POLITICS: HISTORY IN THE MAKING
Wednesday, June 4, 2008
A day after becoming the Democratic presumptive nominee, Sen. Barack Obama sat down with Brian Williams to discuss what roles in his campaign the Clintons might play, what the Republicans might say and the most powerful story he heard earlier today.
According to Obama, “Probably the most powerful story I heard was today at a conference. A woman came up to me. She said her son teaches in an inner-city school in S.F. and said that he has seen a change in behavior among the young, African-American boys there in terms of how they think about their studies. Those are the kinds of things I think make you appreciate that it’s not about you as an individual, but it’s about out country and the progress we’ve made.”
Obama also discusses the most talked-about “fist pound” with his wife, Michelle.

Watching the earlier speech from the UK I was truly in awe. This is a fantastic day for American Politics and an even greater day for the progress & plight of African actually, ethnic Americans point blank. Glad to have witnessed history in the making. Wish Mr Obama every success & I hope Hilary runs alongside him as his Vice.
& Loved the fist punch, don’t really think there was anything wrong with it. It actually made me feel they were more regular.
If he wins I might consider moving over!

About the whole fist pound thing: News media is so lame. Look at them looking for definitions and political meaning behind it. Just like ol’ dude said on the street - that’s what we call it in the hood. Yeah, the moment was real cute and all - it definitely got my attention and I gushed about to my bf - but not surprisingly, the media kills it by over-analyzing and trivializing it.

Obama must sharpen his plan for America in a way that is clear and concise from now until the Election. He’s given us enough about his campaign for Change. Now, I want to see his plan in action. It should be palpable for all americans to yearn for his leadership. Also, he must steer clear of the issue of race and constantly talk to Hillary voters, constantly, reminding them why they should choose him and the Democratic ticket. His Vice Presidential choice will also have a great impact. Certainly curious about his platform and choice of VP candidate. He has his work cut out for him from this point forward. REALISTIC!

yes! i agree with 21, i love Obama, he’s amazing! like I said we sing OBAMA, OBAMA on the bus over here in London. however, his policy on everything needs to be very clear, we need to understand exactly what his intentions are, stop waffling. that’s one thing John McCain (booooo) has over him, we know what he wants and how he wants it and how he’s going to do it. Sen Obama, how are you going to take this world, not just America in the right direction.
I do not envy this man’s duty and his calling, i could never do what he does, get up there day after day, putting his life on the line and be so awe inspiring, but let’s get past that- show us, show us!

There’s now more Latinos in this country. There votes is what is needed (as well as the black vote) for him to become President. Get the White folks and it’s a done deal.

@38, obviously non blacks have voted for Obama overwhelmingly b/c otherwise he would not be the nominee and all of us didn’t even vote…he does need more latinos but they’d be a fool to the Mr. America McCain would do anything in their interest. Trust Obama’s ppl are hashing out a plan to appeal to them (the democratic ones that is b/c so many are Republican anyways)…we have plenty of time to get the rest of the votes we’ll need.

I would like to get the thoughts of all the Black people who supported Hillary on how they feel now that she has shitted on us. How? Well, on a night of huge historic significance, to have the first African American becoming the presumptive nominee of a major political party, of which she has yet to acknowledge. Her reluctance to acknowledge this moment is a clear indication of how she feels towards Black People. She basically stepped on OUR historic moment. Pastor Pfelger’s comments don’t seem so outlandish, huh?

I think what Judah said yesterday needs to be repeated.
Judah said:
—-See what I’m takin about. Look at comment 135. You few black men out there
—-payin attention, I hope that you understand what’s going on and what’s coming for
—-you. Obama is supposed to replace Christ as your savior. He is the new model
—-that many of these black women will use for what the black man is supposed to
—-be. He won’t stop or change a damn thing but what he will do is cause more
—-confusion. He’ll be used as a diversion while the government continues to put guns
—-and drugs in the black community for simple black men to use on each other.
—-While the bodies continue to pile up, the white man will say, “What excuse are
—-the ni**ers gonna use now?”.
I agree that most black people are viewing him as the messiah and are excepting him to make drastic changes. BTW he never do actually go in full details as to what those changes are going to be. Anyways it is a historical moment, but let’s not worship this man. Well said Judah.

@#47 I think you and Judah would be hard pressed to find anyone, who would think that Barack is their savior.GOD is irreplaceable.Barack is just a man,he can’t stop confusion, drug or gun use in our communities, all of these ills are individual choices.Barack has overcome poverty, ignorance, and racism, and now he is in position to overcome the notion that a Black Man can’t lead a nation effectively.Does this mean that a black president will turn South Central LA into Beverly Hills, absolutely not,and one would be foolish to think so.Rich and poor, smart and dumb, right and wrong, good and evil were here long before Barack, but if you were to hear this man speak at a rally, you will begin to think that CHANGE toward the positive is possible.Has Barack inspired people to get out and vote? The answer is yes,and for the first time ever in the history of this country, people like #20’s dad can say, all I when through wasn’t in vain.

@SMH…Hillary’s actions at the very least tell me that she does not respect Black People’s significant historic moment. To have an African American representing a major political party is nothing to sneeze at, given the brutal history of Blacks in America. And for her to not even give it a glance, like it’s not significant is to spit in the face of every Black person in America. And to make her actions are racist like. Calling a spade a spade!!!!!
What would you call it?

@55 You know what you calling me ignorant and stupid really goes to show you what kind of a person you truly are. Looking down at me doesn’t make you smarter nor better. Look some people can’t deal with defeat. Hillary one of those people. You know that because if she had any sense she would’ve been dropped out. So now you think she just going to turn around and jump up and down about him winning because he is a black man? If Hilllary was to win the nomination you probably wouldn’t be jumping up and down for her because her winning too is a historical moment as well. So does that make you a misogynist? Me personally I thought she should address he’s winning but I can understand why she didn’t. Give her some credit, she has in the past speeches how if he wins this would be historical moment. Look just because she isn’t getting on the bandwagon doesn’t mean she is racist. Quit being so sensitive.

@#63 You make a very good point, anyone can spray paint do-do and say its gold.Trust is not one of my better qualities either. In the aftermath of the 2004 election, and how nearly 5 million black folk got duped, into voting for a trustworthy and experienced George Bush,I think the voting black public will be wiser with our choice in 2008.I support Barack,I made my choice from my gut.I heard his speech at the dnc convention in 2004,and CNN did a brief bio on him and found out this brotha graduated from Harvard.Harvard and brothas don’t mix,if a brotha is into the ivy-league thing, The University of Chicago would be a safer choice, and why politics? What could he gain in politics that he couldn’t in the business world unless he was being real and true to himself.I honestly feel that if he is elected,he will be the best president in history, because EVERY BLACK PERSON to be the first anything in WHITE AMERICA will have so many eyes, and ears just waiting for them to eff up, and we triumph every time with a style and grace, that makes anyone proud.Lastly ANY brotha that graduates from Harvard that can retain enough blackness to Dap his wife off,is Kool Moe Dee with me!
