The issue came up when JO decided to tell the posters they are wrong for referring to Alicia as black or lightskin because she has a white Mom. Its Alicia decision about her ethnicity not some random biracial person with issues.

Well…I am black. Not biracial, not mulatto, not half/half…100% black. I know I may get alot of hype from this…but I agree with #25. Alicia, Halle, Mariah Rock, Diesel, Tiger, D. Jeter and whoseneva else…I do not look at them as black. I look at them as biracial. It irks me for instance when Halle won the oscar and they referred to her as the first black/african american woman to ever win an Academy Award. She is not black. She and Alicia both came from White mothers at that…not even a black woman. I must give Alicia credit that she embraces her blackness very well. Halle used to during her Boomerang, Losing Isiah days, but in my opinion she is slowly distancing herself. And if her baby looks anything like “Lucinda’s” daughter from the Young and the Restless (a mixed woman and a white man) then the baby will look damn near 100% white. I think biracial individuals claim to tend to cling to the race in which they are more comfortable around and that side of the family that accepted the individual more. If you have a mixed boy or girl raised in the projects or hell’s kitchen then they tend to “be more black” and will even date a bllack individual. if you have a mixed individual raised more around a white community, more of their friends tend to be white and they choose to date other whites. You do not hear white people referring to Halle and the others as white, so why shoiuld we refer to them as black. They are mixed…and its kind of simple as that.

The problem is not that these people are biracial the problem is that black people are always being dogged out for stating that the consider them to be blacks. We cannot forget that our group in this country has one of the most unique and painful histories. We have always had mixed people amongst us thats stood proud and consider themselves black. Keep in mind many of these people had black mothers. I think many biracial kids now have white mothers and alot of these white mothers set these kids up to believe the whole world with the exception of blacks will see them as biracial or a better version of black when that is certainly not the case.
I personally do not see the people that you named as just biracial I see them as black too just like I see my grandmother, great aunt and cousin as blacks and they are all biracial. At the end of the day we are all mixed, especially the average African American so its hard for me to give these people special treatment when the bloodlines are mixed for the rest of us.
