Roc-a-fella knew Rihanna would become a walking bank when they signed her because Rihanna has so much crossover appeal, white people and people of all races love her, and she ain’t from the hood…Rihanna got that Valley girl Bajan accent thing.
Teirra Mari, however, was at the other side of the spectrum. She was that hood chick…and hood chicks don’t sell a lot of albums in the music industry. Remember that single she had, something about dude making a girl without a daddy feel good..some hood ish like that…lol

I didn’t like Tierra Mari when she first came out, I thought a girl her age singing about a dude making “her feel good” wasn’t a good look. I also didn’t like any of the songs on her album except for “New S*&t” however, I would be lying to say she can’t sing because she can. No there isn’t anything special about her voice, but with a industry full of non-singing chicks I think she deserves some credit.
I thought that was messed up how Jay and Defjam did her, I wish her the best.

She’s not all that dark. She’s darker than most of the “R&B’ cuties but she’s not pitch black. She’s a beautiful girl it was just she was outshined by Rihanna and she lost her appeal. Simple as that. The timing was off for her and on top of that, her song material wasn’t the best. If she got a better support group and actually got some talented writers to pin some hit songs for her, her name can be back in people’s mouth. I don’t think she’ll ever be as big as her counterpart Rihanna but she can do something. I’m thinking if singing still doesn’t go she could always V.J. She’s got that look.

Wow, I’m going to be honest, sometimes I really try not to read the comment section because some of you are complete haters. You have nothing better to do than to tear someone down for going after their dream? How many of you can say that you had a pretty sucessful album, got to be apart of the Rocafella fam, be personally mentored by Jay, and that you get to do fun stuff like this??
First off, for you that don’t know, go to youtube and put in lil wayne and this girls name, its clear that he’s in love with her, even if he’s kinda doing his thing. And she was married to the Dream, this girl is not broke, and those “rumors” of her working in the mall are completely ridiculous. What you have to realize is that success doesn’t always happen the first time around. If Jay dropped her for Rihanna then whatever it was his decision but we all can agree that this girl can sing. On the record thing I think that she was young and was doing what they told her to do whether if she completely agreed or not. Even Pink didn’t want to do a hip hop album at first but she had to to get ahead. And if Janet can’t control her own promotion because she’s having problems with her label and she’s at the top of the food chain, then what do you expect someone in T’s position to do? So look, as black people yes we’re entitled to an opinion but when you relish and enjoy seeing someone down, or you keep talking about things that they couldn’t have possibly had control of and blaming them for it, then you’re not being realistic, and you’re just mean spirited and I feel sorry for you. Obviously none of you can say that you’re in a better place than she is. If 2 major artists, and these aren’t like small time guys loved this girl, then there’s something special to her. I wish her luck and hope that she continues to follow her dream.
#63 – Agreed! People kill me on this site. You know how many albums Rih Rih has …3. Jay appeared in one video for her and that was her last album, Good Girl Gone Bad. Yes TM is hot and pretty. If anything she had the inside track over Rih Rih..she was the princess of the Roc..supposedly lol!. Jay did her FIRST video. He was taking her around, travelling etc. At some point, like Rih Rih you have to go out and make your OWN mark. What people in the states don’t realize Rih Rih is going crazy platinum overseas. Stop w/ the Jay should have done this or B did that. Or Rih Rih can’t sing and TM can. It’s very obvious who has the talent and moving on. By no means am I a major fan of hers but you gotta respect her hustle. At the time TM came on the scene she was probably looked at as something similar to B, Ashanti and Alicia Keys was coming. It just wasn’t her time and blaming people isn’t going to help. You have to have a broad appeal to move units and stay revelant. No amount of promotion or Jay cosigning is going to make her a star…if you don’t believe that then go ask MBleek or Lil Mama who’s album just tanked!

Rihanna’s light and cute and that made her work. She has no talent and truly isn’t a good singer and even less of an entertainer. She’s a shower singer/cleaning around the house singer at best. No TM’s not Estelle dark, but she’s brown skinned and it just doesn’t fly anymore in this industry. This industry’s based on looks and Mary and Brandy came out long enough ago and made a name for themselves that they can still slide through. These newcomers don’t have a chance. Teirra was truly the better singer and she had the spitfire attitude to go with it, but Rihanna’s light and cute and that’s what people gravitated too. If they would’ve reversed it and made Rihanna R&B hood and Teirra pop, Rihanna still would’ve slide through. TONS of people are still wondering how Rihanna made it and that’s why she made it. I dont even know who this chick is or what she sang but I dont see how her look is what hurt her. I understand that its harder for a dark chocolate girl to make it in entertainment (even beautiful ones) with the way things are now but looking at her, I really dont see her as dark but then again I dont know who she is so maybe this is just the pics thats making her look lighter skin. Ri is a little lighter but this girl has a medium brown complexion and is really pretty. I think she is just as pretty as Ri but see Ri has her own style and is unique and she’s turned into a style icon which has set her apart from everyone else including Beyonce. This chick here is pretty but looks pretty standard. If you have hit songs, you can make it even if your look isn’t “in” right now. It’s all about finding good song writers. If your look isnt whats gonna make people pay attention, your songs will. If you have a catchy hook and have the ability to get stuck in people’s heads, you can have a career.
