Janet Jackson can do no wrong. Well at least in my book. After releasing her tenth album earlier this year (Discipline) she’s decided to give the fans a little bit more with the start of her first tour in seven years, Rock Witchu starting in September. Ms. Jackson spoke with Concrete Loop to give us the details on what we can expect from the tour.
“My true goal is to try at least do every single that I’ve ever had. So, I’ve got to figure out a way to fit this in two hours, and yet give them enough of each song so that they don’t feel hungry for more of that song in particular.” She said.
Discipline was released in February of this year, and debuted at #1 on the Billboard charts, but is looking to be a mild success in term of units sold. In a time where everyone in the music industry sites the changing music market for less than stellar sales Janet revealed a rift between herself and her current record label Island/Def Jam.
“The label and myself haven’t quite seen eye-to-eye since the feedback single. So, this kind of basically stopped all promotion. To be quite honest, it just completely stopped all promotion whatsoever on the album. So, I don’t think you’re going to hear another single off of this album.”
Yet Janet doesn’t hold any negative feelings towards her current label deciding to forge on with the Rock Witchu tour and putting out a new book entitled Me. The literary work covers parts of Janet that people don’t know much about. Yes we’ve seen her at different weights but we’ve never really known the real story behind it. Hopefully this book will not only clear things up (for all that want to know) but inspire fans as well.

Though I wasn’t feelin’ “Feedback”. I still bought the album and the album is HOT. “Feedback is one of those songs that’s just a album filler that shouldn’t be released as a single but they alot of great songs on there. That was just a pour choice for a single.

As for Janet blaming her problems and her dismal album sales on Def Jam , somebody that truly cares about her, should pull her aside and say baby its you! Because Janet`s biggest problem is that she isn`t original, she is basically a copy of her brother,Michael,and she is stuck in the 80`s and refuses to accept new ideas.And poor Jermaine Dupri tried to help her and upgrade her sound, but Janet insisted on doing the videos, in that same played out Thriller-style dance choreography,that`s from the 80`s and she stole from her brother, that is so dated and old.At any minute you expect to see MC Hammer jump out and say, Its HAMMERTIME! Everything about Janet her singing style,dancing(she still uses the same dancers she used in the 80s and some of them are grandfathers and grandmothers now ) has lost its freshness.She is nice person and goodhearted,may God bless her! but she refuses to change and let the past and Thriller go.

I heard they were canceling her tour in Europe due to bad tickets sales and lack of public interest. I dont know if thats still true.
after giving all the major releases that came out a fair listen, “disipline” made the top of the list, usher album was complete garbage, and mariah could have done way better. 400k sold off one song is good (but of course its not janet’s standards). sells will probably pick up once the tour starts, and the last 3 (well really 2) albums flopped because after the 2nd video was released it seems like it was the end of the albums era with her, she usually has a minimum of 4 singles released, rihanna had like 5 or 6 singles released off her album, why can’t janet.
The Europe leg of the tour is still on!! Trust, Janet will make her paper across the water.

Janet is pure talent. I love everything she does and I admire her for pushing forward and doing what she wants to do, despite the fact that radio isn’t willing to support her. In my opinion, Feedback should have been a top 10 hit. If LA didnt throw the single out in December, release her album almost in synch with Mariah, and start promotion only the week of the albums release the CD and Feedback would have been more successful. It’s a shame that LA has too much pride to admit that his single choice, Rock With U, was a bad one and instead he pulls the plug on the whole project. Look what he did to TLC & Toni Braxton……

I agree with what Charlamange on the Wendy Williams show I believe sometime last week. Wendy was doing a story about Alicia Keys having slept with Swizz Beats and Swizz Beats wife calling Alicia Keys for sleepin with her husband. So Charlamagne was like “say what you want but Alicia is a genius, she’s on her own PLANET. There are only four artists that are on their own PLANET. Mary J. Blige, Beyonce, Alicia Keys and Mariah Carey….AND JANET JACKSON IS THE UNIVERSE CUZ THEY ALL HAVE BEEN INFLUENCED BY HER. SO THEY ARE ALL ON THEIR OWN PLANETS BUT THEY EXISTING IN JANET’S UNIVERSE.”
And regardless of whether she gets the credit or not it is very true. People are quick to write Janet off, but I mean so what if her last three album didn’t sell major numbers, she still had songs from those albums reach Number One on the dance charts, they still debuted in the Top 2 spots on Billboard, Call On Me was number One for a couple of weeks on the R&B Charts, she still had Number One videos with Call On Me and So Excited and can still perform like no other. I mean when Diana Ross releases a new album and it doesn’t sell large numbers I hear nobody saying she should just quit and stop releasing albums cause they don’t sell, when Stevie Wonder releases albums and they don’t sell large numbers I hear nobody talking about he’s done and should give it up. Yeah maybe Janet ran into a snag after the Superbowl, but so what, who are we to tell somebody they should give up something they love doing? And besides who stays number one forever? Probably the main reason Janet isn’t where she used to be, is because everybody is already doing what she started, which is again why she is the Universe.

I feel horrible for Janet. Although I was disappointed with Discipline it still had some decent songs. Luv, Curtains, What’s Your Name are my favorites. I knew Def Jam wasn’t going to promote her, LA was talking all that shit saying he was going to revive her career and that Virgin missed the mark. Even though they did he rushed her into the studio and in a couple months had her pop out an album just so he could release Janet and Mariah around the same time to try and dominate the market. He should have left her in the studio for at least a year and she would have had some bangers. 20 YO was underrated by the way. Such a good album! Please tell me someone has heard With U, Do It 2 Me, Take Care, and Daybreak! Look them up on YouTube, you will not be dissapointed. If the right singles were chosen and if they would have invested just a little promo for that album it would have been a success. I will be going to see her tour. I’m off my soapbox now.
One more thing. Promotion does work if you have some decent songs. I’m sure Janet was pissed that they didn’t put in the same promotion that Mariah got for the Mimi album when LA took over Def Jam. Mariah got all that promotion, released a great single and she blew up. I really didn’t think the Mimi album was that great and think E=MC2 is a lot better. The same could have happened to Janet if they would have continued to promote her and if one of the singles would have picked up.
