♫ THE NEW MUSIC REVIEW ♫
Monday, June 2, 2008

♫ Gorilla Zoe feat. Sean Kingston - On the Corner (full) - listen
Check out Gorilla Zoe’s first single from his new album, Don’t Feed the Animals, which will hit stores some time in September. I was actually interested to see what Zoe was going to do with his first single for the second album because of the huge success of “Hood Figga.” I was pleasantly surprised by “On the Corner.” I like the fact that Zoe signed Sean Kingston up to sing the hook - I think that’s my favorite part of the song. “On the Corner” is very radio friendly and I think it should be a really good look for him.
♫ Sean Garrett feat. Pharrell Williams - Patron (full) - listen
Sean Garrett, who has produced and written countless hits for so many artists is gearing up to release his new album, Turbo 919. Although I absolutely hated the first single, “Grippin’ On the Bed,” featuring Ludacris, the new material that has leaked from the album is not so bad. “Patron,” for example, which is produced by The Neptunes is a smooth track. I’m not sure whether or not I like it because of Sean Garrett, or because of the touch that Pharrell adds to the jam. I’ve always been a fan of The Neptunes’ work, so I think that could be why I’m so into this new song.
♫ LL Cool J feat. Trey Songz - Girl, If I (full) - listen
Check out this new jam from LL Cool J, with the self-proclaimed Prince of VA, Trey Songz. His new album, Exit 13 is set to drop July 8th. It seems like this album is shaping up to be similar to his release, Todd Smith, with a slew of guest features. Every song that I’ve seen that’s leaked so far is featuring someone. Exit 13 will be the last album that LL releases via Def Jam, so he needs to go out with a bang, and honestly, “Girl, If I” left me a little cold.
♫ Rihanna - Disturbia (full) - listen
I know I’m late on this, but I was having computer problems, but I wanted to post this for whoever didn’t have it. This is the second single from Rihanna’s Good Girl Gone Bad: Reloaded. I never thought that a label would put so much money into a rerelease of an album, because apparently, they’re shooting a video for the new track. I’m cool with “Take A Bow,” but I’m not too sure about this “Disturbia” track. It’s been said that Rihanna wrote this herself - and maybe that has a little something to do with it.

Well, I am at work and can’t listen to the rest, but already heard Disturbia so I will comment on it. It is a mediocre single, that will probably go to #1 unfortunately

Im feelin rihanna’s song. itz completly different from what i’ve been hearin lately. and her vocals sound alot better. i might be a fan of hers now, after seeing her perform at the glow in the Dark tour in Detroit. she stepped her game up and She did pretty good.

i’m not a big music fan of rihanna’s but for some reason her re-release makes the most sense to me as her personal life has drummed up enuf attention to warrant a re-release unlike so many other re-releases.

hate sean garret’s voice…again pharrell outshines the artist lol
love the beat, it’s been a while since the neps have done some smooth RnB so i’m really liking it. Lovin p’s voice over the hook….sean garrett needs to sit down you lcked out…cuz you’ll porbably have a hit cuz of who you worked with

I’m not sure how I’m feelin’ about “Disturbia”. Rihanna’s voice can be very hard on the ears, but, the song is cool I guess. “Patron” is cool. I’m usually sold when it comes to Neptunes production. The only thing that bother me about this song is that I can barely understand what Sean is sayin’ in his verses, it sounds a bit jumbled.

Oh hell. Who gave Sean Garret a recording deal? Seriously? He sounds like a premature Ray J. His voice is terrible!! I just wanna throw my laptop out the window now…but I can’t b/c I’m at work and we don’t have any windows up in IT. LOL.
But wow. And if I hear one more song about some “Patron” that’s it and I’m switching to country music for good.
Dear songwriters with no vocal talent: Please stay off my radio unless you have written a song for somebody else. Thanks.

Sure it’s not genius, but if Rihanna wrote it herself some of you are in for a world of cussing because the lyrics are actually quite smart for a pop star… In other words, if she wrote this, she’s a better writer than you know who… Sure, they both suck when you think of people like India Irie and Neneh Cherry, but she’s definitely the better writer of the two. ha! and what will ensue will, I guess…oh well…

I like the new Rihanna song. The little computerized voice thing gets annoying after a while, but she didn’t do bad as far as the lyrics go. Talk shit if you want, but you know damn well this will most likely top the charts. Euro-pop is the way to go now-a-days, thats probably why her boo Chris Brown did that song “Forever”….which is also my jam lol.
The Sean Garrett song is okay….but I can’t get passed how fugly this dude is. I hope he shaved that faux-hawk from his effing head-top since that damn Grippin On the Bed video….

sean garrett: it is definately the production and the featured artist that makes this song listenable b/c this dude says like a tard when he’s singing. and do they say something like “she has patron on her breath”? smh.
rihanna: first she’s right behind bey on maxim’s hot 100 list and now she’s trying to make a song w/ the dance/beautiful nightmare mix. my fanaticism is slowly decreasing for rih…

Totally off topic nut, I agree with the rest of you, Usher’s cd is soooo damn good. You can definitely hear the maturity both lyrically and vocally. People keep comparing the cd to Confessions, not realizing that he was going through totally different situations in his life when Confessions was recorded.

LL Cool J - i like it, shouldn’t be a first single but it might become a hit on BET
Rihanna - i like it, sounds like something Michael or Janet Jackson might have done. and it is kinda reminscent of Forever by Chris Brown but both are cool dance tracks
Sean Garrett - it’s iight… it would be hot if it was Pharrell’s song by himself… i don’t really like Sean’s singing voice but i hope his album does great…
wish the best for all the artists… keep workin hard
