Lil Wayne is jumping for joy! Even though his entire album was leaked a week before it officially hit stores, that didn’t stop his fans from supporting him earlier this week for the release of the highly anticipated, The Carter III.
According to Billboard Magazine (citing figures from Nielsen SoundScan), he sold about 423,000 copies in its first day of release and is set to sell 850,000 to 950,000 copies the first week. Last year’s first-week top-seller was from Kanye West, who sold some 957,000 copies of “Graduation.”
In related news, he has scored his fifth week at the top of the U.S. singles chart with his song, “Lollipop” and is set to open up this years BET Awards with Usher and Beyonce.
AMERIE SIGNS WITH DEF JAM
Amerie is set to undergo a career overhaul – after inking a deal with Def Jam. The singer, who parted ways with Columbia Records earlier this year, released two albums to moderate success. She is hoping the new contract with Def Jam will help boost her career to even greater heights.

Congrats to Amerie tho, Columbia was waaay to far up Beyonce’s azz to worry about any of their other artists. Especially when Because I Love It wasn’t even released in America. The album was amazingggg. Her best so far in my opinion. Girl’s got mad talent.

Wayne’s album is at best 3.5/5. It has it’s fair share of good and terrible songs like La La, Mrs Officer and Phone Home. Kanye laced him with some nice beats too but sometimes he talks so much random shit he wastes a potentially hot song. Good luck to him anyway.
Amerie is a good artist but she kind of fell off, after the awful ‘Touch’ single I stopped caring.

Sucks Amerie’s 3rd wasn’t released in the states. It’s definitely her best, but hopefully this new label will treat her right. She’s one of the best music artists out there in my opinion, always have been. She was never huge, but that doesn’t mean she was bad.

Amerie congrats on the deal and might I add the multi million dollar 3 album deal Def Jam offered her. Capital and Interscope offered her deals too but Def Jam had the best offering. I would have went with Interscope but Def Jam is a good look. I just hope they dont over do her “mainstream” appeal by producing another stargate/ne-yo type crossover song…yall know damn well all of them songs sound the same and you people keep buying into it over and over. I’m extremely happy for Amerie’s new deal. Columbia didn’t know how to market Amerie at all. Hopefully Def Jam will be able to give Amerie her own niche in the R&B game. They did wonders for Rihanna, maybe they will give Amerie a chance to exploit her artistic creativity and properly promote her.
