PHOTO EXHIBIT: ‘TURN AROUND’ PART I

June 10th, 2008

Hey guys, Angel here. A lot of people don’t know that I’m into photography and seeing as though I’m pretty much done with Part I of my ‘Turn Around’ photo collection, I wanted to share these with those who are curious. Each Photo has a caption with more info on where I was and what was going on.

THE LAKE
THE LAKE

Went to a random nature trail to take photos of trees. An elementary school was on a field trip learning about insects, etc. I asked the teacher if I could take a photo of the kids looking out at the lake, she said it was cool. (2008)

VAN GOGH

When I was up in NYC I got a chance to view my favorite painting ever ‘Starry Night’ by Vincent Van Gogh. The dude in the red shirt was taking notes for a class and the short chick was randomly humming. I think it’s still at MoMA (The Museum of Modern Arts), so if you get a change peep it. (2007)

HORSES & COPS

Went to a rally down in North Carolina and sided with my military counterparts against the Westboro Baptist Church. If you know anything about them, then you know they’re vile. These cops were looking over the area.. (2008)

NYC

Back up in NYC, I went out to eat with some friends. Here we are walking down the street, I think it was in Midtown.. (2008)

THE LIBRARY

Self-portrait taken at the campus library. This was taken around the same time I started CL. (2005)

OLD MAN FISHER

Old man fishing in North Carolina. (2008)

CITY LIFE

I took this the same day I met tattoo artist Kat Von D. We were walking around Wilmington, NC showing support for Obama.. (2008)

FLAG

Two military wives yell back at the Westboro Baptist Church in defense of their husbands. (2008)

UNITED STATES MARINE

U.S. Marine silently attends protest against the Westboro Baptist Church. He had a cane and said he served in Iraq. (2008)

SOLDIER

Another Marine holding up the U.S. flag at Westboro Baptist Church protest.. (2008)

Support the Arts!!

Make sure you support your local artists/photographers/musicians by attending shows and exhibits!

    Nice.

Maybe Part II will be pictures of people from the front. And you might want to B&W some of your pics, too. That would add a nice touch.

    Good job.

Loving all of them, i do photography too, studying a BA in digital photography.
the only slight criticism i have to make is off the library image, i think it could make the series off images stronger if that one was taken out, don’t get me wrong, its a good image, but it just doesn’t sit comfortably with the others, that’s just my opinion though. But in general the whole series is interesting and i love the concept. they’re looking and we’re seeing, hot.

The pics are alright, looks average to me. I’m not being negative or anything, just my opinion. The only pics I really like are the one of the kids looking at the lake and the black & white image of the man fishing.

Angel, this is so unbelievably cool. I love all (ALL, I said) the pictures…it’s your art so I can’t even begin to understand the criticism (if slight). Whatever. Good thing Warhol ignored the fuckers who called him a con man! Again, I love it. Maybe you should make an “arts” section of the blog and keep a running tab on artists. That would be hot.

Very good. I personally like black and white or sepia photos and have a lot of pictures of my daughter in black and white and sepia. Photographs tell a story that sometimes words can’t. Keep up the good work. Next time in NYC go the Museum of Natural History. You well get alot of good pictures and Time Square at night and also the library on 5th Ave across from Sean John store. Good photo op!!

Don’t be afraid to kneel, squat, sit, lie down, stand up high or turn the camera diagonally. With enough practice, you can turn good photos into something great!

I was thinking more along the lines of what she’s doing now…just an art section where she focusing only on artists and their work. I’m sure readers could send things in, but I’d like to see her covering the work of famous and not so famous artists like celebrities.

I am so glad to see that someone has finally put Jacksonville NC on the map. I see that a lot of these photos are taken there, and they look great.
Jacksonville is a small town, better known for Camp Lejeune military base.

    Hey Angel,

I didn’t know you were into photography! Nice pics :) I love taking pictures because you only have that one second to capture that moment or it is forever lost :( It’s always nice to look back like five years and just see how you and everyone else has changed :)
