Former vice president Al Gore made his debut in the presidential campaign Monday in Detroit, Michigan, encouraging voters to support Sen. Barack Obama, but also pointing out the inadequacies the nation has faced with the current administration.
“After eight years of incompetence, neglect and failure, we need change. After eight years when our Constitution has been dishonored and disrespected, we need changes,” Gore said.
One of the most popular figures in the Democratic Party, Gore stayed out of the primary campaign. Obama stirred anger over the 2000 presidential outcome when he recognized Gore as “the winner of the popular vote for president”.
He added, “I’m grateful Al Gore came to Detroit tonight, but I’m ever more grateful for everything he’s done in the last 40 years for this country.”
Obama and Gore speak regularly about environmental issues. Obama has said he would consider giving Gore a spot in his cabinet to address environmental problems. There’s a grassroots movement, however, to promote “The Dream Team” of Gore and Obama. View the video of the speech below.
BUSH ENLISTS SPECIAL FORCES
In a final attempt to capture Osama Bin Laden before he leaves office, George W. Bush has enlisted British special forces.
According to a US intelligence source, “If he can say he has killed Saddam Hussein and captured Bin Laden, he can claim to have left the world a safer place.”
That’s a big if and will not guarantee positive appeal for someone who is enduring the lowest level of approval in his presidency.
Late last week, a Western military analyst announced, “We don’t have a clue where he is or even may be. We have had NO credible intelligence on OBL since 2001. All the rest is rumor and rubbish either whipped up by the media or churned out in the power corridors of western capitals.”
Bush is on his farewell tour of Europe, which aimed to gather international support against Iran’s uranium enrichment program. “Much of my discussions on this trip have been dominated by this subject because our allies understand that a nuclear-armed Iran is incredibly destabilizing, and they understand that it would be a major blow to world peace,” Bush said.
If Bush is unable to succeed, Republican presidential hopeful John McCain is ready to make good on that promise. During a New Jersey town meeting on Friday, McCain vowed to capture Osama: “I will get Osama Bin Laden and bring him to justice.”
PAUL DROPS OUT
Three months after he announced his campaign would be winding down, Republican presidential hopeful Ron Paul has called it quits.
He raised millions of dollars online and developed a large grassroots following, but the 72-year-old Texas congressman won few delegates during the primaries.
Paul has said he won’t endorse Sen. John McCain. On Monday’s broadcast of CNN’s “Situation Room”, Paul told Wolf Blitzer, “I don’t plan to endorse John McCain unless he changed his views on the war and was interested in the Federal Reserve and all these other things, which is not likely to happen.”

Ron Paul has been a non-issue for months.
It was so refreshing and inspiring alike to be in the presence with this man and many of his supporters. His dream is clear and his goals are assuring. He is our future! He is our new America!

Ron Paul, I knew this would not last for him but I remained hopeful throughout his campaign. Now it’s already clear who I’ll choose to be the next president of the United States. If Ron paul isn’t endorsing McCain, then I’m not voting for him either.
I think Al Gore should have said something sooner too. Although its good his saying something now because he does have some clout in the political arena. It would be something if Ron Paul or some other people would call McCain out on how it seems as if he is McBush. I seriously believe that Pres. Bush does not care about the American people. He could careless about those approval ratings. Although I don’t know much about foreign relations I read the NYTIMES today and the people in France agree that Bush is all about War.

Whether or not Al Gore should’ve endorsed Obama sooner or later is a matter of opinion, but I was at the Joe last night when Gore endorsed Obama and it was something to see. I was soooo proud of my city and people for coming together. I mean people who never thought about politics before are energized and interested. White people, black people, latino people, asian people.. everyone came out to support. I Loved it! Just to hear Obama, Gore, Gov. Granholm, and my boy Chauncey Billups speak last night was simply amazing. And I did sign up to be a Michigan Volunteer for the Obama campaign and I strongly urge everyone else to do the same for their area!!!!!!!

I hope every Black person on this blog is registered to vote. In order for our dreams to become reality we have mobilize, get registered and vote. I know in the past we’ve been told that our votes didn’t count. In the past, this may have true, but this time we have to let it be known that Black people are relevant. I’m an Obama supporter but I recently did EXTENSIVE research and read up on Ron Paul’s views and stand points of what he wanted to accomplish and change if elected. People slept on this man b/c NOW I see he would have been a great candidate.. There is soooo much we are up against as a nation in the next few years and I PRAY Obama can really make that CHANGE.. I wish I would of educated myself more on Ron Paul but seeing how the media slept on him, I didn’t really take the initiative to follow him on my own.. However, I hope Obama will be able to make the changes neccessary before it’s too late.. Something in the back of my mind is telling me that Bush is going to pull a slick one come closer to the November elections. It is totally obvious that he is NOT ready to end his power run especially with all the BS he has been passing over the past few months with all these new laws passed and going to effect.. We’ll see what happens!!!
Personally, the most captivating part of this rally was when the Obama supporters booed Hilary and immediately Obama was quick to reject the negative energy that was brewing. It made me very proud that we indeed made the right choice as a party to nominate the candidate who has immense integrity, shows respect to even foes and can appreciate differences. In fact it is a lack of these qualities in the Bush administration that has led to the poor reputation the country has acquired with foreign countries.
Love Obama of course…I’m an environmentalist so Al Gore is the man. I don’t know if Al should be VP as I’d rather he focus on saving the environment but I think he can get a lot of work done towards that goal if he is appointed to the cabinet position.

I believe the timing was right for Al Gore to come out with his support and I know he will continue to be a prominent force in helping Obama get elected. It was a classy move, because if he had come out with his support for Obama sooner he wouldv’e been seen as divisive and he is one political figure that people really respect. During his speech Gore reminded us that the party has an enemy that needs to be defeated and that enemy is not among the democratic party, but in the republican party! It’s McCain! To caper and anyone else who is confused about what Obama said about the prisoners at Guantanamo bay,
First thing’s first is that both candidates realize the need to ban torture and to close Guantanamo all together. it is important to mention that this was not the initial stand of McCain.
What Obama said was the prisoners should be allowed a day in court. Several of the prisoners have been there without any form of a trial because they are tagged prisoners of the war on terror. there is truly no justification if we cannot show intent or probable cause and that is the point Obama is hammering on, we want to combat terrorism but we need to be sure that we are actually being just about it and not arresting wrong people off of loose connections.
And l need not remind us this GITMO situation is a main factor of the breakdown of international relationships between us and other countries particularly European countries . Closing the bay would be ideal but the most logical first step of ensuring everyone gets their day in court is pivotal.
It goes against the fundamental premise this country is built on to deny anyone a chance at justice and to state their case.
I’m really liking the Gore endorsement. Quite a “Dream Team!”
