♫ THE NEW MUSIC REVIEW ♫

Monday, June 2, 2008

♫ Gorilla Zoe feat. Sean Kingston - On the Corner (full) - listen
Check out Gorilla Zoe’s first single from his new album, Don’t Feed the Animals, which will hit stores some time in September. I was actually interested to see what Zoe was going to do with his first single for the second album because of the huge success of “Hood Figga.” I was pleasantly surprised by “On the Corner.” I like the fact that Zoe signed Sean Kingston up to sing the hook - I think that’s my favorite part of the song. “On the Corner” is very radio friendly and I think it should be a really good look for him.

♫ Sean Garrett feat. Pharrell Williams - Patron (full) - listen
Sean Garrett, who has produced and written countless hits for so many artists is gearing up to release his new album, Turbo 919. Although I absolutely hated the first single, “Grippin’ On the Bed,” featuring Ludacris, the new material that has leaked from the album is not so bad. “Patron,” for example, which is produced by The Neptunes is a smooth track. I’m not sure whether or not I like it because of Sean Garrett, or because of the touch that Pharrell adds to the jam. I’ve always been a fan of The Neptunes’ work, so I think that could be why I’m so into this new song.

♫ LL Cool J feat. Trey Songz - Girl, If I (full) - listen
Check out this new jam from LL Cool J, with the self-proclaimed Prince of VA, Trey Songz. His new album, Exit 13 is set to drop July 8th. It seems like this album is shaping up to be similar to his release, Todd Smith, with a slew of guest features. Every song that I’ve seen that’s leaked so far is featuring someone. Exit 13 will be the last album that LL releases via Def Jam, so he needs to go out with a bang, and honestly, “Girl, If I” left me a little cold.

♫ Rihanna - Disturbia (full) - listen
I know I’m late on this, but I was having computer problems, but I wanted to post this for whoever didn’t have it. This is the second single from Rihanna’s Good Girl Gone Bad: Reloaded. I never thought that a label would put so much money into a rerelease of an album, because apparently, they’re shooting a video for the new track. I’m cool with “Take A Bow,” but I’m not too sure about this “Disturbia” track. It’s been said that Rihanna wrote this herself - and maybe that has a little something to do with it.

LL is fire….Sean Garrett is fire as well. And as far as the comments on the Usher album, the music is trash…..period. I don’t think it has anything to do with him growing up, and people not grasping that concept. The music is hot garbage. Kingdom Come was hot garbage. I hate when an artist puts out filth, and stans just won’t admit that the project is trash. It hurt me to have to admit that Kingdom Come was a terrible album because I am a huge Jay Z fan, but it was. Usher seemed like he was caught in trying to be like Justin and Robin, and failed. He will put out another album mad fast, and then say that this one that is out now was either rushed, or he had a lot going on so he couldn’t give the people the music they wanted. Chris Brown came out and kicked his ass, and he wasn’t ready for it.

People stop hatin on my girl Rihanna….I guess thats the price of Fame, people cheer you on when you tryin to acheieve success but once you get there the hate yo ass.
and you need to stop with the Beyonce comparisions, all artist follow a certain formula for success that why you think people are copying off each other and that is how styles are resurrected. thats why most the artist out are going to the same group of producers, becuz you consumers what that…you want to hear certain sounds in track…i digress…you pretty are soo ignorant the system of things…anyway
Rihanna has her on sound vocally whether you like it or not. Whenever you hear her voice on the radio you can identify her, just like with Beyonce, Chris Brown, Usher and Alicia that what makes stars…a tradmark sound, and image that sets you apart from the pack….that why you girl Tearra Mari,Brooke Valentine,Missez,Chrsitina Milian, Amerie and Keri Hilson have such a hard time standing out and blowing up.

I actually don’t know what to say about Rihanna’s new single “Disturbia.” It’s not that I don’t like it, I’m just still undecided. But with “Take A Bow,” I never really liked the song to be completely honest. I love Rihanna, and her ‘Good Girl Gone Bad’ album, but these new songs she has been releasing lately are very poor.

It’s always nice to see LL Cool J back, making music. Sean Garrett is a good producer…that’s it! I love “What Are You Gonna Do?,” which is Raven-Symoné’s new single produced by Garrett.

OH yeah I have to speak on USHER
no body is hating on the new usher…its a good album just not great, didn’t live up to expectation. someone said “we don’t understand Usher has grown up”
I agree, but he grew up too fast. the timimg was bad, the album was too slow and “grown up” ( I mean Usher is only 29, this album could have easily been recorded by Brian McKnight or JOE…lol) and I think Usher work more on his vocal performance and growth than his actually material becuz i felt alot of the material was just a step above medicore…what is missing from this CD, is the guidence he had for L.A Reid.
Sean Garrett was noticable missing from the writing and the strong uptempos we are used too…
Best songs:
Trading Places, Moving Mountain,Love YOu gently,His Mistakes, Love in this Club…Will work for love…but none these really compare with what have heard previously from Usher

Tuesday, June 3, 2008 /

In my opinion Usher cd is EXCELLENT it is not Confessions but if it was yall would be complaining that he didn’t change up his style. Why is people say he was trying to be like Justin when and where?b because I don’t hear it. If his cd didn’t speak on Tameka and current events we would all say he doesn’t love her. Here I Stand is a cd of personal growth he talks about his marriage and his love for his wife.

As far as Chris Brown his voice is weak to me and there is no comparison to Usher CB is just getting started and his first cd is better than Exclusive IMO.

I actually loved Kingdom Come Beach Chair is the best song on there and it also showed Jay growth at that time he was in the office and not in the street.

@84 how was Usher cd too grown up when he got married and have a child if all of his songs would have been about partying it wouldn’t be true. Sean Garrett is over hyped to me as a writer his material lately has been not good.

@wess Genius

I agree with you on that Usher prediction. Artist always try to do damage control like that…lol

90.

Rake

Tuesday, June 3, 2008 /

I agree that Rihanna should have saved the new material for something new…I think artists are just lazy and throwing new songs (even hot ones) on an old cd (i.e. re-releasing it) exempts them from actually showing growth. Think about it. It’s the easy way out because a new project means essentially starting all over…this way, though, there’s no need of promotion or choosing a hit single or any of that other stuff… A part of me wants to give her a pass though because she’s actually taking more responsibility for her work…writing this song is a good look and so it might actually be an extension of the original record…

91.

Tuesday, June 3, 2008 /

I think “Disturbia” is 10x better than “Take A Bow”. This is actually a fun track you can dance to in a club or lounge. “TAB” is all emotional and sad.

Here we go again…black ass crabs hating on people who are doing something with themselves, while the crabs sit on their ass wanting to get some shine. If black Americans would stop hating on each other and try to make a move on their lives then maybe they could lose the ..white man has me down mentality. At least all the artists are trying or doing something with their lives…..maybe you can take a page from their book and stop the black crab mentality.

@ Dame What’s up fellow Houstonian? Are you lovin’ this heat? I agree with everything you said. I don’t why people are saying that Usher is trying to be like Justin if anything it’s vice versa!!!

Why in the hell would people say Chris Brown is better than Usher? Chris has a very weak voice then on top of that he does duets with people that over powers his voice (ex. Jordin Sparks).

I love Kingdom Come album!!!! I mean these days people are into Soulja Boy and you know what? I can’t tell you these rappers names these days cause most are gonna be one hit wonders LOL so why even bother!!!!!….

Usher’s CD is GREAT;
GROWTH: Art imitates life: The man is married, has a son, he is putting himself in his music. If he didnt do this, Critics would go hard on him…ONE CAN NEVER
SATISFY ALL. (Appetite, Love you gently, Something Special)

RESPONSIBILITY: He is owning to the man he has become. (Moving Mountains, His Mistakes, Best Thing)

OUTSTANDING: i think its an INSULT to compare CB to Usher, there is simply no comparison. Anyone with brains will concur.

WISDOM: Say what you will, but Usher is an Intelligent man. He is able to manipulate his skills and produce something everyone can relate to. Everyone is comparing Here I Stand to Confessions: These two cleary are diff. One is about finding Love and fufilment (Though he tried to please the bitter one’s with some sad love songs: his mistake, whats a man to do, and moving mountains) while the other is about Bitterness and infidelity.

TALENT: His music speaks for itself: thats the real defination or TALENT

HIT MAKERS: He makes HIT: Love in this club, Moving mountains, Trading places, Before i met you…)

There is no other way to put it…Usher GREW!, those in the SLOWER LANE are just having difficulties adjusting to the man he has become

Rihanna’s album was actually really good for a pop album; when im in the mood for pop music i listen to it.

Not feeling Disturbia, however i applaud her for writing the song, because its not bad as far as the lyrics go. At least she’s a decent songwriter. The vocal synthesizer ruins the song because it makes her voice sound harsher, which is what she needs to avoid since her voice is qute tough already.

Well Before I get lump into that category of “hata”, I never said that Usher CD wasn’t good, I said it was good, not great….I just expected better song material…I mean dude has been gone for 5 years…5 years. Luv in da club hit no#1 and quickly fell out of the top spot. Yeah, Burn & Confessions spent weeks there. The songs on this effort are more serious (which is a good thing) and well sang ( his vocals just keep improving ) but where are the “block buster, as soon as you hear it, you can’t wait til it ends so you can press repeat” songs. There are real memorable and sentimental moments on Here I stand, but I don’t look to an artist like Usher for poet and creativity.(and Usher didn’t write much of material here he just paid for writer credit, like Beyonce does, anyone who has THE DReams CD know his writing style and know that Trading places and Moving mountains is alll THE DREAM word for word, same for the Raheem Devaughn written “love you gently”…i digress) I personal like 8701 and &confessions better…does mean i hope he doesn’t sell another 10 million…no. Does this i won’t buy another Usher album…no. Just not readily for the departure of fun upbeat Usher. same way I felt when Janet went from “Janet” to “Velvet Rope”. I like Usher fro his Upbeat engery and performances and alot I like his Slow bedroom songs, on occasion. I don’t need a whoel album of.
If I want some mediocre “Usher” I would have purchased MARIO ’s Turning Point or GO. I also want to clarify that I was not the one stating that Usher was trying to Justin or that Chris Brown is better singer or artist…those statement are insane beyond belief.

To Usher defense I can’t expect lightning to strike twice and for him to repeat COnfessions…Hell Michael Jackson never repeated “Thriller”

Usher, I am still a fan, but won’t be buying a re-release of this CD, even if it does contain some more uptempo songs.

Rihanna could have brought a new flava and taste to the whole reggae/pop sound…..but they keep changin her sound as if thats the focus she needs help on…when its not the music itself its more so the fact that she cant stay true to one sound. Every month theres something new about her and its not just her look. I personally just liked her music a tad bit better when she first came out…her first 2cds fit her…but I guess a good girl has to go bad….especially in the industry shes in.

We all have different taste. So when someone sais disturbia is hot! Den it is to them. But as soon as someone does not like a song, they are called a hater? Is this serious? Many of Rihanna’s single’s I have enjoyed, and yes the girl is doin her thing, not mad at her at all. Disturbia was just not it for me.
