Windy City rockers Disturbed are popular not just in the yeshiva, where they attract a following from lead singer David Draiman’s background as an Orthodox Jew, but apparently on the HITS charts as well.
Mazel tov, guys. The Reprise act’s fourth album, Indestructible, appears to be just that, with one-day retail reports pegging it at a first-week total of 230-250k, which should make it #1 next Tuesday.
The band’s previous two albums, 2005’s double-platinum Ten Thousand Fists, and 2002’s platinum Believe, both debuted at #1.
Weezer’s new self-titled DGC/Interscope release, already dubbed by fans “The Red Album,” will ride a diet of the hit single “Porn and Beans” to a debut in the 150k range, fighting it out with Capitol’s Now 28.
Universal Motown pop R&B songstress Ashanti’s The Declaration looks to be in the 80k range.
Journey is the latest brand name act to go the exclusive Wal-Mart route with their latest, Revelation, the first with new lead singer Arnel Pineda, which should do around 80k as well.
Jewel’s first country album, Perfectly Clear, for Big Machine’s Valory label, in on target for a total of 50k.
The market was pretty much flat vs. last week, down 13% vs. same week last year and now off 11% year-to-date. Anyone know where we can get a tank of black market gas below $4?
Ashanti looks really really good. Shes been stepping her game way up, the four year hiatus was good for her. Unlike some people I like her album cover I think she looks sexy. Just because B wears a blow out and a mini doesn’t mean she owns the look. If that were the case Iman, Beverly Johnson, Madonna wouldn’t been rocking the look long ago. Any artist that is in the game is here for a reason…..the FANS. If your not a fan move on. Why waste your time posting negative comments about them, cause at the end of the day does it really matter. Personally Ashanti isn’t on my top list but I do give her credit for moving in a different direction. Even MJB (as ghetto as she can be) has changed over the years with the music and learned how to incorporate parts of herself in it. Ashanti has said in her 106 and Park interview that she gained from taking some time off and just looking at the business and the way the music in R&B has changed over the years cause it changes every year. THATS POTENTIAL…. Some ppl say she tries to hard to be like Beyonce, but what you ppl have to understand is that these ladies are no longer 21 yrs old…. they are wormen now and try to present themselves in a more sophisticated way. As a 26 yr old… I GET IT! I see her interviews and she is still Ashanti (with that ridiculous laugh) but just the way she responds to the questions are alot more mature answers. Give her a break…. she’s making her way through.

I think you ought to get your priorities straight. Surely you can do what you want with your check, but I think it’s smarter to invest it so you won’t be crying broke listening to some cds with your last set of batteries. Just my opinion.

I’d wish someone would use another word in the dictionary. I can only spot a few people in here that actually disrespect her to the point where I would say they actually dislike her at an obscene point, but otherwise some of you guys are rude to people that just merely hold an opinion. I’m sorry but I’m not a person that is sold on just good lyrics and good beats. I give credit where it is due and I admire her writing skills and wish she had written some things for other artists. I love the beat created for her album as well, but I can’t get through the album without disliking her vocals. To thats those lyrics and beats are lost when the vocals can’t match up to it. The term R&B or Rhythm and Blues is historically about the vocals with one instrument. Artists todays are able to fix their vocals with studio voices and cover it with loud beats. Yes I previewed the whole album and sorry but I wasn’t impressed with the vocals so to me it’s not a complete package missing the key component. I wish her the best though in capturing her dreams as I have captured mine.
Ashanti does look better in first picture at the studio and with long dress on the last picture. She looks more natural and not overly made up. But in my opinion she still can’t sing . And as far as writing songs, maybe that’s part of the reason as well she sings about the same ole drama. Maybe she needs to get some help from some heavy hitters who are very talented there are a lot of them out there, and it’s nothing wrong with that. Just because you put things on paper doesn’t make you a good writer either. it ain’t for everybody. Also just because a lot of artist don’t write and she does doesn’t make her more talented.
