As a matter of fact, she came out around the same time as Rihanna. She released a new single earlier this year and is supposed to release a new album via Interscope Records.

#34 – Teirra’s songs were actually more adult and definitely more ‘hood than Rihanna’s, but the industry won’t accept brown/dark-skinned girls. Say what you want, but it’s the truth. Rihanna’s songs were and are kiddie pop (Britneys Spears type songs – same voice). Teirra can blow too. I hope she does well this time, but unless you’re one of the top dawgs, R&B doesn’t see the light of day.
I saw Jay promoting the hell out of her. He even did the international promotion for her – taking her everywhere he went (red carpet wise) that wasn’t even music related. He really tried to push her and it helped a little, but after that first single and Rihanna, it was a wrap.

actually you can compare the two… the reason she fell off is because (well, first of all because she doesn’t have a distinctive sound…I thought she was the chick who did the “girlfight” song when I first heard that “feel good” song) but…anyway the pt I was making is that they tried to do ghetto Gwen Stefani with that second single. Anybody remember that horrible thing? And, it was just an ill-conceived idea…with something like that you either go all the way hood and silly like Lil Mama (Lip Gloss) or you go all the way pop like Rihanna (Shut up and Drive). Contrary to what you may believe, I think they would have backed her completely had that second single not failed…obviously the execs had it in their mind that they’d have a female star who crossed over… Rihanna was just able to do that…and I think it’s because her voice is distinctive (call it bad but you know her when you hear her) and she wasn’t an American girl so they didn’t have to try so hard to put her into some “hood girl” box…so “good girl gone bad” was a concept that worked with Rihanna…and that same concept didn’t with this girl because it was just some lame “hood girl” Gwen Stefani wannabe type thing…

I always thought that Teairra looked way better than Rihanna. To me i think she was more talented than Rihanna vocally as well. But i guess rihanna beat her in the staying power. Its fucked up that she got dropped at such a young age, but roc-a-fella on the other hand doesn’t really pay alot of attention to artist unless its Kanye though, so maybe it was for the best.
