Sen. Hillary Clinton won another lopsided victory over Sen. Barack Obama in Sunday’s Puerto Rico Democratic primary. With 68 percent of the vote, Clinton gained 38 delegates. Obama gained 17, moving him closer to the Democratic nomination with only 47 more needed.
Clinton thanked Puerto Rico for her victory and added: “More people across the country have voted for our campaign. More people have voted for us than for any candidate in the history of presidential politics. We are winning the popular vote. Now there can be no doubt. The people have spoken, you have chosen your candidate.”
At a campaign rally in Mitchell, S.D., Obama said he had called Clinton to congratulate her, adding: “Senator Clinton is an outstanding public servant, she has worked tirelessly during this campaign … and she is going to be a great asset when we go into November.”
During her victory speech, Clinton also remarked that with the final two contests remaining in South Dakota and Montana on Tuesday, there will not be a nominee as she leads the popular vote and Obama leads in delegates.
“When the voting concludes on Tuesday, neither Sen. Obama nor I will have the number of delegates to be the nominee. I will lead the popular vote, he will maintain a slight lead in the delegate count. The decision will fall on the shoulders of those leaders in our party, empowered by the rules, to vote at the Democratic convention.”
In an interview with the NY Times, Clinton argued that in a few days, “I will have won the most votes — more than anyone in the history of the primary process…And we’re going to have to make our case to the automatic so-called superdelegates. And I think my case is clear — more than 17 million people voted for me. In recent primary history, we have never nominated someone who has not won the popular vote.”
She also responded to the Democratic leadership’s recent urge to make a decision quickly: “I know that people are hopeful that we get a nominee, and we will,” she said. “But I don’t think it’s as important to do it fast as it is to do it well.”
Obama’s campaign responded that both Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton have gotten more votes than any presidential campaign in primary history. Bill Burton, Obama’s spokesman, added, “We are, however, ahead in the popular vote now and suspect will be ahead when all of the votes are counted Tuesday. That’s not taking anything away from what she’s accomplished. It’s just a fact.”

Watch as soon as Obama gets the nomination all those mulatto and black hispanics or latinos will be claim their blackness then. Broke down users.
Preach Tanisha!
IMO …I am confused. So its ok to be racist for the mere folly of it but its not ok to call it out? You are so fully of it. Please keep it moving with your fake sentiments.
@59,60 I see you read my comment but didn’t comprehend.
@60 Who said I was a Latino? If you would’ve read my comment with comprehension you would see that I’m not a Latino.SMH. Second, what did I say that was racist or stereotypical? Do you know the definition of those words? I didn’t say all black people love the Clintons. The majority do though. A lot of black people did say that Bill Clinton was our first black President. Also, a lot of black people did vote for Hilliary. Many in our community have deep love and respect for the Clintons. Especially after that whole Monica thing. He’s a pimp! Bill’s my n****a! (etc) So please quit trying to make a case with me when you don’t even have a leg to stand on. Peace.
@59 I’ll ask you the same thing” Who said I was a Latino? Second, it does sound like you want them to grovel at us. You don’t think black people aren’t racist? This post alone shows that some are. It’s funny how are people hate for us to be put in one category or stereotyped and yet that’s what the majority of us do including you. You say Latinos are racist and hate us.Why is it always that we always play the victim of racism but yet when we say something racist it’s justifiable? Not all Latinos or Whites think they’re better than us. Why is it that you only want to see the bad in other races but want the other races to see the good in us? There’s been things we have did that we shouldn’t be proud of but we sweep that under the rug and point out the problems of the other races. There’s been so many racist remarks been made on this post alone but you feel what I said is racist and hurtful. SMH. Oh, that’s because those comments were towards the Puerto Ricans and not toward us so it doesn’t matter. As soon I say it’s wrong to do so then you want to call yourself putting to me in my place.
@63 That comment didn’t even look legible so I’m not even going to waste my time on it. SMH. It won’t hurt to spell/ grammar check your work. LOL!!
WOW, you all left me speechless!!! Some of us need to get it together on the real!
Oh, I was very clear. You understood what I said. Sweetie, I am fluent in Spanish and French.
As much as you American Hispanics butcher Spanish AND English, I know you are not one to talk. LOL.
You just have no response because you know its the truth. Acting like you are an English professor just so you don’t have to respond is not an excuse. You must not have read your previous posts that you butchered. Chile please.
Mike J what left me speechless is that you decided typing that comment added something relevant to the discussion. Your pseudo-judgment stance only benefits you.
Wow you guys! You’re still going at it! Honestly, I didn’t know who I would vote for at first, but Michelle Obama said that all black people want is a chance and that’s so true. Just plain equal opportunity. I’m sure PRs want the same, right? That speech Obama made on race was the best speech I’ve heard in a long while, and because of it, I will always be an Obama supporter no matter what.
Go Obama! Hillary, please don’t ruin it for the women of the future.
Politics…. the new greek tragedy!
@67 HAHA!!! Your ignorance rings so loudly that it is starting to hurt my ears. Once again who said I was Latino? I’m black you idiot. Comprehension is lacking in our community I see. SMH. I guess I should be impress about you being able to speak two different languages but obviously failed in English. I had about two typos but certainly not as much as yours did. I noticed you took you time and made sure your comment was legible this time around. LOL!!! BTW I love how your racist overtones against Hispanics just keep pouring out. LOL!!!
WAKE UP BLACK PEOPLE!! Many Hispanics are racist. Why do you think a huge part of their culture includes denying their African heritage? yet BLACK PEOPLE CONTINUE TO PROVIDE LATINOS WITH OPPORTUNITIES THAT THEY WOULD NEVER GIVE US. Some latinos even admitted that their vote for Hillary was really about voting AGAINST OBAMA. Plus, many latinos refer to themselves as WHITE.
LATINOS ARE ABLE TO USE US AND PROFIT FROM OUR CULTURE BECAUSE MANY AFRICAN- AMERICANS DON’T REALIZE HOW BLACK PEOPLE ARE TREATED IN THESE LATIN COUNTRIES . The CIVIL RIGHTS MOVEMENT DID NOT TAKE PLACE IN THOSE COUNTRIES. however,Latinos in AMERICA ARE ABLE TO LIVE BETTER LIVES BECAUSE OF THE CIVIL RIGHTS MOVEMENT!!!!!!!!!
this is not about hating hispanics. Its about LOVING AND SUPPORTING OURSELVES AS BLACK PEOPLE WORLDWIDE. Much Respect TO TANISHA FOR THE FACTS. I WISH MORE BLACK PEOPLE WOULD EDUCATE THEMSELVES ON HOW BLACK PEOPLE ARE VIEWED AND TREATED IN OTHER COUNTRIES!!!! IF YOU KNEW THE REAL DEAL, YOU WOULD DEFINITELY HAVE A GREATER APPRECIATION FOR CIVIL RIGHTS ACTIVISTS!!!
YOU WOULD UNDERSTAND THAT IN THOSE COUNTRIES THERE IS BLATANT RACISM. BLACK PEOPLE LIVING IN LATINO, SOUTH AMERICAN COUNTRIES CAN NOT REALLY DO ANYTHING ABOUT THE DISCRIMINATION THEY FACE ON A REGULAR BASIS.
IMO, I could care less if you are purple with orange stripes and a tail.
Your goal is to spin this to an argument about grammatical correctness and who makes the most typing errors on a damn gossip site as if we are entering a scholar contest when you should try to stay relevant to the topic at hand. Face it your point is pointless, so its easier to waste time on fluff.
@74 How is it my goal to spin this about grammar when all I said is that your comment didn’t look legible,(IMO which is the one that matters in this situation) so I wasn’t going to address it. You got all upset and came on here trying to correct me and my grammar talking about “I speak Spanish and French fluently.” If you can careless about the color of my skn then why did my race come up in your comment? Even going as far as trying to insult me and my race. You’re the one talking fluff and inaccurate. My point fall death to your ears is because you either lack comprehension. A racist. Or too incompetent to come up with an educated thought. Look you don’t have anything interesting to say, so go sit down and stop wasting your time talking to me, and move on. I’m just going to assume you have something better to do.
THERE ARE OVER 130 LATINO CABLE STATIONS.
THERE ARE ONLY 2 BLACK ONES, BET (no longer black- owned) & TV ONE!!!!
Why was it necessary for BET to hire Julissa and Rocsi (latinas) to host 106&park?
DO YOU SEE ANY BLACK PEOPLE HOSTING ANY SHOWS ON LATIN NETWORKS??
@76 There’s a show on Si Tv which is Latino station called the “The Rub” and a black guy is a co-host on the show. I applaud BET for hiring Latinas. Why is that such a bad thing? Just because they don’t means we have to be just as ignorant as them? I say if you’re qualifed it shouldn’t matter your race is even if it is a station that cater to a certain demographic. We need to quit all this vouluntary segeration crap we are doing, because obviously it isn’t working. We might as well try to get along now seeing that we have to deal with one another anyways.
JULISSA & ROSCI WERE NOT HIRED TO HOST 106&PARK BECAUSE THEY ARE QUALIFIED. BET HAS FOLLOWED THE MUSIC VIDEO TREND OF PUTTING LATIN WOMEN IN FRONT OF THE CAMERA PLAYING LEAD ROLES NEXT TO BLACK MEN. NOW HOLLYWOOD FILMS ARE DOING THE SAME.
I didn’t say they were qualified. There’s nothing wrong with what BET did.
from 78
THIS IS WHY BLACK WOMEN MUST PROTEST,WRITE LETTERS OR EMAILS TO TV, RADIO STATIONS AND ARTISTS WEBSITES WHEN YOU ARE NOT BEING REPRESENTED
REMAINING SILENT HAS ONLY MADE THINGS WORST!!!
You guys have all lost your mind!!! I’m Hispanic and there is no way you can categorize Latinos into one. PR voted for Hillary simply because she’s a NY senator and NY has the biggest PR population in the states. That is all!!! Blame the media if Obama didn’t get the right amount of votes. Most Latin stations manipulate their viewers feeding them whatever they want mostly because there’s only so many Spanish speaking channels to get your news and information from and they are all mostly familiar with the Clintons, end of story.
I’m Dominican at least speaking from my country, we do embrace our African heritage, some don’t but we do have African music called “El Palo” and Cuba does have their own as well, so don’t make assumptions about Latinos as a whole because then you’re just being ignorant. It’s funny because some of you want to complain about this but then bitch and whine about other races taking your men and embracing your culture.
This is the reason why some blacks never advance, they’re too busy worrying about other people. I came to this country as an immigrant speaking no English and I’m very successful now. There is no excuse for anyone to blame anybody for their destiny but themselves. Try living in a third world country and then come talk to me about struggle. That is the reason why I made it, not because I owed anybody a damn thing. This is the land of opportunity and I damn right made sure I took advantage of it.
@81 I agree and this is a black person talking to you.
#81 we hear you. We just wanted to point out that there isn’t one race that actually like black people. Not one. We are hated everywhere. It would be nice to go somewhere and get the same respect as others regardless of the color of my skin. I’m not going to say anyone here is right because you all raise good points.
We’re glad you embrace your African culture, but most don’t. We can blame the media, but the media also let us know that the Latinos in LA are killing people just for being black. The only black Nascar driver was racially taunted in Spain, and a black woman was tortured by some red necks. We already have to put up with shit from whites but you guys too? What did we do to you? We know all of you aren’t that way. I’m one of the only blacks at my job and man the whites at my job are great. But they aren’t so great where my dad works and where my boyfriend works. We may be enjoying our jobs but there are a lot who are suffering at work and it sucks.
We’re sorry but sometimes blacks just lose hope. If we had the same opportunities and the same paychecks for what we were worth, then maybe we wouldn’t be so angry and hateful. I’m a black woman, so I already have 2 strikes against me. We’re glad you made it, but wouldn’t it be nice to see others make it that are worth just as much as your are regardless of their color?
WHY DID THE DOMINICANS HAVE LITTLE BLACK HAITIAN KIDS WORKING AS SLAVES IN THEIR SUGAR CANE FIELDS ?!!!!
@84
Lewis,
Lil kids all over the world work out of necessity, there are no laws preventing that like here in the US. My apologies if I offend anyone but Haiti has been going through a major crisis for years. Just like Mexicans are exploited here because they might be illegal immigrants, the same happens to Haitians in the island of Hispaniola. The same happens to Pakistanis in the Middle East. So what is your point? It is not because they come from a black race but the truth is that even though DR is doing a little better economically, Haitians suffer because the jobs they get in DR are the ones Dominicans don’t want to do so out of necessity, they do them. A lot of Haitians doing the crappy jobs entered DR illegally anyway. Dominicans go through the same thing in Spain, where they can travel without a visa, just like PRs do here. In Spain, Dominicans get exploited and are considered the worst because they are the minority there.
I understand your suffering and frustration, but try to look past it and make good out of it instead of expressing anger. That is the best revenge if you ask me. Look at Oprah, look at Obama, they didn’t get there because they felt sorry for themselves, they made it because they made the race issue irrelevant (as hard as it might be) in their minds and kept it moving. He who laughs last laughs loudest.
Oh and by the way, most people think I’m black, I have caramel skin lol
82 and 83, I appreciate your comments.
Like Obama says, embrace change, just because you move to a better neighborhood or want to attend a good school, doesn’t mean you’re selling out because you’re leaving the hood. Just because you’d rather read a book than go shake your booty at the club doesn’t mean you’re different, you’re just following your destiny. Life is only one and you have to make th best of it. It is hard to lose focus when you have many let downs and distractions but trust me, it is possible.
Think about the laws of attraction. What you think in your mind is usually what you end up getting. It was a life long dream of mine to make six figures (because I didn’t want to end up staying with a man in order to survive) and here I am! The Secret is a book I love and I think everyone should read it.
IMO = MS. DYNOMITE = Bitter Puerto Rican Chickenhead
@ TANISHA, you nailed it!
@87 You are such feeble person.
DR Vixen,
Please spare us. …..
I can you assume that blacks do not advance….based on watching BET, watching SoulPlane or Baby Boy, the nightly news or the people in your neighborhood? Ma’am, please take a trip to Atlanta,Charlotte, Dallas, Savannah, Houston, etc. where there are African Americans prospering by the truckloads that you and all your “efforts” will never see.
I just love when “immigrants” act like they got where they are only off of any their efforts. No you got it from the blood, sweat and tears of the civil rights movements and the constant fight that African Americans put forward for equality and respect for all minorities to this day. Usually the same minorioties will sell African Americans up the river to YT after using the opportunities they have fought for them to have. This is what we are talking about here regarding this “election” in PR. So you can save the speech about your achievements as if that is to say our dialogue is not relevant because we are just complaining and being racist. If you don’t like it then go to the Dominician related sites.
Oh and by the way, most people think I’m black, I have caramel skin lol
82 and 83, I appreciate your comments.
Newsflash…”sista” you are black. You just had a Spanish slave master.
African Americans tend to be multigenerationally mixed and so are you. We are not that different so to conclude that people “think” you are black ( since you say you have caramel skin) is an oxymoron.
Your culture and your blackness are not one in the same.
This is the kind of tomfoolery we are talking about.
Tanisha, I appreciate your comments. I agree with you, girl.
*sigh* Tanisha, I am NOT just black. Just because the Spaniards decided to bring slaves to my island and decided to kill all of the native Taino indians does not mean I can ONLY claim my black side. I have all 3 in my blood. That is all you see unfortunately, I however embrace all of it because it is my culture. I was not raised on black culture. My mom does not speak anything but Spanish, we eat rice and beans, we dance Merengue etc., and if that is not good enough for you then my apologies, but I love my culture and that is all I know so don’t try to undermine it simply because it’s not black enough for you. Don’t assume that I haven’t been to the hood either, I was raised there. I had struggles just like you did and the language barrier was not easy so don’t think I had it easy, you were already ahead of the game at that point. I dealt with black kids acting like I was below them just because I was an “immigrant” like you say. I was raised by a single mother on welfare with 3 kids so don’t tell me about struggle.
I’ve been to Atlanta and DC and I do know that black people advance tremendously, it’s those that decide to hold on to a mentality passed on from generation to generation that remain stuck. And by saying that people think that I am black, I meant African-American. I am not African-American, I am Dominican, that is my nationality. I embrace everything through my nationality and my culture and one’s culture is more than just race.
So are you telling me that only African-Americans struggle in this country? What do you leave the Mexicans who come to this country (illegally or not) to make a better living and guess what, they are discriminated against more by African-Americans than anyone else out there and are treated like, you guessed it, slaves.
“It goes to show us Black People, that in the final analysis, hispanics are not with us.”
duke man this is a biased statement!!!!
I am Dominican and most Domincians vote for Obama (my parents for hillary like many black women and older black people) and most people in Loiza and Bayamon (black areas of P Rico) voted for Obama…40% came from these two areas. Most white looking Puerto Ricans even floated a flyer saying do you want your president looking too Dominican!!!’
Most thought of Clinton as a black president and followed African americans and thought voting for Hillary would be like having Bill back in power like my parents. Plus his name being muslim like doesnt speak much to Catholic Latinos!!! half of the island is BLACK!! Afro Caribbeaqn like salsa, poleros, merengue, ets….Tego CAlderon who says he is black first and Rican second…no what you are talking about.
Also most
Ricans didnt vote on an island of 4 million 200 thousand voted cause they cant vote in Nov. and dont care…plus the ones in the states like the P rican governor support Obama….no the facts before you make statements like that…did you go to duke..that school has a ery racist history I go to an HBCU in the same city!!!! NCCU getting my masters!
To all you racists hating on Latinos like myself No Fu Ni FA! a onde es su abuela?? Fin out what that means and where it comes from in our culture.
AND DON’T GET ME STARTED ON DOMINICANS-SPANISH-HAITIANS IS WHAT THEY REALLY ARE. AT LEAST PUERTO RICANS ADMIT TO HAVING BLACK BLOOD, UNLIKE THE SPANISH HAITIANS.
To Denise for this statement above there are two cultures on the island of Hispaniola Haitian and Dominican two completely different cultures. I am Dominican and proud and have African and Taino (Indian blood) and Spanish blood. Haitians are French and mostly purely Black and still treat light skin Haitians better than dark skin and wont even speak creole only French to separate themselves from poor dark Haitians Spare me the poor picked on Haitians crap! Many don’t like African Americans and think their culture is ghetto and uncivilized.
Also Haitians who are black…many support Clinton and vote REPUBLICAN in Florida. We don’t hate Hatiains because they are black …We hate how Haitians are treated by the Us and blaming us for racism when we provide for Haitians when the US deports them ignores them (due to racism) yet they blame US!!! The Clintons helped deport all Haitians and vote Republican because of it especially after Bill Clinton put Aristide in power!! Dominicans vote democrat and there is a huge group called Dominicans for Obama…there are reaggaeton songs for pete sake. I am mixed myself not fully black and don’t denounce my African ancestry.
I am amazed at the racist statements by dukeman, denise, NYK..about this Hillary wins PR BS..there were only 200 thousand who voted for Hillary the other 50,000 voted for Obama (mostly from Black Towns in Puerto Rico why don’t you go there many act more African than many folks in the states music, food, culture, and dress wise)…62% to 38%…Most didn’t know about him like many older African Americans because of his Muslim name and don’t know much about him like my father. WOW I am shocked by some of these ignorant un-researced victim role statements.. Most Puerto Ricans thought Hillary was like voting for minorities..after the “First Black President” Bill Clinton…and yes I am a Obama supporter.
DR Vixen (hermana como tu ta? an african expresion in Spanish) me and my Yoruba Nigerian girlfriend agree with you 100%. I am one semester form a masters degree and wonder why some people wine and complain they cant this and that because fo racism…yet I am about to get my masters. Obama did the same and didnt bitch and complain about everything..
Ni fu Ni Fa “Tego Calderon”
YOU LATINOS REALLY BELIEVE WE ARE ALL LAZY BLACK AMERICANS ON WELFARE????!!!!
YOU ARE ABLE LIVE IN THE US IN PEACE BECAUSE OF BLACK PEOPLE WHO DID MORE THAN COMPLAIN DURING THE CIVIL RIGHTS MOVEMENT!!!!!!!!
YOU LATINOS REALLY BELIEVE WE ARE ALL LAZY BLACK AMERICANS ON WELFARE????!!!!
YOU ARE ABLE TO LIVE IN THE US IN PEACE BECAUSE OF BLACK PEOPLE WHO DID MORE THAN COMPLAIN DURING THE CIVIL RIGHTS MOVEMENT!!!!!!!!
Us Latinos know Puerto Ricans who are lazy and on welfare and many whites in trailer parks and blacks on welfare in other words it could be anyone. You cant blame anyone for your demise but yourself what you think me getting to this point was easy?? My popi 75 fought to have a business while others were complaining and if it wasn’t for him alot of blacks wouldn’t have the kind of success in Virginia. The civil rights movement was not your generation ,nor Obama’s, 35 years ago…yeah blacks did it….what now it is 2008??? Can you blame the white man for everything now?? What about if Obama wins?? When are folks of any race going to take responsibility for their actions I had to WORK for what I have thanks to my parents I got it.
ok first of all, i am black white and latino…those three are ethnic backgrounds not races…it is true that some latinos dont embrace their “blackness” but it is because they have their own culture…black americans talkin about african americans need to know their connection to africa when they dont know shit about africa.my dad is puerto rican and i dont know him but i hang around latinos and i have never been descriminated against by latinos many of the boys of that culture hit on me because i am a pretty carmel skin like them and i can get my hair really straight(naturally curly but relaxed) i feel the dominican girl simply because i understand what she is sayin and blacks need to stop complaining and get their education and stop talkin about the “white man” cuz when i saw a campain by obama in sc there was mainly whites voting for him! i embrace my black side but at the same time i embrace my puerto rican side…i learned about the culture i am learning spanish and i listen to merengue reggaeton salsa bomba and all that…if u say i aint black enough i dont care cuz bein afro american aint all of me, im half puerto rican and no not black puerto rican although im sure my dad had black in him due to the country’s history. and people say if you a drop of black in you then u have to claim to be black….if thats the case julissa and rocsi were qualified for the job because they have black ancestry!! oh and im 14….and very interested in this topic
