I just compared pros and cons of other artist to Katrina…being honest not really nasty to her just explaining that in her opinion she cant sing but….I have heard tone,iambic pertameter, range,rhythm, vocals, pitch etc in Rihanna’s voice I studied music…she is alot better than people who come in the industry off the street with no vocal training…that just scream and have large lungs…to project it…there is a difference.. Umbrella has more range than say….Eryka Badu’s= 360′ (the first song) I love the song but she damn near talks on most her songs…come on I own the CD she has tone but no pitch!! Jill Scott is a different kind of artist similar to Badu..Mariah Carey is more similar to Rihanna…in their style and era…Tina Turner has no tone..she is very loud and people like that but not me. Amel Larrueix, Estelle, Marriah Carrey, Rihanna ,any one put out by Quincy Jones, Beyonce, Shania Twain, Lauren Hill, Gladys Night, Anita Baker, …these people have tone, range, and pitch and most importantly can hit notes.
I am sick of JD, Jazzy Phe and all of these other cats coming out with people who could be great singers but who aren’t developed, no modern vocal training, no classical vocal training, they just were raised in a church and can scream loud….and they stopped developing there…its insulting to music fans these days..how do we go from Harry Belefonte to some of the new untamed talent these days?? Most of these new singers don’t even learn notes.( many times they jsut sin a gospel song and people refuse to say they cant sing like on the apollo)..and I wish they did cause they would be alot better. Great singers are not just born they are made.

Beyonce can do what she wants because she’s a real singer and true entertainer. She’s been borrowed from as well as she sets the tone and pace for music with each album dropped so I don’t see her as copying anything. Kelis wasn’t the first to scream in a song and Beyonce wasn’t channeling her at all in Ring the Alarm. She was moreso channeling her own feelings for what she was growing through at the time. Anytime Beyonce’s copied no one says a thing so if she happens to say a lyric similar to an artist that’s not even registering sales, they and you should be grateful for the shoutout.
