The ‘08 BET Awards were held in Los Angeles on Tuesday. I peeped the show and while it had some great moments (gotta love Al Green and the girl groups), it wasn’t as good as expected. Apparently Michelle Obama’s appearance on The View last week was a big hit. So big infact, that the dress she wore by Donna Ricco sold out the next day according to reports. The designer’s response to MSNBC:
“I’m very happy. I’m very surprised. I had no idea she would be wearing this dress,” Ricco told TODAY’s Meredith Vieira Friday in New York. “But it’s sort of a natural happening for me, because I’ve been designing dresses a long time. We ship a lot of dresses to the stores, and I’m happy that Michelle chose this dress to wear on ‘The View.’ ” SOURCE
The dress retals at $148 but Ricco priced it at $99 on her website - of course its sold out on there as well…
Following days of scrutiny from the media and others, Sen. Barack Obama has stopped using a presidential-looking seal.
Obama spokeswoman Jen Psaki said, “It was a one-time seal for a one-time use.”
The media slammed Obama for the seal, which includes an eagle clutching arrows and an olive branch with the phrase “Vero Possumus” above it, a Latin phrase loosely translated as “Yes, we can”. Several journalists called it dumb, bizarre and arrogant.
The McCain campaign called the seal “laughable, ridiculous, preposterous and revealing–all at the same time.”
It looks like Obama may be using the real thing soon. The latest Newsweek poll shows him with a 15-point lead over Republican presidential nominee John McCain.

Remember when we did an artist spotlight on the LA-based band J*Davey? Well, we’re following up with the duo with their new song, “Mr. Mister.” I’ve liked J*Davey for a minute, so it’s good to hear things coming from their way. The song is one of those cool, mellow dance numbers that I have always loved them for.
In the video, vocalist Jack Davey seduces a robot in several locations - from the bedroom in lingerie to the darkroom in neon makeup to the office where no one has noticed she’s not wearing pants, Ms. Davey does her thing. Check ‘em out.

On Saturday, Jill Scott announced during her show at Carnegie Hall in New York that she is engaged to her drummer/boyfriend Jon Roberts:
While she began to sing a tear-filled intro to her signature song ‘He Loves Me (Lyzel In E Flat),’ the blond-striped coiffed musician emerged with a bouquet of yellow roses and kissed the double-Grammy Award winner after whispering sweet sentiments in her left air.
The sold-out crowd, who came to partake in one of the biggest highlights of “The 2008 JVC Jazz Festival,” cheered its approval – some standing at their feet.
Scott, who was divorced from her longtime lover Lyzel Williams last year, beamed as she revealed the secret news to the rapturous audience. SOURCE

Jill isn’t the only one with wedding plans in the future…American Idol season two winner Ruben Studdard is also planning to marry soon and obtained a wedding license yesterday:
Studdard, 29, arrived at the Shelby County Probate Office in Columbiana, Ala. with fiancée Surata Zuri McCants, 30, just before noon, filled out the paperwork and walked away with their license, an eyewitness says. Studdard is a native of nearby Birmingham.
“They looked really happy,” says the eyewitness.
There was no immediate word on when they planned to marry. An Alabama marriage license is valid for 30 days. SOURCE
