POLITICAL ROUNDUP: OBAMA REINTRODUCES HIMSELF / MCCAIN: $300M TO SOLVE ENERGY CRISIS / CLINTON OFFERS PRAISE FOR OBAMA’S ENERGY PLAN

Sen. Barack Obama is transitioning into general-election mode, buying air time in 18 states, launching a website to combat misinformation and creating a new ad mentioning the “country I love”.

According to Monday’s Washington Post:

Obama ‘has moved aggressively to shape his campaign and offered a clear road map for the kind of candidate he is likely to become in the months ahead: an ambitious gamer of the electoral map, a ruthless fundraiser and a scrupulous manager of his own biography in the face of persistent concerns about how he is perceived. Obama’s early maneuvers suggest a clear understanding within the campaign of his strengths and weaknesses.’”

Rasmussen Reports show him leading John McCain seven percentage points.

MCCAIN: $300M TO SOLVE ENERGY CRISIS

Presumptive Republican nominee John McCain is proposing a $300 million government prize to anyone who can develop an automobile battery that surpasses existing technology. In a speech scheduled for delivery Monday at Fresno State University in California, McCain said the bounty would equate to $1 for every man, woman and child and added that’s “a small price to pay for helping to break the back of our oil dependency”.

The device should deliver power at 30 percent of current costs and have “the size, capacity, cost and power to leapfrog the commercially available plug-in hybrids or electric cars”.

In an excerpt from the prepared text, McCain said, “In the quest for alternatives to oil, our government has thrown around enough money subsidizing special interests and excusing failure. From now on, we will encourage heroic efforts in engineering, and we will reward the greatest success.”

CLINTON OFFERS PRAISE FOR OBAMA’S ENERGY PLAN

At the U.S. Conference of Mayors on Sunday, former President Bill Clinton said he preferred the energy policy of Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Barack Obama over that of Republican rival Sen. John McCain.

I favor Senator Obama’s position, which is to go to 80 percent reduction in greenhouse gasses over Senator McCain’s position, which is to go to 70 percent. But that’s light years ahead of where Republicans have been,” he said.

It was his first public appearance since his wife, Sen. Hillary Clinton, ended her presidential campaign and endorsed Obama. She and Obama are scheduled to campaign together later this week.

Her husband, however, has yet to endorse Obama. When asked by journalists when he might do so, Clinton smiled and shook hands with spectators without acknowledging the question.

Bill Clinton is a jerk for not endorsing Obama. It’s the right thing to do. I guess he’s incapable of doing the right thing.

  9. well said mr future president!

  10. Vida

He cannot be ignored. Change is needed, and people are ready for it.

Say what you want but he gotta go home to hilary. He already fucked her over once before…. and whether we like it or not thats where his loyalties are with. Although i didn’t want her to win…. she gave so much of herself and money to this campaign and to see it just gone is not the easiest thing to deal with. Obama will be fine without ONE indorsment. He’ll live!

  12. FirstLady

    I meant endorsement….typo!

  13. ThatGirlLinda (CL for Change)

I can’t stand Bill no more I feel like burning his book..

  14. sexycdg

I agree with #9. Clinton needs to speak up and join the Obama band wagon…

    YES WE CAN!!!!! Obama 08!

  15. AHARRIS

McCain is offering to give 300 million??? Whoever comes up with the technology to rid us of our dependence on foreign oil will make a hell of a lot more than 300 million. That technology will put them right up there with Bill Gates and Microsoft! $300 million is a joke…

  16. Ant$

Obama is really pushing the fact that he was raised by a white family, isn’t he?

  17. KitaKita35

Do ya’ll remember on “A Different World” when Whitley was dating this guy that was running for senator or something like that? I can’t remember the actor that played him but Barack reminds me of him soooo much. He’s very charasmatic and has that down to earth, regular, hardworking guy appeal. Great smile, really smart and really charming. I just love him! Barack ’08!

  18. That would be Joe Morton, #18.

  19. NO ID

    @17:
Yeah, I thought I was the only one who noticed that he’s the only black person in the ad…..!
But it’s a smart strategy he knows he’s got the black vote and he’s got to fight for the white one…but he’s very quietly going after black voters too, those that aren’t registered, those that are and who haven’t turned out and ex-felons, some of whom don’t realize they retain the right to vote in certain states once they get out….like Ohio.

  20. KIA

I really and truly hope Obama wins this November. McCain is a certified douche bag. Like Obama, I don’t understand why McCain would oppose providing more money for vets who want to go to school, when he is a veteran himself! He’s just totally worthless.

  21. *BAYAREA YAYAREA*

Obama is doing all the right things and his pure diligence will pay off very soon.Bill Clinton just wants some more attention and McCain needs to go sit down because he’s too old and too late.

  22. judasgoat

true dat- true dat; but the truth is obama must come to the middle if he is to be elected. the far left has just got to understand AND is better than NAN. even pat buch-klan-an said barack must move and run as a middle candidate and present himself not to far left or to far right. you know it is a shame WHERE ARE THE BLACK THINK-TANKS ; AND STRATEGISTS AT ? because we as a people need to take note of the outcome, the patterns, and a overall break down of who voted which way and reasons. so we can show people if you are a race-hating state, and you don’t appreciate me or my kind of people then to heck w/ you. all you traditional red republican states. if you don’t respect me then you don’t respect my money either. i’ve been south and them people are seething w/ anger you’d think we are back in the early slave trade days. racism; its a fog is so thick in the south you can’t even see your hand in front of your face. AND ALL CACUASIANS even though geo. bush has robbed us just like jesse james and his gang in broad daylight. bush and cheney can’t do no wrong in the white folks eyes and are real SUPER – SENSITVE about the situation and feel that their commander in chief shouldn’t be dissed. I AGREE WHATS DONE IS DONE there is nothing we can do now but look to the future and try to find our way out this mess. SO THE DEMOCRATIC CONVENTION should not be about bush and cheney bashing NO WE’VE HEARD IT FOR 16 LONG DAMN MONTHS talk about looking ahead and learning from the past. the troops are over in iraq right or wrong they are over there fighting whether you agree or disagree lets show respect and class at this convention. the world will be watching as history is being made lets not stoop to a level that the other side is expecting you to do. finally i said the key to this election is in the past i stand pat on it. and team obama must find the connection to it. for instance; it took dan abrams of msnbc to go back in the past [archives] to get that clip of mccain proclaiming he did not love america until he needed america. so now they fox and friends can back up off michelle obama. and watch for the trap quetions that the tv people can make fudder about. the bible says let your conversation be YAY YAY AND NAY NAY. so be aware. please excuse my diatribe……….. thank-you.

  23. CoCo Chanel

@ 23 LOL.. McCain is way too old & slow

  24. toosie

well to all .. im not a obama fan an if he wins then he will make history…but as for me we are already going through change we needs solutions to he change that we are going through right now no im dont agree..as far as bill he did alot for this country when he was in office and bush came in an messed everything up..so clinton did great despite what yall are saying i was for hillary and she did it all the way so everyone can vote and thats fine but obama will never get my vote in november with saying that good luck because when and if he do make it in the white house i cant wait and see if he really going to do all the things he says in his only speeches that he give hhahahahah…go hillary in 2012…oh plus if he cant win over the 18 million votes that she had it going to be a blow for obama so he has alot of work to do but when iit comes to me he doesnt due to iif hillary not the ticket for vp no vote from me im not voting at all …..

  25. angie

at first i did not know whom to support, but now it is so apparent. i have never supported republicans and it will not start now. i was however somewhat afraid of what new changes can bring about but now i am open to change. i support barack obama and his movement of what he is trying to do. may god bless us all with this upcoming election. i will be voting this november though.

    smiles.

  28. ladylove48

    @ #26
If people keep thinking the way you do, no offense-dont get all rowdy, then I PRAY for this country!
It’s better to have Obama [With or without Hillary] than having McCain!

    McCain=Another Bush Term!

    Get real people!
Your acting like a little kids, “If I dont get what I want [Hillary] then Im not voting!!”
Yeah, thatll be great for the country.
When you dont get what you want, you move on to the next best thing.
And for the Hillary lovers that should be Obama!

    Damn!

    Can I get Amen?!
    lol

My mother thinks the same way, and Im always arguing about it with her
    She’s a Hillary fan.

  29. danDan

:D Oh. I never thought about it like that FIRSTLADY @ 12, you’re right! he does have to go home to her…

    OBAMA 08

(I wish the world could vote… he’d have won already)

  30. SARA

IF YOU ARE AN OBAMA SUPPORTER, PLEASE DONATE TO HIS CAMPAIGN, HE IS RELYING ON US THE VOTERS SINCE HE IS NOT TAKING GOVERNMENT MONEY TO RUN HIS CAMPAIGN. AT HIS WEBSITE (BARACKOBAMA.COM) YOU CAN DONATE ANY AMOUNT, SMALL OR BIG, EVEN AS SMALL AS $5.00 DOLLARS HELPS, AND EVEN MORE IF YOU CAN AFFORD IT.

IF WE WANT OBAMA AS PRESIDENT WE NEED TO ALSO SUPPORT HIS CAMPAIGN WITH WHAT LITTLE WE CAN. LIKE OBAMA SAID THIS IS OUR CAMPAIGN TO WIN OR LOSE, AND SO THAT OBAMA IS READY FOR THE REPUBLICAN ATTACKS THAT WILL COME, OBAMA WILL NEED MONEY TO FIGHT AGAINST THE SMEARS, AND LIES, AND DISTORTIONS THAT WILL BE PUT OUT BY THE REPUBLICANS.

SO LETS HELP HIM BE PREPARED, SO THAT WE CAN HAVE OBAMA IN THE WHITEHOUSE IN NOVEMBER.

  31. Becca

Michelle and Barack are really going hard at widening their appeal for the general election and I think its helping….

I hate that they have to ‘soften’ themselves for the world to appreciate who they really are, but it IS for the best.

  32. Fran Gadson

****i love the love between the obamas they remind of smith-pickett – i think its
****unfair that mccain using tax dollars for his campaign why can’t his lazy self push
    *****for donations like the others

  33. KIA

#30, Ignore #26. The majority of the Hillary supporters need prayer. Do you remember when Obama won the nomination and he praised Hilary? His supporters clapped for her. When Hilary finally endorsed Obama, her supporters started to boo him when she talked about backing him. Very sad.

Hillary has always been selfish and Obama rarely ever talks about himself. Whether or not he does the things that he says he will do if he wins, he can at least try. Don’t forget about Congress. If the President is Democratic and the majority of Congress is Republican, then I doubt he will get to do anything that he really wants if that happens.

  34. star

It amazes me at how many people you hear and see support Obama. Everywhere you turn you’ll always see somebody faithfully supporting Obama!!Although our country has had many setbacks and still do (with the ignorant minds of many people) , I think we have matured in a way with Obama even getting as far as he has in the race!!! It goes to show you that anything is possible!!!!!
    Obama 08…..YES WE CAN
