Years ago, during Timbaland’s short-lived reign with his first label, Beat Club Records, he signed a girl by the name of Kiley Dean, who actually was a former back-up singer for Britney Spears. Although she failed to release her first album, Simple Girl, which was in large part produced by Timbaland, she continued to pursue music and record songs. “Escape” was recorded years ago, but recently a version of the song Brandy recorded has leaked. The leaking of all this old Brandy stuff, I think, has a lot to do with the fact that she’s working on a follow-up to 2004′s underrated Afrodisiac.

Kiley does really connect with the song… I prefer her version, but Brandy has more colorful adlibs. Great stuff… Brian, you should do a post on some of Kiley’s new music!
Wow! Who is this Kiley chick? This is the first time I’m hearing her and her sound is banging! That girl has a nice voice, forreal. I’m going to have to go with her on this one. Sorry Brandy. Brian, post more Kiley! I want to hear more stuff from her.

i give it to Brandy on this one.. because you can tell that it was recorded by her first. Kiely does a WONDERFUL job on the song.. but its clear *at least to me* that Kiely rerecorded it after brandy as it was probably a reference track for kiely. So there are alot of “brandy-ism’s” in Kiely’s Version..
However Kiely did her thing.. Kiely got Pipes.. i actually have her “Simple Girl” album.. and her second CD “Changes” both were GREAT.. she just didnt get the pub she needed..

The song just SOUNDS like Brandy, so her voice flows over it better.
& I’m pretty sure I can hear Brandy’s vocals in the background of Kiley’s.
However, Kiley’s voice is decent and it was a good effort.
The song has BRANDY written all over it, although Kiley Dean version is v.good!

There is no comparison. I don’t like the song for either of them though. But Brandy’s was a demo, that wasn’t finished. Kiley’s is a HQ finished track. It’s not fair to Brandy to compare the two. But I clearly say Bran sings better.

I like both versions, but I prefer Brandy’s. It just sounds like a “Brandy track.” She had a more artistic approach to the song. Her adlibs and tone color add to the song. Kiley’s version is cool tho.

Kiley has a better voice than Brandy…I heard her sing “Crazy on You” and I couldn’t believe how good she sounded. Brandy should do something else…what about getting into the movie biz? Her last album wasn’t “underrated” it was underwhelming, unfinished, irrelevant, garbage!!

This is truly a BRANDY song. I like Kiley’s voice very much on it but there is no messing with a song once Brandy has done her thing on it.
#36: It is apparent that you either have not heard the Afrodisiac album or you just don’t know good music. That album really was very underrated and it was one of the best female R&B albums to come out in recent years. The songs on that album are CLASSIC!

It sounds like Brandy because she WROTE it. She sang it first and her vocals are still on the track. Brandy was working with Timb at that time and she arranged songs for kiley and sang vocals. If u watch the video for Kiley’s “Make me a song” it actually shows brandy coming to the studio to lay background vocs. Kiley is cool, but she’s bland.
I agree with no:5, i think Brandy needs to evolve and change her style, i’m a fan but am starting to think of late that all of her stuff is starting to sound the same also i think she was at her best when she was under Rodney Jerkings and Kayne as they seemed to push her vocals. I also cant wait for the new album
I like Brandy’s version better but Kiley has a good voice as well.
The other chick has the better/stronger voice but this song is so Brandy. The vocals the melody, I think it fits Brandy better. I did like the Afrodisiac album. I like the unreleased track Nodding Off from the Afrodisiac sessions. I listen to it all the time.
I’ll have to go with brandy on this one..even though Kiley did a great job on it but the lyrical content is most relevant to brandy….just my opinion,dont get it twisted now!

Some of you need to get your facts straight. Kiley Dean recorded this version first and Brandy DID NOT write this song. And Brandy is nowhere on Kiley’s version, not in the background, adlibs, nothing. And overall, Kiley’s version is much better than Brandy’s take with her computerized vocals. It seems that some of you just came in this thread biased because you’re already a Brandy fan.
