♫ THE NEW MUSIC REVIEW ♫

♫ Dru Hill – Get Loose (full) – listen
Remember that stage fight that Dru Hill had on the radio that was all over YouTube? Well, apparently, that was supposed to be publicity to jog some media attention around the group releasing a new album. “Get Loose” is apparently Dru Hill’s comeback single for their new project, which hasn’t really had too much information circulated about it. I guess Sisqo’s solo career didn’t work out as planned, so he’s reclaiming the reigns as lead vocalist. I just wonder what the boys are going to be talking about this time around, because “Get Loose” sounds a little dated.

♫ Ne-Yo – Nobody (full) – listen
More new music from Ne-Yo’s new project, Year of the Gentlemen, which was supposed to drop June 24th, but has been pushed back. It’s crazy because most of the albums that were slated to drop that day are being pushed back, while albums that had an earlier release date were moved to drop on that day. “Nobody” sounds like something that was on Ne-Yo’s last album, very Michael Jackson-esque and danceable. I was hoping, actually, for more cuts like “Closer.” But we’ll see as more material leaks.

♫ Robin Thicke – Magic (full) – listen
So, after the leaking of Robin Thicke’s single, “Magic,” from his third studio album, finally, a CD quality version leaks. I still love the track just as I did before, but I’m glad to finally have a full version of the song. “Magic” is slated to be Thicke’s first single from his upcoming project, Something Else. I can’t wait to see what else he has up his sleeve, considering that The Evolution was one of my favorite albums to drop that year.

♫ Macy Gray feat. The Game – Only In the Dark (full) – listen
Here’s new material from Macy Gray. I’m excited to see that Macy is coming out with a new album, because I really did dig her last project, Big. I’m not sure how I feel about The Game feature, but I’m not mad. “Only In the Dark” is a cool sounding song, but I’m a little underwhelmed by the lyrics. I usually expect a little more from Macy, but this is pretty interesting that this song is coming from her. I remember Teedra Moses mentioning working with her, so hopefully we’ll be able to see the fruits of that labor.

    I’m not a fan of Macy Gray or Ne-Yo. I happen to love Robin Thicke and those of his ilk. It is just a style of preferences. Why is it important to tear down an artist? If they are not your cup of tea, they are not your cup of tea. Don’t insult them just because you do not like them. That is ignorant and one of the reasons music is in the state that it is in. And there is a difference in bringing something new to the table and just not liking it. Just because I don’t like Macy’s current song does not mean I don’t groove to her previous works. I find her and Ne-Yo both talented individuals, however, I don’t care for them from a fan perspective. It really is that simple. Unlike others, I don’t need to belittle their talents to build others up. The fact is their music rarely touch me beyond a superficial level. When they hit me, rest assure I will rock them.

    JON B HAS A CD OUT…THEY JUST DON’T PLAY IT ON THE RADIO….RADIO BETTER NOT DO THIS TO MAXWELL WHEN HE COMES BACK OUT…I DON’T KNOW HOW AND WHY THEY PICK CERTAIN ARTISTS TO BLACK BALL…

    OMG that was Sisqo? He need to cut it out w/ his K-ci sounding ass. There can only be ONE K-ci, damn it lol! Speaking of only ONE… am I the only one sick of this “I wanna be the next MJ” BS thanks to Ne-yo and CB? Seriously… it would be great if they put their own swag on it but they don’t. Where Ne-Yo lacks in sex appeal and dancing (he only does one style of dancing), CB picks up. Where CB lacks in overall writing, Ne-yo picks up. Where they BOTH lack in that ability to grab a universal audience with personality and presence… NONE can compare to MJ. I like Ne-yo pre-MJ comparisons and CB pre-pop influence. Both need to get over this MJ shit and try perfecting themselves. I heard that Magic song and I don’t like it but I can’t wait to hear other music from Robin. Also that Macy Gray song is unexpected and NOT appreciated by me. It was wack….

    To #70…. its called GROWING UP. I may love something when I’m 12 and question it now because I’m into other things MORE now that I’m 21. Its called personal growth and if you’re the same person now you were when they first came out… I really feel bad for you. Also don’t complain about being an adult then because ppl of ALL ages need to grow in order to adapt to the CHANGING world. That’s life…

    @73

    IT’S NOT CALLED GROWING UP, IT’S CALLED “CONFUSION”.

    DRU HILL MADE GROWN UP MUSIC, THERE’S NOTHING TEENY BOOPER OR CHILDISH ABOUT, SO THERE WOULD BE NO NEED TO GROW OUT OF IT, UNLESS HOWEVER, YOU GROW OUT OF R&B…..

    IF YOU LIKED THEIR “SOUND” BACK THEN, THEN HERE THEY ARE GIVING YOU “CLASSIC” DRU HILL WITH THE SAME SOUND….

    I SWEAR!

  13. Realistic

    Love the Dru hill song. Love the music of the nineties. Authentic harmonies. Now in days the harmonies sound fake like only one person is doing all three parts. Or have this electronics happening with it. I like the Authenticity of 90s music.
