Following days of scrutiny from the media and others, Sen. Barack Obama has stopped using a presidential-looking seal.
Obama spokeswoman Jen Psaki said, “It was a one-time seal for a one-time use.”
The media slammed Obama for the seal, which includes an eagle clutching arrows and an olive branch with the phrase “Vero Possumus” above it, a Latin phrase loosely translated as “Yes, we can”. Several journalists called it dumb, bizarre and arrogant.
The McCain campaign called the seal “laughable, ridiculous, preposterous and revealing–all at the same time.”
It looks like Obama may be using the real thing soon. The latest Newsweek poll shows him with a 15-point lead over Republican presidential nominee John McCain.
TERRORIST ATTACK WOULD HELP MCCAIN?
According to a top adviser for John McCain, a terrorist attack would help McCain in the general election in November.
In an interview with Fortune, McCain’s chief strategist, Charlie Black, said “a fresh terrorist attack ‘certainly would be a big advantage to him.’”
He went on to say:
“The assassination of Benazir Bhutto in December was an ‘unfortunate event,’ but his knowledge and ability to talk about it reemphasized that this is the guy who’s ready to be Commander-in-Chief. And it helped us.”
When questioned about Black’s comments, McCain said, “I cannot imagine why he would say it; it’s not true. I’ve worked tirelessly since 9/11 to prevent anther attack on the United States of America. My record is very clear.”
The Obama campaign called the comments a “complete disgrace” and added that this “is exactly the kind of politics that needs to change”.

Following the remarks of McCain strategist Charlie Black, analysts suggest it might actually be Sen. Barack Obama who could benefit from a terrorist attack.
According to the NBC political unit, “If it’s an outside force, then Black’s probably right. But if it’s something that President Bush sparks, then Obama could benefit.”
The New Republic adds that “another failure of the homeland-security bureaucracy would further discredit Republicans”. Additionally, an attack clearly linked to anger over the Iraq war could also hurt.
Last week, before Charlie Black’s remarks but after McCain national security director Randy Scheunemann accused him of having a “September 10th mindset“, Obama told reporters, “These are the same guys who helped to engineer the distraction of the war in Iraq at a time when we could have pinned down the people who actually committed 9/11. … This is the same kind of fear-mongering that got us into Iraq.”

World terrorism is only being worsened because of the incumbent government’s insistence on using violent force. They slam Obama for wanting to create dialogue with Middle Eastern leaders, but are too wrapped up in their own egos and personal vendettas to realize that their approach is what is making this world a more violent and dangerous place.
The fact McCain’s strategist seemingly invites a terror attack just shows how far they’ll stoop to get this vote, while all the more finding ploys to use against Obama.
