POLITICAL ROUNDUP: IT’S ALMOST OVER? / CLINTON WILL DO WHAT IT TAKES / CLYBURN SUPPORTS OBAMA

The Democratic nomination may be even closer to wrapping up as Sen. Hillary Clinton has asked top donors and supporters to attend a speech Tuesday night in New York.

Referring to the personalized email request to attend the event, one donor said, “This has never happened before.” Analysts suggest she is planning to end her campaign and endorse Sen. Barack Obama within a day or two. A campaign spokesperson, however, denied that Clinton is dropping out.

The two candidates spoke Sunday night and agreed their staffs should begin negotiations on post-primary activities. On Monday, Clinton staffers were told “to turn in their outstanding expense receipts by the end of the week”. Members of her advance staff received calls and emails Sunday which summoned them to New York and told them their roles with the campaign are ending.

Obama is expected to claim enough delegates to put him over the top Tuesday night at an event in St. Paul, Minnesota. On Monday, he said he had asked Clinton to meet “once the dust settles” from the race.

CLINTON WILL DO WHAT IT TAKES

On Tuesday, Sen. Hillary Clinton is set to deliver a message “that she will do whatever it takes” to put a Democrat in the White House. Sen. Barack Obama insiders say this indicates that she would accept an offer to be Obama’s running mate if asked.

According to a close friend and adviser who spoke anonymously, “In her speech…, she will convey the message that first and foremost she is committed to Democrats winning in November and will do whatever she’s asked to do. She will do whatever it takes to bring the party together to win and whatever is asked of her to make sure the Republicans are defeated.”

Both the Clinton and Obama campaigns have said there have been no formal discussions between the campaigns, but this message has been conveyed via informal channels. Obama insiders say the message is a clear signal that Clinton is willing to serve as Obama’s vice president.

CLYBURN SUPPORTS OBAMA

Rep. James Clyburn, the House majority whip, is the highest ranking black person in Congress. He’s now also a Barack Obama supporter.

In a statement on Tuesday, Clyburn said, “I believe the nomination of Senator Obama is our Party’s best chance for victory in November, and our nation’s best hope for much needed change. Senator Obama brings a new vision for our future and new voters to our cause. He has created levels of energy and excitement that I have not witnessed since the 1960s.”

Obama’s campaign advisers said that they were orchestrating an endorsement of Obama by at least eight Senate and House members who had pledged to remain uncommitted until the primaries ended, and that the endorsements would come the moment the South Dakota polls closed on Tuesday night.

The congressional endorsements on Tuesday night are intended to show that the party is behind him and that he is moving from primary to general election. Even the location of Obama’s speech on Tuesday night symbolizes this: the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul, which will be the location of the Republican convention in August.

  1. 8BALLER

Thank you very much #55. You said everything I was thinking. Obama is an highly intelligent individual but he has some of the dumbest supporters (at least the ones on Concrete Loop).

Its not about whether he likes her or even if you like her. Its about whats going to help him win in November. And if picking Hillary for VP gets him the win, then I thinik he will take that path. Why? Because he is SMART! Cause really at the end of the day they have the same goals for the country and what they want it to be.

Its time for Obama supporters to get over the hate for Hillary.
Its time for Clinton supporters to get over the hate for Barack.
    LETS TRUELY UNITE.

Republicans are probably laughing at us.

  2. NoMoSoul

@ 59, sorry to say this, but a majority of Americans are actually pretty dumb. Its the truth. And our media is an easy influence that brainwashes people. I refused to join this Obama-fever thing goin on, or this CLinton hate goin on. I dont even identify entirely with the Democratic party, but they are the best option for this country compared to the Republican agenda.

And im sorry to say this, but if Obama looked more like a negro with negroid features (In other words, more like ME), people would not be clinging to him as insanely as they do.

  3. NoMoSoul

There’s this blk man on CNN, cant remember his name, but he was conversing with Lou Dobbs and he stated that he was spreading his bullshit claiming Obama shouldnt pick Clinton because it would be too much for americans all at once. (Bullshit)

He also claimed that on his radio show, 99 % of his listeners that called in said they didn’t think Obama should pick Clinton. And his claim for their reasoning? That if Obama did, he would need a food-tester to ensure there was no poison in his foodt.
Those kind of notions scare people.

Obama supporters dont want Hillary on the ticket b/c she’s been labeled as a white racist, a preposterous claim, and she has plans to assassinate Obama, which was based on her mention of RFK’s assassination in an interview that had ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO DO WITH OBAMA. And yet people claim she needed to apologize to him, as if she was making any reference to him. So now everything anyone says pertains to Obama right?

Another media screw-up trying to brainwash the public. And they easily took the bait.

Obama supporters need to get off the hate and do what’s best for the country. We know what must be done.

  4. NoMoSoul

And oddly enough, most of the guy’s listeners on his radio show, were African Americans. Hmmm

  5. SassyT

@NoMoSoul>>>truth is subjective so I guess we won’t know until November, huh?

  6. SassyT

The self-righteousness of some of the posters on here is blaring. Quit acting as though black people are monoliths. We all have different reasons for voting for Obama just like Hillary’s supporters have. Some are solely voting for her because she’s a woman. I hope you go to her supporter websites and spew that diatribe to them. Bottom line is I will vote for Obama for my reasons and I don’t want Hillary on the ticket, period.

For the record, I don’t hate Hillary, I just don’t trust her. She is the reason, in my opinion, that the Democrats have been split.

Oh, NoMoreSoul, that black man you were referring to is Joe Madison.

  7. SassyT

    Obama has cinched the nomination!!!

  8. Patience

I am so proud of Barack Obama. But unlike many who post here, I am so appreciative of the contributions Bill and Hillary Clinton have made to the betterment of our country. I was in college for a portion of the 90′s. I as well as many of my family members and friends acknowledge prosperity/success became more reachable, specifically saw our incomes and opportunities increase during Bill Clintons tenure as President. Hillary has spent many years working tirelessly on behalf of minorities and low income people. The criticisms BOTH Obama, Hillary and members of their campaign staff leveled at each other is just par for the course, quite normal for those running for the same office and more importantly, quite tame from my perspective. I am basing my opinion on the research I completed of the rhetoric from previous presidential races and on my memory of past presidential races.

It is hard for some to embrace Senator Clinton after she has been critical of the only African American man to have achieved such a great feat. I truly believe if you stay tuned throughout the General Election and keep an open mind, you will conclude the discourse between Senators Clinton and Obama was a lovefest as compared to what will occur between Obama and McCain.

Senator Clinton deserves our respect. I realize that is not a popular view, but it is my view.

She as well as the rest of us are a sum total of all of our experiences, all of our accomplishments, not just what has occured or what we have said or done in more recent times. We can’t succeed in America in isolation and you know what I mean by that. People like Senator Clinton fought for improved quality of life choices for us and did it during a time when it was not always easy ro popular to do so. She deserves a bit more consideration for that alone. She cared and showed a great deal of commitment and courage by doing what was right, what was in her heart. Health care and child welfare advocacy are also near and dear to her heart.

For those who are bitter, I really hope in the near future you will reassess your opinion of her. If nothing else, do not discount that she received as many votes as Senator Obama and in states that have been tagged as swing states. We don’t want her supporters to sit home or switch sides. Let’s not be dimissive of her. She deserves our respect! We need to unite if Senator Obama is to win.

Don’t let the media/pundits dumb you down. Leave their manipulative soundbytes and montras where they belong, in the trash. We are smarter than what they give us credit for and can draw our own intelligent, informed conclusions about who would best serve us politically.

Keep the enthusiasm going. Get out to vote in November.

  9. NoMoSoul

If Patience is a girl, i think im in love.

And yes, I commend both candidates, i may not like them as politicians. But as people i def see where they’re coming from and acknowledge them both as great accomplishing individuals.

  10. NoMoSoul

And it should be noted that THIS was the presidential election. A race for the White House b/w a black man and a white woman, for whoever won this election is certainly going to be the next president of the United states. This was the election and Hillary just lost and she knows it.

John McCain is toast and he has to be aware of this b/c people just aren’t feeling him. He’s not just old but clearly senile. It’s like he’s still trapped in the 60s. I dont think he ever got over being tortured in Vietnam.

Obama has this in the bag, hands-down. The only way Obama will lose is if the Republicans tamper with the election like they did with Gore/Bush election ’00. But they better know we’re on to them this time and we know that McWar has no chance of winning.

  11. Ok….So I just finished watching Senator Clinton’s “status” speech on CNN and basically this chick will not sit her ass down. The Dems really can not afford this type of stubborn behavior. She fought a good fight but at this point, it is over, she needs to take it on the chin and be supportive of the Dem party. I really get the feeling that when President Obama takes office, she is going to be a real thorn in his side.

  12. KIA

You guys raise good points, but I just have a different opinion. The republicans wanted Hillary BADLY as the nominee. She has baggage and they know it. They have absolutely nothing on Obama, and if she’s on the ticket with him, all she will do is bring him down with her because they will go after her. I have respect for Bill Clinton and I had respect for Hillary. She lost it during this election. If she had given up earlier, she would have still had my respect.

I don’t think the people here are bitter. They just don’t agree with you and I can respect all of you. I just would rather it be John Edwards.

  13. Anonymiss

Lol, she is a loser.A cry baby, don’t know if I want a cry baby as my president. And those policies were her husband’s policies.America is already fucked up.But congrats to Hilary because you know you got to keep the attention on you somehow and she kept it going. And to those who are saying people voting for Obama because he is black prove it because whites been doing it for years. And mostly, people voting for Hilary because she is a woman. That’s the fact of the matter is whoever is appealing to one, that’s what they vote for.Congratulations to Hilary though because I just couldn’t take the whining and bitching any longer.

  14. Patience

Kia #72, your opinion is just as valid as mine. I have heard about Hillary Clinton’s baggage from many pundits. Her “high negatives”. But who decides if her negatives are high or that she has too much baggage? The American public. Not the media or pundits who have their own agendas. They rarely if ever explain those soundbytes.

You sound like an intelligent person who probably has some idea of what that baggage statement means to you. But I believe many do not and just repeat it especially the on air personalities, over and over again. Almost 18 million people voted for Senator Clinton. According to some media outlets that is the highest number of votes ever cast during a primary, ever. Of course Senator Obama shares in the historical significance of that accomplishment because they both were neck and neck in the popular vote, a total of upwards of 35million.

I submit, how high can those ” high negatives” be if so many people continued to vote for her even after the media called the race for Senator Obama months ago? The support she received probably spurred her own and perhaps that is one of the reasons she didn’t get out.

Kia, the number of people who wanted her to continue in the race was essentially the same as the number of people who wanted Barrack Obama to remain a viable candidate. She really wanted it and millions really wanted her to have it.

And if I may gently reiterate my comment about bitterness, I did say “for those who are bitter”, which naturally excludes those who are not. If there are only 2 out of the hundreds perhaps thousands who read and post here, the statement only pertains to just those 2. I have read many threads and based on what I have read, a few posts make me feel comfortable with my statement.

Fighter: Making it this far with every network in the bag for someone else. Making it this far despite being told to drop out for 6 months. Making it this far through the blatant and ignored sexism directed at you every day even coming from supposedly intelligent news reporters.

Wimp: Winning because college kids like you. Winning because CNN likes you. Winning because you can make pretty speeches. Winning because you use the “race card” every time anyone even mentions your race. Winning because the DNC give you someone elses votes.

  16. Lola AM

Barack: Winning because you chose to be a teamplayer. You never disrespected her, and was always kind and sincere to her despite her maliciousness. You were able to unite people from all races by simply caring about people. As you have said before: this race is not about lapel pins, the media, or relieving gas tax for a short period of time, it’s about Americans.

Clinton: Losing because you took the low road out, never throw your teammate under the bus. Thinking of others will get you far, and being careful not to step on those as you attempt to make your way to the top. Selfishness will trip you every time. Also, watch what you say and be careful not to misspeak or change your agenda when it becomes convenient or beneficial to you.

  17. Lola AM

Everyone has opinions and we are free to choose the candidate that is best for us. No need in putting down anyone’s choice.

As always, REGISTER TO VOTE NOW!!!

  18. SassyT

Hello Lola AM>>>that’s it in a nutshell.

  19. Lola AM

    @ 75

Are you serious right now? MSNBC loves Hillary! CNN really stands for Clinton News Network! Let her tell it-white, hardworking Americans love her (who really pulls the race card?) I’ll give you the sexism, but Obama waded through much more centuries of racism. Where has Hillary made it to? The land of more debt??? Her campaign has been in the red for months, and yet you want her to run this country? It was Hillary who once agreed to rip MI & FL of their votes, but after “winning” the primaries and needing more delegates to try to catch up with Obama, decided they should be counted. Both were lopsided wins because Obama was not even on the ticket in MI and he did not campaign in FL.

Obama won fair and square with voters of all ages, gender, color, and level of education. I’m sorry you find fault in his eloquent speaking abilities, perhaps you’d prefer him to speak Ebonics? He is able to bring unification, but unfortunately Hillary only thinks of self.

  20. KIA

PATIENCE, I respect you and I love you girl.

I listened to Obama’s speech tonight and had nothing to say but good things about Hillary and even McCain. Hillary continued to talk about no one but herself. Her speech let me know why I do not respect her.

  21. honolulu city lights

I just heard Hill’s speech on the car radio. Her voice was cold and she showed no aloha for Obama. This would have been the moment for her to lift us all up, unite, talk about the evils we all face in this America created by the money-loving corporate rich Bush people. She could have encouraged us all to fight on and she could have made us feel united. She couldv’e made us wish she was the candidate.

She could have been a leader.

Instead, she gave guarded praise for Obama and refused to fold her hand.

I’m tired of Hill and I hope she gets a nice job on the Supreme Court. But she needs to go away now and urge her people to move forward with Obama.

  22. fiffj1234

Obama needs to stop praising Clinton so much, I know he is trying to soften the hearts of her supporters. She is resistant to giving him praise because she does not respect him and as the pastor said, HE STOLE HER SHOW!!!!

  23. I AM SO STOKED…

I took the day off…sent hubby off with a…ahh…smile ;) …sent the kiddies off to school…opened a bottle of wine…and I’m savoring (for some reason I don’t think I spelled that right…but…anyway…) this moment in HISTORY…

    HOW AWESOME….HOW BEAUITUFUL…HOW MAGNIFICENT….YES…WE…CAN!!

    OBAMA RULES…

Spell his name right…and keep it correct…

    BARACK OBAMA!!!

I am so lovin’ this moment!!

  24. Noire

Hillary is not going out without a fight (SMH)…. I believe she will use the 18 million voters who supported as a way to strong arm her way into the vp spot. (In other words, vote for Obama only if I am on the ticket as the VP)
I listened to her speech and she did not concede, and she is “letting her supporters decided what she should do next”. WTH?!? As a former Clinton supporter, I am disappointed with the way she has handled herself and I am disappointed with her tactics. If Obama does indeed put her on the ticket as a VP, it may be an uphill battle.

  25. dukesman2000

Oh, yeah Black People, it is our time now…We cannot be stopped. No matter how hard, racist white folks, Uncle Tom Negroes and delusional Puerto Ricans try…WE ARE WHITE HOUSE BOUND!!!!!!

  26. UrbanChick

Obama served on the foreign relations committee. I know that his extensive experience with foreign policy is constantly overlooked because especially “our people” drink the punch that somehow is not qualified enough. Secondly, with John McCain’s experience, he should have understood not to vote for Iraq. Next, he should have understood that the only way to gain a victory in the Middle East should have been to do a troop surge not in Iraq, but Afghanistan. Obama outlined this plan when all the senators including Clinton and McCain were both blinded by the idea of political prosperity versus thinking about the fallout with our troops and position in the international arena. Again, we need to support Obama.

  27. the one is back

Why won’t she just go away I am so tired of her. Whatever respect and admiration I had for Hilary is now gone. I am over it! Seriously I think she has become the epitome of arrogance. Does anyone think Barack would have acted in this manner? Jesus help us all if he taps her for the VP spot, in fact it will be his undoing, he could never sleep with his eyes closed.

  28. jayla06

I actually LOVE the way Hillary conducted herself last night! She respectfully congratulated Senator Obama on his win (what else did she need to do?)! If the shoes were on the other foot….Obama would have done the same thing!

She is an upstanding woman who stood her ground throughout this entire process! She is a fighter who will never give in despite what anyone has to say (and that’s what I look for in a president)….The party can be united without her having to kiss Obama’s ass and hailing praise to his feet! Some of you act as if she has a small number of supporters behind her that are upset by this outcome…..Let’s get real, she has over 18 million supporters, 95% of the hispanic vote, white working-class women, white working-class men! I will say this again, Obama desperately needs Hillary on side…..that’s if he wants to be Commander In Chief, (Hillary knows this, Obama knows this, and the Democratic Part officials and superdelegates know this)! She didn’t win the nomination…..but she still holds power, and believe it or not, she is the keying factor that can make or break Senator Obama’s trail to the White House! So yes, Obama will try to swiftly pick her as his running mate (because this is his only chance at winning)….it does not take a dummy to figure this out lol! She has bite and punch behind her words….He needs her to help him go toe to toe with Mccain in debates or he’s toast! So c’mon people….use your brains on this one! The same way you guy’s feel about Hillary now……are the same way the Republican’s will feel about her when she coach’s Obama how to stomp on Mccain’s ass (yes i said teach)!

  29. UrbanChick

    Noire,

White folk like Hillary thrive off of blacks dependency. People like her have made political successes on making people of color believe that without the presence of whites, they cannot be successful. I agree with your statement wholeheartedly. What kills me is the fact that there are people of color who continue to support this dependent mentality with statements such as he cannot win in November without her. Correct me if I’m wrong, but didn’t he win without her. Yes, we can get into the popular vote lie, but the last time I checked, Clinton could not rightfully hold up that trophy unless we now include people who are not allowed to vote in the US. Even then, she cannot really claim Michigan.

  30. QTpie

I love Hilary, its too bad she didn’t make it. Either way I’m happy with whom ever wins Hilary or Obama. I did like the ideal of having a woman in office; but the world isn’t ready for that!!!

  31. JAZZY

    ALMOST OVER??????
IT IS OVER FOR HIL!!!!!!!!!! DUUUHHHHHHH!!!!!!

BARACK OBAMA IS THE GREATEST!!!!!! AND I WOULDN’T HAVE IT ANY OTHER WAY!!!!!!!
    BARACK OBAMA FOR PRESIDENT 2008!!!!!
    BARACK OBAMA FOR PRESIDENT 2008!!!!!
    BARACK OBAMA FOR PRESIDENT 2008!!!!!
    BARACK OBAMA FOR PRESIDENT 2008!!!!!

  32. CAPER

question blackfolks before we go to celebrating; have you EVER known white people in numbers throwing support around any person or person[s] of color ‘black’? listening to the am talk shows cnn, msnbc etc……… they can’t come out and say it but they do tell it like it is . barack will not get a majority of white voters THERE IS A PROBLEM. and its because he is black. white’s don’t support our movies, our music other than rap, which that to is waning. the cross-over appeal w/ our style of music white’s don’t really support . and they really don’t care about our CULTURE as a whole truth be told. ask oprah who white women like her tv show but will NOT support none of her movies now compare this w/ a miley cyrus aka hanna montana the little talented child is worth a billion dollars NOW WHAT DO THAT TELL YOU BLACK FOLK? and on top of this the lateeno’s, jewish folks and other ethnic races are GREEN W/ ENVY cause its a black reprsenting FOR THE RUN TO THE WHITE HOUSE , and not someone of their kind or ilk and race. its going to be a up hill battle. cause you got sean aka sharon hannity and foxnews on a mission to see that this man is not going to be president.

  33. Noire

    Urbanchick,

Speak on it. Clinton will be remembered (in print, in the minds of young people, on the internet) as the person who is a sore loser and who created a division in the Democratic Party in the 2008 elections. Obama won and now it time for all Democratics to rally behind the Party’s nomination. With Clinton on the loose, there will be no unification.

When will Howard Dean pull her to the side and tell her enough is enough?

  34. Obama needs Hillary as VP because she brings 18 million voters to the table.
Hillary Clinton has a large Hispanic voting bloc as well as caucasian women…

we’re going to need as much help as possible in November

  35. Crazygirl

This is hillarious this is the only time black people will vow against a white women, is when she’s going against a black man.

And my people blakc men and women, having a black person as president means nothing if our community is going to continue to act up and cut the fool.

We can’t celebrate because we think it’s a “In your face I got you back” thing towards white America, yes whites America meaning white men and women. Not just white men.

Crime, the war of the genders, etc. We have to get it together before we all start celebrating.

As long as we stay divided (Obama can only do so much) him potentially becoming president means absolutely nothing.

  36. UrbanChick

Correction, white votes are not Obama’s problem, BIGOTED WHITE VOTES are his problem. Not only would they have not voted for him, but if they had an opportunity to vote for a white male versus a white woman, that white male (McCain) would get their support. Its amazing…again, lets not drink the punch. I love how we are considering the Latino(a), and the white voting blocks, but let me remind my people African Americans of something. YOU MAKE UP ALMOST 90% OF THE DEMOCRATIC VOTING BLOCK. I would like to see any candidate black or white alike win without your support (Black Americans). If we right now left the Democratic Party to support McCain, the Democratic Party would become a minor party. DO NOT UNDERESTIMATE YOURSELVES. We (Democratic Party) have won without certain white votes (Reagan Democrats–whites who believe that someone white is their salvation simply because they too are white–SEE WHAT THAT GOT YOU WITH BUSH), but they cannot win without that black vote.

  37. dukesman2000

    Hey Bill…

Obama doesn’t need Hillary for shit. I used to believe that too, that he might need her for those “hard working whites” vote. But the truth of th matter is: Obama doesn’t need Hillary, because those who didn’t vote for Obama in the caucuses will not vote for him in the national election. Why? Because they are not color blind. When they look at Obama, they don’t see his accomplishments and his competence; all they see is race. And it is inconceivable in their minds to have a Black man be the leader of the “free world.”

Obama is losing in these categories of white seniors, whites with no college education, and hispanics. So he is losing in categories of racist old farts, the illiterate and the dillusional, respectively. But don’t fret; with an historic turn out of blacks coupled with the young whites, Obama will win the presidency.

So whether Hillary is on the ticket or not, what Obama needs is for Black People to come together for this final push, get off their ass a vote this November.

ANOTHER VICTORY FOR THE REPUBLICANS!!! They succeeded in alienating black people from liberal whites that they need for upward mobility, manipulating black fools into voting for a candidate who can’t win, and a victory for their republican candidate in november.

Dumb negroes will be left with nothing but false pride, continued downward mobility in every area of society, and a return of jim crow. Good job black dummies for voting for your own demise.

    Peace, love and prosperity.
