After reading a few reviews, I’m definitely going to check it out.

Thanks Angel for posting events like this. Its nice to see what others are doing outside of the US. Next time can you feature details about the movie instead of just focusing on the celebs? Hey, maybe you guys can start a movie/dvd section! Something that features urban mainstream and indie flicks that aren’t getting exposure. That would be killer!

And yeah, I do plan on starting a DVD review and release section in the future. Just gotta find the right person to keep it up to date. I’ll keep y’all posted.

Just as I can not speak on this topic, I feel the same when reading comments from people commenting that are not from the states. Yeah we know American artists are world wide, but we get to know about them a little better than people who are not from here. That’s why I made the comment about not addressing my comments if your not from the states. Things always get twisted. I guess this is big in the UK.

I like the way they show some teenage girl giving brain. Very artistic. This movie won’t get any of my ends not today or any other day.

Finally, the UK is being shown some love, thanks Angel. The movie is good n can’t wait till Friday to watch Adulthood. Yeah most of you guys won’t know who they are cos they are UK actors. Im glad black actors in the UK are being noticed now.

I’m not from the UK but I’ve heard of a few of the celebs. It’s good to see Su-Elise! She’s looking good these days, Lisa Maffia too but Asher? I don’t think so. For the people that went for visits or stayed there for awhile, how did you not know of those three at least? Mis-teeq and So Solid Crew used to be huge.

Thanks Gee (17) i feel the same way! Yes, in the U.S you have Tyler Perry, Spike Lee to name a few but in the U.K people and T.V is not interested in showing black folk in a positive light f showing them at all. I’m not really feeling this film for these reasons, the U.K need to start showing black people in love, black people in business and black people doing positive things.

lol i live in london and don’t know who most of these people are

def wanna see adulthood tho, i enjoyed kidulthood…for those with access to BBCiplayer you can watch the entire movie (kidulthood) online for the next four days.

for those criticizing you may not like what you see but that’s how some people in the UK choose to live you only have to look at the news to see that.. and the movie in my opinion acts as a cautionary tale, same with dub plate drama which wasn’t glorifying crime and violence as it showed the consequences people face when they go down that road.

i do agree that we need movies and tv shows that show positive role models, i can only remember desmonds fitting the description and how many years ago did that end?

I’m a movie lover and from watching the trailer for both movies, I’m hooked. A lot of American made films are not edgy anymore, there not original just cliches, they have no subtance, no weight. Movies that are worth your watch are either international flicks or just movies that was made by unknown directors that usually turn up at film festivals through out the states or internationally. I’ll check out both movies because they seem very interesting. I just wish I could say the same for the movies I watch here in the states.

I know a lot of people don’t recognise the celebs… heck, i’m from the UK and I only know a couple of them. The film is meant to be gritty and be disconcerting at times but that’s the reality of it. Just showing images of positive black poeple would be naive cos there’s the other side to it and often a struggle. . The negative images can only make people think about their own lives, Certainly made me think anyway… :D

I think some of you americans forget that there is life outside america. Black people do exist out of america you know lol. And i dont know how someone can make generalisations about UK black peeps and how we dress based on a few peeps in the pics.

Anyways, i saw kidaulthood and thought it was really good. HOWEVER, i am sick of seeing all these “urban” dramas about black boys struggling and having troubles of drugs and “street life” keeping them from their dream of being the next 50 cent. LOOK, yes, it exist..but it is not all we are. We see this all the time on the news and in the mainstream media. Do we really need to reinforce these stereoptypical views by making movies like this ourselves? can we please see something else! x

@ 40.
People in the U.K aren’t as materialistic and self obsessed as those in America. They don’t run out and cut up their bodies to achieve a certain look like most of our celebrities. It just isn’t a priority to them. It’s funny that you say they are fat, considering America is the fattest nation in the world. I’m an American. I moved to the UK 5 years ago and i love it. People have more respect for themselves here, they love themselves as they are and are not as shallow as you have proved yourself to be. The best thing about the UK…They appreciate..they don’t HATE.

Most of the actors in this movie or the previous (kidDULTHOOD) are not what you would consider ‘established’ actors. They are still up and coming. Am from the UK (London to be exact) so I can vouch for that. The first movie was v.intense-really graphic-although it does reflect the modern day lives of the youths in the capital, its still slightly exaggerated in my opinion. Although again, saying that, that’s what film does in essence…

There are plenty of famous celebs from the UK though

Naomi Campbell

Idris Elba
Thandie Newton
Kate Winslet
Naomie Harris
Estelle
Amy Winehouse
Leona Lewis
Simon Cowell
Keira Knightley and the list goes on and on.

First off, in the UK we get all the smae songs, albums and movies you get out here. We know all the artists and all the movie stars. America is not the only countries with ghetto areas and guns. The dumb things is,in the states Guns are legal. They’re not in the UK which means you gotta get down real gully to rol with a strap round here because the cops will beat ur ass just for being black. I do wish those ignorant americans out there would wake up and realise these things. Oh yea, people in the UK do know how to dress. These guys are just casual people. I know coz i worked on the set with them.

I think it’s wrong to say that UK peeps are not image conscious at all( Heat, Reveal New , Now and all those trashy mags)l but we’re nowhere as bad as Americans. Plus, we wear what the hell we want for ourselves, not cos some magazine says we have to wear something… e.g. Rihanna’s ‘look’ may be different in the U.S. but I see that all the time in college. I digress… sorry Go check the film

AMERICANS NEED TO EDUCATE THEMSELVES AND REALISE THERE ARE OTHER CELEBRITIES AND MOVIE STARTS WORLD WIDE.

THE REASON WHY PEOPLE HAVE NT HEARD OF THEM IS BECAUSE THE UK BLOCKED OUT ANYTHING THAT IS ‘URBAN’ BUT INSTEAD BIGGS UP AMY WINEHOUSE, KATE WINSLET ETC

KIDULTHOOD AND ADULTHOOD ARE BOTH VER GOOD FILMS CHRONICLING THE HARD SHIPS THE YOUTH FACE TODAY ON THE STREETS OF LONDON.

YOU CAN GOOGLE THESE FILMS AND GET MORE INFO - KIDULTHOOD IS AVAILIABLE ON EBAY/OTHER SIDES.

ITS ABOUT TIME Y’ALL STOP LIVING UP TO YOUR WORD-RENOWNED IGNORANT STERYOTYPE AND START LOOKING AT DEVELOPMENTS OUTSIDE THE US AND SHOW THE UK SOME RESPECT AND LOVE.

IF YOU DONT KNOW OF THESE PEOPLE INSTEAD OF DISMISSING THEM WHY NOT RESEARCH THEM AND FIND OUT MORE ABOUT THEM? ALL PICTURED ARE VERY TALENTED, MORE SO THAN THE SPICE GIRLS AND AMYWINEHOUSE!

Firstly, big up to Angel for putting this up! Adulthood is gonna be big!
Secondly, those ‘celebs’ are like D List celebs, half of them aren’t even famous, they’ve just been in kidulthood..they’re up and coming. Sue-Elise was in Mystique, but she didn’t do anything and as for that Danielle Lloyd, I’m sick and tired of seeing her attach herself to every black man with a bit of money, she is a publicity whore famous for dating average football players.
Thirdly, lol @ the peeps saying that we can’t dress in the UK..LMAO!!!! If that is the case, why are all your American celebs imitating our way of dress? Kanye is known for jacking the European style, as is Pharrell, Lupe, Rihanna etc…
I’ve seen a few fashion items on here, who do you think it was who put you guys on to the whole scarf swag thing? It was us!!!!! The European dress sense is on point, all you americans know about is baggy jeans and white t’s!

Yeah, I just generalised, it’s not nice is it?

73.

COR BLIMEY

Thursday, June 19, 2008 /

Why is the the director and lead actor pictured with that racist Danielle Llody. Have people forgotton her performance on Big Brother, or is it a case of because she was racists towards asians that it dosent matter or that because she’s pretty it makes it a forgivable offence. She’s awful, a publicity whore who will turn up to the opening of an envelope. These black men that hang with her need to tell her to step, because the next thing you know she’ll be getting drunk and telling them that they are the N Word and later saying she didnt mean it as she’s young and stupid, BITCH PLEASE.

I watch Kidulthood for the first time recemtly, and whilst it was a good film for keeping an audience watching, I was slighlty concerned with the representation on youth culture in London. All of the characters in the film were very negative, not one of them had any sense at all and they all seemed to be going of the rails. If I was over the age of 40 I would think that ALL teenagers are like this and that there are no kids out there doing anything posistive with there lives. I really feel like alot of attention is out on kids who are doing wrong and the ones from the same background trying to do something for themselves get NO shine at all. This was represented in the film and I hope that in Adulthood that this issue is addressed. There are some very positive kids out there that are struggling, but all know negativity sells better than positivity.

74.

chuks

Thursday, June 19, 2008 /

adulthood is the only movie you’ll see that portrays black british life even though the violence will be glamorised. the slang, the clothes, the swagger is all london and the director is responsible for that. there’s a rapper called sway from the uk. he’s affilated with akon and lupe fiasco. he’s got a new song out. it’s called f ur x and it’s on on smash. it stars the whole cast of adulthood. if your reading the message check it out if you got time.

p.s black british people love black people. if there american or african it dosen’t matter. i’ll forever seek out my people cause i love my people. concrete loop does it big!
