POLITICS: IT’S OVER AND THE WINNER IS…
Wednesday, June 4, 2008

On Tuesday, Sen. Barack Obama claimed the Democratic presidential nomination following an epic battle with Sen. Hillary Clinton.
Barack Obama’s speech in Minnesota
With a victory in the Montana Democratic primary, Obama captured the 2,118 delegates needed to be nominated at the party’s convention in August. After the polls closed in Montana and South Dakota, the Obama campaign also announced the endorsement of 26.5 superdelegates.
This marks, as the Obama campaign quoted the Washington Post, “an historic achievement that for the first time will place an African American at the top of a major political party’s ticket“.
“You chose to listen not to your doubts or your fears, but to your greatest hopes and highest aspirations,” Obama declared in his speech in St. Paul. “Tonight, we mark the end of one historic journey with the beginning of another — a journey that will bring a new and better day to America. Because of you, tonight, I can stand before you and say that I will be the Democratic nominee for president of the United States.”
Hillary Clinton’s speech in New York
During a speech to supporters in New York, Clinton commended Obama and acknowledged her path to the nomination had closed. However, she did not leave the race.
Clinton won South Dakota’s Democratic primary and during her speech, commented that she had received nearly 18 million votes. “Even when the pundits and the naysayers proclaimed week after week that this race was over, you kept on voting.”
“Now, the question is, Where do we go from here, and given how far we’ve come and where we need to go as a party, it’s a question I don’t take lightly,” Clinton said. “This has been a long campaign, and I will be making no decisions tonight.”
She said she’d be speaking with party officials about her next move and also presented her case that she was the stronger candidate and argued she had won the popular vote.
According to a source on a conference call earlier Tuesday with Clinton and NY lawmakers, Clinton said she would be interested in serving as Obama’s running mate. The Clinton campaign, however, says she merely said she would do whatever is in the party’s best interest. The source added that everyone on the call thought Clinton needed to be on the ticket.

I am so proud……It is time for a change. McCain is 4 more years of Bush and no matter what people say in front of the media, behind closed doors they are tired of it too. I want fresh and new and Obama is just that. Sorry but I think he has a better chance w/o Hillary (for some reason I dont think she could stay in her lane and Bill will continue to put his foot in his mouth) JMHO

What a blessing to look up and see light! Obama I am praying for you and your family. This is a great victory for our people. Now roll up them sleeves and get ready for a race that will be filled with lies and strategic attacks. However, I will stand to be a supporter… every American should stand and support you. I just really believe that this is a change we can trust. Congradulations.

Last night’s speech was so moving. I just LOVE how Michelle mouthed the words “I Love You” to him after his speech. They are such a strong couple who does not mind showing affection to one another.
Still on the fence about this whole Hillary for VP thing though…

I saw both speeches and I was disappointed in Hillary not congratulating Obama on clinching the nomination. HISTORY was made last night!!!!!! All she did was congratulate him on a ‘well-run campaign’ and then went on to talk about herself. He was so gracious towards her in his speech. Anyway…
CONGRATULATIONS OBAMA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YES WE CAN!!!!!

I agree # 29. I’m disappointed in Hillary too. Obama’s speech was great! He talked about everyone but himself. Hillary only talked about herself as expected. After the way she’s been acting she does not deserve the VP spot.

While we are getting excited we need to be brigning unity amongst our race. We can’t preach this pro-black thing only when a black man is running for president.
We can’t only dislike non-blacks whena black man is running fro president.
Him being in the office does not gurantee a 360 in our community and now we’re all perfect, no we still have gaps and bridges in our community that needs to be fixed.
Obama will do his part as in to helping us financially, but we have to work on the other things, like the crime, the black men vs. black women war of the genders thing that was still going on when he was running in the domocratic race. Black women against black women, all of that is still existing and as long as we’re divided then him being president will not benefit completely.
We can’t go “Ha! In you face white man/white woman only for this time?
Where was the “Black unity” weeks, months, years ago?
Black people a black president will mean nothing if WE DON’T GET IT TOGTHER”!

So there we have it. I’m still delighted I’m alive to witness this!
On another note, that shrew Hillary has lots of nerve to try and put O in the position to approach her and offer her any VP slot.
How dare she not even concede or admit to defeat, yet come out making comments about accepting a VP position. Bill was beet red yesterday, probably half-dead from high blood pressure dealing with that selfish, power hungry she-devil who just won’t quit.
I hope Obama doesn’t consider Hillary for shyt. She isn’t to be trusted.

Obama….The first of many!!!!! this man has made me so proud! we need to put him on a $75 bill or something.lol….i love Obama!!!!!! but idk if i want hilary for president. i personally believe her decisions for running this far was to seperate the party the party even more! mathematically there’s no way she could’ve won! and i really wish she would quit with this popular vote crap fl. didn’t count baby it was illegal and michigan wasn’t even on the ballad! besides i don’t think she’s content with being behind the scenes. their views would certainly clash!

Bill…. it was actually 17,000 in the arena and another 15,000 outside. This guy is a rock star. And what a sore loser Hillary has proven to be? To use a basketball analogy here: it’s like she has fouled out of the game and refuses to leave the court.
At first, I was thinking that Obama might need Hillary on his ticket in order to have a shot at the White House. But after watching this democratic race, is the more and more she appears too polarizing and has become a pariah across party lines, to be much of an asset. She would derail Obama’s campaign in the same manner Bill Clinton derailed hers. So it’s best if Obama leave her right the hell where she is and seek somebody else. How things are going, Obama can choose a goat as his running mate and still whip McCain’s ass.
All fun and joke aside: Obama doesn’t need Hillary! Forget the 18 million voters on the table…those who didn’t vote for Obama in the caucuses will not vote for him in the national election. Why? Because they are not color blind. When they look at Obama, they don’t see his accomplishments and his competence; all they see is race. And it is inconceivable in their minds to have a Black man be the leader of the “free world.” So those votes should be written off.
The are the categories Obama is losing in: white seniors, whites with no college education, and Puerto Ricans. So, in other words, he is losing the support of racist old farts, the illiterate and the delusional, respectively. But don’t fret; with an historic turn out of Blacks coupled with the young white college educated, Obama will win the presidency.
So whether Hillary is on the ticket or not, what Obama needs is for Black People to come together for this final push, get off their ass a vote this November.

I am extremely proud. Proud to the point of being speechless. What gives me so much pride is the fact that Obama and his wife have this sincere, non-compromizing quality that is infectious. His speech was simply human. I cant see how anyone could not have seen the American spirit in him. McCain, to me, seemed very non-American. His focus seemed to be on his party and his supporters, instead of the country. he came off as apathetic. And of course, he was boring as all out doors. Typical McCain character. Hilary….wow. Is she delusional? Very arrogant. Very self-oriented. I was not impressed…At all!

Im absolutely excited and so proud of Senator Obama. Yes We Can! This is truly history in the making. Plus, is it me or does Michelle Obama gives you this Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis (with her classic style)/ Eleanor Roosevelt (intelligence & political activism) aura which comes across so effortless. She is going to make an amazing First Lady. She always gives me this “I’m a classical lady, but come to me correct or not at all vibe” too (which I love)..The epitome of class and decorum (both of them) Congrats to them!
