Monday, July 7, 2008

venus beats her lil sis for the wimbledon title

Venus Williams of the US holds her trophy after winning the women’s singles final against her sister Serena Williams, on the Centre Court at Wimbledon, Saturday. Venus, the defending champion recovered from a whirlwind start to land her seventh Grand Slam title and 5th Wimbledon singles title. The sisters also won the women’s doubles finals later on that same day!

Serena & Venus on the event:

“My first job is a big sister and I take that very seriously,” Venus said. “It is hard for all of my family, although I like to think they want me to win.”

Serena, who had won five of her previous six Grand Slam finals against her sister, admitted things had not gone as she expected.

“She was a little better today, but it didn’t work out as planned,” she said. “But I’m so happy that at least one of us could win. We were glad to be in the final.” [read more]

Congrats to the Williams Sisters. That’s history right there. Keep reading to view more photos.

I couldn’t imagine what was going through their minds playing against each other. I guess they would have to pretend they are playing against a complete stranger. I’m proud of both of the sisters nontheless. Congrats!!

I loved watching them play. You could see the frustration all over Serena’s face. I think she got too comfortable when she won the first set. When they were holding up their trophies for their singles match Serena looked like she wanted to throw her’s on the ground and walk away. lol. But it’s great that they were able to keep the trophy in the Family. They are both successful in the end.

I don’t know how they manage to play against each other. If I was playing against my sister I might be tempted to bust a joke half way through or knock a ball at her head or something Lol. But serious congratulations to them both!

But hopefully Serena will win it next year though… :)

Well I love both sisters. but i really love me some venus. I really think that she is the better athlete among the sisters. when she was down in the first set, she did not get upset but she just stayed calm and just played consitant tennis. but serena on the other hand she get upset to easily. and that is just not how it works. i was really due time for venus to win against serena. And another thing is serena did not look happy for venus at all. but all those years when serna won against venus in finals, venus was happy for her. a matter of fact she would be taking pic’s venus is such a wonderful person and a great tennis player. and what about that 129mph serve.

DAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAMN IM SO PROUD OF HOW MUCH DESE GURLS DONE ACCOMPLISHED. THEY CHANGED THA FACE A WOMENS TENNIS SINCE THE START OF DIS CENTURY. DEY TOOK THE POWER GAME 2 A NEW LEVEL AND DATS WAT MADE ALL THE OTHER WOMEN TENNIS PLAYERS FRM EUROPE AND BEYOND STEP UP AND BECOME SO COMPETITIVE. AND THEY GOT SO MUCH LOVE FOR EACH OTHER. I WAS ROOTIN FOR BOTH VENUS AND SERENA. SO BEAUTIFUL TO SEE THE SISTERS PLAYING EACH OTHER AGAIN. I HOPE DEY KEEP IT UP 4 THE US OPEN!!

WE LOVE YOU LADIES.

28.

let's not lie

Monday, July 7, 2008 /

@cameron but if venus won wimbledon 5 times didn’t she go against and beat her sister before so what do you mean by “due time”?

i also prefer venus as an athlete. congrats to both though. and for the ppl who say playing against your sister must be hard, you have to understand that it really isn’t lol i mean they’re professionals and they’re playing a match. for the time being, they are competitors not sisters and although they might say it was hard (b/c ppl expect them to say that) they knew they needed to handle their business regardless so it couldn’t have been that hard. or maybe i have no heart idk lol

and let’s not discuss the nadal vs. federer match b/c i’m still mad about the outcome. whatever federer will come back to claim his trophy. nadal better watch out

Venus and Serena once again proved those haters wrong whopping ass on the tennis court. I can’t think of any other tennis player that have to deal as much criticism as they do and they just use their racket to shut them up.

Saw them play this year and they were doing their thing. they are such an inspiration and good role models.

30.

yea whatever

Monday, July 7, 2008 /

these ladies are bad!!! I love them!!! My idols!!! I always thought Serena could whoop Venus and EVERYTHING and ANYTHING..because she is bigger, more powerful, and more muscular..but Venus proved her wrong. Venus still got it going on!!! I’ve been watching Venus since I was a young teen and she still had beads in her hair…lol

CONGrats to both William Sisters for taking it all. They won nearly 2million in prize money and thats something to smile about.
It’s funny to watch them play against each other because you can tell Serena hates losing to Venus. Anyways, i was watching the game and Lil’ sister Serena was salty after her lose. She wasn’t laughing at any of Venus jokes.

Congrats to both Venus and Serena Williams. Taking everything home this year was a great way to shut up all the haters in the tennis community who said that they were finished, not committed to tennis, and could never come back to the top. This match that they played was the most competitive that they’ve ever been against each other. Venus really wanted history and to get number 5, and everyone knows that Serena hates to lose anything. I’m happy that Venus was able to get the monkey off her back and beat Serena in a grand slam final once again though. Both girls did a great job and showed that they are at their best.

To set the record straight for those who think Serena “let” Venus win. I watched the match from beginning to end, and you are too far off base to say or even suggest such a thing. Like Venus told one of the reporters earlier in the week, she is highly professional in every aspect of her career and to suggest such a thing about she or Serena is a blatant insult to not only them as players, but their entire family and what they stand for. Plain and simple, Venus played better than Serena on Saturday. If you looked at the match as I did, Serena was trying to give Venus all she could handle in the beginning, but Venus had a great defensive game to counter Serena’s attack. Someone on here also said Serena was letting easy balls go by. There were no easy balls. If you watched the match as I did, you could plainly see that it was very windy down on the court and that affected the movement of the ball, so they may have looked like makeable shots for Serena, but the wind played a huge factor. Look at how many times Venus had throw up her ball toss during her serves. Need I say more. As for who has mor power, though Serena is more muscular, Venus generates more power because of her height, so she has a little more power than Serena. Venus has the fastest serve in Wimbledon history among women with 127mph. She set a new record this year with a 129mph serve. She earned that win outright on Saturday. To say or think otherwise is utterly ridiculous and just plain stupid.

I saw the match Serena wasn’t getting to the balls fast enough. I think her ass was holding her back. I am blaming the ass for that one.

#45 you are so right Venus’ serve was on target and she was serving like I never seen her serve before. Of the two, Venus was definitely the better player and people dont realize that her height and reach are such an advantange for her. She wasnt afraid to play the net on Serena either. Most of all I love it when Venus and Serena whuup up on them white girlz!!!!

BLKPLAYA got it right. Not only that Venus is a smarter player. Serena
tries to over power but Venus knows how to finesse. Serena’s reaction
and frustrations on the court showed she was trying but Venus just out-
played her.

I got a little weepy during Venus’s gracious comments about the match and her sister.

As soon as Venus won, you could see her immediately tamper her jubilation, which was so very sweet. She seemed to not accept full congratulations or compliment during the interviews, she deflected the praise several times and complimented her sister for her performance.

And I don’t think there was anything wrong with Serena’s attitude, her big sister won, and she was moping, sad, and putting on the lil’ sister act. Im sure she will acknowledge her bad behavior later on.

Gotta love those girls!

Serena didn’t look like such a dominating player like she usually does, but Venus is a 5 time Wimbledon Champion. She doesn’t just lay down and die. She comes to win this tournament every year. She is undoubtedly the best grass player of this decade. This surface is more suitable to Venus’ game. She hits harder than Serena and has always been one of,if not,the best movers in the women’s game. For those who said they thought Serena “let” Venus win you all don’t know anything about the game. Those serves that Serena killls other players with won’t do as much damage to Venus because 1)Venus attacks the first serve from inside the baseline(no other player would dare do that)…..2)Venus has always been a better mover than her sister….3)Venus has one of the best serves on tour(especially the slice serve wide)….4)you know you are in trouble when Venus’ second serves stand up(usually her weaker shot)….5)Venus WANTED it more just like Johnny Mac said(he’d never seen that from Venus before BTW when playing her sister….6)Venus is the better athlete and usually the better athlete wins Wimbledon.

Also,I did congratulate Nadal prematurely, but watching that match was unbelievable.

For the record, the sisters head-to-head is now even at 8-8. Serena has been lucky in that most of their meetings were in Grand Slam Finals. Their GS Finals is now 8 for Serena and 7 for Venus. As a tennis fan and a black woman I am so proud.
