♫ NAS’ OFFICIAL FIRST SINGLE “HERO” ♫
Friday, June 6, 2008

Just a couple of days go, courtesy of nahright.com, a new Nas track was released and we made a post about it, but here is his official first single, produced by Polow Da Don and featuring Keri Hilson. I am really pleased with the new track from Nas, because admittedly, I was a little afraid for him. No material had leaked from the album and people were becoming a little skeptical.
“Hero” is a great introduction int the new project, though. The song features singer/songwriter Keri Hilson, who will drop her album, In A Perfect World… in September. Nas’s new album, Untitled is set to drop July 15th, after a few minor set backs. Can’t wait!

I’m loving this joint right now. This is exactly what he needs, and what the radio needs.
I also love the other joint he put out with Green Lantern “Black President”. CL should post THAT up. That’ll get a discussion going on, esp. nowadays with the Obama hype.

Truth be told I was very afraid for Nas especially with that title he was trying to push…Glad that’s over as I miss the Godson. Nice track, vocals both Nas and Keri…it just might breath a little life back into the anticipation for the album.

This song reminds me of the song he did with Ameri (I think it was called “Rule”) Nas is a good artist, but sometimes he can get a little annoying with the way he goes about things (ablum promotions).
The song is good anyways.

I like the track. The lyrics are on point. I am one of those people that buy his albums when they come out only because I have never been dissapointed, especially with his lyrics. His flow on this track is more like his older songs which is a good thing! I would like to hear more tracks from his upcoming album though, but I will buy it either way.

LOL @ 21 “just good for hooks Keri”. Sorta true… But I will say “Where did he go” is a lesson in arranging and songwriting, if you haven’t heard it.
Again, I have to say I’m not that impressed by this. Keri could have been replaced by anyone and the song would still be the same, so the collab wasn’t really needed imho.
I just don’t like hype. People don’t live up to it. Sorta like JHud (her timing of release, not ability - cause she has that), or [insert any rapper name here that throws shots at JayZ], or Teanna Taylor, there was a moment when your music should drop, and a lot of them miss it. Even Keri, she had all of these magazine covers and interviews, that was when she was hot, not July or Semptember (when everyone and their grandma tries to release).
Yeah, its the labels fault sometimes - but, I’d rather say “oh sh*t Nas got a new song out” like the day I heard “doin it” by common, I had to pull over on the freeway call people to tune to the radio station - there was no controversial press around that, or constant leaks - and LWFC is still the sh*t to this day.
I just have higher hopes for Nas’ material and I’m not getting it.
P.S I don’t think people really liked alot of snap music or some of the dumb sh*t, they just didn’t want people saying that they were “hating” when they said “laffy taffy” is a dumb a** song. No backbone.
LOL I find a small amount of irony in that…

Fuck Nas. Many fools his generation and younger fail to truly understand the pain the n-word brings. It is so important to learn and maintain your history to better understand the present and prepare for the future. It wasn’t long ago we were colored. It wasn’t long ago we were repel with fire hoses during peaceful protest. It wasn’t long ago church’s were set ablaze in Black communities. 40+ years King and Malcolm were KKKilled and we act as if everything is cool. Katrina. Jena 6. Eleanor Bumpurs. Michael Griffith. Amadou Diallo. The list could go on for days. Fuck Nas.

Love the song. But I wouldn’t hate on Nas so hard in term of the original title of the CD. He isn’t some mindless rapper who just says things to say them and usually has an intelligent, thought provoking lyrical approach to his music. That title actually made me very interested in what he had to say and how he would twist the offensiveness of it to drop some knowledge.

What I’m talking about is that Jews DO NOT accept or “take the sting” out of anything they deem anti-semitic. Nas is full of shit when he say such a thing. He is an opportunist using Kramer’s debacle to capitalize on a waining career. Listen, music is music. I’m fond of many of R. Kelly’s works but that does not make not guilty of being a suspected pedophile. I’m a fan of music; music is art and art sometime offends. Even so we must be careful in how we portray ourselves as a race of people at all times. We can not complain when other races or ethnicities insult our culture or behavior when we refuse to check ourselves. We are created equal but we are not treated equal.

ok people who love this album or cd so much. lets see a profile of the fans of nas and his rap music and style. as i look in my crystal ball; i see people who are not very bright, most didn’t graduate from high school, most can-not hold an intelligent conversation. and think that the world owes them something. and the majority of his fans ARE GOING NO WHERE FAST. this boy/child is no gill-scott heron. the most of you rappers are out of control and this is not from the life of the got damn boss. you people are foolish; continue to beat your head against the wall. and continue to listen to rap that makes you all hard till you get to the pennitenary where they are wait’n on that booty. and you go in bitch’n and come out switch’n. when you booty bandits get out you turn around and infect our black nubian queens. i pity the [you] fool [s]. LAST ; will somebody anybody tell charles barkley . THAT A FOOL AND HIS MONEY IS SOON DEPARTED. What you are doing is creating a service. This is absolutely legal!
You are requesting a legitimate service and you are paying for it!
Here are the 6 individual Email addresses that you have to send $1 to
through PayPal for this to work properly and for you to receive
money.
2) Now Send $1.00 to each of the six people on the list using PayPal,
and in the comment (Subject) section type “Please add me to your
list”. Below are the emails that you transfer the money into:
These groups of email addresses are PayPal IDs or usernames.
Choose any group and send 1 Dollar to:
1) jucaluv1@yahoo.com
2) calaway23@aol.com
3) burkhalter.jacob@gmail.com
4) portarthurtx@hotmail.com
5) jeffersoncounty@live.com
6) sherelld@live.com
STEP 3:
1) take the #1 Email Address off the list,

3) and add Your Email Address as number 6 on the list.
STEP 4:
1) Now, post your amended article to at least 200 news groups (there
are thousands of groups).
2) And email your message to as many people you can. Remember, the
more you post and email the more money you make! This is perfectly
legal!
But you have to post a minimum of 200!
- When you post 200 letters, it is estimated that at least 15 people
will respond and send you $1 ($15).
- Those 15 will post 200 letters each and 225 will send $1 ($225).
- Those 225 will post 200 letters each and 3,375 people will send you
$1 ($3,375).
- Those 3,375 people will post 200 letters each and 50,625 people will
send you $1 (50,625).
- Those 50,625 will post 200 letters each and 749,375 people will send
you $1 (749,375).
- At this point your name drops off the list, but so far, you have
received $813,615.00.
JUST MAKE SURE ALL THE ADDRESSES ARE CORRECT.
When your name is no longer on the list, you just take the latest
posting in the news groups, and send out another $6.00 to Email
Addresses using Paypal on the list, putting your name at number 6
again.
Winners never Quit and Quitters never win.
1. Login to PayPal and click on the “Send Money” tab near the top of the screen
2. In the “Recipient’s Email” field enter the email address
3. In the “Amount” field enter “1″ (This is your $1.00 payment)
4. In the “Category” field select “Service” (Keeping it legal)
5. In the “Subject” field type “EMAIL LIST”, and in the “NOTE” field enter “PLEASE PUT ME ON YOUR EMAIL LIST”. By doing this, you are creating a service and maintaining the legality of the system by “paying” for the service.
6. Finally, click on the “Continue” button to complete the payment.
Repeat these steps for each of the 6 email addresses. That’s it! By
sending the $1.00 payment to each address, you are implementing the compounding POWER of the system. You will reap what you sow!

First off I’ve been listening to hip hop since T- La Rock, Treacherous Three, Waterbed Kev, FatBoys…get it? I’m not enthrall with many off today’s hip hop artists who throw the N- word around as if it’s golden. Nas KNOWS better. Fuck Plies and more than half off those Sambo ministrel acts coming out of the south. What I’m talking about isn’t simply about hip hop or music in general. I’m talking about accountability. As a long time fan of hip hop it never was this vile and degrading. Furthermore WE weren’t as accepting in the late ’70’s & most of the ’80’s with carbon copy rubbish being produce today. Right before “gangsta rap” exploded on the scene, artists such as Public Enemy, Black Sheep, X - Clan, Queen Latifah rule the airwaves. Nas was around then. He KNOWS better. Being a N____r is not part of our roots. Being called one yes, but being one, NO. Know the difference.

This is a hot track, great production and good lyrical content.
It’s funny that when intellectual conscious rap artists drop material of substance, immediately there’s an issue. People are up in arms and dissect every lyric in every verse, but when you have crackheads like Lil’ Wayne who rap about his dick looking like an edible candy i.e. “Lollipop”, or Fat Joe and how he makes it rain on them hoes, both of which are completely disrespectful and degrading to women, no one says anything but nods their heads to the beat and accepts this trash because it’s laced with a catchy tune.
This is exactly why artists like Lupe and Nas are telling us hip hop is a dead and lost art. It’s meaningless and only perpetuates the stereotypes and negativety that our community faces. It’s the fuel to our demise.
I understand this is art and it is to be critqued and judged, but why does no one critque the brainless music that rappers like Souljah Boy, Rick Ross, Nelly, Young Jeezy, Webbie…(the list is endless) put out?
Is it because people like to play into the steroetypes and dont want to hear the truth of what we as a people have become…What is it?
Hip-Hop is really sickening these days.
