I actually thought it was great. They kept the foolishness to a minimum (aside from T-Pain performing twice) and I LOVED Alicia’s performance because she reunited my FAVORITE girl groups!! Al Green was off the hook. I think he turned all those celebrities into regular fans and that was really a cool moment. I guess I liked it because I’m not too much of a hip-hop fan.

THE BEST PART OF THE SHOW WAS ALICA KEYS AND HER TRIBUTE TO THE GIRL GROUPS OF THE NINETY’S AND THE AL GREEN TRIBUTE-LOVED JILL&ANTHONY-BUT THE ULTIMATE SURPRISE WAS MAXWELL. I ALMOST CRIED SEEING HIM! THAT HANDS DOWN WAS THE HIGHLIGHT OF THE SHOW TO ME!

P.S. David Banner was looking fantastic!! And Anthony Hamilton’s wife must have tied him down and forced him to shave and dress well. I didn’t even recognize him at first!!! Maxwell looked different, but still a cutie!

Rihanna- surprised me greatly because she actually controlled her tone and sound great!

Al Green- legendary is all I can say! He had everyone in that auditorium standing up and singing.

Nelly- Wack and Fergie murdered him with rapping.

Everyone else I could really care less for.

Nia Long hands down looked amazing! Loved the dress, the hair & makeup was on point..go head Nia!

Best performanced hands down was the A’s…Al Green & Alicia Keys. Alicia & Al Green’s performances brought the crowd to their feet and took us back to good times, family reunions, sitting around the house playin’ cards….it just made you feel good. Everyone from the thuggest of ballers to actors to the bougie was up dancing, singing along, smiling and having a good time. Thats what being a performer is all about. Good to see Maxwell..he still got it.

Lil Wayne shut it down, Neyo’s performance was hot as well as Chris Brown & Ciara’s dance together. Smokin’ hot. I wish Ushers performance had a lil’ bit more “Umph” to it, but he did a good job. I liked Keyshia & Lil’ Kim’s performance. Kim may be all plastic upped, but she can mos def still flow.

Fashion Disaters was Keyshia Cole & her family on the red carpet…Wth?? Keri Hilson needs to let that Tootie from Facts of Life wig go..and loose the Donna Summer outfit as well. Alicia Keys hair was too cute on the red carpet, but i didnt like her shoes. Chili could of came better, she’s too fabulous for what she had on..T-Boz too, what wasup with her pants during the performance? Can we say polyester? Cassie looked a hot mess. It just wasnt right, and she needed some pasties on her breasts last night.

All in All, I enjoyed the show!

#89, Chrisette Michele is more BETJazz, and not commercial like The Dream. We all know the most popular, not talented people, win the awards. I agree w/previous posters about Alicia. If you have hips like that, skinny jeans/pants are not for you. I don’t have hips, but I have thighs, and I would never wear some mess like that. People, people, learn how to dress your bodies! Chris Brown is too bright and young for me, but he had me mesmerized when he did ‘Take You Down’. I feel that his performance was too short, tho. I want Keyshia to stop yelling and dancing. #106, I agree about Lelee. She had a little weight back in the day, but she looked good, but I don’t know about Taj or Coco…they needed some Spanx. I’m still laughing about how my mom was like who that hell is that when she saw Maxwell and said he looks like sex.

I must have been watching a different show than most of you because thought it was cool. Not the best, but it wasn’t bad. I liked Usher’s performance…but I think the thing is he puts more emphasis on his dancing than singing…and I’d personally rather hear his voice and watch him do a few moves then all the acrobatics and no singing. So I guess it just depends on your preference.

Alicia makes me yawn…and though I enjoyed the girl groups coming out I wish they would have sang a little more…and maybe even minus Keyes, lol.

It was also nice that Alicia Keys paid tribute to the girl groups of the 90’s, man thoes people need to make a comeback and show some of so-called artists how its done. But overall the show was kinda good and bad like Keyshia Cole and Rhi Rhi singing off key.

I sooo disagree, Angel! I loved the show! Aside from T-Pain (who ruined Wayne’s performance), Ashanti’s ghetto “I got the good good” thing (what was that???), and Ciara dancing like that on Chris Brown’s sack it was EXCELLENT. I couldn’t contain myself when Al Green performed!!!!! It was the best performance of any awards show, EVER! And Alicia and Neyo were PHENOMENAL.

Ok first of all…did anyone notice that the mics were off terribly last night??? For instance, when Nelly was rapping, when DJ Khaled was shouting during “So Hood”, when Chris Brown was singing and when MAXWELL was singing his Al Green tribute…the background vocals (which were studio dubs) and music overshadowed many of the nights lead vocalists. That said, lets move on the nights other fashion and performances…

D.L. Hugley as host…was awful and thats all to be said about that. BET made a bad choice with him. Also, the presenters scripted small talk, especially Gabrielle Union and that tongue-tied Derek Luke, was so ridiculous.

Alicia Keys’ ode to the sista-girl groups of yesteryear worked so well….even though Coko did a little too much (in addition to looking a mess) T-Boz and Chili seemed to have lost their voices??? En Vogue showed all the girl groups up. Alicia looked like a modern day Cleopatra with her bonestraight wig. Her vocal performance and energy was excellent and helped to tie for the best performance for the night.

Keyshia Cole sounded like a newly-signed act who was performing live for the first time…nervous. She even was caught completely off guard when the songs switched from Heaven Sent to Let It Go…lol she was so busy dancing (trying) that she missed her cue to start singing and her backgorund vocals kept on without her Lol. The outfits were nice and thank God there was no wardrobe malfunction. Lil’ Kim was out of breath instantly, looked like a Las Vegas drag queen.

Ne-Yo put on a tour-de-force, mixing an interesting blend of Cab Calloway, Michael Jackson (Smooth Criminal) to crank out some of the slickest moves on the stage the entire evening. Definitely one of the high points of the show. His clean, 3-piece, fedora donned look of late seems to be a mainstay for the moment and suits him just fine.

Chris Brown appeared on stage, a la special guest, Ciara, for a sensual take on Chris Breezy’s “Take You Down”. Chris really sang the song on top of the fact that he was actually singing the entire time…he gave an honest LIVE performance especially on “With You”. Hold up…now wouldn’t we have loved to see Chris and his chautese, Rihanna, take stage together in place of Ciara??? The camera caught a few great shots of Ms. Umbrella herself doefully grinning at the Chris’ performance. Anyways the mowhawk and the bowtie was cute, even though both of the trends are nearing the end of being relevant. Lol.. It was a good look though.

The highlight of the night would have to be the ensemble, All-Star tribute to Al Green…opened by Jill Scott, who just happened to be sporting new Mo-Locks (mohawk dreadlocks)and some fierce wedged-stilletos. Anthony Hamilton turned up looking unusally dapper and clean, particularly in the facial area. THE SURPRISE OF THE NIGHT WAS when Maxwell strutted on the stage to wrap up the trio of tributes…with a low cut and 1985 ish transition-lense frames. What a surprise. And the cameo was pleasant…near the end he even pulled out a few steps that were coordinated with the band. But no moment matched the pure energy and unity that swept the audience like that of Al Green’s medley. The entire audience was swaying and crooning, to include a sleeveless Busta Rhymes caught playing an imaginary trombone. This was the performance of the night.

Lil’ Wayne put on a respectable performance, but curiously with T-Pain??? No only did T-Pain already perform earlier that night, he wasn’t featured on any of the songs Weezy performed and he singlehandedly won the award for HOT ASS MESS of the evening, In his second appearance on stage, T chose another ringleaderesque top hat to adorn his all white get up. Back to Wayne, he did the best thing he could have done, he spit…alone (no dancers or hype-man) he showed his collage of tattoos and let his hair down.

Excellent performance by Alicia, Marvin Sap and the Al Green tribute. The rest looked like American Idol contestants.

I didn’t read all the comments but I agree with everyone who caught on about Usher trying too hard to comepete… They said it’s friendly competition between Chris Brown and Usher…maybe… I just know Chris Brown talked about them saying things back and forth at rehearsals… Usher obviously was so caught up in trying to beat them (because he IS the best dancer) that he abandoned vocals…I think he assumed everybody knew he could outsing them and so he’d just focus on outperforming them but boy did Neyo get his a**? lol As a credit to Usher, mayyyybbbe the fact that Neyo’s songs are relatively easy to sing is why the man danced so much AND sang PERFECTLY but IDK… Usher was really really boring…And Chris focused too much on dancing too…I don’t like his voice AT ALL and he sounded worse than he ever has last night…and the “rolling” in “Take you down” is SOOOOOOOOO gay so when Ciara came out looking like the insect that mates and eats her lovers head I wanted to puke.. When she was rolling on top of him it was NOT entertaining but raunchy and that’s why she’s #25 (she should be happy to be on the list AT ALL cause she aint doing nothing with Beyonce and JLO) on the dancer’s list. That was so ghetto it made me cringe…that AND Ashanti’s intro…and that is why the two of them will forever remain D List!

One more comment to add to my speil earlier as (POST #189)……..USHER!!! I almost forgot, sadly, to mention that this awards show capitalized on the fact that Usher’s creative growth is at a standstill. This is about more than the fact that his performance looked and felt(detached) like a music video….more than his lip-syncing every word….more than him wearing an over-the-head microphone?….more than the photo-montage that preceeded his entry. This about the fact that nothing has evolved about Usher as he is doing exactly what the newcomers are doing; what he has been doing for years, but he is no longer any better at doing it and we want to see more. Furthermore, “Here I Stand” feels like a relaunched version “Confessions”, only less compelling. First singles are about a night at the club, with two adjacent videos shot on the dancefloor of a club.

Ultimately, following his performance, there were alot of blank stares; people wondering if they had just watched a music video anthology-medley of Usher in 3-D. There was so much going on, Usher might have well been mute for our sake. Compare the performances, Ne-Yo made his way into the audience and really connected in the midst of swirling around the stage. There wasn’t one unrehearsed step by Usher during his show opener.

I actually enjoyed Usher’s performance. I thought the moving floor was a nice touch and I really enjoyed whe him and his male dancers broke it down… But Usher still broke his ass on that one flip in the beginning…that was funny as hell…LOL

I absolutely loved Alicia’s performance. I miss all those old girl groups. I felt like a teenager again watching that and they all still look good! Go Alicia!!

Lil Wayne’s was hot but it got even hotter when he did my joint “Milli”…that is my jam right now!

The BET awards sucked compared to the others DL Hughley tried to hard to be funny the only good performance was alicia keys when she came out with the girl groups half the celebritys nominated were not there ushers performance was horrible compared to other opening acts like j hud and jennifer holiday.

I thought the show was ok, I did read a lot of rumors about usher doing the remix with bey and Wayne but that didnt happen…….
nobody really seems to care how ridiculously tight jennifer hudson dress was. I have no problem with her weight at all but come on, go up a half-size or a full-size, and I guess that I am one of the few people that thinks ciara and chris brown’s routine was tacky and raunchy….and now I done saw some grown ass lil girls on my block really copying the bullshit..
