♫ NEW MUSIC FROM KARINA PASIAN
Thursday, June 19, 2008

The young girl who you may remember from her debut single, “16 At War,” chooses the second single from her upcoming album. Karina Pasian has been called many things: a child prodigy, a young Alicia Keys, and I think with the new single, “Can’t Find the Words,” produced by Los (not Ryan Leslie), I think that many will agree.
“Can’t Find the Words” is the featured single of the week on iTunes (this link will launch a free iTunes download), so clicking the link above will open iTunes from your browser and download a free copy of the new single.
Check out Karina on MySpace if you’re digging her sounds, and show her some love!

she bores me but good luck to her. i think she has a pretty voice, pretty look, and obviously can play the piano well. the child prodigy thing is a stretch though lol usually prodigies are ppl who stand out and produce change in a certain area. i don’t see that in her

I like Karina’s music and I am looking forward to her cd. She has another song on her myspace page called “Slow Motion” which I think is a good song. Her music has a positive message unlike the majority of the music out now. Kudos to Karina!!!

LMFAO @ #4! Karina is a great artist. I’ve heard her stuff and I can’t believe she’s so young to have a voice like that. In a music scene full of talentless non-singing artists, she’s refreshing and brings promise. I hope they promote her properly and this “eclectic, self-aware and wise” persona is hers and not drawn up by her record label. That could damage her career by giving feeble minded ppl the chance to categorize her (ex. - the comparisons to A. Keys). Also #5 needs to stop hating. I hate when ppl hate on others for having abilities their ass probably don’t possess. Obviously she isn’t going to show her prodigical talents on a damn R&B track. Did A. Keys… “yes” BUT only in intros and intermissions. Think about it…

Like I’ve said on the old post ,where her 16 at war song video first came out, she doesnt have it. Today if your song isnt catchy, about a dance move, has no message to it, it is not valid.
People were saying all of this and that but have any one of you heard about that 16 at war song? NO
16 at war song was good but a little bore this song is good but a little bore.
Maybe she sould sing about eyeliner and it might be a hit. Lipgloss is poppin was.

@8 i never said she was talentless. i said she was pretty (obviously the girl’s really cute), i said she could sing (i like the tone of her voice, it’s not great but she’s 16, that’s expected), and i think she plays the piano well. i don’t like the song and i’m a hater now lol what ever happened to ppl being entitled to their opinions. i just don’t think she’s a prodigy. i don’t think akeys was one either. prodigy is a big word and they don’t fit the status. to me, a prodigy ends up having a huge impact on the industry or on other artists etc. akeys to me is just a regular artist. ppl like michael jackson are prodigies. he also wrote his own songs but they targeted all people, not just one genre. and he influenced hundreds of artists. she most likely won’t reach that level and that’s ok but hardly anyone does. i mean no one out right now fits the prodigy status (some underground artist do). just my opinion but i wish the girl good luck in her endeavors p.s. no i don’t play the piano lol doesn’t mean i’m not talented

i don’t see why people always assume just because someone can play an instrument they are prodigies.. especially the piano. it’s not a hard thing to do. stevie wonder is a prodigy, ray charles was a prodigy.
anyway, i think karina is talented in any case and a breath of fresh air for the b.s. that people like beyaki and rihanna are putting out all sexed up and such. kudos to her for being 16, and having more sense than these 20 something’s. i hope she stays around for awhile. with her and jazmine sullivan coming around, it looks like r&b may be resuscitated FINALLY.

They are going to set this chick up for failure, if they keep trying to push her to be the next Alicia Keys.
I mean, yes, Alicia will be the obvious person that people will compare Karina to, since she also plays the piano. But, did they have to lock this lil girl in AK’s closet, too?
Seriously, that cover was not a wise decision.
But, I thought her look in the “16 @ War” video was really cute, and individual—-so, they need to expand that look, and NOT make her look like a sloppy second.

The song is okay, it’s not strong enough to be a single but she’s off to a decent start I guess. I cosign with #26. They don’t need to dress her up like Alicia Keys. She is a new artist trying to make a name for herself, and it won’t help if her wardrobe is a clone of someone already established. The comparison will already come since she also plays the piano, but they will really come pouring in if the majority of her image is too similar. I think that will hurt her. I can see it now, people will be quick to accuse of her being a copy cat and write her off without giving her a chance. So I think she change her look just a tad.

According to Wikipedia, Karina is a young lady of Dominican heritage who learned to play piano at a young age and can sing fluently in several languages. That’s a miracle by today’s standards. Most of these fast azzed kids can’t sit their behinds down for two seconds to learn sh-t so this girl is a child prodigy. She is doing something positive, not starring her underaged behind in a R Kelly or Akon video.

I agree #19, the word “prodigy” gets thrown out there too much. I think “classically trained” would be a better term. I’m just saying though. Who know she could have been playing mozart at 3 IDK.
Anyway she has a nice voice and the song was good. I just read about her in the current issue of Vibe “NExt” so I’m glad this was posted because I’d never heard of her.
The only problem I see is we already have Alicia Keys. So unless she does something that is new or outside of the box she may just be a blip on the scene for a minute. And I say that because I KNOW ppl are just going to compare the two but I hope she does well. I think there’s room for everybody, but her ppl really need to help her create her own image and style otherwise she’ll just look like a AK wannabee.

#37 I guess if you are not white, you’re light skin, because saying ” a burnt roach looking dude” is a racist statement and a prejudice to darker tones. Why don’t you judge the person on their performance and talent, not the color of their skin. That is just more examples of the self hatred and division we have among black folks. Have some more class and say something worthwhile.

She sang “Slow Motion” a capella on the radio in Miami and she had everyone of those radio personalities speechless. I think with the right team behind her, she could be really big. All of them are starting to look the same HER, BEYONCE, ALICIA KEYS, RIHANNA, CHRISTINA MILIAN, CIARA, ASHANTI, LEONA LEWIS. Of course they are ALL gonna get comparisons because they all look a like. @54- that’s a dam shame, but I guess it is what it is!

It’s whatever! I’m not here to argue! But I will agree there is a lot left to be desired in terms of the variety in Black female artists.
I like Karina Pasian because she is really talented and her music has message.
Unlike the other Dominican Singer Kat Deluna who only released music with a sexually charged message, even though she has a good voice that could sing any song of any genre!
(And she is fitting the stereotypical Black/Latina image with the wild Blond hair weave and constantly shaking her butt!)
I really don’t see that with Karina…

Wait a minute. So THIS is what they call “being able to play the piano”? I mean. It’s a scale probably not even played by her. I’m just sayin’. Show me some real piano playing and I might be sold.
But I downloaded this a few days ago because it was free. It’s an alright song. I’ll listen to it on shuffle but I probably won’t bump it hard. I’ll stay tuned and see what else is up. I didn’t like 16 At War though.
Riddle me this though: How did she go from the young ghetto anthem ‘16 At War’ to inspirational piano tunes?

Why is color always brought up? Is it her fault that she is light?? The girl is talented regardless of what color her skin is. Yes there needs to be diversity in any genre, but to only focus on the color of someone’s skin instead of their talent is just as wrong I believe. Why can’t we just look at that instead of saying, oh so and so is only making it because they are light skin. Either way you put it, it is still wrong.

well im been follow her career for about 3 years now, and one thing i know is that she really admires Alicia. and why wouldnt she i mean they have similar talents although Alicia is more of an Artist than her, Alicia writes her music and produces her stuff as well as for other artist. Hell “Fallin” was not even suppose to be for Alicia, when she was at Columbia they wanted to give the song to some “prodigy” name Kim somebody but i have yet to hear anything from her and this was 8 year ago. thats why she left Columbia cause they were gonna use all her songs on other artist. But back to Karina she met AK when she was like 8(video on youtube), and has had some training from Alicia(look at her myspace pic) or check out http://www.meetkarina.net to read a recent review she did of AK concert. She understands that she is coming in under Alicia and is very greatful of that and how Alicia embraced her. But as far as her single choices they are trying to stay away from the ones that are piano heavy. So that she wont be looked at as an mini version of AK. but it all good cause she has mad respect for AK and AK is very pleased to know that she helped pave the way for a fellow female piano singer. Cause honestly who every thought that a female at a piano singing would be one of today most prominent Pop Stars, no one. Successful, yes. but never at the level at where AK is at today.

@ #63 in todays music its all about being diverse and tacklling different genres. Most of todays music is in one category. Cause everyone is branching to this whole Euro-Pop/Pop thing. Hate to keep bringiing up Alicia but i mean look at her book of songs, for instance Girlfriend,Jane Doe, Mr. Man on the first album or the As I Am album, its show versatility which not all “artist” can make work in there favor.

#54 that’s sad. Is your friend’s boss black? I guess talent doesn’t count if you don’t have that lightskinned look. And to think that little black girls who aren’t light or biracial will still be fed the messages that they are not good enough to be a singer in the black community no matter how talented if they don’t look like Leona Lewis. I know it’s all about making that cheddar in the music business but for black executives to sell their souls in exchange for it even if it means destroying their own people in the process. Too many black females are rejected everyday in the BLACK entertainment industry as singers and video vixens because they look black and not like a member of another race. The black community seems to be going backwards in a lot of ways.
