the producers that got involved with solange’s album didn’t really work with her UNTIL the music that she’d recorded spoke for her. so I think she really took a lot of risk and really went out to stake her own claim with this record. it is shaping up to be extremely interesting.

Solonge made a believer outta me with her new track. I’m a supa supa dupa fan of Beyonce but it’s really no comparison. They have totally different styles of singing, tone, and voice. I’m not up to supa dupa status with solonge yet cause thats gonna take a few more albums and getting to know her more as an artist but she’s supa!

Brian - I think you are right. Producers may not have given her the time of day because of her name, but I think consumers are willing to give her more of a chance than other creative, unique artists because of who she is. I see so many with similar talent and even more on VH1 Soul late at night or when they play those underground artists who are trying to come up. Regardless, I’m glad she has a good sound and I think it’s refreshing and fun music. Keep up the good work Solange and go ‘head CL. That’s really a good look!

In no way should Solange let a hairstyle define who she is. If she wants to wear long curly black hair then she should be able to. Her switching up her hair to fit in with “neo soul” artists is very contrived, and that would make her less of an artist if she is just conforming. The beauty of any art is that you can be who you are, and portray your art through whatever route you choose. If she wants to dress like a Diva in the latest fashions, with stilettos and long weave and still sing her tunes the way she does then fine.

From what I see Jill Scott has a long curly weave in as well, it may more fuller, but she has it in. Alicia Keys stays with her long black weave. So it’z something wrong when Solange does it? As long as she stays true to herself, and her music then she will be successful. I do spoken word poetry and I still luv to dress up in heels, and such. Do I have to conform to what the stereotypical poet is wearing no! Are my words less powerful and real, no! It’s the words that count not the look in her case.
