PICS/VIDEO: JAY-Z A SUCCESS AT THE GLASTONBURY FESTIVAL
Sunday, June 29, 2008
After all the drama and hype, Jay-Z finally took the stage at the 2008 Glastonbury festival this weekend. Despite what the critics expected, the superstar rapper was a hit. He started his gig with a cover of Oasis’ “Wonderwall” (a good way to get back at noel gallagher for talking mess earlier this year)..
According to one reviewer,
“Perhaps I was one of those who had doubts and I was concerned it would not work out, but he proved he is not just another pop star.” [READ MORE]
Anyway, peep video of the performance when you keep reading.

Coming out singing wonderwall was a great way of telling noel gallagher to stfu lol loved it!
I watched the whole performance yesterday (it’ll be up on bbc iplayer for the next 6 days btw) and it was obvious from the crowds reaction that Hip Hop certainly does have a place at Glastonbury, gwan Jay Z!
..and it was good to see Beyonce there supporting her hubby.

Yep…for those that don’t know Noel (member of Oasis) disapproved of Jay (a rapper) headlining the show. So, Jay did Jay and opened with one of their (Oasis) songs! Classic! Gotta love ‘em!

FYI. The song “Wonderwall” which was sung by a group called Oasis was a big hit back in like 1995. But anyway one of the guys from Oasis was talking shit saying that Jay should not be allowed to perform at the festival. (Usually they dont have hip hop artists there). So im assuming Jay opening with “WonderWall” and then switching to “99 Problems” was a way of dissing the dude who was talking mess.

Thank you @ comment No. 12. Some people are so damn slow. It wasnt suppose to be a proper “new rendition” of the bloody song. It was a tongue in cheek response to Noel Gallagher, who moaned that Jay Z should not have been chosen to headline the event. In my opinion Jay SMACKED his performance and won the crowd over….the critics were lapping him up. His done alot of promotional work over here (in the UK) and has proved himself to be smart, funny, charming and charismatic.

That was a nice segment..I was wondering what songs he was going to do but he did ones that had some rock element which was good!
But I also understand why people would criticize him being there…Its a rock concert and Jay-Z is hip-hop..The same shit would not fly if Korn or Limp Bizkit tried to open for SummerJam in NYC..
Jay-Z was good though…i cant front.

Jay killed it of course. Beyonce looked so gorgeous and she was jumping up and down just like the fans were. LMAO!!!!!! B is too funny. She was definitely repping her husband.
Did anybody see on Jonathan Ross show when he asked Jay if Beyonce’s booty was insured?LOL Jay was like “you out of bounds brotha”. And Jonathan was like he has admired her from a distance then he said “maybe I shouldnt have said that”.lol Jay bursted out laughing. It was so funny. Bey and Jay are hilarious I bet they have so much fun together.
Again the concert was hot and even the critics are saying Jay was the best act hands down! Congrats to Jay!

@Khia Fan (R-E-S-P-E Respect Me!!) someone mentioned something on this blog and i just want to reiterate that if a rock band performed at summerjam or any concert centered around hip hop and r&b, black ppl wouldn’t be too happy about that. why is it that when it’s the other way around black ppl wanna be mad about it? it’s like when i pass by a predominantly black neighborhood listening to rock and ppl want to look at me like i’m crazy. i feel like there’s as much division between musical genres as there is between race (even though black ppl created rock, we created it then let white ppl claim it and we just gave it to them and act like any black person who listens to rock is listening to white music). i think it’s sad
i enjoy all musical genres and i just wish we could all respect each other’s tastes. i’m sick of rock ppl downing hip hop and i’m sick of hip hoppers downing rock.
that being said, “wonderwall” is one of my favorite songs. it always gets to me and normally i would trash any version not made by oasis but lol that jay sang it to get back at noel. that was a good one.

ROC BOYS IN THE BUILDING!!!
Sunday, June 29, 2008 /
I honestly frustrates me to have to read some of the comments posted.
I won’t even give the bozo a shout out for being a dumb ass but to the person who said black people just want to say Jay-Z is a success… blah-blah-blah and all that other jazz they wrote. First… um… I don’t know what kind of rock you have been living under Jay-Z IS a SUCCESS, whether you support his music, like it, like him or hate him, he is a SUCCESS and that is a FACT not an opinion!
As for my opinion I think all you people (regardless of your race, but double shame on those of African descent) need to learn how to give respect when it’s due, you may not like dude but you most definitely have to respect him. Jay is making positive moves for Hip-Hop, so before you people are so quick to shit on him and say this and that, how about you find someone who is doing anything as big as Jay is with as much thought and maturity.
As for the people who were saying “oh he proved himself intelligent”… blah-blah-blah… that shit really just irritates the hell out of me… because he’s from the hood he isn’t suppose to be intelligent! Obviously you people don’t own any of his album cause his intelligence is proven throughout each album! Jay is a KING!!!
Some people will never get it, for those of you who will never get it… that sucks!!!
For those of us who do… we know Jay is making a mark for HIP-HOP in the music industry PERIOD!!!
Enough said, Jay you’re the best dada!!!
It’s da ROC!!!

i’m a londoner, i live in england, and fucking hell i cried when he performed, i’m a fucking cry baby anyway (I cried during transformers)…
But Jay-Z said fuck you to all the white people here who doubt the ability of black people’s ability to transcend our community and infect theirs with our beauty and talent and raw, uninhibited freedom from their shackles… he sang Wonderwall and shat all over it.. that is an anthem here in England… hahahhaa.. he turned it into something so amazing…
say what u want about Jay-Z, but never say he didn’t do his bit for us…he represented and showed them… omgosh… its beauiful

@89 “Janet Stan”
You said that ignorant ish so that people wud comment on that foolish. How in the hell is Beyonce trying to be like Janet? And how can you say Beyonce isnt a natural born talent, no one gave her that voice, she hasn’t had plastic surgery (like Janet) to make herself more desirable, and although she isnt as great of a dancer, she still can dance. Now dont get me wrong Janet is a bad b***h, but in the words of Beyonce… “you must of just lost yo mind”
And JayZ is definitely talented. Coming from the streets, educating himself, starting from nothing and now on top of the hip hop world. He is one of the best rappers alive. And the gay thing….yeah you sound dumb.

^^^she’s not jumping like a groupie. She’s jumping like a woman who loves and supports her husband. I would have been jumping too if my husband was giving a hot concert like that. The whole crowd was crunk. Jay held it down. People can hate on Hov and Bee but they continue to prove their haters wrong all the time. I’m so happy this is over though. OH MAN!!
I just watched the WHOLE (1 HOUR LONG) thing on youtube and it was amazing phenominal a proud day for a hiphop fan that concert was so amazing that you could feel the energy while being in a room on the computer watching (i.e like me lol)
I honestly think the best parts of the show were
the intro
public service announcement ( was the best performance)
encore
99 problems
hard knock life
izzo
& i know
man he is the best rapper alive he went over all the way in london to a SOLD OUT crowd at a rock festival that thought he/hiphop didn’t belong there and who also blaimed him for tickets selling low and ended up being the high light and talk of the news, radio, blogs,& so on
he makes new york proud every day if you can’t respect that than some thing is truelly wrong wit you
after watching the performance of “public service announcement ” how could you dare ask who’s the best in the game I honestly don’t see any rapper out right now getting the response he got and then putting on a show like that because
#1 they don’t have the category
AND #2 I’mma let you figure number two out for ur self if you need help with this one do yourself a favor and find the whole vid and watch it to help your self come up with the correct answer
I listen to rock and i’m from the hood (BK ,NY) and I’m proud that my favorite rapper isn’t some ignorant clown and that he is opened minded and represents our culture and race with grace and class with a touch of “hood” every step of the way
lupe, amy. and duffy were wonderful also
p.s laugh out LOUD!!! AT BEYONCE JUMPING UP AND DOWN LIKE THAT!!! DAAMN BEE YOU’S A STAN for ya man HUH? , she’s too cute!

Please pass this message to Mr. N Gallagher…
Little known fact: Rock started with Black Americans.
We would never tell YOU that we won’t have you perform because your not AMERICAN.
YOU MAY NOT SAY WHO IS WELCOMED ANYWHERE!!!!!!!!!!
You were clearly making this Jay-Z performance a race issue.

I enjoyed that performance. Isn’t it amazing no matter how accomplished a black man is somehow he always has to prove himself? Jay is doing his thing on all levels God, marriage (beautiful BLACK queen — my queen bee)….His name has been in the mouths of those who wished to start scandal, but it never lasts. He is TALENTED… I guess I’m personally too blessed to wish harm or to be jealous of anyone. If Bee were a white woman supporting her husband, people would say, “They’re so in love,” but because its a black woman showing her black man support, there’s a problem in the media.

you cannot possibly be serious thinking that jay is taking queues from wayne by holding a guitar. Thats the most retarded thing i have read in a minute. In case you have been residing under a rock lately, that was in response to the oasis drama ad comment about the festival having a long tradition of guitar players. Something tells me that information passed over your miniature sense of understanding and the context of his actions.

Sorry JayZ Stans- Jayz’s good alright, he’s good at being a biter, not an original. Tupac, Biggie, Nas, Lil Wayne, etc….He’s copied all their styles and more. He should thank all the underground beat masters and lyricists out there that he’s taken credit for over the years. Finally he know he aint right for trying to adopt the almighty’s name- calling himself “Hov”. On an interview, someone asked him about that name and he was not the usual “cool” sarcastic Jay- he was shaking in his boots because he know better than using God’s name in vain.

Jay Z is a legend in the vein of Tupac and Biggie. He is larger than life, but More Intelligent and a bettery business man. He’s 39 years old with a 26 year old superstar wife, he’s on top of his game. While i do find his newer music uninspired and a tad boring, he’s kind of lost the love he one had for the game.
I do think he’s paved the way for everyone else. I’m glad he shut DOWN the show and did an incredible performance. He is THE MAN.

HAHAHAHA I never knew they had beef. All in all, Noel as always been a douchebag (take his TRL appearence in the 90’s). So all alternative fans already know that BUT he had a point. That’s like inviting Lil Wayne to Ozzy Fest… NOT APPROPRIATE. So since he practiced all night to get back at Noel by covering his song, that makes him “not another pop act???” HA! That’s a fucking joke. Look, be happy you’ve gone far in your career but don’t get stupid w/ others you don’t identify w/. I don’t remember ANY song Jay did on his own (aka EXCLUDING the record w/ Linkin Park) having a rock, indie rock, punk rock, emo, post-new wave, dark wave, goth rock and etc. feel. Why; because HE DIDN’T. So like I said… Noel (even if he’s a douchebag) had a point.

JAY'Z BIGGEST STAN!!!
Tuesday, July 1, 2008 /
@ 176…
Call me a Jay fan if you wish but all those artists you tried to claim as “original” have done the exact same thing Jay has done, sampled beats, lyrics, etc. Lil’ Wayne??? orignial??? are you shitting me? Listen to Rock Bottom by Pleasure featuring Lil’ Wayne the maturity of his part is a rip-off from Aaliyah’s I Don’t Wanna…. so before you go around saying Jay is lacking orginality make sure you check those who you are saying are “original”.
To be honest… everyone copies, imitates… their “idol”. That’s human nature…
so please find another reason to be a hater!!!
Thank you very much

I don’t care what anyone has to say negative about Jay Z because at the end of the day, the dude is a businessman! He killed it at the show PERIOD! And yes, that cat from Oasis set himself up for that slaughter!
GO JAY! Do ya thang baby, do ya thang!
Just when I think he’s topped himself, he comes out with something like THIS! And yea, there are probably an insurmountable number of people who only support him for being black, wealthy and famous. Who cares! He’s making $$$ and selling. That’s his job!
Some of yall are a trip! LOL
