CL EXCLUSIVE: CHATTING IT UP WITH TASHA SMITH
Saturday, July 5, 2008
Sorry for the lack of updates, but we are down in New Orleans for the Essence Music Festival. We’ll be back on track in a couple of days. lol!
Anyway, I finally got to meet the talented Ms. Tasha Smith on Friday during Day One of the festival. She spoke during the ‘Leading Ladies Talk About The Representation of Black Women In The Media’ panel and signed autographs for her fans. She even took time to chat it up with me & J. Dakar and mentioned that she is a big fan of the site. Let’s just say I’m an even bigger fan now that I met her in person. She’s genuine and definitely deserves her props. Thanx Tasha & Joseph!
In Related News, Tasha has 4 upcoming films in the works and she is also working hard running her successful acting workshop. Keep doing it big Tasha!
Look out for more exclusive posts in the upcoming days..

I THINK CONCRETELOOP NEED TO STOP THIS STUPID AND HARD COMMENT ABOUT OURS SISTAS ( fantasia, estelle, golden brooke..)
im french so sorry if i makes mistake, but im feeling like this website let black people goes a lil bit too far on their comment, some people shouldn’t come and shouldnt be allowed to post commment like that
u american people are just obsessed with physical apperance, and beauty, u american people can’t help but put stupid comment like “damnn she’s dark”damnnn she’s too light”what the point on this comment??
THIS WEBSITE should allowed us to express ourselves but some sistas have no respect and education, and im sorry this lack of knowledge appears when i read some of the comment they made
u make a big things for nothing and diss somebody just because of her hair,or a skin colors
black folks make me feel ashamed sometimes and if nobody on this website stop this…I WOULD TRULY THINKS that concreteloop agree with it
its ok to think somebody is not attractive, or is a hot mess ,by the way she dresss but always have the same stupid comment about estelle when most of u people canT deny that she’s a very good performer im sorry but that is unfair
CONCRETELOOP THIS IS FOR U

@14 . I also agree. But how could we approve of something, when it happens to the whole CL Crew when we post our pics on the site. All I can do is moderate the comments or make it so all the comments have to go through us until we approve them. But that’s hard since the amount of posts we put up. Not to mention, I’ve been traveling all week and haven’t been able to moderate like I would like. I feel you though and when we are done with the new layout etc, you’ll see MAJOR changes.
I hate to get off topic, but I wanted to address that. The comment area does get out of hand sometimes and those who don’t follow the rules are banned as soon as I find out about it.
On a lighter note, thanx for the love y’all and yep @ number 4 that was me and my camera. lol

@ 14, I feel you on what you said, sooo many are damn physical focused!
but it simply shows how twisted some ppl are in america including blacks (I’m black maself make no mistake) and the worst thing is i’m sure the ppl who are dogin’ others are proberly not good looking themeselves so they hate to feel better abt themeselves..

I don’t make those sorts of comments, EVER because I don’t hate myself but it would be a huge mistake to censor the website to the point of… well, I can’t think of a comparison but I do know that it would be merely a fan site or just another of those stops where users can buy photos on the net IF you take away the freedom to comment as we’d like. I know you’ve basically built your brand to an online zine (congrats!) but I see other successful sites and I think a HUGE part of it is candor…if people aren’t allowed to speak candidly, to do more than simply say “I like this outfit” or “I don’t like this song” you’re going to create a situation that’s about like a fan site….

yea but i think some of you guys are really hard! i aint gonna lie of course i laugh when i read some comment and of course u have the right to speak and to say about somebody that she relevant of she hasnt got talent …
U KNOW my post was just dedicated to some people who say about somebody :she’s ugly as hell, she’s too dark, she’s looks lighter… U KNOW those kinds of comment
Its not about censor this website but just make sure that no one feeling hurts by reading those comment
i’m not shoking, but just disapointed when i read some of the comment!! concreteloop should be a place when we are able to speak about wat on our minds, but can we just stop with this wholeee skin colour!!i mean each and everytime there ’s an article about rihanna, estelle, fantasia…ITS THE SAME THINGS over and over again
why is there so many disrespect…LETS BE PROUD OF WHAT WE ARE,and what we see in the mirror
I just thought that we need to support our skin tone ( wherever they come from martinque, trinidad, jamaica, africa) or even mixed first,by stopping with the skin comment and then…SPEAK ABOUT WHATEVER WE WANT,and comment how we wanna the rest of the post
u know

This is an entertainment site. Although I agree that some comments are a bit harsh, we all have a right to express our opinions. I personally get a lot of laughs from reading some of the commentary. This site has rules, and as long as the comments are within the guidelines that are given, I don’t think people should be censored. This is still America, and in America free speech is something we have grown accustomed to. There are people of all ages that frequent this site so there are going to be some comments that border on the ridiculous and will obviouly lack maturity. Let’s not lose sight of the big picture. Celebrities are in the limelight and much of the criticism from those who post on this site is “constructive.”

I THINK WITHOUT SOME OF THESE CRAZY COMMENTS…CL WOULD BE SO BORING. WHO WANTS TO HEAR THE SAME OLE..YOU LOOK GOOD COMMENTS EVERYDAY. ESPECIALLY, WHEN SOMETIMES, PEOPLE DON’T LOOK GOOD.EVERYONE HAS AN OPINION SO IF WE ELIMINATE NEGATIVE COMMENTS ALL THE TIME…THEN LIFE WOULD BE SLOW AND DULL. I AGREE WITH PIXIE 100 PERCENT. WE NEED ALOT OF DIFFERENT COMMENTS…TO MAKE THIS WEBSITE FUN. I BEEN ON ALMOST TWO YEARS NOW AND I LIKE THE FACT THAT YOU HAVE THESE CRAZY PEOPLE COMMENTING BECAUSE IT WORTH A GOOD OLE LAUGH. HELL, IF PEOPLE WANT TO BE SERIOUS ALL THE TIME…THEN MAYBE THESE TYPES OF BLOGS AINT RIGHT FOR YOU.

As far a the negative commenting goes - you just have to bear in mind that there are some people who are just MEAN. They have no intent and no purpose but to try and hurt other people because in many cases they are hurting themselves or someone has hurt them.
The best thing is to ignore and accept that they may be dealing with some issues -
The worst thing to do is to allow their negativity to dominate the comments and divert from the post or real issue at hand - that’s what happen all too often.

Angel, what happened to that little music thingy you used to have in the upperleft hand corner of your page in like 05-06 I think (Yes, I’m a veteran fan of the site)- like a radio that had some of your favorite songs that we could click on and just play?

I think the comments are what makes CL. But the ignorance, we can do without. I hate the “hate attacters” on CL. If I make a comment, which by the way is never out of hand, why is it, someone feels they can attack me? Not a nice approach either. All this calling each other poor, ugly and uneducated is out of control. It seems like that’s all some on CL have to offer now days. Everyone is an expert and fashionista. If I don’t like a comment, I just skip over it. If a statement was made, and I want to know why, I just ask the poster.. But to jump on someone for saying they don’t like Rihanna’s outfit, is out of control. It’s never a simple disagreement either… Also, there are alot of underage kids on CL. So that is also part of the problem. CL is a big melting pot for blacks of different cultures, so your gonna have alot of disagreements. Black Americans are different from blacks over seas. But ignorance is ignorance, no matter what side of the globe your on.

I don’t think Angel’s outfit goes with those gladiator boots AT ALL!! The shirt, and shorts, and the belt? HORRENDOUS!But it’s Angel so of course ya’ll going to be on here lying…. Much respect to you as a black, strong, intelligent, independent business women and you be rocking some nice tees, but this outfit doesn’t work at all. I’m the type of person that believes everyone is entitled to his or her opinion and can speak and comment as they please. Freedom of speech people! The reason why I love this site is because you can get a variety of view points on a subject and further expand your knowledge and understanding about it, without being stuck in your individual frame of thinking. Always being politically correct is not being real. I love who I am and don’t ever feel like I have to do or say what everybody else is. That’s what makes us unique: Our differences

Angel : no hate here, but you know those gladiators and this belt never belonged together! I guess i’ts Iman Bowie’s turn to smile! Having said that, your skin looks flawless!
Comments on skin color : not cool… but some black french/european people do the same, some african people do the same, some asian people do the same. You can’t say that it’s ok, but it is a very common thing.

I must agree with #26 100%>>>CL is one of the most classiest blogs around. I’ve read several and trust me, a lot out there is crap. They are not as well-rounded, intelligent, and entertaining as CL. I think the CL team does it all the way. I also like the fact that CL gets the facts before posting rumors. That’s why I believe some of the rumors you hear don’t make it to CL right away. It appears they want to check their facts first. Keep doing whatcha doing, ya’ll!

@28>>>you are right. As long as we are following the CL rules for posting, I think people should be free to express their opinion. Yeah, there are some very harsh, and even cruel comments made; I hate the skin tone comments as well (unfortunately we are still color struck), but it would loose some of it’s flavor if people were monitored to the point where every negative comment (unless it didn’t follow CL posting rules) were omitted. I absolutely understand where West Indian Gyal is coming from, but that’s the fun of blogging.

Obviously, #14 most of what you said is true. However, it is not just African-Americans that are hung up on skin color or other physical traits. I’ve traveled the world and in Europe and the Carribean it is the same thing. In fact, a couple of years ago Jamaica was the number one retailer for skin lightning products. When visiting Spain or Scotland, I did not see one black couple. Every black person that lived in the country dated someone white. I could say a lot about why we would choose to date ppl that are less like us, but I won’t. Not to mention, Europe as a continent, particularly, western Europe, is obsessed with fashion and outter appearance. It was in France after all where Oprah was turned away from Hermes b.c they thought she was African. So, just as our comments should be unbiased, so should your critique.
63.

Saturday, July 5, 2008 /
@61 please get your facts straight , its idiots like you that perpetuate false rumors and BULLSHIT. Oprah did not get turned away because she was AFRICAN so stop making shit up dumbass, the store was closed!!!!!!!!!!!!!! soooo lets find out the truth before we spread stupid lies.
64.
Lisa
Saturday, July 5, 2008 /
@63 Unlike you I do my research, here is a link from Oprah’s own mouth about the story being closed to her and not the other shoppers inside….
http://www.cbsnews.com/st...tainment/main871083.shtml
Next time, if you want to make a point you get it right. And if you want to be taken seriously cut the rudeness out. I believe that was the original point of # 14’s point.
65.
Lisa
Saturday, July 5, 2008 /
In addition #63, regardless of what the details of Oprah’s story is the point to my post was that racism is displayed across nationalities and within races. I welcome a fierce response to that idea, instead of the Hermes story. By the way, do you own stock in the company? Do you defend the black on black racism with the same boldness?

NO OFFENSE TO ALL MY BLACK AMERICAN PEOPLES:when i said : u american can help but…
I WAS ONLY TELLING THAT because its a american website
but of course in france some people comment about skin too
And to repply about oprah, i think the reason why the didnt let her in , its because they thought she’s was a poor woman ( white people in france dont know who’s oprah is lol, but i have to admit that some black folks didnt too cuz we dont have her show here)and in france u cant enter to the chanel store,or dolce gabanna unless u are here to buy something! so i think they didnt know who she was and refuse to let her in
IM NOT SURE ABOUT THAT, who know the real story?

“She (Tasha Smith) spoke during the ‘Leading Ladies Talk About The Representation of Black Women In The Media”
Okay, this is what I have a problem with. How is she gonna speak about the representation of black women in the media when she’s done nothing but exploit black stereotype about women? Is it because she’s a working actress? And by actress I do use the term loosely. She has never portrayed a role that was somewhat positive so what exactly could she speak on without being hypocritical and judgemental? The only films of hers that come to mind is “Why Did I Get Married,” which was when she portrayed a stereotypical black woman (a stereotype that WE as black people should be moving away from) and her other film, “ATL” where she had a small role as the twins mother. And even in that film she still portrayed a stereotypical black woman! When are black people gonna stop praising bullshyt? When are we gonna give praise to black women that have actually made positive contributions? Whoever hosted this “Leading Ladies…etc” should be ashamed of themselves for having HER of all people speak…but whatever…
