VIDEO: MAGIC JOHNSON PSA

Monday, June 9, 2008

Basketball legend Magic Johnson and director Spike Lee are teaming up to raise awareness about HIV and AIDS in a new set of public service announcements.

Directed by Lee, the two PSAs – “Stand” and “Talk” – feature Johnson, 48, and his wife Cookie, 49, encouraging the public to get informed about the disease, especially the younger population.

MAGIC, COOKIE & SPIKE

“I think a lot of times we just don’t have the information,” Johnson tells PEOPLE. “Especially young people. They think they’re invincible and nothing can happen to them but the numbers are showing that those getting HIV are real young now. We have to now do something about that.”

I’m glad he did a PSA, because many youn people in the Bay Area think he is cured. I keep telling them their is no cure.

Not to be ignorant or invasive but I dont understand the relationship between these 2. Are they having sex? Do they kiss and stuff? Seems pretty risky to me. Id be scared shitless if I were her.

@ #2. That is not an ignorant question. A lady came to my high school back in the day to talk about living w/ AIDS. She shocked the hell out of all of us when she said that men find out about her disease and still want to have sex w/ her. Idk. He is doing a good thing though.

Here’s a thought! Instead of glamorizing premarital sex to teens, why not say to kids: “Wait till you get married.” Think about when your grandparents were young. Sure there were some having premarital sex and catching VD( venereal diseases or what we now call STD) back then, but it wasn’t nowhere near as many as it is today. Back then it was shameful to do such things. There was less Nowadays parents are giving the green light to there 13 yrs old kids to have sex even when they’re there. Some even allow their children’s boyfriends/girlfriends to with them in there kids rooms!!! Then they wondering why little Jessie is always pregnant. Girls as young as 12 are on birth control, 12 yrs old!!! Kids know about contraception, kids just don’t want to use it. Kids know about the dangers, they just don’t care. Cookie is a better person than I am because I wouldn’t have stayed with him after that even if I did love him.

#3: Was that Rae Lewis Thornton, by any chance?

#2: An HIV-positive person’s saliva contains the virus but in such small amounts that the only way to become infected is by their saliva coming in contact with your blood through a cut, regardless of how small.

Since the virus can be in an infected person’s blood, semen or vaginal secretions, it can be passed through cuts or sores in your skin. For that reason, medical professionals always mention that having unprotected sex with someone who has the virus is one of the most common ways to get it.

I kind of agree with #6. What is so wrong with telling these young kids that is okay to say no. It is okay to not have sex also. Yes some kids are going to have sex, but, children are children and we keep giving them persmission to have sex. I think if we gave them permission to not have it if they didn’t want too that some of them would actually wait. I don’t know if they would wait until they got married, but, they would wait a little while longer.

I don’t understand how he still looks so well and fit soo many years later. I understand why people believe that he is cured. He looks healthier than the average man. I don’t know yo…I’m happy that he is doing well but I’ve always been curious/suspicious.

I think that the goverment has a cure, but why give it out, just another way of population control. 6.5 billion people is too many, that what the goverment thinks that disease and war is for, population control. Protect yourself, and we can’t apprach AIDS with the “just say no” thought, kids are having sex, and we have to use real talk to address the issue, and not just wish it was the 80’s again and hope Janet Jackson’s “let’s wait a while” will teach the youth.

Indeed. Gain knowledge. Even those that are alternative views and oppose orthodox “facts”. There’s much to question.

For instance, take time to visit these links below.

www.aliveandwell.org

www.duesberg.com (professor of Molecular and Cell Biology at the University of California, Berkeley who isolated the first cancer gene through his work on retroviruses in 1970, and mapped the genetic structure of these viruses (HIV is thought to be a retrovirus). Understand what a retrovirus truly is and how that effects the hypothesis of HIV=AIDS.

Understand what HIV tests are truly testing for and how many diagnoses are false based on the inaccuracy of standard HIV test kits, even so, find out what the test kit disclaimers say. (video below and brochure of factors that cause false positives)

http://www.youtube.com/wa...KTkaQ&feature=related

http://www.aliveandwell.o...YouDoNotHaveToHaveHIV.pdf

There’s much much more info out there to know and this is from professionals and scientists who have studied and researced the orthodox hypothesis of HIV/AIDS.

Much Love and Knowledge to you.

Mr. Money Magic... of course he'd say "get tested" and not "abstain"....

Monday, June 9, 2008 /

“Get tested…. “these kinds of messages are co-sponsored by ‘ghost’ funders or ’silent partners’ as they are more frequently called.

Drug companies, medical testing supply companies and hospitals…

Many of these organizations would much rather pay Magic to say “get tested, so that you can begin using our products”, than for them to pay Magic to say “abstain from sex.”. Whether you like it or not, these corporations lose out on profits if they tell kids not to have sex.

Honestly, if you truly believe in in the ‘abstinence’ message, I would suggest you first raise, and then shell-out the $300,000 that it would take to make that commercial and get it broadcasted nationally + payment a celeb would charge for his/her time.

I don’t think the government has a cure because really why not let it be known. A man here in TX got sent to prison for spitting on a COP and yelling I have HIV, he was HIV positive.

By any chance has anyone ever heard of the CDC ( Center for Disease Control) ?? Or the Tuskegee incident where there were hundreds of poor black farmers infected with syphillis and they didn’t know? So they passed on the disease to others because of ignorance. In the case that the government did put the disease out there…why won’t we all just wise up and get tested so we know our status and stop killing US for THEM. As for Cookie and Magic, I still haven’t read the story so I won’t comment yet.
P.S. @ Bay comment- Tell them dummies that if it was rumored but not validated that cutting off their genitals with out a Dr. or anesthesia and devouring their own feces cured AIDs/HIV would they do it? Ignorance is a blisster, they never finished the sentence.

oh my bad, the farmers that were infected were infected by the government for real as a “scientific study” of the affects of syphillis left untreated. They were lied to and told that the shots that they were recieving would help them.

P.P.S. Google , The Tuskegee Experiment…. The government tried to make it look better by saying that black doctors were involved and stuff etc. and also by saying that the men were already infected with the disease, but it just doesn’t make since as to why so many of the farmers wives got sick. Besides the possibility of infidelity but I mean come on!

I don’t believe the government has a cure for HIV/AIDS, there is certain medication that people can take that will help them keep a strong immune system, but eventually they will get sick with something else combined with a weak immune system and die. I do however believe that there are certain medicines that people can take to help them live longer, but I believe only people like Magic Johnson can afford it.

People think he is cured because he ( and his wife) sometimes point out how he has been testing negative, what they fail to mention is that the medication he is taking is helping him to test negative, if he stops taking it he will go back to testing positive.

They look great. I believe when they were on Oprah maybe last year or 2006. (Whenever the most recent appearance on Oprah was) they talked about their sex life. And they do have sex. There are vows they took and I assume, when they said For better or worse, through sickness and in health…….(they) are following their vows! And being safe when they are intimate! I know it seems like the end of the world, but there are many people that have lived with the HIV virus for many, many years. “Magic” is one of the more blessed(wealthy) people who can have the best (medical) care possible and the exception to the rule,in a way. But you can live with the disease. “And you can live through anything if { Magic} made it”.
