POLITICS: PUERTO RICO DEMOCRATIC PRIMARY RECAP
Monday, June 2, 2008

Sen. Hillary Clinton won another lopsided victory over Sen. Barack Obama in Sunday’s Puerto Rico Democratic primary. With 68 percent of the vote, Clinton gained 38 delegates. Obama gained 17, moving him closer to the Democratic nomination with only 47 more needed.
Clinton thanked Puerto Rico for her victory and added: “More people across the country have voted for our campaign. More people have voted for us than for any candidate in the history of presidential politics. We are winning the popular vote. Now there can be no doubt. The people have spoken, you have chosen your candidate.”
At a campaign rally in Mitchell, S.D., Obama said he had called Clinton to congratulate her, adding: “Senator Clinton is an outstanding public servant, she has worked tirelessly during this campaign … and she is going to be a great asset when we go into November.”
During her victory speech, Clinton also remarked that with the final two contests remaining in South Dakota and Montana on Tuesday, there will not be a nominee as she leads the popular vote and Obama leads in delegates.
“When the voting concludes on Tuesday, neither Sen. Obama nor I will have the number of delegates to be the nominee. I will lead the popular vote, he will maintain a slight lead in the delegate count. The decision will fall on the shoulders of those leaders in our party, empowered by the rules, to vote at the Democratic convention.”
In an interview with the NY Times, Clinton argued that in a few days, “I will have won the most votes — more than anyone in the history of the primary process…And we’re going to have to make our case to the automatic so-called superdelegates. And I think my case is clear — more than 17 million people voted for me. In recent primary history, we have never nominated someone who has not won the popular vote.”
She also responded to the Democratic leadership’s recent urge to make a decision quickly: “I know that people are hopeful that we get a nominee, and we will,” she said. “But I don’t think it’s as important to do it fast as it is to do it well.”
Obama’s campaign responded that both Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton have gotten more votes than any presidential campaign in primary history. Bill Burton, Obama’s spokesman, added, “We are, however, ahead in the popular vote now and suspect will be ahead when all of the votes are counted Tuesday. That’s not taking anything away from what she’s accomplished. It’s just a fact.”

#15 You should do your homework on Hilary - she is the phony. Just because Obama didn’t bring out her dirt doesn’t mean McCain won’t. I’m guessing Hilary’s campaign has been spending all their money trying to find dirt on Obama, and all they can come up with is he’s inexperienced. He’s a senator just like she is so I don’t see why that would be a problem. All that’s left is Rev. Wright, but he’s not running for president

Puerto Ricans have chosen who they want to represent them in the same manner Kentucky did; where 5:1 said they voted based on race. And there is nothing wrong with that; this is a democratic society and people should vote their conscience. What this has shown me as a Black man is, Black People cannot look to any other ethnic groups for help. I said ethnic groups because, contrary to popular belief, hispanics or latino/a is not a race. There are only three races Black, White and the Yellow race. And I guarantee if you ask any hispanic, male or female, which race they belong to, they would find every other color on the color spectrum to associate themselves with but Black; even though, they themselves might be as black as midnight (I have seen some people in DR blacker than people from the Congo, who do not consider themselves black). So yeah, they might act like they’re with us and are down for our causes when they are around Black People but when in private i.e. a voting booth with the curtains close; their true intentions will come out.

Dukesman2000,
They never were. Like I said they are obsessive about YT worship. They hate their Africaness with a passion while they munch on plaintains, dance to the congo drum beat and practice Yoruba and other African customs….ALL THINGS FROM AFRICA!
I can understand the Mexicans because its not a large part of their culture, but all the other Latinos seem to think we all forgot the more slaves were dumped on their islands their in the US..there was only 5% brought to the US. Even Arnold Sschwanegger let them know when he made that latin and black blood comment regarding the Puerto Ricans and Cubans.
So with all that being said, I am not fazed by them because they have not seen what YT has for them yet. Why you think Gangland on AE is showing all this stuff about Mexican and Latino gangs all of a sudden. He WILL put you in your “place” be it with the notorious justice system, drugs in your community ( already started) and/ or constant media explotiation. So while they are siding with them they better be watching their back. Never mind they will continue to be owned since its all they know.

This is why I laugh at these hispanics that come onto sites like this, or just in general, and think that they can tell me or any other black person how to feel. The majority of them are two-faced to blacks and extremely subservient to whites.

For people to sit here and put down another race because they are not voting the way that you feel they should is very ignorant. I am always interested in what people need to say in this forum because I value peoples opinions and like to see things in a diffrent prospective but when you sit here and call whites honkeys and put down Puerto Ricans you are encouraging what you have fought to stop for many years. How would you feel if you went into a blog where every other comment was f*ck them Nigg*rs. F*ck Obama. I am Puerto Rican and I do pay respect to all the races that make me who I am black, taino indian and Spaniard. Yes the vote of the island does not count but there are just as may Puerto Ricans that support Obama in the states and want to see change. So please do not base your opinion on what the media portrays and putting other races down does not make you look better just stupid.

I agree with Lost Ur Mind and think that we should question ourself when we say that Latino’s are self hating(which some are) when some black people are a little self hating. I do believe that a lot of the voting was racially motivated but I also don’t think we can group all latinos together. I am dissapointed in Puerto Rico though.

Wow, what a pathetic ass argument from the morons who post here. Every race takes things from every culture, please STOP acting like every other races gets everything in their culture from blacks. And if you didn’t know, Puerto Rico doesn’t speak for the rest of the Latin world. And then you only throw racist comments at both Hispanic and Whites. You’re only contributing to what you’re fighting against: Racism. WTF. Obviously we think with out asses instead our heads nowadays to not see how hypocritical we really are. What about black people who voted for Hilary, are they traitors?BTW I didn’t vote for her. LOL!!!! What make you think that Obama is going to actually change anything? All politicians tell you what you want to here and then fail to live up to there promises, so what makes you think he or any other candidate is going to do anytihing different? I’m not Obama bashing, but all I’m saying is that people need to quit getting upset and name calling at people just because they don’t like Obama. It’s ridiculous and it’s selfish. It’s really saddens me to see some of my people act like a bunch of children over this. Tanisha everthing you said was the truth and I love the that you came with facts and historical information and not just opinion. I have long felt that all the Carribean latinos were very into self hating but it has been covered up by their so-called “pride” for their island. Total BS.
Now Ms. Dynomite, ignorance about one candidate is no excuse to vote for a particular candidate, so all that wisdom you claim PRs to have is apparently not the case. Face the fact that your people have built their heritage on the racism that has been fed to them by their Spanish slave master and they are essentially still slaves.

Sorry IMO, this is not about black folks needing Latinos to grovel to them or vote the way the want them to vote. We are not interest in this supreme race stuff. No one needs to be the supreme race in this country. Black people want black to be seen as equal and not a defect. Latinos have been taught their African heritage is a defect that they must hide or cover with obsessiveness for the Spanish culture, which by in large was forced upon their people in such a horrific way.
Secondly, is about the very apparent racism that has been in Latin America for a long azz time and now its really showing its head. That is the fact. Your people need a real mental revolution to be free, so don’t try to nickel and dime this situation. Latinos are racist as hell as it is what it is. Its sad that they are that way since a large number of them from the Carribean are mixed ( current or multigenerationally ) or black.

Do you know the definition of those words? I didn’t say all black people love the Clintons. The majority do though. A lot of black people did say that Bill Clinton was our first black President. Also, a lot of black people did vote for Hilliary. Many in our community have deep love and respect for the Clintons. Especially after that whole Monica thing. He’s a pimp! Bill’s my n****a! @59 I’ll ask you the same thing” Who said I was a Latino? Second, it does sound like you want them to grovel at us. You don’t think black people aren’t racist? This post alone shows that some are. It’s funny how are people hate for us to be put in one category or stereotyped and yet that’s what the majority of us do including you. You say Latinos are racist and hate us.Why is it always that we always play the victim of racism but yet when we say something racist it’s justifiable? Not all Latinos or Whites think they’re better than us. Why is it that you only want to see the bad in other races but want the other races to see the good in us? There’s been things we have did that we shouldn’t be proud of but we sweep that under the rug and point out the problems of the other races. There’s been so many racist remarks been made on this post alone but you feel what I said is racist and hurtful. SMH.
