LeLee looked great! That Cici and CB ‘Take You Down’ performance was on some ‘Promise’ type stuff, lol. Whoo, Maxwell!!! Fergie did well. John Legend, please. I’m just glad he introduced because I wasn’t quite ready to go to sleep. Diddy is promoting the hell out of Ciroc…I can’t even lie, I got some here at the house and it’s smooth as hell. Usher performance was so whack yo.They gave him the opening number and i was dissapointed.I have been waiting all year for this award show and this is what they bring.Usher could have came harder.The buz that beyonce and lil wayne was suppose to be joining him did him no good. i really think he needed them to make his show better.And he lip snced the entire song.i was so mad yo.and then he tried to hit a note towards the end and fails lol.Whats goin on usher.Chris brown stills the show.He cleaned it up yo.One of the best perfromances all night.Usher needs to take notes.So know i can respect chris brown when he says he is the prince of r and b cuz he is.He runs circles around usher and he gives u a show.Usher has los it yo.Nice to see ciara on the scene she killed it as always.And alicia keys was so amazing bringin back all the old girl groups.i kept saying bring out more but she only did 3 lol.Alicia sung her but off and looked amazing and i was surprised to see her not sittin behind that piano so good look on that alicia.The host dl hugley is not funny yo.BET u should have kept mo nique on there.Monique has been the best host since u guys started doin that so next awards let her host it please.DL HUGLEY IS FORCED LAUGHTER AND NOBODY WANTS THAT YO.

Keys performance was the Best all night. The id to bring back the girl groups from the 90’s was great. I really missed the DIVAs this year .. where was Mary, Janet, Mariah, Beyonce’ ? the only true diva that was there was Alicia..
Al green great performance.. Maxwell needs his hair , Anthony Hamilton great haircut . Ciara and chris did there thing best dance performance. Neyo always good .. Ursher i dont know what to say i expected more but it was good. Ms cole started off shacky but pulled it together at the end .. Kim actually looked better then she has in a long time. All in all a good show BET good Job

Oh and Neyo did really good. Liked the cool and calm demeanor. Very grown mannish….take note ursher:) Now that your 45, you need to just sing and two step. Thats it.

On a scale of 1 to 10 I would give this BET Awards show an 8.5. I liked most of the performances. I also see that I wasn’t the only one hoping for that Love In the Club Part 2 with Beyonce and Lil’ Wayne. Guess Bee was too busy making her movie! Usher’s performance did leave a lot to be desired…Alicia shoulda opened the damn show! Ne-Yo was better than expected…Keyshia- love u girl, but get some damn voice lessons….Chris Brown and Ciara were hot…Rihanna- flawless as always even though the performance was kinda boring….Al Green- please pay attention kids, because this is what you need to be trying to become!….Lil Wayne- it was ok, nothing earth shattering, still a fan though…Jeezy/Kanye…just okay….and if I forgot to mention something it wasn’t memorable or worth mentioning.

I normally don’t like Alicia Keys, but she had the best performance last night. When SWV, TLC, and Envogue came out I couldn’t stop screaming.

Other than that the show was boring as usual, although Maxwell gave me a good laugh. Oh and Ciara might not be the greatest singer, but when she was dancing with CB she killed it get low CiCi. lol

Rihanna- She did great! Her vocals has really improved.

Rihanna was hella boring to me! She really was! I would’ve been hella pissed if I paid all that money to see her @ the Glow In The Dark tour. It was cute that Chris was singing along though.

T-Pain’s was entertaining but I still don’t think he has talent @ all. He did a poor job lip syncing to the music. The highlight of his performance had to be Ludacris. Lol @ Rick Ross’ high voice.

A. Keys killed it as usual. I’m glad that she brought out SWV, EnVogue and TLC cuz I was getting tired of Teenage Love Affair. She had one of the best performances of the night to me.

Keyshia Cole sang my jam Heaven Sent. Where was Missy? Lil Kim looked horrible but she was a good performer. Keyshia needs to realize though that a high note @ the end of every performance is not the best way to get off stage.

Usher was suprisingly wack! He was a let down. Idk what’s going on w/ him. I’ve seen him on tour pre-Tameka and he’s a great performer. Idk.

I like the slight remix of With You that Chris performed and Ciara killed it!!!!!!!! She was the highlight of his performance. Sad but true.

Nelly, Nelly, Nelly. I always try and rep for my hometown homie but he could’ve honeslty kept that performance. Weak shit!

Anthony Hamilton, Jill Scott and Maxwell were great and Al Green shut the house down! I love me some Al Green. I’m such an old head.

I loved when Wayne did A Mille cuz the crowd went crazy!

Ne-Yo had one of the best performances of the night. I can see why R. Kelly kicked him off of the tour lol. Have you heard his A Mille rap? Suprisingly, he can flow. The Jabbawockies were a nice touch too.

Marvin Sapp sent chills down my spine. Never Would Have Made It is one of my anthems. I’m also glad that he won. There’s more gospel artists out besides Kirk Franklin, Yolanda Adams, Donnie McClurklin and Mary Mary.

Over all most of the performances left much to be expected. I haven’t seen the whole show because I had to work but I know it will be on @ least 18 more times

What happened to my Usher? That performance was ssssssssssssoooooooooo SAD!!! I mean, any performance after his was should have been the opening act…Ne-Yo out danced him and Ne-Yo’s not dancer, Chris out sang him- and I’m sure you get my point. Love in the Club was just like the video and every other performance I’ve seen him do w/ that song! No creativity, no originality, no theatrics, nothing is was a sad mess…Luckily for BET they had Alicia, Chris, Wayne…and Keyshia to save the day. Usher just didn’t live up to his standards, is Tameka going to be the death him/his career?

On another note: there’s no pt in hating on Rihanna’s performance, she NEVER performs, standing up like a dominatrix and singing off-key is all she ever does! Just seeing her walk AND sing would make a great performance for her. You know, I honestly think a number of Rihanna’s songs are creative, which is the sad part she can’t bring them to life herself, you can tell she’s a totally produced artist…Give her music to Britney, Ashanti, etc, and watch do even better…Rihanna has no signature and no stage presence.

Well here’s my breakdown of the 2008 BET Awards

1. Usher Performance= straight wackness…..I’m sorry but something just seems real played out about Usher lately almost like his time is up for being the King of R&B that performance had a whole bunch of mess ups and things were used to seeing him do plus I think so many people were anticipating my girl Beyonce to come out so when she nor Weezy came out to do Love in Dis Club Part 2 it waz like oh…..thats it? For an opening act, the audience wasnt even standing up or getting into it like last year when J.Hud and Jenn.Holiday performed for the opening act, people were out of their seats in awe, this time it just seemed like nobody cared.

2. Jeezy/Kanye Performance= well when Jeezy came out in the beginning it was sort of like okay why did he not perform with Usher in his set for Love in dis Club but I guess he wanted to do his own thing and to tell you the truth things really didnt get poppin till Kanye came out and also I was expecting Kanye to have his own set, like he would perform flashing lights or something but I guess it didn’t happen. This performance was okay….

3. Neyo Performance= now this was a bit of a surprise but Neyo got things poppin, I think that had to be the best performance from Neyo I’ve seen ever he was really good, really entertaining and put on a FULL performance even though he’s not the best dancer, he played it off well and then had the Jabowakees come out at the end was hot, people were suprised about how good he did This performance was one of the best of the night

4. Keyshia Cole Performance= now what the hell was Keyshia sippin on before she went out on stage because she acted like that drunk cousin at every family barbecue who was lik “hey yall check me out!” that was funny as hell and Keyshia’s my girl but she was acting a fool then Kim came out…….yeah basically This performance was a hot mess I think it needed Missy and Keyshia to be less tipsy!

5. Alicia Keys & The Girl Groups Performance= mow my girl Alicia had a very good concept behind her performance and it was absolutely a positive message behind it….as far as the singing goes they were all a little off…Alicia sounded a bit nasally while T-BOz was just too low and the other groups were low also and at times off key but overall This performance was good and one of the best of the night.

6. T-Pain & Them Performance= this performance was good not really because of T-Pain but because of all the people he brought out lik Luda, Rick Ross etc. Some of them were lip synching their parts but it was alright plus T-pain’s set was really wacky and crazy and proved to be really entertaining. This performance was good and also one of the best of the night.

7. Chris Brown & Ciara Performance= okay this is not the sex show and I don’t know who’s idea it was for this collabo to happen but if it was Chris’ I mean damn….if he was gonna bring someone out you think it would be Rihanna but her ass was sitting in the audience looking all cheesy overall Chris didn’t really get it poppin till Ciara came out anyway so it was kind of lackluster before that and kind of forgettable but the part with Ciara will have people talking. This performance was good just for the simple fact my girl Ci Ci came out and had the dance off thing with Chris.

8. Al Green Tribute= Jill Scott was a little stiff like she was nervous or something but she was okay. Anthony Hamilton sounded really good too. But Maxwell killed it. I know everyone wishes he would come back to the game. And as for Al Green, that dude is a straight g and legend. He actually went up and performed his songs unlike Diana Ross last year. This tribute was really good and definitely the highlight of the night.

9. Rihanna Performance= this was really boring and felt like it was missing something. The audience wasn’t really feeling it mainly because of what she went after I mean if you going to go after a spectacular performance like Al Green and them you need to bring some high energy and fire but I guess because Take a Bow is kind of slow it was dry and Chris looked like the only one into it But Rihanna looked nice though…….yeah this performance was forgettable

10. Nelly Performance= first of all JD needed to sit his old ass down somewhere like fo real,
like nobody wants to hear him rap and what was wrong with Ci Ci’s mic, like it needed to be turned up or something but my baby daddy Nelly woooh lord have mercy that man is too fine!!!!!!! just give me one chance to have his baby and it will be done the shirt off did it for me because that was all I was focused on this performance was good just because of that fact

Lil Weezy Perfomance= last but not least my other baby daddy Lil Wayne shut it down and closed out the show proper even though I think he should have opened the show instead of Usher but whatever Weezy still did his thing with T-pain but I’m really hoping he T-pain don’t take this friendship thing too far because the two of them together will start too get annoying but other than that Weezy had everyone hyped. This performance was one of the best of the night.

So overall the awards were OKAY this year. I do think Last year was better but this year’s wasn’t a total disapointment. I do think the show could have been produced a lot better but overall it was 50/50. Do you guys agree?

Last night just proved it that Keyshia Cole could not sing live. She sounded so horrible at a point where i needed to change the channel. Overall, the show could have been better if they chose a host who could speak English very well and have Ashanti perform.

The show just proved it that Keyshia Cole could not sing live. Overall, the show could have been better if whatever that dude name didn’t host it. The ratings could have went up if Jada and Will hosted the show and have Ashanti perform her strongest hit “The Way That I Love You”.

Like someone else said….Where was the main divas? Mariah, Mary J., Beyonce, and Janet. None of them bother to show up. This show lacked star power.

Alicia Keys was the ish! Ciara and Chris Brown were hot but could have been hotter! I’m a Rihanna fan but her performance was not up there with the hottest acts, she sounded good vocally but her stage presence was lacking. I need to peep neyo’s performance after all the good reviews that I read.

Ok, Usher was beyond boring. I dont care what anybody says Beyonces ass was missed this year. The only part I liked was the few seconds Ciara turned it out. That lil girl was sexy as hell. She had a Janet Jackson moment. I stopped watching after Al and by the looks of it I didnt miss a thing.

OMG!!! I almost forgot to mention that Keyshia Coles performance was the most horrid thing I have ever had to witness. My husband actually walked out the damn room.

Ok I already had extremely low expections for the awards.. but after watching I thought it was an ok show.

1) I love me some Alicia Keys but the truth is: she HAD bring those groups out, because she was sounding a hot ass mess singing Teenage Love Affair in the beginning! And you are a liar if you tell me she didnt. It was nasally and irritating.. I was happy when she finally shut up and let the other girls sing.

2) Chris Brown & Ciara were hot. They did their lil dancing thing. Ciara can move. Janet, you scared? lmaooo

3) Usher was ok. Give him a break. I was disappointed about the lip syncing tho. Felt like he was trying to prove he can still dance. And hes beyond that at this point in his career

4) Neyo was good. Better than I expected. I was hyped when the Jabbawockeez came out.

5) Keyshia wasnt terrible. She just wasnt her best but I’m still rooting for her.

6) Rihanna… in your own words.. “please, just cut it out.” The sad part is, you can tell how HARD she was trying to sing that simple song.. just to sound that bad. SMH.

7) Marvin Sapp’s performance was beautiful. Lovedddd it. Especially the montage in the background.

Al Green had me on my feet. They picked perfect the people for his tribute. Very well done.

9) Wayne & T-Pain are surprisingly good performers.

Dag! WHY ARE ALL THE PICS MOVING SO FAST?? Concrete Loop can you cut that the hell out?

1. I’m mad that hardly any celebs who won haven’t showed up. WTH? I thought the
BET awards were the it show for our people, what the heck happened?

2. Usher was terrible big time. The conveyor belt number was alright, but his lip
synching was a mess. He shouldn’t have opened the awards at all. He’s slipping.

3. I thought Alicia’s girl group concept was good in regards to SWV, En Vogue,
and TLC performing. T-boz didn’t sound good though and SWV was off as well.
They cracked me up coming down those steps! Loved En Vogue, nuff said.

4. Chris’s performance wasn’t good until Ciara came out. The images in the water
were off the chain though.

5. Jeezy and Kanye were ok, nothing to talk about.

6. Keyshia sucked big time. Sorry but Lil Kim didn’t help much either. They were
yelling at one point. Keyshia is tone deaf or something because she sounds
horrible live. She sounded better when she sang “love” a few years back and
even that performance was dreadful and boring. Neffe and Frankie are HOOD as
all get out. Now that’s cool, but damn not at the awards show. Neffe’s ta-tas were
spilling out, and Frankie’s ghetto azz dropped it like was hot during the red carpet,
no no mama Frankie.

7. Marvin Sapp brought the house down!!!!!!!!! He is a true artist for real and I’m glad
he won. D. L. Hugley no he wrong for calling him Warren Sapp.

8. Ne-Yo was actually good, he stepped it up. I love the Jabbawokeez at the end.

9. I’m T-pain’ d out. I get tired of hearing Flo Rida and “low”, it’s time for a new single
boo. I loved Luda’s verse though.

10. Al green tore it up. Lol at him thanking the BET Academy. Liked Jill Scott and
Anthony Hamilton. Love, Love MAXWELL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

11. Nelly’s performance was sub-par. Ciara’s mic was jacked up, and JD need to sit
down somewhere. Fergie was ok i suppose.

12. Rihanna was ok, NOT GREAT by any means. I agree with many who said she is
more the MTV crowd than BET, that’s true for sure. Yeah she look great, but I
wouldn’t pay to see her live ever.

13. Lil Wayne was just ok, not hating on his success but his performance was not
that hyped. LOL that he thanked GOD in his speech, but when he performed he
was bleeped every other word

One more thing, BET needs to FIRE their audio tech or whoever is over sound audio because every single year they have audio issues. Debra Lee needs to quit having these sorry side commentators (Baldwin Hills cast, Frankie and Neffe, etc) on the show. They make it even more lame. You don’t see such buffoonery on the Oscars.

D. L. Hugley was NOT, I repeat NOT a good host. BET better not ever have his non laughing behind host ever again. It was to forced, and he was just CORNY. Note to BET, BRING back MO’ NIQUE ASAP, she’s your best host.

Overall, the awards were a LET DOWN. With the exception of a few good performances, this years show wasn’t hot at all.

Ciara really screwed up Chris Brown’s performance, but i did not give a fuck what she was doing anyway because’s not on nobody’s level. She was degrading herself last night, lastly, she’s gonna be like Teairra Marri who got fired from her lebel because she didn’t got talent in music industry.

Al Greene brought the house down. Maxwell- M A X W E L L- PLEASE RELEASE something new. His performance was wonderful and totally unexpected. Jill Scott and Alicia were beautiful. Rihanna - (yawn, then yawn again) was beautiful, but rather boring. Ciara know she can dance her butt all the way off. Keyshia seemed to have had an off night. SWV and TLC voices were lacking, but good to see them after all this time…Envogue was great.

Rihanna was one of the few who sing live some lip sync some use backing tracks and still sound like shyt (keyshia cole) At least Rihanna sings live

I’m a big fan of keyshia cole and I was disappointed with her performance.Her voice was weak and it seem like she was running out of breath.Usher had on a Mic…hangin from his ear.DUUUUUUUH I liked Ushers performance.Alicia Keys was my favorite I was screamign literrally when I seen all my favorite girl groups up there.Especially …SWV and TLC.and Envogue topped it off before TLC.

Keyshia looked GORGEOUS but the vocals wasn’t doing it

I didn’t even watch the show because I had to work.
But after reading the comments, looks like I haven’t missed much.
The only BET awards I ever liked was the one when Beyonce performed De Ja Vu for the first time…I think that was back in 05
But the awards show reflects the whole network, I’ve been tired of BET because BET has become tired.

I knew the show was going to be a disappointment since Beyonce, and Ashanti didn’t perform cuz these two are the true performance with skills to this type of shows unlike Keyshia Cole or whatever that girl name is oh year Ciara who just embarrassing themselves by screaming for no reason and doing do nasty dance.

Overall I think it was a great show!!!

Not as good as last year of course, when Beyonce the #1 chick in the game performed, but still good overall.

Blaow, I agree with you that Wayne is overrated, but it’s not just females that sing his praises: a lot of dudes think he’s hot as well. Trust me, he didn’t go platinum with just chicks buying that CD. A lot of rappers are “nicer” than Wayne: Fab, Luda, Jada, Nas, Jay (of course), 3000 - and that’s without even really trying to think of people.

I like KC but, her performance was terrible. The only good part about her performance was, when the guy came out and took her dress off. She sounded horrible, and don’t get me started on Lil Shem.. To me the baddest rappers alive were TuPAC and Biggie. These two ruled during the 90’s and their rap is still hot today. When these two were around, no other rappers were getting heavy airplay like them. Jayz, Redman, JaRule, 50, etc. were really irrelevant. Only Nas can measure up to what Tupac and Biggie were.

Absolutely LOVED Chris and Ciara’s performance!!so sexy. Loved the A. Keys too. I would never have recognised the gurls from SWV tho

Anybody who says something negative about Alicia’s performance is just a hater… The woman sang so beautifully…octave after octave…so gracefully and mannnn was she moving!! It was PERFECT and what might have seemed unpolished about the performance was really Alicia’s being smart enough to be conscious of the song’s retaining their original sound…this was for the groups she’d invited…if you noticed, when Alicia began the intro by singing the first verse of “I get so weak” it was obviously understated…that was so that SWV could shine NOT because they needed to rehearse more…It was PERFECT.

Keyshia’s performance sucked but did anybody see John Legend’s girl laughing at them? The camera was on her as she whispered into John’s ear and he seem to peer (look harder) at something and they laughed…maybe it wasn’t negative but I saw the performance and I really don’t see it being good…

Ciara’s dance with Chris was raunchy…she looked like she was going to bite his head off after their little simulated mating… LAME and GHETTO.

The show had some very entertaining highlights, Neyo was very polished and smooth, Chris and CiCi were sizzling, Alicia was good with all the girl groups, Keyshia did her thing and the tribute to Al Green was great. Luv Maxwell, miss the crazy hair but I enjoyed seeing him perform, almost wished he had broke out with one of his songs. But Mr. Al Green was just amazing, no props, no back up dancers, just came out there and turned it out had everyone dancing and singing there and the people at home as well. That old school music, you can’t beat it!!

Chris Brown- Talented and all but better than Usher? That’’s a stretch…For me his performance with Ciara was one of the highlights & even better than Usher’s but that’s because Ciara saved him during Take you down… Im so over ‘With you’

Nelly- Boring, other than looking at eye candy (Nelly) & waiting for Ciara’s part I felt no reason to watch…But then that’s probably because I dnt really like either of his singles

Lil Wayne- He got the crowd hype so that was a good look, performing ‘A Millie’ was a good way to end the show

T-Pain got on my f**n nerves, RIck Ross the belly was too much-had a Fatman scoop moment, but Nelly did good, chris brown and ciara left you wantin’ more, Rihanna’ s voice was on point but I expected more, this was Ne-yo’s best performance and it wasn’t all that but he had a flawless one, Al green and his guests(LOVING MAXWELL!!!) was the best of the show. Alicia’s performance left you wanting more, En Vogue outshone everybody, they needed x-scape to set it off too!! swv and tlc looked a hot mess outfit wise, but chili was flawlesss, Wayne gave a great performance, and so did Marvin Sapp!! i don’t usually like bet awards, but this was a good one!!!

Once the Envogue,Swv,TLC segment ended I that made the other three hours bearable. I thought Ms.Cole was hot though I didnt care for her at first she has grown on me . Al Green and marvin Sapp was great but and Ive been saying this it seems like forever its time to step up the production values of these shows .

BET awards sucked as expected. I kept wanting someone to save the show, but honestly everyone’s performance was mediocre & lack luster. I was willing to give the newbies a pass, but even then you need to step your game up. I am no longer watching BET anyways. It’s getting to the point where I can’t buy what they’re selling. The awards were pretty good to me. I thought Al Green was very good. I love all of his hits. The Alicia Keys concept was good. It was well planned but poorly executed. The only one act that sounded good was EnVogue. Alicia didn’t sound that great either. I wonder what gimmick she will come up with next to overcompensate for the fact that she is not an entertainer. Last time it was the Jamaican concept. She’s trying though.

Usher (I still love him no matter what) was a little off but I think he’ll bounce back and get it together. I love how people write someone who has always been a great performer off as below a Neyo or Chris Brown. Their performances may have been better last night. But come on Usher knows how to perform, he’s just a little rusty that’s it.

The problem with Usher was that he just did not do anything we haven’t seen before!I think had he performed the remix it may have had more of an impact and not have been so perdictable.

Thanx to select performances the show was just AIIIGHT! I think BET HYPED it up way too much for what ut was worth. MY GOD how about the very first performance of the night by USHER. I was highly disappointed! Id rather see a Chris Brown performance as the opening (that was HOT), I could watch him & CIARA show their skills together longer than they did! USHER has opened shows prior to this album waaaay better than that, in the past. I was waiting for something to jump off in the end, but that was just very disturbing coming from USHER. His “CONFESSIONS” album I think will be his BEST album EVER!! I enjoyed T-PAIN (& the whole ring master Circus bit), I enjoyed Alicia Keys (& her doing the whole reunion of the female groups—what yall young bucks knew about that?) THAT WAS HOT! In fact Alicia Keys revived the show with her performance & special guests because I was about to fall asleep before she came out…That show was FLAT LINED. I enjoyed the Quincy Jones Tribute, & the Al Green tribute too (I enjoyed seeing MAXWELL—where did they dig him up from?—LOL That was cool (those 2 cats knew what music was all about—for real). KEYSHIA COLE’s performance was cool (I like the wardrobe change she did that was “cute”) But what did it for me was when LIL KIM came out, maybe because I am from KIM’s home town I dont know but whenever she does live performances on her collaborations I get HYPED UP when she comes out, with her deep voice rapping LOL!! The NELLY performance I actually liked as well.

It was just AAIIIGHT. Last years show was waaaay better hands down. How you going to open up with USHER & that whack assed performance though? That was crazy. And they did experience some technical difficulties, reminded me of when BET was new back in the day…BOOT–LEG!! What was up with that??? They could have done better with this show for all the HYPE they dished out for it!

Overall, the show was kinda wack compared to previous shows… Alicia keys and the Al Green tribute were the best hands down!

Overall,IMO, this was NOT a good year for the BET awards, past years have been better.

* Alicia Keys KILLED it, thank you for bringing back 90’s R AND B, the three best groups from that entire decade, I LOVED IT!!!!!!!!!!! Although I was thinking to myself Damn I’m old because I know every song word for word!

*Chris Brown KILLED it, and Ciara……….damn, damn, damn, that girl is sexy, and I like men (DON”T get it twisted!) but that was a very hot performance.

* Young Jeezy and Kanye (My future husband) were aiight, but i have heard them both sound better especially Kanye whom i have seen live 3 times, but I still LOVE YOU!!!!!!

* Marvin Sapp performance was so touching and made me think about going back to church.

Or are you just overrated? Because your performace was average on so many levels, u were better on the Source Awards.

* The Jabbawockeez saved Ne-yo’s ass, because I was basically falling asleep until they came on. He is just so repetitive…….same fake-ass wannabe MJ/CB/Usher moves, same stupid fedora, it’s getting old dog, and I loved your first album, so you need to switch it up, for real.

Bitch their performance was the HIGHLIGHT OF THE SHOW!!! Dont get mad cause yo fat ass couldnt IN NOW SHAPE OR FORM do wat The Princess did!!! She was COMPLETELY CLASSY with it!!!! D.L. Hugley as host…was awful and thats all to be said about that. BET made a bad choice with him. Also, the presenters scripted small talk, especially Gabrielle Union and that tongue-tied Derek Luke, was so ridiculous.

USHER!!! I almost forgot, sadly, to mention that this awards show capitalized on the fact that Usher’s creative growth is at a standstill. This is about more than the fact that his performance looked and felt(detached) like a music video….more than his lip-syncing every word….more than him wearing an over-the-head microphone?….more than the photo-montage that preceeded his entry. This about the fact that nothing has evolved about Usher as he is doing exactly what the newcomers are doing; what he has been doing for years, but he is no longer any better at doing it and we want to see more. Furthermore, “Here I Stand” feels like a relaunched version “Confessions”, only less compelling. First singles are about a night at the club, with two adjacent videos shot on the dancefloor of a club. Ultimately, following his performance, there were alot of blank stares; people wondering if they had just watched a music video anthology-medley of Usher in 3-D. There was so much going on, Usher might have well been mute for our sake. Compare the performances, Ne-Yo made his way into the audience and really connected in the midst of swirling around the stage. There wasn’t one unrehearsed step by Usher that we haven’t already seen 1 million times during his show opener.

Alicia Keys’ ode to the sista-girl groups of yesteryear worked so well….even though Coko did a little too much (in addition to looking a mess) T-Boz and Chili seemed to have lost their voices??? En Vogue showed all the girl groups up. Alicia looked like a modern day Cleopatra with her bonestraight wig. Her vocal performance and energy was excellent and helped to tie for the best performance for the night.

Keyshia Cole sounded like a newly-signed act who was performing live for the first time…nervous. She even was caught completely off guard when the songs switched from Heaven Sent to Let It Go…lol she was so busy dancing (trying) that she missed her cue to start singing and her backgorund vocals kept on without her Lol. The outfits were nice and thank God there was no wardrobe malfunction. Lil’ Kim was out of breath instantly, looked like a Las Vegas drag queen.

Ne-Yo put on a tour-de-force, mixing an interesting blend of Cab Calloway, Michael Jackson (Smooth Criminal) to crank out some of the slickest moves on the stage the entire evening. Definitely one of the high points of the show. His clean, 3-piece, fedora donned look of late seems to be a mainstay for the moment and suits him just fine.

Chris Brown appeared on stage, a la special guest, Ciara, for a sensual take on Chris Breezy’s “Take You Down”. Chris really sang the song on top of the fact that he was actually singing the entire time…he gave an honest LIVE performance especially on “With You”. Hold up…now wouldn’t we have loved to see Chris and his chautese, Rihanna, take stage together in place of Ciara??? The camera caught a few great shots of Ms. Umbrella herself doefully grinning at the Chris’ performance. Anyways the mowhawk and the bowtie was cute, even though both of the trends are nearing the end of being relevant. Lol.. It was a good look though.

The highlight of the night would have to be the ensemble, All-Star tribute to Al Green…opened by Jill Scott, who just happened to be sporting new Mo-Locks (mohawk dreadlocks)and some fierce wedged-stilletos. Anthony Hamilton turned up looking unusally dapper and clean, particularly in the facial area. THE SURPRISE OF THE NIGHT WAS when Maxwell strutted on the stage to wrap up the trio of tributes…with a low cut and 1985 ish transition-lense frames. What a surprise. And the cameo was pleasant…near the end he even pulled out a few steps that were coordinated with the band. But no moment matched the pure energy and unity that swept the audience like that of Al Green’s medley. The entire audience was swaying and crooning, to include a sleeveless Busta Rhymes caught playing an imaginary trombone. This was the performance of the night.

Lil’ Wayne put on a respectable performance, but curiously with T-Pain??? Back to Wayne, he did the best thing he could have done, he spit…alone (no dancers or hype-man) he showed his collage of tattoos and let his hair down.

-Chris & Ciara had the best performance of the night HANDS DOWN…IT WAS HOTT!
-Alicia had one the best performances of the night too…I was hyped when I saw SWV
-Marvin Sapp almost made me cry….the was one of the best too
-Al Green tore it up!
-Maxwell….whew…i almost went crazy when he came on stage. Where you been??
-Keyshia was horrible. This is my girl but WTF was that
-Usher was on the same level as Keyshia…it was a mess…his new name is “Thighs N Hips” cause he thats all I could see when he performed. It was a huge disapointment! Just give up Usher…plz…

Overall I loved the BET Awards.I really didn’t care for the host, but most of the performances made up for him. My favorite part of the show was the Maxwell portion of the Al Green tribute. I had to go and listen to his Urban Hang Suite, Embrya and MTV Unplugged cds.I loooove me some Maxwell! I also enjoyed the Alicia Keys, SWV, EnVogue and TLC performance.Chris Brown and Ciara KNOW they did that! Ne-Yo’s performance was really good too.How DL Hugley gonna call Marvin Sapp “Warren”? I was embarassed for him.I really enjoyed the entire show and I haven’t been able to say that in a few years.

Alicia Keys acceptance speech was exceptional as well. She is such a talented,beautiful,wise and respectable young lady!

the BET awards were not hot this year. it was definitely the worst year ever. every performance was slow and boring. with the performers that were on the show, it should have been amazing. usher’s dancing was not what was expected, keyshia cole sang like crap, everybody just looked like they were half asleep.
