VIDEO: Terrence Howard speaks about upcoming album
Thursday, June 5, 2008
Multi-talented Academy Award-nominated actor Terrence Howard is getting ready to release his debut album “Shine Through It” via Columbia Records on September 2nd. Check out the video above to peep Terrence talking about his inspirations for the album, as well as song snippets.
I was surprised he was killing that guitar like that. I guess he was actually playing it in that movie “The Best Man”, I always thought he wasn’t. LOL! Anyway, do your thing Terrence.

Yes he is truely a musician. He alway carry his guitar everywhere he goes. I am very surprise he don’t have it on the red carpet with him. Cause he’s known for always having his instrument.

Ooooooooh Terrance. Please shut your mouth and keep playing that guitar. THAT sounded beautiful but your voice wants to make me rip out my ear drums and light them on fire. Make this album an instrumental and I’ll be sure to pick it up.

I’m always worried when a singer turns actor/actress and an actor/actress turns singer but Terrance is so talent not to mention fine Ima have to check the music out.

Well I guess I can breathe easy — when I heard he was doing an album, I thought he was about to bust out & start rapping “Hustle & Flow” style.
IDK how I feel about his voice yet, but the music is nice.

Ok now I realize why people think he is gay, I see it in the way he acts/talks.
He is good looking in a weird way and his voice reminds me of Seal.

No truer words have ever been spoken. I like the music but his vocals……
I wish he would just shut his mouth altogether. I used to really like him before I knew so much about him. Whenever he talks I wince. I never know what nonsense is going to come out of his mouth.

He needs to do the Carlos Santana thing, and just play and have people guest on his album, really doubt the voice will grow on me. Plus his antics about black women is pure BS.

Ok.. DEFINITELY needs to be instrumentals.
His voice is actually pretty decent; recalls the 70s and simplicity, but the instrumentation overshadows EVERYTHING in all it’s pure GOODNESS.
Lush stuff. I like it.

his music is beautiful,
something i can sit back and relax to.
it has meaning to it,
a lot of people today in the industry dont have that.
he puts his inspiration into his music
and the meaning captures you.
its something different.
I love it when people are different.
Him, Keri Hilson, Solange, Teyana Taylor, Keke Palmer.

If this negro can sing than so can I. If he’s going to borrow T Pains voice box to cover up that croaking he’s doing then fine, sing. If not, he shouldnt even clear his throat! But play that guitar anytime you want.

Love the instrumentals. The voice however; not sure. I tried to see if it would grow on me as he sang and it just seemed to get worse. Maybe you should have some instrumentals and then guest vocalist with different styles, e.g. Anthony Hamilton, Robin Thicke, Raheem Devaughn, Jennifer Hudson or Jill Scott, Justin T., Nancy Wilson (check out her vocals on Next Exit with Grover Washington) etc.

His music is very calm and relaxing. His guitar skills are great. However, His voice needs work. It’s not as strong as I’d thought it would be. But I’d still listen to his album regardless.

Hi … I’m new here as far as posting I read all the time tho … I really just wanted to say to Terrabce to PLEASE STFU! The singing makes me want to surgically remove reonating sound of his vabrato from my mind and wither away in a heap … I mean maybe only slightly less dramatic than that… you suck at singing … but i love the way you play … keep that mic away from ya mouth son!

Ok. Obviously someone at Columbia Records thought this CD was good enough to warrant a record deal. I would like to meet that person and ask them a series of questions.
However, just from listening to the samples…the music isn’t bad, but it’s not good. And I’m just going by the samples maybe the rest of the CD is better.
And Terrence definitely needs to undergo some voice training before he releases a second CD. I don’t think it’s a good thing if the weakness of your voice distracts the person listening to the music and keeps them from fully enjoying your work. Maybe it was nervousness. He almost sounds like he doesn’t have confidence in his voice.
But maybe this was the effect he was going for with his vocals. There are lots of musicians that people hate their voices but they have successful music careers: Mary J, John Legend, Alanis Morrisette, Tracy Chapman, etc.

It kinda reminds me of a bad Hootie from Hootie and the blowfish. I don’t know what to say, maybe the alternative scene will eat this up it was all a bit bland and his runs and tone remained the same throughout, snippet’s are suppose to show you the best f what to expect.

Wow I’m really impressed! He has a real folk/soft rock kinda voice and music, at least from these two songs.
I respect that he actually loves music and wants to express himself in his own way, instead of being produced by Timbaland, T-Pain, The Dream, Polow Da Don, Brian Michael Cox, and etc.

First: da hell was he talking about? I mean I kinda got it, but then he started talking about models and magazines and clouds
Second: NO MA’AM with that singing! Mm mm, not at all .He CAN PLAY though.
Third: when the hell did he start talking like that? Dat nigga is from OHIO…I think I probably see where those who say he is self hating are coming from. Seems like it. I remember hearing him on TV talk about he doesn’t have any hang ups with the white people using the N word.

all of the arts are taking a hit.
