I hope you have this feature next year when my daughter graduates from the 8th grade and my younger sister graduates from college!! It is nice to acknowledge people for the accomplishments they have achieved, may it be pre-school, or beauty school, graduation shows that that you remained focused for a certain amount of time to master the skill(s) needed to moving on in life. It may be Kindergarten, or on to studying for your Ph.d you had a goal and accomplished it!! Thanks CL for this feature. Hopefully it will inspire many to accomplish their goal(s) whatever they are.

My youngest sister graduated from Northside High School and is on her way to college! I am so proud of her and all the graduates! Glad to hear people don’t just stop with a high school diploma…if you want to get somewhere, you have to at least have a Bachelors..I had to get a Masters for my field…that is all..

That is beautiful! They (all graduates) need to know people care. Not just people, but their own. And we applaud for everything that isn’t all good, or worthy enough to be praised, or give accolades for the ignorance. But this right here is one up for the Future. There is hope and it’s not in Barack being President; it’s in Us and Our future

I just graduated a few weeks ago from college! YAY!!! That little girl reminds me of the kindergarteners I had in my classroom. I know they do it up north a lot, and at private schools, but their parents were so sad to hear that they didn’t have a kindergarten graduation. Nevertheless, they are still proud of them.

# 7 Politically Incorrect–I happen to work at an inner city school where YES we celebrated PreK graduation, K graduation, 5th grade graduation and 6th grade graduation!!! Many of these kids come from pretty bad situations and the statistics are stacked AGAINST them. The early grades are where we strive to reach them so they CAN go on to accomplish more! Why don’t you take your negative energy and channel it in more POSITIVE ways!!

I feel mixed when it comes to graduations perhaps in the same way aspolitically incorrect. Yes, it is important to celebrate transitions from school to school but I think some of us take it too too too far. A middle school prom where 8th grade girls are dressing seductively. Nah, ma, I don’t think so.
A lot of folks say that the reason why 8th grade graduation is such a big is because most of the students are unlikely to graduate from high school. I say when need to spend less money on the graduation and allot more funds in summerbridge programs from middle school to high school.

Congrats to Mya and everyone who graduated this year. I graduated last year (bachelor’s) and will be receiving my master’s next year…pictures will be sent….Oh to number 7, I have had a graduations for pre-k,6th grad,8th and high school. They make you feel special and mark accomplishments. To make such an asinine statement shows the lack of responsibility toward children and uninteliigence that you posses. I hope one day you can see the importance of lifting our children up that society constantly belittles.

Congratulations to the little cutie in the picture. I also have niece who just graduated from Preschool herself. My youngest sister also graduated from college with double major and studied abroad in South Africa. My family and I are very proud of her.
Congratulations to everyone who knows someone who graduated from preschool to a Master’s degree. Society constantly tell people of color that we are unsuccessful and do not achieve much in life and that’s a lie from the devil himself…we need to uplift and encourage on another regardless of what degree we obtain. May each graduate here and unknown be blessed and achieve great things in life.

I love 2 C children accomplishing their goals even if its head start to college. 1 thing we can never put a color is education. My daughter received 5 awards 2day. Although she’s only 7, I was getting a lil teary eyed watching her cross that stage. cuz I could just picture her walking across that stage as a young adult! Education is the key 2 success and children hold the future key!

You know its amazing that this post can receive 62+ comments about some k-8th grade graduation & yet the post about Nas’s new video/song gets 77 comments? I mean a child–especially a black child graduating is a beautiful thing but I hardly think its worth an entire post & 62+ comments. I just feel like Nas is doing something real courageous & is trying shed light/have a real dialogue about our history & usage of the n-word yet only 77+ people cared 2 comment on it? WTF?

#63 - u need to stfu.. HUSH!!
I actually just went to that Nas post today because I wanted to see what people said. I didn’t comment. No I haven’t watched the video, and no i don’t want to. I haven’t even listened to the song. Personally, I feel like the discussion on the word is overdone and a song will hardly change anything. But the worst part about it is you had to come to THIS post and bash a little girl reaching a milestone. She deserves more comments than the Nas post! There are some true idiots in this post..
P.S. I graduated from college in May with a Computer Science. B.S. Congrats to all graduates!

graduating from 8th grade is not a milestone, is something that should be expected not praised.

@#8 You are absolutely right. Graduation is special no matter what grade. Day care is even special because they do a huge celebration and when my son graduated the ceremony was beautiful. They dressed up in kente cloth and tried to sing songs and it was a tear jearker. I love graduations.

@7 when you have communities (like mine) graduating 35 out of an 8th grade class of 95 then those graduations become very important and are an accomplishment. But that was some time ago, I just graduated from UC Berkeley a few weeks ago.
