If you’ve been on the youtube scene, you’ve probably already heard about Dondria aka Phatffat. This singer and songwriter garnered a large fan base online, which ended up with her getting an exclusive recording contract with Jermaine Dupri.
Her new album is supposed to hit stores in July and her first single, “Can’t Stop” will be released sometime next week. Be on the look out for more features on this upcoming talent and make sure to peep the video above.
I like this chick. I think I saw her singing “Promise” on youtube awhile back. I’ll wait to see how the first single sounds.

I think Dondria has a unique place in R&B. The key to her longevity will be in her being herself and creating music that is her own. She reminds me of Letoya Luckett meets Teiarra Marie.

Congrats to Dondria. I loved watching her youtube videos. She has wonderful vocal talent and people who are criticizing her needs to know
1. She was singing on you tube videos with a computer microphone, not a high powered mic with equalizers and things
2. She sang over instrumentals not studio equipment and also sang acapella many times.
3. She has had no vocal training lessons.
Yet she already sounds this good. Can you imagine how great she will sound under Johnta Austins vocal direction, add in studio, and high powered mics and soundbooths. If JD is smart he will bring in Monica as well to help her voice become even stronger.
On top of that why is Ashanti being mentioned? Her voice went from whispering to screaming with 4 years of vocal training? Plus her album sales speak for itself. I’m if her and this little girl had an acapella battle, Ashanti would get slammed.

OMG..I didn’t know she got a deal. I used to always go to her youtube page and request songs for her to sing. That girl has got talent….hopefully she has star power to go along with it.
I have watched a few of her videos ages ago, its nice to see talented youtube artists get signed. Her voice is good but it doesn’t blow me away; its not very unique. When I heard Chrisette and Janelle and Alice King I was blown away by their uniqness.

The girl does have a good voice and there is no doubt that she can make it. However, I agree, she does need a UNIQUE sound. Tired of hearing wanna be Beyonces. Everyone’s delivery is the SAME. Even though she can sing, that’s just not enough these days.

The music industry is totally different in America… in the UK, especially London, you have your MySpace/YouTube/Bebo and what not sites, you start a lil buzz going and you play clubs and pubs and gigs and concerts, you know? Let everyone know you can bring it on a live level, that you’re a real person… hehehehee.. that you can really sing and attract a crowd, then the record labels start buzzing around.

Just because people listen to you sing on YouTube does not mean you will be a superstar and sell lots of albums. YouTube is free. Look at all these people with millions of Myspace listens and nobody cares. I’m just sayin’. She has a nice voice, but there is nothing about it that says “Ah ha! THAT’s Dondria!”
But if her album is dropping this quickly, I’m pretty sure we’re going to get some highly manufactured stuff so it’ll be interesting to see what she comes up with. I mean. If we get 14 tracks of recycled JD beats, I’ll pass.
She has a very very good voice and an impeccable technique. Her song “Still Be With Me” is beautiful, now I heard her sing like last year and I was really impressed, so i’m not surprised she found a record label.

I like Dondria and have listened to her on youtube. I will support her new effort but my fear is her signing with JD. I know she wants to get signed but this is a bad move. In my opinion it would of been better if she found an independent label. That way she could negotiate better and they would probably push her a bit more. So So Def likes to ride the wave and drop their artists if the first single doesn’t go well. I don’t like Can’t Stop already, it’s not radio friendly.

usually some people feel that once your with a major label they usually wanna change your look and style to what appeals to the audience or what sells and not what neccessarily keeps you YOU. so thats why with some independent labels, they tend to allow the artist to be them and not really focus on what they wanna mold the artist to be like but more rather focus on getting thier artistic side out and also respecting that artist’s own self image.
especially now a days a lot of record labels wanna “sexify” teens and it is not a good move. we are trying to push sex on to teens where pregnancy is at such a high rate, but what ever…
