TV ROUNDUP: CNN’S ‘BLACK IN AMERICA’ / MICHELLE OBAMA TO HOST ‘THE VIEW’

Check out the first trailer for “CNN Presents: Black in America”. It’s a four-hour television event that examines the complex issues, successes and struggles of black men, women and families. Airing July 23rd & 24th at 9pmET/PT. Make sure to check out the official site for the special and CL for more updates.

MICHELLE OBAMA ON ‘THE VIEW’

Just a heads up to all the Michelle Obama fans out there. The wife of the Democratic nominee, Barack Obama, will be co-hosting ‘The View’ Wednesday, June 18 (aka tomorrow).

The program invited her to be a co-host on the show last year, but she respectfully declined, citing the Hollywood writers strike as the reason. Celinda Lake, a prominent Democratic pollster who specifically targets female voters, strongly supports the idea of Michelle’s upcoming appearance on the popular daytime television show.

“It’s a great move. It’s an opportunity for people to learn more about her and his personal story, which is very compelling. … Voters believe the wife is a window onto the character of the man.”

It’s about time they give some do attention to the phenomena that is the black person and black family. Hopefully CNN does a good job. & Michelle Obama is the truth. Hopefully I can catch the show before work!

  6. ThatGirlLinda

I will be watching the view and the CNN in special. I think we really need to step up and hold the networks responsible about the lack of minorities on TV. For example for The Game to be the number one show they still push Gossip Girl. I’m going to do some research or something. Any Ideas.

  7. Da Diva

I can’t wait to see the special. It will be interesting to see if it is an accurate representation and cross-section of Black America.

Will def be watching Michellet tomorrow!

    Thatgirllinda–

I commend you for wanting to take action girl! You may want to start with the Nielsen Rating to determine how many Black homes have the Nielsen ratings boxes hooked up to their tv. Nielsen ratings are how they determine which shows are popular, etc.

Hope this helps. Let CL know what your research turns up. Good luck!

    Da Diva
THX Chica, I will. I don’t have cable so I can’t watch cable channels however my mom does. What is so puzzling is that I can watch Telemundo, and about 5 other Spanish channels for free but I have to pay for the two Black channels.

  10. I really wish I were able to catch The View tomorrow, I’ll have to find someone to record if for me…

  11. im very interested in this special!

  12. t-boogie

NOW..this is going to be good because the Hasselback chick is going to try to come out of her Republican Face and my Girl is going to respectfully put her in her place….I might just have to take a sick day for this one!!!!!!

  13. Gabrielle Isra

Great! I can’t wait to watch The View now; Michelle Obama seems so well-refined, dignified, and classy. A prime example of how women should carry themselves now-a-days; she’s going to have as much influence on the women of this country as Obama does.

  14. Emerald

thanks for keeping us informed CL i will definietly try to watch Black in America looks very interesting

  15. Nottigrl01

I’m definitely looking forward to watch the special on CNN about Blacks in America. We have issues that need to be addressed that have been around for decades.
Hopefully, they will talk about the fact that the majority of the population of our prisons are occupied by out black men, which is really damaging to our communities. We all need to open our 3rd eye!!!!!

  16. Nottigrl01

    **Watching***
    ***OUR***
    Sorry for the typos!

  17. Juicy SuperStar

Didnt know about either. I will have to catch the CNN show and maybe Tivo the Michelle Obama.

  18. OBAMA SUPPORTER

    @ 12 T-Boogie

You took the words right out of my mouth! I don’t like Elisabeth Hasselbeck and she obviously has something against Barack. I hope she does say something stupid so Michelle can set her straight! Can’t wait to see Michelle on the show tomorrow.

  19. SparkD

My calendars are watched. I think CNN will do this special in a tasteful way, and Michelle will have all eyes on her. I truly hope this turns her image around. I’m tired of the Omarasa comparison.

  20. Drama Dupree

WOW… I can honestly say that CNN has rendered me speechless. Now all we can do is wait to see how their view of us as a black nation will be told to the world at large.

  21. sprty

I’m excited for the CNN special. I can only hope that it is an accurate portrayal.

  22. DETROIT ALL DAY!

that was one HELL of a trailer for “Black In America!” Can’t WAIT to tune in! P.S. LOVE Michelle!

  23. linda

Oh my I cannot WAIT to see how Michelle and Elizabeth interact!!!! This is gonna be a good one! Elizabeth is so utterly offbase with her comments. Michelle is a real sista and she will SHUT Elizabeth down if she gets outta hand when speaking about Barack! I can’t wait!!!! I can’t stand Elizabeth. She obviously has lived a sheltered republican life!

  24. GOOO MICHEELLLEE!!!! YOU GO GIRL!

Go Mrs. First Lady!!!! We love you!!! :)

  25. soscha

    I ‘LL BE WAITNG BOTH

  26. soscha

    OKAy Mr.& Mrs. President

    YES WE CAN!!!!!!!!!!

  27. CGJ

*Must remember to set TIVO for the View tonight*

  28. LA BELLA

I LOVE THE OBAMA’S GO MICHELLE!!!!!

  29. I think I may have to call in late to catch the View. Michelle will not even play with Elizabeth if she tries to come at her or Barack. I’ve heard her on our Chicago radio station WGCI before Barack announced he was running and she is classy but still a regular sistah. She likes old school and current R&B and Hip Hop and Harolds chicken and Lawrences Seasfood (anyone from the Chi knows what I’m talking about). That’s what made me love them more.

  30. oblivious

I hope Elizabeth is there and Michelle shuts her up. Dam, guess I will be watching it on youtube. Michelle is a prime example of supporting your mans dreams and sticking by his side doing whatever you have to do.

  31. YUP

I cant wait to see both programs…I LOVE CNN..with a passion.

They do not discriminate and they have the most relevant news than all the other bullshit stations. I love how they are exploring other races and places around the world.

Can’t wait to see Michelle Obama..Behind every strong man is a strong woman..and that she is.

Thanks for mentioning this CL..this is something many black people need to see.

  32. NIC

Go Michelle! I love me some Michelle Obama!

  33. ts

wow. excited for both. but i need to remember to watch the view tomorrow…

  34. FigureOfSpeech

She should pass because they are going to twist her words. BIG MISTAKE.

It’s about time CNN! I’m really looking forward to this special. I followed the link and ended up viewing the video by the Morehouse grad. I really liked what he brought to the table and his video was great! I also checked out a blog he posts too which can be found on BET. I loved it. The pictures of Obama that have been floating around the media are absolutelty disgusting though!

  37. MissMikelah

I’ll def. be watching, looks good.

  38. Toot

Get it CNN. If you didn’t see “Noose,” which also aired on CNN late last year, you missed out. There, Keira Phillips went where so many would dare not go. I would definitely recommend tuning into this one. I have gained mondo respect for the network, so big ups to them.

I like ‘Chelle O’Bama. People tried to rag on her for wearing stately attire in her fashion spread with some magazine — I forget which one –while what’s her face chose to wear jeans. ‘Chelle was just proving she could get down w/ the get down. Nothing better than a well dressed black anybody who owns IT! I’m just saying, but I’ll always give credit where credit is due. White chica can wear jeans, b/c some of the ignorami out there will assume she’s classy –she’d have to get out of a car w/ no panties on and her legs spread to prove otherwise… With a black woman, it’s a different story. . .

  39. Emma V's Great-Grandaughter

Can’t wait to watch the CNN special because white people need to know that not all black people do bad stuff.

  40. Kellz

I’m very proud of CNN for trying to show the majority the diversity in A.A. culture. Maybe now they can stop stereotyping us. I also hope all types of black ppl watch this so we can stop stereotyping ourself and the less-fortunate can be expose to more beneficial options. Thanks CL for reminding me when it comes on because I thought I missed it!

  41. bella

This is so exciting, she gets a chance to speak with the American people and to showcase the kind of intelligent, courageous and personable person that she is. Its interesting that she has often been deemed the closer during the campaign trail. I am going to be watching this and will coax everyone I know to do the same.
As for the comments on Elizabeth, she exemplifies everything that is wrong with America today. She is too self-absorbed, ethnocentric, close-minded, and clearly is not knowlegable on the issues affecting the world today. She truly is one of those people who believes that America is invincible and we need not make any changes but remain as we are. Tragic potrayal of the ills of this nation’s ideology

  42. bella

As a side note, I also cannot wait to watch the program on CNN. CNN I must say has been on it lately broadening their content , they even have a child labor special coming up in July which would be very enlightening to see.

  43. AriesRme

    Thats wassup Gotta TIVO it!

    I LOVE Michelle Obama…..she’s amazing!!!

  48. Becca

  49. k

I cannot WAIT to see Michelle put it down tomorrow!! She is such a positive and intelligent black female..She is on a level to aspire too…I can’t wait to watch!!!
Oh and I can’t stand that hassleback chick, she gets on my nerves, and I know Michelle will have a FEW choice words for that ass!!!

    Obama 08

  50. SassyT

I will mos def be watching both. Thanks, CL, for the heads up.

  51. I have mixed feeling about CNN …. this 4 part black in America should be interesting.

I like rarely watch the view anymore but I have to see the show tomorrow. Hopefully it goes smoothly even with Elizabeth.

  52. How YOU doin??

Can’t wait to see Michelle shut Elizabeth down!!!

  53. David

I am not a Michelle Obama fan. I think the woman is fake and phony. She made the comment that she was never proud of her country until her husband had a legitimate shot at the presidency. Not proud of your country. How can anyone be not be proud of this country in their entire lifetime. There are so many things that make this country great compared to other countries. If you were never proud of this country you should move somewhere else.

  54. fiffj1234

You can tell the Obamas have real love for one another when no one is around. You can see it in their faces when they look at one another as if they are still crushing/smitten with each other after years of marriage, especially how Mr. Obama looks at his wife. LOVE THEM!!

  55. Mr. FAMU

I have been waiting for the Black In America special for a year now. FAMU was the first stop on the CNN HBCU tour and we got to shoot an I-report. I really hope that CNN does the black community justice with this documentary. Their GODS WARRIORS documentary won a Peabody award.

  56. andy

Love me some michelle obama. She is the epitome of black womanhood at its best.

  57. Miss March

I can ‘t stand Elisabeth Hasselbeck she makes me sick!! Even when she wrong she just keep talking. She will say something stupid I gaurantee and Michelle will put her in her place with class and style

    Go Obama 08!!

  58. realstateofmind

Love Her…..Did ya’ll hear they called her an angry black woman. White people can be so ignorant at times. not all, but some alot. Why is she angry because she is voicing her opinion? Black women are damned if they do and damned if they dont. if we voice our opinion , then we are angry, if we don’t; then we are not seen as strong but as weak. Whatever. Michelle is a Harvard educated black woman. That does not come easy to anyone. She is the epitome of a woman with class, pose and intelligence. She is the epitome of a strong black woman.
