girls to be strong. She is no A Keys, but I think shes a positive role model. I like the song too , it has an anthem vibe to it.

Cosign #20. Females under the age of 17 really don’t do well these days because they can’t give that sex appeal that is needed to sell records ….its sad but true. The 90’s was a different story because artists like Brandy, Monica, Mya, and Aaliyah made music everyone could listen to regardless of their age and the industry wasn’t as focused on looks back then. If Tiffany Evans only sold 4,000 records its only a matter of time before they drop her…no matter how much talent she has. The music industry is so messed up.

48.

I personally think this was wonderful. I am really happy to see new young talented artist do their thing and bring real music back. I think she will do fine and so will Tiffany Evans. They seem like lovely young women getting ready to make their name in the Music Biz. So let’s just support them and not compare them as we should encourage all young people to make positive moves in this world.

I heard of this song on the radio and I thought it was a great song. And the kids need something real to listen to that is on their level instead of, Pop lock and drop it and this other B.S. that’s out.

She has a great voice. I was wondering who it was, I thought it was Tiffany Evans.

ya must be crazy if ya don’t like this track. This chick is gon’ blow…trust me. S**t I’m a 25 yr old dude, and this track crosses sexes despite the female aspect (POV) of the song. It’s just about struggle & transformation @ that age of growing up. And it has that corner , hood, and ghetto feel I could relate to…cuz i see the fight of our upcoming youth everyday. Good message and reminds me of Alicia coming out with “Fallin” not shaking her ass with her debut. The King has spoken!!

i used to hate this song because my roommate plays it all loud in the morning when i’m sleep…not to mention shes 16 in college and immature as hell!(basically like those girls in the video she called “cool/fools”. Every time she played it i was like ughhh shut up!!! cuz all i heard was “16…. im 16….16″

but now that im actually listening to it, without it sounding muffled through the walls, i love the message..

You guys are really ridiculous and have no idea what you are talking about. This song is nicely produced and is very age appropriate. The lyrics are meaningful and I think the chorus is very catchy. Unfortunately this song only shows little of Karina’s vocal talent. On you tube karina sings Mariah Carey, Vision of love and she sings the best rendition I have ever heard. Karina cans sing better than Alicia Keys. Alicia Keys cannot sing no Whitney and Mariah songs. Karina however is best when she does Whitney and Mariah songs. her voice is incredible and I think she could take on Tiffany evans vocally. Yall are just judging by this song so yall dont know her vocal ability. oh yea and she is a trained opera singer.

58.

niiiiiice!! she really brought her A game video wise and vocally. we need more artists like this and less of the CASSIE’S.

also, the funny thing about this song is that altho its geared toward 16 year olds, im 20 and could relate, so KUDOS. i can see why ppl would compare her to alicia key…theyre both beautiful and extremely talented! i hope she amounts to alicia’s status…

it feels gimmicky not heartfelt
are only lightskinned or biracial women allowed careers these days? i guess mary, gladys, aretha, patti are just old school, huh?
you can’t be alicia keys if you don’t write your own shit
yes, alot of black young women can relate to the lyrics, but 1. i don’t think it’s that great a song 2. as a teen, is that really all you’re thinking about is how wack the world is? 3. can’t we see another image of something else…some of the time except the same old hood shit?

@ 60,

Cool cool did as you suggested. She sounds real good acapella, dug the Musiq song she did. Well can I rephrase my first comment. On this particular song posted ^^^by Concrete her voice don’t stand out, I took time to listen to the lyrics and like those, the song from a musicial standpoint is okay doesnt blow me away nor her voice on this song, BUT she can definitely sing/sang.

Thank you Karina! I’m so glad to see a Dominican Sista getting burn, Kat De Luna too! And both girls can BLOW!!!! I don’t think she copied anybody’s haircut. I think she looks pretty and age appropriate and I love the song and relate to it. Mind you I’m 23 lol!

But I love how every jumps on the Rihanna’s and Cassie’s of the world and act like they are the end all, be all.(And it was Posh spice and Kelis who started the hair cutting craze…NOT Rihanna!)

The only other young girls out that have any sort of talent next to these Model looking/No talent having sexpots is Jordin Sparks, Tiffany Evans and JoJo. I’ll even give the girl group Cherish props (Those are REAL singers people!!!!)

But people just go for the generic, pop, and mindless.

Music is dead!

I agree with others on here her you tube video shows off her voice more. I loved this song and even though I’m no where near 16 anymore I still felt the message. I like the lyrics of this song. And why do people always compare her voice sounds nothing like alicia keys, just cause she plays the piano. Give the girl a chance.

72.

Latina Star

Sunday, May 4, 2008 /

Go girl. Latinas takin over. Karina is Dominican and can sing better than Alicia Keys. Trust me. And she sang at the White House during Black Music Month. Black girls aren’t the only ones who can sing R&B. It’s our time now. Also, since she’s Latina, she will command a bigger base because Latins are proud people. We support our own. Comprende.

You know it’s funny…I don’t care much for the song…just because I can’t really get into it…I’m not a young girl…but I remember being that age and although I didn’t go through those things when I was 16…I can empathize with those who do…however, some of you can come down off your high horses…acting as if we don’t like the song because it doesn’t have a booty shaking beat is rediculous…I’m too old for all that mess from Soulja boy and pop lock and drop it…etc…so really it just comes down to preference…you either like the song or you don’t…

the girl gets comparisons to alicia keyes because she looks up to her and that is her role model. they have a video on youtube of her going backstage and meeting her.

both of them:

play the piano, are light skinned, from nyc, same vibe of music- there is a message. its a compliment brian to be compared to her and of course karina doesnt mind so stop acting like its a bad thing.

as far as her voice. she still needs lessons but shes not that bad. there are worse AKA RIHANNA.
