Lil Wayne is jumping for joy! Even though his entire album was leaked a week before it officially hit stores, that didn’t stop his fans from supporting him earlier this week for the release of the highly anticipated, The Carter III.
According to Billboard Magazine (citing figures from Nielsen SoundScan), he sold about 423,000 copies in its first day of release and is set to sell 850,000 to 950,000 copies the first week. Last year’s first-week top-seller was from Kanye West, who sold some 957,000 copies of “Graduation.”
In related news, he has scored his fifth week at the top of the U.S. singles chart with his song, “Lollipop” and is set to open up this years BET Awards with Usher and Beyonce.
AMERIE SIGNS WITH DEF JAM
Amerie is set to undergo a career overhaul – after inking a deal with Def Jam. The singer, who parted ways with Columbia Records earlier this year, released two albums to moderate success. She is hoping the new contract with Def Jam will help boost her career to even greater heights.

Someone needs to pull Amerie to the side and tell her the truth, that she is not a good songwriter and to keep on singing, but leave the songwriting to the big dawgs, that have their ear to the street and know what their doing.That song she wrote called Touch, was wack.She also doesn`t know how to pick beats.Keysha Cole,Rhianna and Beyonce have a good ear for beats, if Amerie had given them that Touch song to put on their albums, they would have told Amerie, that they could not put a wack song with a old rehashed beat, out on the streets like that, cause the streets would think that they were`nt holdin it down for the fans anymore, and to go back and flip and improve that song or else they will reject it! Yeah,Amerie is attractive and smart but she has a overinflated opinion about herself and her talent.And if she dosen`t improve her ability to pick and select good beats like Keysha Cole ,she better start looking for another career.
