NATIONAL HIV TESTING DAY

Most people who are HIV+ don’t even know it and young people (ages 15-24) account for nearly half of new infections.

June 27 is National HIV Testing Day. It’s an opportunity for people nationwide to learn their HIV status, and to gain knowledge to take control of their health and their lives.

On June 27, state and local health departments, HIV testing sites and AIDS service providers across the country will participate in events for National HIV Testing Day, which include health fairs, special events and extended testing hours.

Text your zip code to 566948 or visit YouthAIDS to find a test center near you.

  7. BigDaddyReg

@4 so if CL “was” late, does that mean you are too late to get tested? Don’t think so, it really does not matter what day it is, get tested, and make sure the sex you have is safe.

  8. ThinkAboutIt

    Ages 15 – 24 account for almost 50% of all new cases…. that’s serious.
Young folk dying before they have a chance to really live.
This is really a time when what you don’t know can HURT you.

  9. Wrap it Up People!..A couple of minutes of Pleasure is not worth a lifetime of emotional Pain!

i just took my first test ever last week..i was scared as hell!…it was a simple test though..everyone should know theyre status..and get tested every six months!

  13. I find it sad that threads about Beyonce and other less meaningful subjects warrant 100+ comments, but those about the #1 killer of OUR COMMUNITY get only 15 responses. We must adhere to this topic if nothing else. This isn’t the 80s when HIV/AIDS was taboo. Whether you want to share your views or encourage people to get tested, now’s the time to speak. Silence+Ignorance=DEATH. Know your status and protect yourself at all cause.

  14. WHY YOU NEED TO KNOW:

I had a childhood friend who lived with her boyfriend of 2 years, while we were in college. They were “so in love” and did everything together. Like most people who shack up, they had sex on a regular. But, when the cat was away the mouse surely played. She found out he was cheating when one of his creep buddies told her she was pregnant by him, which lead to a brief break up then reconciliation. This should’ve been a wake up call but wasn’t. Shortly after getting back together, she experienced reoccurring bumps in her vaginal area. In October 2001, test results showed she had herpes. Instead of going ballistic and leaving, she foolishly stayed and continued playing russian roulette.

My girlfriend was a typical broke college student. To make extra $, she occasionally donated plasma to a local blood bank. While at home one night, I received a call from my best friend. Something about the way she said my name made my heart jump. I frantically asked what’s wrong. “KeKe, are you sitting down?” she said. “Carla (changed the name) donated and her HIV test came back positive.” My knees buckled, I fell to the floor, screamed to the high heavens, and cried for 45 mins before saying a word. I’ll never forget that day…..April 4th 2002 when I was handed my “sister’s” death sentence. Your status has an affect on you and those who love you. If not you, protect yourself for them.

  15. DENITA SKYE

One of the leading causes of death among the african american community….and in the DC area. I get choked up everytime I think about how noone cares enough about others health let alone their own. I always ask “What would make someone so nonchalant and careless knowing the risks they’re taking?” Its not enough to know that you possibly may be sending yourself to an early grave………cant type no more. (shaking my head) I just dont get it.

  16. sistah4real

FIRST OFF, I AM A NURSE AND I BEG YOUNG WOMEN TO PROTECT THEMSELVES, YOU WOULD NOT BELIEVE HOW MANY 18 YR OLD GIRLS HAVE BEEN INFECTED BY A BOYFRIEND THAT NEVER TOLD HER HE WAS POSITIVE OR ON THE DOWN LOW. PLEASE WOMEN BE SMART AND LOVE YOURSELF ENOUGH TO PROTECT YOURSELF.

  17. the one is back

We have got to do better. I live in the DC area and the HIV rate is phenomenal but I know poeple who to this day still get down without condoms. And I am like why don’t you just put a gun to your head and pull the trigger maybe you will hit maybe you will not, because that is how stupid people are in going commando in this day and age. Its just that simple.

We are killing ourselves, not the man, not the system, we are dying from this disease because we do not love ourselves and the poeple with are with enough to get tested and to use condoms every single time–even in committed relationships.

I don’t believe is sleeping around or sleeping with one for that matter but that is my choice and spiritual beliefs which took me a long while to get there, but for those who are not there get tested, knowing your status is the best feeling because then you know what to do. Whether positive or negative, living in limbo is not an option.

  18. the one is back

Okay I wrote a post but it didnt post. Kena wow that was a powerful story. Funny thing is that I know people like that and they call themeselves educated self loving women but I am always like how is that so when you are willing to risk your life committed or not. My heart goes out to your sister.

  19. I'D KILL FOR MEGAN GOODE'S BODY

@16- I was gonna say the same thing…I’m guilty of it myself though, b/c when I saw this headline I immediately skipped over it and read the Beyonce one 1st….

  20. dawkinswatch

I would rather it was HIV cure day, there are many cures for aids but they threaten the pharmaceutical industry profits.

What are the cures? Oxytheraphy- there is a google video by Ed Mccabe saying he has destroyed the HIV virus in many patients by flooding their bodies with oxygen. This makes sense because the virus cannot live in Oxygen.

Electrohealing also kills the disease by exposing it to different light waves but doctors have been lied to.

  21. complicated_25

So important that my people protect themselves…we fading fast.

  22. complicated_25

@22….WORD. When I was in college I did this research paper over AIDS and it’s creation….found some interesting stuff….Wangari Maathai or Wagaru Matthai (I can’t remember the spelling of the name) but she had some interesting view points regarding the disease

  23. XPERT2007

Thanks for the post!……I think it is VERY important for people to get tested and to know their status. Any time I bring up the word “HIV” around my friends, they change the subject immediately. Hence, it’s a topic many people avoid ( thus, the lack of comments). Over the past two years, I have known two people indirectly that have been infected with HIV ( One via their girlfriend who was only 23 and the other who was molested @ 12-13 by a man next door and died @ 19 ( b/c the family didn’t find out until it was to late).

THIS DISEASE IS REAL AND IT’S SLOWLY KILLING OUR COMMUNITY. SO, IF NOT FOR YOURSELF, GET TESTED FOR THE PERSON YOU COULD POTENTIALLY INFECT…….

  24. Imma B. Honest

there is a website called thebody.com It’s a site that talks all about HIV and different treatments and what not. HIV is a very serious issue that we should all aknowledge. It can happen to anyone. My friend thought it would never happen to him.

But the media makes HIV seem like a death sentence. It can affect people in different ways. But lots of people can live fufilling lives being positive. They need to show that aspect as well. You can still die from anything from a car wreck, a gun shot…

But my friend has his ups and downs. In the beginning he said he was very depressed cuz he is so young. He still hopes he can find someone and have kids…

There are new technologies out there that will allow positive people to have negative kids..

  25. AriesRme

I say get tested and practice abstinence. Sex is great don’t get me wrong but getting down just to be doing it and doing it just because you in a relationship is very dangerous. Monogamy should no longer be considered “safe” since most folks don’t know or care what being in a committed monogamous relationship means.

  26. JUDAH

There’s a controversy going on here in New York that is being smothered by the media involving thousands of HIV tests that were deemed “positive” but were actually negative. Now the plan is to “test” all the residents of the Bronx.

  27. Andrea

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE GET TESTED MY BFF JUST FOUND OUT 2 WEEKS AGO HE WAS POSITIVE, he didnt look sick or anything went in for something else came out with that news, this is a man that I have a deep affection for and now his life has offically changed, I went & got tested and was negative, but are you?

  28. TS

    @Judah,
Yea, I heard of that too. Its all over the news in the NYC indeed. The people of Bronx needs to watch out.
There is this black dude that going around saying that HIV and AIDS was created to control the population of people of color and he has documents to prove it…
I encourage yall to google it and educate yourselves…

  29. JUDAH

    @30

That was the point of my comment but unfortunately, many of our people allow themselves to get herded into what they’ve been told is correct or “moral”. The newspaper article that I saved had the tone that the people who administered the test were incredulous at how all these tests could come back positive when they were not. They know why the damn tests came back positive. The same way that they are giving many of our people AIDS through the test. If you tell one of these sisters that though, they blow a damn gasket because they’ve become like mini-me’s of this mainstream society. They just swear that “getting tested” is akin to being sexually responsible. That story is supposed to be on the front cover of every newspaper. Lastly yes, William Cooper’s “Behold the Pale Horse” is an excellent book to read to see that the AIDS virus was developed as viral warfare against the blacks and hispanics.

  30. TS

    @Judah,
Look up Boyd Graves. Better yet, google his name under google video.
    Peace.

  31. JUDAH

Yeah. I’ve seen that brother’s info before. I mentioned the biomicroinoculator in one of these threads a long time ago and got the normal, “Judah, you bugged out!!”, responses lol. Black people really believe that they have the highest rate of AIDS by happnstance, as if the other races are not engaging in wanton “unprotected” sex.

  32. JUDAH

It’s good to see that there is a sober-minded black person so continue your research brother.

Yeah – this has been promptly dismissed ny most mainstream media outlets…. it’s suspect that now they want to test ALL residents of the bronx, and no one who is covering it has asked the very logical question… why not just test all of those who had been tested? How do jump to testing an entire borough? What –people don’t move?

certainly like your website but you need to take a look at the spelling on quite a few of your posts. Many of them are rife with spelling issues and I to find it very troublesome to inform the truth then again I will definitely come again again.
