POLITICAL ROUNDUP: IT’S ALMOST OVER? / CLINTON WILL DO WHAT IT TAKES / CLYBURN SUPPORTS OBAMA
Tuesday, June 3, 2008

The Democratic nomination may be even closer to wrapping up as Sen. Hillary Clinton has asked top donors and supporters to attend a speech Tuesday night in New York.
Referring to the personalized email request to attend the event, one donor said, “This has never happened before.” Analysts suggest she is planning to end her campaign and endorse Sen. Barack Obama within a day or two. A campaign spokesperson, however, denied that Clinton is dropping out.
The two candidates spoke Sunday night and agreed their staffs should begin negotiations on post-primary activities. On Monday, Clinton staffers were told “to turn in their outstanding expense receipts by the end of the week”. Members of her advance staff received calls and emails Sunday which summoned them to New York and told them their roles with the campaign are ending.
Obama is expected to claim enough delegates to put him over the top Tuesday night at an event in St. Paul, Minnesota. On Monday, he said he had asked Clinton to meet “once the dust settles” from the race.
CLINTON WILL DO WHAT IT TAKES
On Tuesday, Sen. Hillary Clinton is set to deliver a message “that she will do whatever it takes” to put a Democrat in the White House. Sen. Barack Obama insiders say this indicates that she would accept an offer to be Obama’s running mate if asked.
According to a close friend and adviser who spoke anonymously, “In her speech…, she will convey the message that first and foremost she is committed to Democrats winning in November and will do whatever she’s asked to do. She will do whatever it takes to bring the party together to win and whatever is asked of her to make sure the Republicans are defeated.”
Both the Clinton and Obama campaigns have said there have been no formal discussions between the campaigns, but this message has been conveyed via informal channels. Obama insiders say the message is a clear signal that Clinton is willing to serve as Obama’s vice president.
CLYBURN SUPPORTS OBAMA
Rep. James Clyburn, the House majority whip, is the highest ranking black person in Congress. He’s now also a Barack Obama supporter.
In a statement on Tuesday, Clyburn said, “I believe the nomination of Senator Obama is our Party’s best chance for victory in November, and our nation’s best hope for much needed change. Senator Obama brings a new vision for our future and new voters to our cause. He has created levels of energy and excitement that I have not witnessed since the 1960s.”
Obama’s campaign advisers said that they were orchestrating an endorsement of Obama by at least eight Senate and House members who had pledged to remain uncommitted until the primaries ended, and that the endorsements would come the moment the South Dakota polls closed on Tuesday night.
The congressional endorsements on Tuesday night are intended to show that the party is behind him and that he is moving from primary to general election. Even the location of Obama’s speech on Tuesday night symbolizes this: the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul, which will be the location of the Republican convention in August.

I’m glad that Hilary is finally accepting defeat. I liked her in the beginning but she was starting to wear on my nerves. It wasn’t about her being a quitter but acknowledging that she had fought a a good fight and lost. She just would not cave in. I love tenacity but damn.
And Thanks J. Dakar, cause I have never read so much about politics until you started posting.

People. This is the white man’s plan. They vote for/endorse Obama/Black man to win the nomination so McCain/Republican/White Man is guaranteed the presidency. Had Hillary won the nomination, they would have a race on their hands so their mindset is to eliminate the threat and set up an easy win.
That’s why we need to get out there and vote this year! If you’re a Dem make sure you are at the polls and encourage EVERYONE to do the same! And that’s real people.
…just my interpretation of the situation.I’m just saying…

That look on that guy’s face, the one standing behind Hillary in that picture pretty much sums up my thoughts right now. WTF?! If girlfriend was really willing to do whatever it took to get a democrat in office she would have bowed out months ago, but she wanted it too damn bad. She stooped to levels that not only made her look bad, but also the democratic party in general (not that they were all a bunch of saints, but her behavior didn’t help any.) It’s already bad enough that Ross Perot threw his hat into the ring (as if one of him wasn’t enough). It’s a little late for Hillary to try to make nice now and ask for shotgun, when she deserves the back seat. Obama’s not perfect, but at least he didn’t play as dirty of a game as Hillary did.

I wonder if Obama supporters will still carry this deep hate for Hillary if Barack chooses her as his running mate?
And if you dont think he doesnt need her on his side…….STOP kidding yourself. Seventeen million americans in total voted for her throughout this election. He needs those people. Rather he chooses her as VP, gives her a place in his cabinet or just has her standing next to him during rallies and speeches. He needs her. I think she is just waiting for the right time to announce it. Plus like she said, she wants to give everyone an opportunity to cast their vote before she drops out. I guess she wants every voter to feel like they were part of the decision and there are still two states left.
Anyway…
Obama-Clinton in November. DEMOCRATS LETS WIN THIS THING!!!!!!

Props to #7 for the video, that woman has just said what many white people feel, and that is real and sad at the same time. We got to get out and vote, and every vote could not count more now. I live in AZ and if McBush gets in the white house, then we are all screwed. Iraq will be our generations vietnam. We need to get a Democrat in the white house now, the Repulicans has had an easy time getting McBush as their man, and the Dems had to fight like bloods and crips to get somebody in place. We got to be out in mass numbers come election time, and if you don’t vote, then don’t complain

I’m tired of hearing about this….i don’t care why Obama won because he made history. He has opened a door that many have tried to close on us for as long as we have been on this land. At this point it doesn’t matter if McCain wins or not because Obama has drawn a blueprint for any minority to follow to get closer to the white house.
Everything takes baby steps people. Hillary shot herself in the foot with losing this campaign. She tried to discredit Obama and she tried to lie her way into the house. Obama has gotten this far because people voted (not black or white but a combined group of people). We need to be thankful that we were alive when this day happened.
Hopefully this will serve as an awakening and a love among blacks that hasn’t been seen since we were picking cotton together in the fields.

Clinton won’t quit and Obama shouldn’t pick her for his running mate. If she had just stopped about few months ago joined with Barack then it would of been a great team. But she made it all out slugfest and now people are so die hard clinton or obama (sorry to say but mostly white people) that they wouldn’t vote for either if they were paired. I’ve heard several people say that they would vote for Mccain if Obama picks hilliary as vp or if hilliary doesn’t get it. It is a total I hate this person now campaign and I credit that to hilliary.

Please Obama do not invite Hilary into your cabinet. She will sabatoge you initiatives. If u must deal with her just use her as a consultant of some sort but other than that keep her at arms length. As a member of the democratic party she is obligated to support his initiatives anyway on behalf of the party (if he’s nominated). Therefore, there isn’t an urgent need to have her in his cabinet. Keeping ur enemies close don’t apply here because she’ll be kept close anyway… a democratic member of the senate…anything more isn’t necessary.
The Caucasian lady in the You Tube video (that’s right I said “caucasian” becuz they are not a pure white race despite what they want to believe but that’s a whole other conversation.) needs to go to hell becuz her racist ass just mad that hilary didn’t win. Even if Hilary was nominated it would still be a good chance that McCain would still win. Powerful white men are men first. They barely want to give a woman a board of director position better yet a presidential position. If Obama lose to McCain please believe that Hilary was going to lose too.
But on the real, they fucked the country up so much that even if Obama didn’t get it I wouldn’t be mad becuz he don’t deserve the headache of trying to fix so much irreversible damage that the ole boy club caused. Im just glad that he got this far and was able to make a huge footprint in history. At the end of the day its not about race for me. I want to hear how this economy is going to get better and when our troops are coming home…among other things. The next president can be canary yellow for all I care just tell me something that make sense and put ur money where ur mouth is.
Oh by the way, shame on you Puerto Rico but that didn’t surprise me becuz down in Miami the hispanics working in the hotels, malls, and such were more racist towards me than any white person I ever met in my life (REAL TALK). You could cut their hatred with a fuckin knife and that surprised the hell out of me considering how they been fucked over by whites thru out their history. Also, I been to Puerto Rico and know oh too well of the wars they fought to liberate themselves…with no avail) Puerto Rico still don’t have control over their own country and still think the white man is goin to save them from the same misery the they placed them in to this very day. SMH. But that too is a whole other story.

Yes, I do think Obama will have the needed delegates to secure the Democratic nomination……WIth all that said, please let us not be fooled! THEIR IS NO WAY IN HOT HELL THAT HE WILL WIN THE GENERAL ELECTION WITHOUT HILLARY (he knows this and so does she)…..this remarkable political woman has won over 8 million American votes and 95% of all the hispanic votes that he so DESPERATELY needs in the general election! Obama is not DUMB by a longshot….it’s all politics people!
Why do you guy’s think he wants to meet with her in a closed door, private meeting (with just him and her) lol?……She will most definitely be your vice-president (whether you guy’s like it or not)! I’m not supporting Obama either way….I will be home in November (i wonder if it will be cold outside lol), I think i’ll make some soup on election day! We have successfully nominated two inexperienced dummies as presidential candidates lol (one has a great war story AND THATS IT, and the other does not even know how many states their are lol)! I can’t wait to see how this turns out! I hope people actually do go out and vote though…..especially the young adults who supports either candidate (this is the only positive thing that has come out of this process in my opinion)!

Obama would be foolish to even think of asking Clinton to be his running mate. Don’t you know they will try even harder to assasinate him so that Clinton could become president! I hope he isn’t that foolish. He should ask another democratic senator, female that is not so polarizing and devious. Please call the Obama Campaign at 1 866 675 2006 option 6 and voice your opinion about not chosing her. She is not needed to unify the Democrats, she actually did more harm to divide the party further with her underhanded tactics. He needs someone who he/we can trust, who will allow him to be President, and that respects him 100% !!!!

I cannot STAND these idiots saying Obama shouldn’t pick Hillary as his VP. How the fuck else do u think he can win the general nomination? She captured just about HALF of the Democratic vote. The thing pushing Obama is the superdelegates.
So please, save ur hatred for the white chic cause its bullshit. I didnt see u talking shit about Hillary before the election, and u know damn good and well that if Obama wasn’t in this race at all you’d be riding Clinton’s dick the whole way. Two minorities running the white house? One a Black man for prez and a White woman for vice prez? Imagine that. And for those that argue that its too big of a bite for America all at once, but that’s bullshit. That would be HISTORICALLY HUGE for America, b/c for the first time in history, a rich white man isn’t in total control.
Working together these two will DESTROY McCain.
Frankly, i dont like either of the candidates cause i dont like politicians. But they’re both loads better than McCain, well the now strangely ultra-conservative McCain.

Barack Obama does not need to pick Hillary for a running mate, any person with an IQ above 0 can see voting democrat in November is there only option. Women will come arround when the figure out who John McCain plans to appoint to the Supreme Court (roe v. wade) and the fact that he has said more than once he is not strong on the economy, and he will continue the war for as long as he feels is needed. The war on Iraq is part of why the gas prices are rising but not solely . Our economy is falling horribly , The American dollar value is decreasing to global traders of oil , that’s a problem as well. A few months ago I found a website that give you alot of information about the fuel economy , it’s either fueleconomy.gov or fueleconomy.com one of them . I’m not a voter but a lot of people are putting unreal expectations on the shoulders of Obama . Thank you very much #55. You said everything I was thinking. Obama is an highly intelligent individual but he has some of the dumbest supporters (at least the ones on Concrete Loop).
Its not about whether he likes her or even if you like her. Its about whats going to help him win in November. And if picking Hillary for VP gets him the win, then I thinik he will take that path. Why? Because he is SMART! Cause really at the end of the day they have the same goals for the country and what they want it to be.

He also claimed that on his radio show, 99 % of his listeners that called in said they didn’t think Obama should pick Clinton. And his claim for their reasoning? That if Obama did, he would need a food-tester to ensure there was no poison in his foodt.
Those kind of notions scare people.
Obama supporters dont want Hillary on the ticket b/c she’s been labeled as a white racist, a preposterous claim, and she has plans to assassinate Obama, which was based on her mention of RFK’s assassination in an interview that had ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO DO WITH OBAMA. And yet people claim she needed to apologize to him, as if she was making any reference to him. So now everything anyone says pertains to Obama right?
Another media screw-up trying to brainwash the public. And they easily took the bait.
Obama supporters need to get off the hate and do what’s best for the country. We know what must be done.

And oddly enough, most of the guy’s listeners on his radio show, were African Americans. Hmmm

The self-righteousness of some of the posters on here is blaring. Quit acting as though black people are monoliths. We all have different reasons for voting for Obama just like Hillary’s supporters have. Some are solely voting for her because she’s a woman. I hope you go to her supporter websites and spew that diatribe to them. Bottom line is I will vote for Obama for my reasons and I don’t want Hillary on the ticket, period.
For the record, I don’t hate Hillary, I just don’t trust her. She is the reason, in my opinion, that the Democrats have been split.
Oh, NoMoreSoul, that black man you were referring to is Joe Madison.

I am so proud of Barack Obama. But unlike many who post here, I am so appreciative of the contributions Bill and Hillary Clinton have made to the betterment of our country. I was in college for a portion of the 90’s. I as well as many of my family members and friends acknowledge prosperity/success became more reachable, specifically saw our incomes and opportunities increase during Bill Clintons tenure as President. Hillary has spent many years working tirelessly on behalf of minorities and low income people. The criticisms BOTH Obama, Hillary and members of their campaign staff leveled at each other is just par for the course, quite normal for those running for the same office and more importantly, quite tame from my perspective. I am basing my opinion on the research I completed of the rhetoric from previous presidential races and on my memory of past presidential races.
It is hard for some to embrace Senator Clinton after she has been critical of the only African American man to have achieved such a great feat. I truly believe if you stay tuned throughout the General Election and keep an open mind, you will conclude the discourse between Senators Clinton and Obama was a lovefest as compared to what will occur between Obama and McCain.
Senator Clinton deserves our respect. I realize that is not a popular view, but it is my view.
She as well as the rest of us are a sum total of all of our experiences, all of our accomplishments, not just what has occured or what we have said or done in more recent times. We can’t succeed in America in isolation and you know what I mean by that. People like Senator Clinton fought for improved quality of life choices for us and did it during a time when it was not always easy ro popular to do so. She deserves a bit more consideration for that alone. She cared and showed a great deal of commitment and courage by doing what was right, what was in her heart. Health care and child welfare advocacy are also near and dear to her heart.
For those who are bitter, I really hope in the near future you will reassess your opinion of her. If nothing else, do not discount that she received as many votes as Senator Obama and in states that have been tagged as swing states. We don’t want her supporters to sit home or switch sides. Let’s not be dimissive of her. She deserves our respect! We need to unite if Senator Obama is to win.
Don’t let the media/pundits dumb you down. Leave their manipulative soundbytes and montras where they belong, in the trash. We are smarter than what they give us credit for and can draw our own intelligent, informed conclusions about who would best serve us politically.
Keep the enthusiasm going. Get out to vote in November.

And it should be noted that THIS was the presidential election. A race for the White House b/w a black man and a white woman, for whoever won this election is certainly going to be the next president of the United states. This was the election and Hillary just lost and she knows it.
John McCain is toast and he has to be aware of this b/c people just aren’t feeling him. He’s not just old but clearly senile. It’s like he’s still trapped in the 60s. I dont think he ever got over being tortured in Vietnam.
Obama has this in the bag, hands-down. The only way Obama will lose is if the Republicans tamper with the election like they did with Gore/Bush election ‘00. But they better know we’re on to them this time and we know that McWar has no chance of winning.

Ok….So I just finished watching Senator Clinton’s “status” speech on CNN and basically this chick will not sit her ass down. The Dems really can not afford this type of stubborn behavior. She fought a good fight but at this point, it is over, she needs to take it on the chin and be supportive of the Dem party. I really get the feeling that when President Obama takes office, she is going to be a real thorn in his side.

You guys raise good points, but I just have a different opinion. The republicans wanted Hillary BADLY as the nominee. She has baggage and they know it. They have absolutely nothing on Obama, and if she’s on the ticket with him, all she will do is bring him down with her because they will go after her. I have respect for Bill Clinton and I had respect for Hillary. She lost it during this election. If she had given up earlier, she would have still had my respect.
I don’t think the people here are bitter. They just don’t agree with you and I can respect all of you. I just would rather it be John Edwards.

Lol, she is a loser.A cry baby, don’t know if I want a cry baby as my president. And those policies were her husband’s policies.America is already fucked up.But congrats to Hilary because you know you got to keep the attention on you somehow and she kept it going. And to those who are saying people voting for Obama because he is black prove it because whites been doing it for years. And mostly, people voting for Hilary because she is a woman. That’s the fact of the matter is whoever is appealing to one, that’s what they vote for.Congratulations to Hilary though because I just couldn’t take the whining and bitching any longer.

Kia #72, your opinion is just as valid as mine. I have heard about Hillary Clinton’s baggage from many pundits. Her “high negatives”. But who decides if her negatives are high or that she has too much baggage? The American public. Not the media or pundits who have their own agendas. They rarely if ever explain those soundbytes.
You sound like an intelligent person who probably has some idea of what that baggage statement means to you. But I believe many do not and just repeat it especially the on air personalities, over and over again. Almost 18 million people voted for Senator Clinton. According to some media outlets that is the highest number of votes ever cast during a primary, ever. Of course Senator Obama shares in the historical significance of that accomplishment because they both were neck and neck in the popular vote, a total of upwards of 35million.
I submit, how high can those ” high negatives” be if so many people continued to vote for her even after the media called the race for Senator Obama months ago? The support she received probably spurred her own and perhaps that is one of the reasons she didn’t get out.
Kia, the number of people who wanted her to continue in the race was essentially the same as the number of people who wanted Barrack Obama to remain a viable candidate. She really wanted it and millions really wanted her to have it.
And if I may gently reiterate my comment about bitterness, I did say “for those who are bitter”, which naturally excludes those who are not. If there are only 2 out of the hundreds perhaps thousands who read and post here, the statement only pertains to just those 2. I have read many threads and based on what I have read, a few posts make me feel comfortable with my statement.

Fighter: Making it this far with every network in the bag for someone else. Making it this far despite being told to drop out for 6 months. Making it this far through the blatant and ignored sexism directed at you every day even coming from supposedly intelligent news reporters.
Wimp: Winning because college kids like you. Winning because CNN likes you. Winning because you can make pretty speeches. Winning because you use the “race card” every time anyone even mentions your race. Winning because the DNC give you someone elses votes.
